Despite that there is a few bugs in the level, its an ok race. I like the bird idea, its cool, and good tileset use (even if it is your own tileset) and there are dead ends, which isnt so good for race, if used in a bad way. Still gets a d/l reccoemdation form me

I actually thought this was a battle level as well, if a slightly original one. I didn’t really understand the layout of the level, so I’ll do my bestest to review it.

It makes good use of Disguise’s Spacey Universe tileset, and I haven’t seen any glitches or bad corners. However, I didn’t see much attention to detail – there was just a few craters on the blue zone, and some overuse of the credits. Also, some of the tiles could have been used, but weren’t. Other than this, I found it a little boring – for example the Level 8 has no auto movement, and there’s no other background layers that I’ve found. I know there’s not many background tiles in the tileset, but if that happens take some tessalating ones and make them transparent. Also, in the ‘enclosed’ areas on futuristic levels, make the background semitransparent to make a part-see through wall so the parralaxing background shows through. Looks pretty :)

The idea was good and original, but also could’ve been better. I didn’t start off with a powerup very often either, and there wasn’t much ammo in the green room, so if you don’t like the Blaster you won’t do so well when you run out of ammo. I also found the room changint thing quite weird – you could find your way into all the rooms again apart from the rocky planet one. In the blue zone, there were a few springs that got in the way and a blaster powerup that I couldn’t work out how to reach because of an oddly-placed warp. Also, I’m not so keen on enclosed areas with lots of blocks in them, like the big green room in this level. It’s hard to attack someone, with all those blocks and stuff in the way. Finally, I couldn’t find any layer 3 usage or secrets to find. It got a bit boring, eventually.

This level has lots of potential. It was fun at first, but I eventually got bored of it and started writing this. You could’ve added some more stuff in it, like tubes or belts or secret areas, and spiffed up the other layers a bit. As it is now you’ll just wander around aimlessly looking for anyone to shoot at, in a big green room. It’s not the best, but if you spruce it up a bit you may have a good, fun level to play :)

“too much springs”
That’s the idea. It’s different. That doesn’t necessarily mean bad, you know.

Anyway, I liked this level. It’s a strange concept but I think it’s fun.
The level is also well designed and the Amazon tileset still looks great.

One thing I didn’t like was the horizontal springs though… sometimes you find yourself bouncing in directions you don’t want at all…[This review has been edited by Ninja Dodo]

Sadly, I didn’t enjoy this level much. I agree with Violet CLM, it’s meant to be realistic, but it’s also meant to be a race – you don’t really have much time to view the lovely animals.

The layout of this level is also annoying. It’s a straightforward race, from one end of the level to the other, with various obstacles and going underwater along the way. What I found most annoying was the bit at the start, where you go along some lilies to get some bouncy-bullet ammo, then realise you have to go all the way back again because you missed an entrance.

Also, I found some of the scenery quite annoying. I found it hard to distinguish between the layers, the trees all look sort of the same. I often ran into a tree not knowing it was there, wondering what the hell is going on.

The choice of ammo is weird – mainly bouncy-bullet ammo (I use TNT and ice for my races) – and is placed in places that you have to divert off the main course to get, and you won’t use them much.

I also had a bit of difficulty at the end – I wondered what those birds were for, and couldn’t find the exit warp, then tried jumping on some Layer 5 tiles in vain. I wouldn’t use this level much, it’s far too annoying.

I would have advised you about the hurts, but I was beaten to it.

I know this is your first level, but: always do a check on it and make sure everything seems smooth. The corner tiles aren’t used in some places, and the same tiles are used next to each other too often, it looks too computergamey.

You fight in a series of ‘rooms’ as well – not good. It’s better to have wider, open areas, so everyone can know where they are and get to somewhere else knowingly without using tubes or loops. I couldn’t see where the tubes ended, and had to take random tubes and warps to get somewhere I’d already been before.

There’s a bonus area, but there’s loads of coins, making it easy to get to – make the coins hidden for a bigger challenge.

Practice using the Labrat tileset, and you’ll learn how to use it better. I wouldn’t use this, sorry.

This was a good attempt, but Bmanx2000 has failed in some areas.

On the plus side, it’s a nice, open level with lots of space to explore. I like your usage of the bodies hanging from ropes :) You’ve used the layers, good, and have lots of varied stuff.

On the minus side, however: You’ve used a lot of stuff, but seemed to have dedicated ‘areas’ to them all. For example, I found a load of belts in one area, and the tubes were all forced together in groups. The tileset was used well in most places, but in some rooms the diagonal edges weren’t placed correctly (I find Labrat quite hard to use), and the belts at the start were confusing. Ammo seems a bit sparse in some areas.

It’s a good attempt, but I wouldn’t really use it much. Try to improve it, and I look forward to your next installment :)

1-Those “blue pillars” weren’t ment to be bigger.

2-What do you mean about the flame throwers?

3-The beds are extra eyecandy. Just like the clock and the tables.

About the flame throwers: what did you mean by “out of place”?!?

It’s not bad, but the stuff at the bottom are a little out of place IMO.

I joined a server which used this tileset and I felt like lowering the rating to a 4.5, because the tiles in the palace are too ugly. The walls/floors are just plain colors, no nice patterns or anything. But when I came outside, I saw a beautiful ground, with great water. The outside tiles definately deserve at least a 7.5.
The average of a 7,5 and a 4,5 is a 6, so that’s my ultimate rating.[This review has been edited by CraccoBoy]

This is a nice JJ1 tileset, containing most but not all tiles from the origenal world, but it has a lot of drawbacks which made me lower my rating from a posible 8.0 to a 6.2. There are some tiles mising, like the blue-red planet in the background of the origenal levels, and a few tiles from the walls.

Furthermore the colors seem to be a bit messed up, as if Violet made a few palette mistakes when copy/pasting the tiles; for example, you can see shades of green and purple on the magnets and crashed rockets, and the background’s red shades don’t seem as smooth as they should be; also you can see some dark pixels in the arrows.

Some of the animations aren’t complete, like the fire coming out of the small rocket, and yellow/green/blue wires in the wall aren’t animated like they should be, and the lamp only consists of 2 tiles when animated, making it look very ugly.

Also I would like to point out that this set, though having most of the tiles from the origenal JJ1 planet, misses any updates at all to make it a good conversion, like poles, vines, tubes and a textured background: the least you could have done was to make the origenal background work when textured, like I do in most of my conversions.

Though it may seem that I complained a lot in this review, which I did, I would still advise you to download this set, even if it would only be because its the only version available.

PS: Three Scraparap levels? I haven’t been able to find a third. Is there a secret level?

I personally like this. The eyecandy is OK, but I do have a few rants. One, the flame-thrower thingies are out of place. Two, the background is bland. Otherwise, this is an OK tileset with some good stuff like good candles, spikes, and pillars.

Edit- I mean the orange-red fireballs that come out of those little nozzles and then dissopate. I think they didnt HAVE flamethrowers back in the mideval era… oh well………[This review has been edited by RSPSS FR]

Well, first off: great tileset!
The theme is a cathedral or a church with a graveyard…. included are vampires and stuff like that. Theme is original, I’ve seen no tileset like this one, but the things in the tileset are cliche. Ahh… but I don’t care much.
The texture on the normal ground tiles is very good and on the church tiles it’s also good, but a bit ermm.. repetitive.
After hours and hours (ok, I’m exagerrating) of looking I found out that the white cirkels in the church are……….clocks!
Next in the tileset are destr. blocks, they are (as usual with CB’s tilesets) just the official ones, this time in red with a little psp effect added to make them look…ehm….a bit distorted or something.
Suckertubes are also there and looking nice. Also included are belts, they are pretty ugly IMO but it’s an extra so..
Next is the (also mostly included in a CB tileset) alfabet and some numbers. And a snowman! Totally out of place, I guess it’s a sort of joke, because it’s a snowman from one of CB’s previous tilesets (can’t remember the name).
Next is the coffin of the scary vampire….
It’s animated and can go open and close. It’s looks a bit too straight IMHO, and how it lays on the ground is impossible because it.. well… look for yourself.
Next up are some trees. GREAT quality but I couldnt find out how to use it without having weird ends….
Then some background stuff and some eyecandy wich is o.k. quality.
Then….: the great organ with the vampire playing behind it. Really cool if you ask me! Great drawn, used some psp textures (at least I think they psp) and stuff, but not really the standard “overused-and-everywhere-used” textures.
Then there is some eyecandy stuff inluded smilie-bats :)
Also included are two (ripped, at least not self drawn, probably photo’s) statues: a female ‘angel’ and a man with bat wings, so that’s probably a demon.
Conclusion:
Original theme.
Nice drawing style.
Nice to Great texture quality.
Much eyecandy. (Yay to Jackass and CB!!)
Much possibilities (You could make a grass landscape, with some grave yards here and there, or a church in the grass land, also you can make a curch from the inside, a scary forest is also possible, but last but certainly not least: you can combine it all to make a great, unboring level!)

Good job CraccoBoy and Jackass!

The statues weren’t be me indeed. Jackass usually makes some of the eyecandy. He also did the organ, vampire, benches, altar and the church tiles, including the clock and windows(though I made the background church tiles). That’s why some of the tiles don’t look like my drawing style, that’s only in my solo drawn tilesets (Haggard, Island, Køøl and Party Casino).
