Sorry about not replying, I got logged off from J2O and didn’t realize it.
The remix was pretty good. I like the electric guitar part, and there is enough variety in the song to keep it interesting. However, the song seemed a little heavy on the percussion, and I couldn’t hear anything other than the annoying drums and the melody. I’d say this would be a great song if you toned the drums down a bit.
I’ll not rate this, because I’ll either bias the rating or get my rating removed due to a not extensive enough review.
I will as soon as a “Music” selection will be available in the “Type” position of re-uploading.
I like Single Player, so here’s my review about this one:
LEVEL DESIGN
The level design is not like in normal single player levels. The concept is, that you find 5 keys and then go to a cave where maybe a treasure is hidden. This concept is not new, but it’s something other than simply “Find the exit, or I’ll eat you” levels.
SCORE: 7.0
EYECANDY
Eyecandy is ok, but nothing really special. The level has no tilebugs, and I don’t understand why Olsen thinks the texture on layer 8 doesn’t work, because for me it worked fine. The level could use more background layers, and I guess you can make much better eyecandy with the tileset Cracco used. I’ve seen worse, tough.
SCORE: 6.5
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is very well, tough the level has some things I don’t like. First is the water, it’s not really logic that if you jump into the water you can walk in it (because the water is on layer 5 and Cracco didn’t use the water event). The second thing is the big jump, which I didn’t manage to do with Spaz because of a masking error. After several tries I had to switch to Jazz. >:(
I also think, if there is a part which you should do with Spaz, and not with Jazz there simply should be buttstomp blocks, made in a way that only Spaz can kick them, then a sucker tube and right after them and there’s no way to do it with Jazz.
What I like is how Cracco made the Vulcano (is that a word?). It’s made very well, so congrats for that. I wished there would be some food or stuff, but there wasn’t. Also it’s plainly easy.
SCORE: 7.0
AMMO
There was only one spot with ammo in it, a cave “under” water, but you won’t need more and it’s regenerating for no reason. :P
SCORE: 6.7
BADDIES
There are very few enemies, not many tough. I think there should be more, to make the level harder. Also, Cracco, trust me, fish do not work without the water event. :P
SCORE: 5.0
HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
There aren’t any hurt events, but lotsa other obstacles, mostly some jumping passages. They could be harder, I think. Also, there’s still the mistake with the jump, that you should do with Spaz, if you don’t wanna be a lamer, but that’s impossible with Spaz.
SCORE: 6.2
TILESET
I like the tileset. Don’t get mad, please, but I will now break up this review and make a level with the set. :P
I’ll finish the other sections later :)
USE OF TILESET
coming soon…
CONCLUSION
coming soon…
The only thing that really annoys me about this site is that people aren’t allowed to have opinions.
It’s not bias if he reviews them all similarly.
To quote Voltaire, “I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”[This review has been edited by mikeejimbo]
Can you please explain what it is and what you can do with it, in general? :)
I’m dumb :P[This review has been edited by PHT]
Rename the file because it may overwrite old Diamondus2.s3m made by Proximus.
First of all, I struggled with finding the secret warp and I don’t like the white flashing sky. That’s irritating.
However, eyecandy is excellent, good flow, cool weapons! Good choice of tileset. I will give this a 9.7, since there is no 9.8 ;)
I strongly recommend to download this![This review has been edited by NeoBlaze24]
The level is pretty boring, but lets check ya statz ;)
EYECANDY: Only about….. 2 or 3 layers use for eyecandy, you only used backround, so that means YOU DIDN’T REALY THINK MUCH ABOUT THE FORGROUND LAYERS
ITEMS: There is only 1 censored carrot in the level, no coins, no POWERUP’s. So it’s AMMO all the way through.
SIZE: IT IS SMALL!!! I mean…. make it larger, man.
GAMEPLAY: Why call it upstairs springs when it’s only got about 4 in it?? Any way. There is no gameplay in the level. And how?? Gameplay is like, the 2nd most easiest thing in the world!!
RATING: 5.2 (Not so good)
FUN-O-METER: Minus Minus something (you know why!!)
FINAL COMMENT: There is not much to say about this level, so i’ll leave it.
And finally, Alien Temple ][ by disguise. Funny how now I have 3 internets (for the 3 seperate tilesets) and 3 JCS (for the 3 seperate tilesets) to compare the sets/ratings for them now, along with calculator ;D. Anyways, review starts:
This tileset also surprised me quite a bit. The quality of the color and the sweet looking crystals etc. There are many animations in this set (waterfalls, glowing green letters) and probably more of them then in the other two sets. The color is awesome here (the textureness), although there is a small variety of it (most tiles are either brown, grey, or green). Backround is there, lots of eyecandy, awesome looking sucker tubes, hurt events, vines, but where are the destruct blocks? ;( ;( ;(. Oh well, that alien dude looks really awesome as well. I really like the crystal rain and the variation of size in the crystals you made. Rating time!:
Tiles Included (keeping in mind the 200 tile limit): 8.7
Important tiles: 7.3
Masking: 8.2
Color: 8
Animations (keeping in mind the 200 tile limit): 8.4
Overall (not an average): 7.7
final rating: 8.05, rounded down to an 8. Interesting, how all 3 tilesets, are both given 8 by me. Shows how close of a race it is =P. This is also a very sweet tileset, and would be nice if Disguise found some extra time to expand it a bit, since so far it looks awesome. Just like the other 2 sets, this gets a definite download reccomendation and congrats to wisey for making suck a good set. GJ.
3rd review by me in the morning, here goes:
CaKeY:
A Cakeyfied set, and lots of cake like things. Compared to Sandy sunsets, it seems to have less of a tile variety (most tiles are ground tiles/sucker tube tiles), but the thing that I really liked was the textureness. When I look at the white ground, it looks fluffy and creamy, just like frosting, and the brown ground it looks just like cake. Im not really sure what the blocky waffle like things for the BG eyecandy is suppose to be, but whatever. There is a (although quite small) backround in this, so that gets + marks. The only animation in this, though, aside from the destruct blocks, is the cake candle. There are lots of eyecandy details for the brown ground included, and for the white ground as well, and there are signs, hurt events, destruct blocks etc included. Looking at this set really reminds me of cake and makes me hungry, which is why I voted for it in the poll.
Tiles Included (keeping in mind the 200 tile limitation): 8.2
Important tiles: 7.5
Masking: 7.8
Color (including textureness): 9
Animations (keeping in mind the 200 tile limit): 7.7
Overall (not an average): 8
Final rating: 8.033333333, rounded down to 8. A definate download reccomendation and congrats to TB for making this set look so much like cake. ;D
Edit: bleh, i had the old version. In the new version, lots of stuff are added/improved such as better backround eyecandy, another animation, a few new tiles, better example level etc. So im boosting this by .2. I feel tempted to rate this 8.5, but that might be a bit too high so 8.2. Goob job and download reccomendation.[This review has been edited by Blackraptor]
Wow, for a set with 200 tiles, Violet did an awesome job. The tileset is just awesome, the eyecandy you can make with it is awesome the houses are pretty awesome, the quicksand rux. The only thing is Violet couldnt fit in a bg, so it had to be a black tile, oh well. I absolutely love the sand waterfalls and the quicksand, as well as the sandstorm and rain in the foreground. There is even backround eyecandy, signs, vines, destruct blocks etc. An amazing peice of work, shows what you could fit in 200 tiles. I hope, in the future, you will consider making an expanded version of this set, since right now, it definately scores high from me.
Tiles Included (keeping in mind the 200 tile limit): 8.8
Important tiles: 7.5
Masking: 8
Color: 8
Animations (keeping in mind the 200 tile limit): 8.2
Overall (not an average): 7.5
Final rating: 8 (exactly). Definately a good tileset and definately a download reccomendation, and sorry for the short review.
Ok, since I just woke up, Im going to keep this review relatively short.
Tropicana Bay:
This level basically has the same style as the levels in CB’s previous pack; collect a bunch of stuff and activate the trigger zones, then return to the exit. The level was alright, although it needed more eyecandy, especially in the backround layers. There were a few eyecandy bugs (61,86, you could see yourself past the layer 3). In some parts the level looked really plain, and Im not really sure how those hooks floated in midair (would’ve been better if they looked like they were attached to something, like that blue thing), and the platform just above 126,30 confuses me a bit because its suppose to be ground yet its in layer 3 so you basically have no idea its not solid until you fall through it. I really like how you did the sucker tube in the volcano along with the floatups, it basically shoots you right out of it nice and easy. On another note, instead of using the water blocks that come with your set you could’ve had actual jj2 water in the level, since the fish enemy are basically useless without it (all they do is just float there). Enemy placement is a bit too scarce (barely any enemies), and the only ammo there is are toasters and bouncers in the beginning which all regenerate. The level was also a bit too easy (I beat it twice without losing and hearts), so you could’ve made it harder and place stuff in different difficulty modes (hard, easy etc). Also, the backround looks a bit screwed up in 8 bit. Overall, Im giving this level a 7. With more eyecandy, harder difficulty(if you want it to be an easy level so new people can beat it, you could make it a lot harder if someone plays in the ‘hard’ difficulty), more pickups and a longer level, you’ll get a much better rating from me. Still a spiffy level and a download reccomendation.
I really don’t agree with the rest of the reviewers. This is not that good of a job and needs work.
mariogama is a quite poor conversation of a typical old vidio game by Nintendo, featuring one of their oldest Mario games. Yet for such a simply game, a lot of the tiles are missing out and some tiles have been too much sized up, such as the mushroom. Despising those facts, it’s even worse. There are no sort of arrows, destructionable blocks, signs, spikes, ect. Neither the set contains any animations or a textured background.
There is also a huge problem with this set. The mask. It’s set to automatic masking, which means that all those decorations that are meant to be bypassed has been masked.
As final conclusion, this set is not worth downloading as it is not worked through.
Why would you want to spend time converting music into midi? It loses unfairly much quality in the conversation.
Eitherway, to the review. The .MIDI version of Fanolint is quite poor and not really worth listning to. It’s very encored and some of the intruments used to the song scars in your head. Somewhat, the original is better than the conversation, and I recom you not downloading this file.
Now this is something you don’t see everyday.
The name of the set says it. Cakey. A land of cake and candy. Possibly the best set recommed for a birthday level. Looking through it make me regret my slimming court.
Cakey does not use a lot of smooth textures or spiffy animations. However, it’s really original and looks paint drawn. All the tiles contains a nice variation between different kind of goodies, like cake, cookies, and so on. The sucker tubes can even be turned into candles. (How cute :) The only disappointment I found in this set was the background. The layer 5/6/7 (Depending on which layer the level creator desides to use for it.) is just the level 4 tiles minimized to about half the size and the textured background doesn’t really give much sense in terms of the set theme.
As conclusion, I highly recom you download the set. :) It is a really wonderful one that truly deserves to be used. Use it in terms of birthday or celebration.
This is more a cave than a temple being, but no matter.
Alien Temple is an excellent quality tileset that has a really nice and smooth use of textures. However, don’t let the first impression of this wonderful use of texture disturb your judgement, as the tileset gets boring very fast. Even with all the nicely drawn tiles, the tileset is still only brown and green. There is no variation in the crystal colors and structure, only the form and size variates.
Although I realize that the set size was limited due the contest rules, it is however no excuse on Jazz2online itself. I’d really love to see this set being continued into a more detailed one with more variation and animations, even the current ones are smooth.. They’re just not very original (animated falls (Well, a crystal, but it’s still under the category :) and a typical glowing symbol. Even some sort of glint would add a lot to the set.)
Overall, the set’s good considering the limitations given, which also caused the drawback in it. Download recommed.
Despite I agree with LRK, these levels remind me my own ones. Strange fact is, LRK had different opinions for this, and mine.
These are awesome, make more levels. My number one suggestion is to not put so much confusing eyecandy in the foreground. Some savepoints would also be nice.
