Argh this sucks, whee yay.
Okay, now that I’ve got that out of my system, on with the review.
Okay, an UT2K3 tileset by Bunnyelmer. First of all, I have to agree with Lab Rat Kid, that making conversions from a 3D game is generally a bad idea, since I haven’t seen a single good conversion from a 3D game. Second of all, I don’t have UT2K3, so I’m not really able to compare it with the tileset. But alright, here goes.
COLORS:
Most of the tiles look sort of low-quality, and the entire tileset has pretty boring colors; its mostly light brownish. The colors of the background look especialy messy. Not much more to say here.
Pros: None that I can think of.
Cons: Boring, some messy colors.
Rating: 1/5
MASKING:
None to speak of, the entire tileset is auto-masked. NEVER, NEVER auto-mask a tileset.
Pros: once more, none that I noticed.
Cons: Auto-mask. Whee argh.
Rating: 0/5
EXTRA TILES:
Apart from some animated warp thingy that reminds me of MEZ03, a few letters and numbers, some rain and some Level/Tileset by Bunnyelmer thingy, none to speak of. Slopes have been added, though.
Pros: Slopes!
Cons: No vines, destruct blocks, poles, etc.
Rating: 1.2/5
APEARENCE:
This apears to be some sort of Egyptian tomb or temple, with wall painting and the regular stuff. The brick tiles look decent, and so do the painting things. Sadly, I’m afraid that if you’re going to use anything apart from the (pretty ugly) sky background it’s going to be hard to tell the background from the foreground. Also, the sky background doesn’t fit together properly unless you flip it, same goes for the palmtree that, I’m asuming, is ment for layer 5/6/7.
Pros: Most of it looks average/slightly below average.
Cons: The entire thing isn’t exactly gorgeous, and some tiles look rather ugly.
Rating: 2/5
USERFRIENDLINESS:
This tileset seems easy enough to use. Thats for the most part because there’s not much to use, though. ‘Nuff said.
Pros: Easy enough to use.
Cons: None, really.
Rating: 4/5
SIMULARITY TO ORIGINAL GAME:
Can’t say, don’t have it.
Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Rating: N/A
OVERALL:
Overall this is a below average conversion. It looks somewhat ugly and dull (though that could partly be blamed on the game it came from… I wouldn’t know), its auto-masked(!!!1111), and has litle to no usefull added tiles.
Pros: Nothing in particular.
Cons: Nice for keeping one amused on a (very) rainy afternoon.
Rating: 2.85
FINAL RATING: 3.0 (rounded)
DOWNLOAD THIS?: Um. No.
nice beat with a techno tune
this level only has a cool tileset
Conversions from first person shooters never come out good because one wall tile from that game takes about 8 – 10 on JJ2, so you have to align everything PERFECTLY. It’s no different with this. I won’t rate it because you didn’t even make it a .j2t, there is no mask, and nothing to do but look at a .bmp. I’ll rate if after you make a mask and create a .j2t.
Bad sorry.
The platforms are incomplete etc.
Gameplay: 0.5
You can like the gameplay or not its funny to hop over platforms the whole time but not a nice battling stile.
Its all the same.
Eyecandy: 0.2
There is a bit eyecandy on a other layer, but its also the same evreytime wich gets boring quikly.
Event Placement : 0
The coins are useless. ANd you cant get to the powerups.
Used : 0
There was no music and for a standaard tileset you should do far more better but you’r just new.
General : 0.1
0.8 I really cant give more sorry.
Download ? No.
Host ? No.
Very usefull thanks a lot.
Try to make some in other style to :).
I’m sorry, but 4.7 is as generous as I’m gonna get with you, bro.
Challenge (nowater): TOO easy. One punch or better yet, (secretmove), and SPLAT. LORI DOES HAVE SECRET MOVE AND I’M NO TELLING. :p. .2/1.0
Challenge (water): ACKITY ACK-ACK There’s a good point. It’s hard but not impossible. 1.0/1.0
Eyecandy: Too bland. .1/1.0
Weapons: No powerups? .0/1.0
Shields: Did it ever occur to you that i’m STILL working on Prject Laser?
0/1.0
It deserves a 1.7, but I feel generous. 4.7. I KNOW YOU CAN BETTER THAN THIS.
It’s good, but you get bored with it. I downloaded this at Jazz2 City.
Sadly, my rating agrees more with BlurredD’s than the others. The layout is too platformish, and platform levels aren’t usually as fun and strategic as non-platformish levels. The ammo itself is a bit sparce and poorly placed. 4 powerups is also too much for this kind of level, and some of the powerups are a bit close together. I despise the carrot placement as well, only 2 +1 carrots which are both near the base. there is also one at the top, but it isnt noticable much. There are also fullenergies, but you can’t reach them. Eyecandy is alright. I don’t like the coin warp idea either. Instead of overflowing the level with silver coins, you can add some gold coins, but I’d reccomend to take out the coin warp. The CTF placement is alright.
My verdict is that the level is suffering from several flaws. Nothing here is really outstanding, and the level could use some improvement. This gets a 5.7 from me and ranks about average. Download reccomendation? Maybe..But I wouldn’t host this.
There’s always that problem with XP…When I upgraded from GOD AWFUL ME to the woderful XP, I had re-install half my software. And it took me a while to find an XP version for this!
Good job!

Yet another good one from labrat:
Challenge: It’s mazy creating pandemonium, a good thing on servers. Pandemonium is rare. .9/1.0
Theme: Clever, instead just red and blue, there’s coke and pepsi. 1.0/1.0
Size: It’s a fairly large level. 1.0/1.0
Eyecandy: Kinda bland. .5/1.0
Capacity: Good, but not enough for my liking. .7/1.0
Total: 4.1/5.0
Overall: 8.7/10.0[This review has been edited by Cazz NP]
Yeah, it’s still not working.
Pepsi vs Coke? Right…
GAMEPLAY:
In a word, no. The level is a little hard to get around (especially with Jazz) and it has too many platforms in it. There were several small dead ends at the sides of the level. I could live with one or two, but there are just too many. And the coins are another problem. There are too many large clumps of coins, and to make things worse, all you get is some lousy food after going into the coin warp. Also, the thin layer of tiles that border the level in some places could allow for flag bug in laggy servers.
EYE CANDY:
I was forced to use Hardware Acceleration (already a bad sign). It may be a good idea to make tiles transparent, but when you make entire layers transparent, it’s never a good thing. Other than that, the eye candy is more or less average. And overall, I’m not too fond of it. I would blame the tileset if I were you.
CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:
From what I can tell, there are three carrots that are accessible (one +1 carrot near each base and one near the top). There could be one more, but that certainly wouldn’t help. Then there are the full energy carrots near the top (which I’m assuming are unreachable) which are there either for eye candy or for taunting players. Either way, I dislike it. As for ammo placement, that wasn’t horrible, but not too good. What I disliked the most was the ice on the platform at 82,7 (I never really liked ammo touching solid tiles). The powerup placement is the most questionable, although it could be much worse.
HOST THIS OFTEN?
Probably not this lifetime. I’m giving this level a 6.
The Edit: While the updates were for the better, it doesn’t improve everything that needs improvement. And the transparent layers could have been a nuisance to many, but it’s not the biggest problem ever encountered. So in all, my new rating is only half a point higher.[This review has been edited by BlurredD]
The compressed folder is invalid or corrupted.
Being a big fan of the UT version of this level, I downloaded it, hoping that it would live up to it’s name. I was very impressed. Although I am a little unsure why the readme is simply a blank .txt document… anyway, review time.
The eye candy is good. Not great, but this is mostly the fault of the tileset.
The level flow is excellent, not once did I find myself saying ‘argh, I have to uppercut to get up there’, and that is very nice. Fairly easy to get to where you want, quickly.
Weapon placement is nothing special..but not bad.
THE COIN WARP MADE ME SO MAD! only a bunch of pop?
overall, this is a very good level. I give it the rating of 9.0.
i definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good, fun ctf experience.
