This tileset rocks, it has the requirements needed (poles, destruct blocks, back+fore eyecandy etc.) and it looks so cool. The backround looks grey and dull, but it fits in with the tileset. There are some nice and interesting animations, and awesome looking spikes. There are a few bad points, but i cant really take much off because of that. Read WR’s review for more.
Wowness!! I never thought I’d live to see Piccolo’s update of his tileset! (Alright, maybe I over exaggerated it a bit…) Desperate Cry (remake) is a undescribable good tileset. (It’s only undescribable cause I’ve used up all the goody goody words in my vocabulary ;-P) Ok, so you’ve all read my old review (you have?! fantastic!) and noticed that I put in some criticism. Most of the criticised parts of the tileset is gone in the update although the grass/mud is still there.
The tiles are beautifully (haha! I came up with a word!) textured but some tiles, e.g those red cliff things, could do with some better colouring.
The animations and eyecandy also hold a high standard. There are loads of stuff in this tileset like spikes, vines, mud, or is it grass? (Hard to tell cause I’m writing this review without my glasses on) And there are also those eyes that look up and down at you. Very cool, but also very disgusting.
Also, which is new, there are diagonal, or sloping, tiles in Desperate Cry. Nothing special, you say? Well, it is special because the old version of Desperate Cry didn’t have any sloping tiles at all (I took away 1.5 points for that…hehe…).
Also, the H and V poles are un-masked. Hooray! And there are new, more useful spikes! Hooray! And lastly, there is a hidden SEPULTURA 00WNS YOU!!! message. Hooray for Sepultura fans!
Unfortunately, there are also bad points.
THE GRASS IS SOOOOOOOO DISGUSTING!! The grass/mud looks like someone’s vomited over them. They’re drawn with one of those artificial light green colours and it looks really ugly. If you want to make dead grass, look at some real-life pictures.
Even though the H and V poles are un-masked, there are new spikes and diagonal tiles, the grass is still there. I really hate it. But, it’s only an opinion so I guess I won’t exactly be able to reduce points just because of that.
At last there are diagonal tiles. W0000pee! (D
Download NOW.
An well deserved 8.5 eats Piccolo
Cheers,

Oke I promise you, you’ll get a level out of this Tileset from me :)
Ouch, dont think Jazz’s review is quite fair… :/
Oh well, because this is a 2nd version, I wont give it a rating (comment only), but this is still a great tileset, and with the bugs fixed and extra tiles (YaY for diagonals!) you can’t go wrong in making levels with it.
Grrr, stupid thing, submitted the review before I was done, I’ll carry on now :P
Anyways, I wouldn’t quite associate this tileset with the Zerg from StarCraft (it’s one word blazey, get your blizzard terms right ;), but it is still pretty eerie, and has a very original theme. It rocks, get it :D
P.S. I’d like it more if you made other tilesets, fix the mistakes from the one set in the next set, thats what I do ;)[This review has been edited by Disguise]
EDIT: Jazz’s review is no more. :P
P.S. I like the grass, it rocks! dont think of changing it ;)[This review has been edited by Disguise]
This makes for a great Haloween tileset. An especially nice upload for this time of the year. While playing, I almost expected pumpkins for enemies. ;-P
@Blazey: someone has played to much StarCraft, no? ;P
I LOVE this tileset, it’s one of my favourites.
This is just awesome.
Creepy stuff like moving eyes and those red thingies, blades and much more… mrrow… purrs
Yay to Sepultura inspiration :)
Maybe I underrated this now. xD[This review has been edited by Skulg]
I always liked the first version, Desperate Cry is a nice noogy looking tileset.
It has Spikes, vines, and whuteva you need more.
It minds me of Zerg from star craft, all choose big moving beast looking things, eyes poping up, I love it.
The tilesets quality reaches almost agama, but it dosent give the completely Jazz style like Agama’s tileset does, and it arent neat detailed as Agama’s.
If you would like to make a Zerg style level, you should download this NOW.
Download recommed. :P
Good like; nice and big…
Piccolo, aka means Also Known As, so its actually one person, I am Piccolo and SoulFirE…
Well, thnx for the reviews, I guess I really am st00pid for forgetting the diagonal tiles. That will be included in my next tileset aswell as a in 8-bit working textured background and unmasked poles. About the grass, I aint gonna look to pics of dead grass when I’m creating my own fantasy world, have you ever seen red creatures standing on one place forever, dont think so, that is also my fantasy, nothing is really realistic…
Thanks for the reviews and critics, very usefull, you probably will see an updated version someday..[This review has been edited by Piccolo aka SoulFire]
So my double and his friend are making good work.
The tileset’s much better than mine, but I’m making progress!
Now to the rating:
It’s a nice depressive tileset(gonna make a level(I think))!
A little hard to use.
So,that’s all…
So,what the heck does aka mean?
Wowness!! I never thought I’d live to see Piccolo’s tileset! (Alright, maybe I over exaggerated it a bit…) Desperate Cry is a undescribable good tileset. (It’s only undescribable cause I’ve used up all the goody goody words in my vocabulary ;-P) The tiles are beautifully (haha! I came up with a word!) textured but some tiles, e.g those red cliff things, could do with some better colouring.

Ok, I’ve mention all the good things about Desperate Cry. Time for some criticism…MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
First of all:
THE GRASS IS SOOOOOOOO DISGUSTING!! The grass/mud looks like someone’s vomited over them. They’re drawn with one of those artificial light green colours and it looks really ugly. If you want to make dead grass, look at some real-life pictures.
Second of all:
As Disguise said, there are no diagonal tiles. I wonder if Piccolo forgot them or if he’s very stupid? The diagonal tiles are too important to be missed out. That forces me to take away about 1.5 points from my original rating.
Third of all:
There are two things badly masked in Desperate Cry. The spikes and the poles (both the H poles and the V poles).
The masked spikes aren’t high enough so when you hit them, you can get hurt but it looks unrealistic cause you only get hurt when you hit the ground, not the spikes. This little problem could be
fixed by making two kinds of spikes.
The poles are masked. They shouldn’t be. You don’t to mask poles, Piccolo. They work absolutely fine in un-masked tiles. Because they’re masked, you can (if yer very careful) stand on the poles without getting er…swinging on it.
Fix these problems, Piccolo and Desperate Cry will be a first-class tileset. But for now, it’s just a very, very good first try.
I’ll give Desperate Cry an 7 and a download recommendation.
EDIT: HAHA! I got the longest review! (again)[This review has been edited by White Rabbit]
I suppose I should review this, I mean you reviewed mine, so I’ll pass on the favour ;)
Heh, anyways, the quality of the drawn tiles are amazing, the textures used are top notch and the animations are seamless. It contains loads of extra eye candy tiles for layer 4 and extra layers, along with poles and vines that can be used.
Apart from that, the masking is perfect, I can’t see any jaggies to get stuck in, everything is smoothed out (including on that animation, I was impressed with that). Okay, that’s the good points, but there are some flaws I noticed.
Firstly, there are no diagonal tiles, a huge flaw in my opinion, diagonals are just as important as the flat tiles themselves, it does a lot to make a level cooler ;)
Apart from that, the textured background (made in teralogic texture maker, same thing I use, nice) doesn’t work in 8-bit mode. If you had those fixed this would’ve been an extremely high quality tileset, along with the best of the best, good job and carry on with sets! ;)
This tileset is really good for your first. However, the tile placement is kind of bad. I know you say you couldn’t help this, but I’m sure you could have.
The basic blocks are black, with a yellow/green gradient sort of thing as the floor. You can put vines and stuff on it, along with eyecandy swords, signs, and… big red monster thingies?
There is also some cool layer 6/7 background, big dangerous looking spikes, a nice textured background, all that stuff.
YEAH!
Its cOOl!
It has everything a tileset needs (you know like blocks and stuff..) and is beautiful too!
Owh yea, its also a very original tileset and ofcourse its your FIRST one so.. 8.7![This review has been edited by BurningBulL]
WHOA! This ROCKS (especially for MY taste :D)!
clings to SoulFirE
I LOVE those blades and the background and… and… and the moving eye-things and… EVERYTHING!
This is VERY impressing for your first tileset!
Rock on!
…
And to all those who didn’t yet: DOWNLOAD THIS NOWgoes and buys a Sepultura CD
cool you first tileset good layers download this FAST a 8.7
WwoowW! Man, you really overdone yourself! I really didnt expected such a great Tileset. The tileset is like some mix of Agama, Disguise and Blade styles…just so **** Great!Im sure I’ll make a level with this Tileset. Everyone download this baby! It RuLeZ!
The stuff in the Tileset are good drawed, like the poles, vines, -> Animations and Spikes etc. So I mean together its a Tileset with much possibilities. Also the drawing style is very nice, like the ground. And of course dont forget about the Eyecandy, its very well. The layer 7+8 are very nice designed, aaaand the Textured Background, a tileset without one, sucks. But lucky us, this Tileset has one :) Lets put everything together: A nice Tileset which really deserves a Download Recommendation! D/L NOW!!!
Well Done! SoulFire.
Edit: Ow yeah did I mention the Read Me rulez. hehe ;)
