I don't see why I shouldn't use overused tilesets...

The background is pretty empty. The walls could also use some more EC and I noticed that your using the same holes in the walls over and over again but the tileset offers more.

is it just me, or is this level based upon insdark1...?
(you little thief, not only you steal my signature and tileset names "(-) 2.0" and now layers and eyecandy from my levels  )

(-) it looked like all the other gazillion diamb levels out there. Just with less ec.
And (-), not allowed to use a 2.0? Go sue Web 2.0, Firefox 2.0 and other 2.0's, crybaby.

Picture of the layout, but it misses some parts. I gotta do ec but it's boring.

I was just wondering why you were so angry at PJ7 for using a 2.0, when it wasn't even public I guess. And I don't see any resemblence between your siggie and PJ7, maybe except for a link to an upload, which more people do. The censor isn't anything like f u or something.

I agree.

Most of them are there just because it was too empty :P And they help stuff I guess. I'm not too fond of the layout, but ya.

I'm not sure what it is, and I guess it still misses eye-candy stuff, but I'd suggest for one to make things.. smoother. The grass looks a little as if it was a low-quality jpg, and I'd suggest making the gradient smoother between the two sides of the wall of ground in the upper right ( kind of hard to describe ). The way it is now, it looks like something was broken out of the ground or so.
The way it is now, the tileset looks to me like.. any other foresty tileset except with some grainy textures added in.
With the grainyness comes some sort of natural feeling and the atmosphere of old movies and such. It has charme, but it lacks something...

I know exactly what you mean, Faw, and I agree. The grass bugs me a bit for the same reason. As it is, it was mostly an exercise in colour conservation and drawing a tileset pixel by pixel (something I've never really done). The grass itself only uses three or four colours. Strangely, others have commented that they like it just fine.

I think there are actually some jpg artifacts in that picture. The actual tileset isn't much better, though.

Good job on the hint I provided Xobim, but no, the dragon has no significance in the actual plot. The very basic part of the plot is a deus ex machina between the brothers Jazz and Spaz.

I understand your point Flash, but the text string is actually important. It's one of those things that makes sense when you experience the level itself.

I especially approve of the first screenshot. It reminds me of Seiken Densetsu 3. <3 ..and the lighting and overall design are nifty.
The other two seem a little strange in terms of design, in the second, that wall of destructive blocks appears kinda useless... how about making the outer row speed blocks so you'd have to be careful not to run into the devil? =o

Woah, I remember screenshots of this dating back to page 1.

If I had to guess, the lights somehow help the player see the objectives clearly. As the main
issue with assault levels is that they tend to be complex by nature, having their objectives easy
to understand so that the levels can be easily played even for first timers has never been
so easy to accomplish.

To DS: Hehe, if you only knew.

Stijn
Mar 22, 2007, 01:44 PM
Actually the light was just a funny side effect of something and I am not sure whether going to use it in the level yet, mainly since it has a tendency to crash the level or look messed up under certain circumstances, but wanted to share it anyway :P If I decide to use it it would be for the purpose you just described indeed.

And well, I am indeed still working on it :) With huge breaks inbetween though.

Hmm, on the other hand, the art of the tileset seems rather blurry compared to the sprites... but reducing its size by half might make it *too* small. ..and it would be quite the effort to redo it now anyway. But might be something to consider for future attempts!

By the way does somebody know who has maden townhouse summer tileset?

Lark made the tileset conversion, I made the townhouse summer palette edit because I needed a summer version of the tileset.

Looks like a Megaman X conversion to me...

A very limited and bad conversion it is. I can hardly imagine someone making a decent level out of it.

I'm currently making ... 4 levels! :D 2 of them are like 99,9% finished. Then I also have one which still needs more eyecandy and then last but not least : my almost-finished level for Rep's contest! (all of them are CTF) Eh....just to let you know.

I've played in a level using the rayman set, and I would like to say that the set is awesome.

I did have a Megaman level once, made for 1.23, but after I accidentally opened it in the TSF version of JCS it wouldn't work on 1.23. Go figure!
I spent about 1-2 weeks on this level.
Here's a screenshot I took months ago before I screwed it up:

This level was part of a 4 level pack called Mega Jackrabbit I was making about 6 months ago.

Here are screenshots of my battle level for Purplejazz's contest. It is loosely based on a Tomb Raider level, 'Temple of Karnak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karnak)', and of course inspired by all the temple levels of Tomb Rabbit. If you're familiar with Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, you may notice the Great Hypostyle Halls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Hypostyle_Hall%2C_Karnak) and the Sacred Lake I put into the level. It is not based on the real life Karnak temple complex.

Temple of Karnak is finished, but needs betatesting before I either upload it, or send it to Purplejazz.

I'm hosting a public betatest right now. Join if you feel like it.

EDIT: In case you want to join, the server is now down.

I suppose it's a battle level?
I never really played battles, but... I think that during such a fast-paced game, the layout of the level should be clearer. It's hard to make out quickly where you can go, what you can stand on and stuff like that...

Some parts of the level plays a bit like a singleplayer level, but I hope people won't have any trouble, and it was intentional to that sort of feel to it, as both Tomb Raider and Tomb Rabbit were great single player adventures that I and many other people enjoyed. My betatesters didn't report any large navigational issues either.

I've also tried to be consistent in the masking of tiles, so if one type of tile is solid, then they all are, unlike sometimes in Tomb Rabbit (with the exception of the obelisk in the middle of the Sacred Lake). I wasn't as inventive in the tile usage as Kejero was, I'm afraid. :p
