Description

This level has been around for quite a while, but I never got around to releasing it. It was made for stripe’s CTF level contest, but didn’t win. The tileset this level uses is Winterland Wonder.

This level has a few rather interesting tricks you can do in it, one which involves using a copter to go through a tube in the wrong direction. I designed this level so it is easy to get around in it, and the layout is fairly original. There are plenty of powerups, one full nrg carrot, and one 1h carrot.

FIRST REVIEW. OMG OMG OMG =)

I like this level. Nice and interesting ideas, very fair team balance. I loved the copter trick. That was evil xD

The eyecandy was used very well, however some springs were hard to use. It was very spacious and nice place for the player to control, and not claustrophobic. The level is very fun to play in, all the way from 4-10. Great fun all the way

A well deserved 8.2 :D

Quite a charming little level… I think EvilMike really made this tileset shine; he uses it pretty well… and the music is very, very good too! A trance/rave tune that fits in very well. anyway, this is a good level and the gameplay matches up to the shine.

It’s loaded with weapons, and that might annoy some people, but this is a CTF level, so it’s fine! The ammo is cleverly placed too… the more powerful weapons are located further away from the bases, meaning flag-snatchers have a fair chance. Also, there’s different routes you can take… meaning that chasing a flag-snatcher and deploying guards requires some thought :) A VERY nice touch to this level is that it requires exploration… you need to understand the different routes and figure out how to get into the secret room… very nice concept.

The flash is the thing that’ll impress you first… but underneath the flash is a pretty solid level too! Great old-fashioned fun

Ah, yes. “This level is untitled” coinsidently is a title. Anyway, I’m too lazy to think of another good opening sentence, so I’ll just start my review.

Eyecandy: What can I say? I enjoyed it. Mike added at least a few backround layers which consisted of MOVING snow, and mountains ect. The foreground was basicly all of the one-way events, which I liked. I never really used those in my levels. The bottom of the level has some foreground trees, the backround also has stuff like that. Good effect. No eyecandy problems that I saw…or did I? No wait, no.. I didn’t. Gameplay: Good gameplay is nessessary in a CTF level, of course. I didn’t mind it too much, I spotted a float-up event where it was needed. It wasn’t quite effective, though. There are two copters throughout the level, I think one is enough. The copter by the blue base is just awful, it’s too easy to defend when there’s basicly only one way to go unless you’re there at the right time. (I hate copters) The other one was placed nicely, no problems there. The level wasn’t too flat, it had its usual ups and downs, and such. Simple gameplay, really. You can’t go wrong with simple gameplay. Weapons/Placement: I was a bit disappointed with this aspect of the level. Almost everything seemed to be square or rectangular, not much variety of shapes or anything. Though the level is fairly large, I think there was just a tad too much ammo. There needs to be a better balance. As for the powerups, no problems. There are 2-3 powerups in the level, that’s quite enough for CTF. Other than that, not bad. “This level is untitled” is another quality CTF level by EvilMike. Luckily, I don’t rate titles. ;P Overall, I give this level an 8.2 GOOD JOB, M8.

This level is untitled, and it’s also quite good. This is a sort of Christmas-y level using a sort of non-standard navigational system involving coptors. Coptors have always annoyed me, but the way they are used in this level seemed not to detract from gameplay at all. The teams are very well balanced, and every possible path from each base to the other is used during a standard game, which is hard to accomplish. Weapon placement is nothing short of excellent and other than the blaster powerup having a lot of fast fires near it, it’s never overdone. The only thing that ever even slightly annoyed me during gameplay was that the center of the level, which contains a secret powerup reachable only via warp, can confuse people who are playing the level for the first time. The middle part creates a dead end which can be annoying to continuously run into if you haven’t quite got the feel of this level. There were no tileset use bugs that I could find, which isn’t surprising. The mask on this level was excellent (as is the mask on the used tileset). I didn’t get stuck a single time, and in fact rarely got caught on a masked tile. In short, this is an outstanding level that is very balanced between the two teams. The coptor can be a bit cumbersome, but once you get used to it getting around the level is a breeze. A fantastic level, definitely worth a download and the 8.5 I’m giving it.

Well, we had to wait some time for EvilMike to release his Untitled level, but here it is. And I must say I like this level. Its got all a good CTF level needs, and a bit more to go with it.

I would only call the layout semi-origenal, but it still has some nice tricks that I haven’t seen before or rarely see. The trick with going through the tubes with the copter is easier to do at the red side of the level, since at that side there is a copter practicly next to the tube, while the copter on the blue side is next to the blue base, and thus further away from the tube and more likely to disapear before you reach it, which could give the red team a slightly faster basepath if lucky. There are some nice float ups under one of the trees for if you dont quite make it with the spring, which is a nice idea.

The seeker room is well hidden, and well campable, though there are several tricks to deal with campers. The full energy carrot is well placed, though maybe a bit close to blue, but then again the +1 carrot is closer to red, which sorta balances it nicely. The layout is well playable, very fluent and is easy to learn. The other powerups are also well placed and divided throughout the level. Ammo comes in large groups of about 12 +3 guns at a time, so means you can get your gun filled up fast after you die, which is always a good thing.

Eyecandy is also very nice: Mike certainly did what he could with Disguise’s great WinterlandWonder tileset. The ground is nicely textured, with some white rocks in it. The trees look very nice, and EvilMike did some interesting effects with the tree branches. The big mountian that the tileset provides is in the background layer 7, and Mike put some nice moving snow in layers 5 and 6. The level also features a traditional textured background, giving the level a most charming look. One thing that might have been added would be a slight blue or purple fade colour to the textured background, to make it look even beter.

EvilMike also found a great music file for the level, namely My Wonderland by The Ravebusters; a great rave/trance tune that fits the level very well indeed, and gives it a nice playing atmosphere when playing with music on. I must say I really enjoy this level, and look forward to playing many more fun games in it. A high 8.5; keep up the good work Mike. =)

And yet another great, 140*70 tiles large CTF map from Mr. I-Hate-TSF :-) It uses Disguise’s awesome “Winterland Wonder” tileset, with its very cool snow covered atmosphere.

The design of the level is very good, nothing much to criticize. Many platforms, very open, perfect navigation: “south african school” as i call it (even though it’s such a “cold” level :). The use of OneWays is very wise and so is the event (nice copter) and weapon placement throughout the level. The routes from base to base are not too short and not too long.

As for the eyecandy, it’s very decent as well, but nothing too spectacular: for example, i find the foreground layers a bit underused (the background scenery is very nice, though).

The music is a pretty cheap, but five minute lasting Protracker MOD from Germany that tries to catch a bit of ealy nineties techno hype (at least in Germany). Not my favourite style, and i don’t think that it fits too great here, but hey, i guess the “wonderland” title stands in some kind of relationship to the tileset name :)

My conclusion:
Of course, this is pretty overrated, like all levels recently. That may also be a reason why i don’t want to give a 8 here (which it would actually deserve), but a high 7.5. But anyways, this is your favourite CTF level for the upcoming snowy evenings at home. STRONG DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATION!

Heeheeheehee, Evilmike’s level, that is untitled, heeheeheehee, i sound retarded, heeheeheehee, and this review is going to suck, heeheeheehee. Ok, it’s a good level yet again by Mike. I maybe a n00b, but i don’t care. N00bing owns all. Ok, to the review:

Quite a few tactics i will share in this level. Heeheeheehee, ok:
- Shooting bouncers and electro blasters and camping the carrot at the same time.
- Getting the copter at the red base and goin through the suckertube that pushes you away from the seeker powerup.
- Getting the copter at the blue base or going from the “Full NRG” a going into the wall where there seems to be some sort of crystal and warping to the powerup.
- Getting the +1 carrot when someone else in camping the full one.
- Shooting fastfires at full speed and powered up and all full speed.
- Shooting weapons through the constantly used suckertubes.
- Shooting the carrot down and confusing people, like snooze, i did this to him in Distopia, and he thought the carrot wasn’t respawning, and then i did it here, trust me, it’s funny.
NOTE : I hope this comes out right.

Eyecandy:
My rating: 8.5
Comments: Nothing too original, there isn’t something you glare at and adore, but there is noticable eyecandy. It could be better, but I’ve never used this tileset, because i don’t like it too much. No offence to Disguise. The tileset is good, but i don’t like it.

Layout:
My Rating: 9.5
Comments: Nice solid layout, that even looks solid, seems a very little bit platformy, but is solid. The trees would be cooler is they weren’t in the way. Waaaaa >(

Pickup Placement:
My Rating: 9.5
Comments: Ok… the placement owns, but isn’t to my standards! (It is a joke… duh, your too dumb) And also, there is one incy wincy bad thing, the fast fires and powerup, should not be so close to the Full NRG. All i wanted to say.

General Gameplay:
My Rating: 8.5
Comments: I find some parts annoying such as some on the springs in the way, and the copters blocking the way and making a dead-end, causing you to have to wait for it to spawn, but you can be lucky.
