For those of you who don't know what this is, it is an AN level made by me and Birdie. (Thx to DS for hosting)
Just a few comments on each of the pics:
1. The start room where you choose whether you are a solider or the leader. The crates are inside "Allen's Groceries" :P
2. Coins have been tripled by the use of MCEs.
3. BIRDIE CAN'T MOVE!
4. PJ has been out for a long drink.

This is the new level I am working on. It's built with Agama's Egypt-tileset, which -i have to say that here- is absolutely awesome ;)
The eyecandy isn't finally yet on these screens.
I thought about placing a hoverboard in the level, but i don't know if that's really a good idea.
All in all, I think the level is finished to 60%

This level is called Crystal Caves, BTW. I'm using the underused Crysilis tileset. I know it's missing the flashing arrows and some bits aren't masked correctly but it's the only Crysilis set available right now.
There will be 2 levels. One is the level you can see right now, and the other is going to be a Bonus level.
I know there isn't many items there right now. That's because I'm currently doing the Level layout.

Well, not much. I've only spent about a week on it. As it's gonna be bigger than the 256 x 64 default size, I've not even got that far yet. I'd be happy to use the other Crysilis conversion as the one I'm using is missing the arrows and most of the tiles aren't masked correctly.
That does however mean, my level will probably not be ready until June.

So I have played Dx's level and here is my opinion so far:
The level features quite some interesting challenges most of them including rolling rocks but also some hurt events and quite good enemy placement. Some of the rolling rocks are effected by wind and belts which might be weird at first since the level doesn't give you any hints when to expect wind and belts but you will get used too it and will provide some good challenge. Enemies can be quite annoying because the big boxes will block most of your shots which actually add to the challenge since the enemies are easy in jj2. The EC is original but some places can be really dull. Although it looks decent enough it's not anything special. Also the water looks buggy in my opinion. All of this is driven by a really simple story but it's just one SP level so it's not the most important thing.

That are the first tiles of my upcoming tileset. Its at a very early stage and I don't make good progress because it's completely drawn in MSPaint, which lasts some time.
The tileset is 'just' another forest tileset with ruins (Trees and ruins still to come, though :P), but I'm trying to give it a special look and make it easy to use. I also plan to draw at least two variants of each tile.

Well, good ol' "Forest-with-ruins" is my favourite tileset-theme, but I would also like to hear other ideas what to make with those first tiles =)
To be honestly it's not only my style. I looked at some gfx by other artists and tried to copy some tiles (without copy&paste, though) to learn how it's done, especially the look of leaves. But I continued more and more on my own.

I am currently making a levelpack that will be very short.
It is based on a mystery about the royal court being sucked up into five dimensions: Air, Water, Earth, Fire, and Darkness.
Our young rabbit was summoning the servant during this occasion, and missed to whole thing! Through the reminants of the gates left in the dining room, he must find each of his friends by exploring the elemental planes, all with different compelling gameplay types for different Jazzers.
From avoiding the drop to attacking the walls and dodging the flame,
Dinner Of Disaster
should be one exciting pack! What do you guys think? Like the storyline? I'm very sorry that there's no screenie. Oh well.

Heh, well, don't mind my criticism in any case. I was just kidding. I always like to see single player episodes.
9 levels is pretty ambitious. All I can really say is that when you are making something like this, you will always have to sacrifice some ideas in order to get it done. It's always great if everything can be perfect, but unfortunately it's never realistic. I always seem to make huge plans for level packs and wind up cutting half of it by the time it's done.
As for no idea for level layouts, the best solution is just to force yourself to work on it. In these situations, ideas simply will not come to you until you start building stuff. Even if it's just a bunch of simple things.

To sum up the storyline: No contact from a space station.
Stuff that's holding it back: No Idea for level layouts
I agree with Evilmikes idea. If you force yourself to build the level, you'll create a dozen of layouts, of which one eventually will lead to the needed layout for the level.
If you're building space bases you should ask yourself simple questions. Like "what does this space station need?", or "how should every part be connected?" and "Is this place meant for the masses or just technicians etc.?" and so on.
It leads to a global idea of what you want to create in JCS, AKA a layout...

These screenshots don't look bad, but as far I can see they look very similar to others levels with those tilesets, and according to the given images they appear quite generic. The Carrotus and Castle levels have tile bugs in the walls. Also, I suggest that you avoid using layer 4 tiles that are normally masked on layer 5, as it can become very confusing and frustrating at times. Finally, the Castle screenshot is the only screen that seems to show any form of preivew on the gameplay; the others look fairly empty.

I am currently working on a new version of Lost in Marble Gardens. The levels will contain new puzzles that were not in V4.0. This will be a harder version of the previous one. I don't know whether to call it V5.0 or something different.
Yes, I am also still working on Crystal Cave. About 70-75% done I think. I might remake it in the new Crysillis shortly after that's done.

There's tons of platformers that don't revolve around "go right". There's quite a few Jazz 2 levels, official and fan-made, that don't use this concept.
Well, as he made the tileset it might just be an unreleased version.
I'd still like a copy of the tileset with a beach. That particular tileset happens to be one of my favorite, and a beach addition would be really neat for my own levels.

Bad name, I know. ;P If someone has a better name suggestion, post it.
The level isn't even close to being 10% done, that's why there are no platforms on the right, and the lower part of the base platform isn't done. I have to admit that I like working with WSF :)
The level isn't going to be big. IIRC, the size is 100x75. But I'm sure it isn't claustrophobic either ;P
And yes, those translucent foreground texbg lines are waterfalls. Don't ask me why I've put them there. ;P I just thought it would be interesting.

Hi every1! I'm gonna make a new level pack, Need for Bowser 4. I hope some people remember one of the episodes (I just release them to far from each other and I wonder why? )
I cant tell when it will be finished coz I didn't think out everything yet! To be correct I run out of idea and the current lvls need repairs too.
The story is Mario is missing and Devan returned, and he want to build a portal to meet other worlds to get super technologies!
You will move in many new places like rain forest, casino world and so on. Watch this! It will contain a new feature in jazz the [I]CHOOSE ABLE PATH[/I,this means at some of the end of lvl you can choose where you wanna go further.Example: you reach the end of the cave you find 2 roads no1. take you to a beach lvl and no2. take you to a city lvl. I dont find any lvl that contain this feature so I think this will be new to the people.
I hope you get EXCITED!
Slowly I run out of ideas to make new kind of places with the"ultimate mario set" so I probably use other tilesets too. But dunno about any?
Cant help me by giving tips?

Will it work in 1.23?
Wolfiend
Aug 26, 2007, 09:38 AM
Of course it will be for 1.23 just like the other NFBs!
It will be less long then NFB 3 but it will have much more lvls then 3 thx to the path choosing feature(I will call this from now PCF). It will contain levels and bosses which only c an be meet at hard difficulty. With the PCF it will mostly likely have a FIREWALL LEVEL which blocks to skip lvl with jjnext! This means if you use the cheat you go to a lvl where you loose all lives, and you have to restart the whole thing! I always like to block cheating:cool: ! But episode wont be passworded so you can learn a few things from it at lvl creating(too bad its allows to look at the secrets:mad: )! You will be able to buy weapons just like in 3, but you can now choose what you wanna buy coz there will be multi buy able things.
OH MY I JUST CANT WAIT TO SEE THE PLAYERS REWIEW :p

I don't know about the level, but that tileset is too limiting. I see you're trying some stuff with it though. But I would use another tileset instead of that one. The picture shows that the level is very green, as everything I see there is green. The food, the RF ammo, the background, the ground tiles etc. I see stars in the background though. The name is not that bad in my opinion.

While I browsed through the first pages I saw many levels that were never uploaded. What about that Odyssey level by P4ul? Was that DeathF1? What about 'Not Quite Emerald'?

Eigus
Aug 30, 2007, 07:20 AM
Haha.
Anyway, "QE,A" is going to be the first level of my first pack.
Annnnd, for the second level, I want YOU to choose the tileset I will use:
Option a: Windstorm Fortress (;P)
Option b: Oddysey (;PP)
Option c: Noka's new IC-IF Tubelectric which is yum (cooba will probably choose this ;P)
Option d: Other (specify which tileset)
DarkSonic
Aug 30, 2007, 08:20 AM
Well, Odyssey and WSF don't have very original things to be made because many people used it. The Tube Electric tileset is pretty good and underused, and it could be possible to make something original. I don't know about other sets, it depends what kind of sets you like.
Eigus

Actually, those two parts of the level (see the screenies I posted above) are really close together.
Give it more of a feel and try to do more of a background as well.
Well I'm using a small tileset that really doesn't offer that much of a background/foreground aside from the cave tiles and the crystals.
And the eyecandy would look too confusing and might annoy the player if I added "a little more variety".

I'm all scrubbed down on this one.
Actually, those two parts of the level (see the screenies I posted above) are really close together.
Well I'm using a small tileset that really doesn't offer that much of a background/foreground aside from the cave tiles and the crystals.
And the eyecandy would look too confusing and might annoy the player if I added "a little more variety".
I've been bugging Violet for a conversion of this tileset for the longest time because the conversion we have now is simply terrible.
I recommend making transitions between the brown background to the black crystal background in certain places, covering over the transition with some foreground stuff.

... I assume that means you don't know?
I'm all scrubbed down on your slang. D=
I do declare I believe I've been referenced. I want my cookie now >O, take off all the chocolate bits and replace them with... cheese. 8D
You translated it into normal English. That wasn't the task. ;o

I kind of expected a reply like this. Your level isn't going to become better because you feel a shortage of tiles. ;) Besides I'm pretty convinced there ARE background tiles:

Try to take usage of multiple layers and mix the dark tiles with your current using the translation tiles just next to the sign. Also you should avoid making dead-ends and spread out your weaponry more.

Another level I'm making: It's Darn Cold!

The level design looks bland in It's Darn Cold, Jimbob, but I'll give that the benefit of the doubt. However the big problem with the screen is that the inner ledge things aren't randomized enough in type and structure.

It's still not complete yet tho. :p
I have gotten further in to making the level.
At first I was going to call it "It's (-) Cold!" (a pun referring to the tileset) but ahh, what the hell.
EDIT - Updated screen shot:

Listen to n00b; you're working with a natural tileset. Also, please try to be more careful with ammo placement, and the screens don't reflect you've gained knowledge from guides or reading other reviews on previous uploads.

The cave tiles look abit 'squared off', making them more curvy and organic would probably help.

Well I am kind of a newbie, but...
the inner ledge things
The "inner ledge things"?
I want to know what you are talking about.

I think he means that on the first screenshot some of the floor to floor and floor to wall tiles dont quite join up properly.

Try varying their location, type and flip more of the tiles. I call them "inner ledge things" because it is possible to stand on them opening up some cool design ideas I've toyed with.

This is the bottom of my level.
As you can see, I also added a boarder around it.
The bottom of the level is kinda cool, (imo), because you have to stomp one of the bridges to get into the water.
And yes, n00b, I still know about the inner ledge things. I just didn't add them to the bottom yet.

That will be changed as soon as possible. I was thinking of using red or orange as that fits the textured background as well. I still don't know what tilesets to use for the 2 last levels, one Battle and 1 CTF.

What do you think about Toxicus, DS?
DarkSonic
Sep 13, 2007, 08:00 AM
I have already used Lavapolis once and that is almost the same as Toxicus.. it was fun to use it, but I won't use it again. I'll just finish level 4 and then I'll see if I can find a tileset to use.

Well, you can choose if you want to be in the water or not. I'm not responsible for the annoyance of other players :P
By the way, the bridges are one-wayed (except for in the middle, that is Stomp Scenery)
so that if you start in the water and no-one butt-stomped the bridges you can still get out :P ;)

I suddenly got an urge to comment on eye candy... I have to be catching on a serious disease of kinds :O :lori:
Eigus: I like the looks of your screen. The front waterfall adds a nice 3Dish feeling to it or something.
Jimbob: Nice tileset, bad job.
DarkSonic:
Obviously, there's nothing wrong with your eyecandy. But I do think the middle two levels in your post looks best. But that could just be because I like the feel of the tileset better or so. Contact me whenever you're done with the pack, and I'll review at least the CTF levels ^_^

Thanks Gry. ;D
I'll soon post screens of another level: Gagarin Satellite CTF. It's a huge level so it'll take a while to complete it, but I'm sure it'll be nice. No screens now, because all I did now is a simple platform. For now the size is 256x64, but it might increase (!). Slightly (!!).

NEWS
I'm near at 50% of the levels! God the city level was super hard to make.
It will speed up (maybe:-) )the making. By the way I got help in it a bit like ideas, text correcting... from Red Jazz, but that rabbit disappeared for weeks. I wonder where he is.
And I got an important question! Some level holds a little bigger violence like gallows(you know hanged toads!) and other that kind of stuff, is it allowed or I should remove those? If not should I put at its download something like holds aggressive objects, not recommended under 12 years. They are not brutal really, they more like pretty funny but I thought I should write about it.
Please say something about it

I have deleted the Full NRG carrot and turned it into a +1 carrot (with advice from my bro ;p)
and I am reducing the amount of carrots in my level. There was too many.

Eigus: I am not a big fan of the base placement.
DarkSonic: I like the level using wisetyness. That eye-candy in the fourth level probably only works well during play, since it all blurs together while you focus on other things, but they don't look that interesting as screenshots in my opinion. I suggest focusing on smaller details too.
Jimbob: Man, that level needs some serious ec in my opinion; you probably have to rape that tile-set.
