Let’s see…I’ll start with candionbatle.j2l.

This level, named Sweet Tooth, is a decent level in the JJ1 christmas tileset. The eyecandy is fine for the tileset—you’ve got your gingerbread men, your lollipops, your chocolate, and your oreos—who could ask for more? There are two powerups and two carrots: a bouncy powerup, an RF powerup, a full energy carrot, and a +1 health carrot. I don’t see anything wrong with weapon placement.

The main flaw in this level is in the flow. The RF powerup is situated at the end of a hidden passage on the right side of the level. The room it is in has no exit other than the entrance, basically leaving the level as a circle with a line going off it at one point. I don’t know if there’s anything wrong with that inherently, but in this case it seems to make the level a bit restrictive, IMHO. The layout might also be more expansive, and easier to navigate. There are a few dead ends in other places, too, such as the bouncies at the left.

I’ll rate this level a 6.5-7.0. Before rating it I looked at some other levels with average ratings of 7.0; it seems battle levels have a lot to stack up to in terms of competition, so I would say a 7, or even a 6.5, isn’t a bad score at all.

Next level: Dune Battle, filename desertobatl.j2l. This is a fun level with some nice secrets. The bottom part of the level seems fairly jazz friendly; however, it is difficult for either character to easily navigate through the dunes at the very bottom where one’s view is blocked by a foreground layer. I found this an annoyance while playing this level. Enigma noted that some of the hooks can be replaced by vines; I echo this. There’s a passage in the upper middle that can be annoying to climb through because of the hooks.
Rating: 6.8

Last level: Frostbattle, filename nippiusbattle.j2l. Probably the best level of the pack. The flow is very nice; the level is quite easy to navigate. I see no spaz bias; if anything, the level slightly favors jazz (which isn’t bad). With just powerups (plus ice), the level’s three +1 carrots seem to be enough. Rating 7.2.

Oh, yes, I forgot: the music. All of it blends quite nicely with the levels. I haven’t played JJ1—is this the original JJ1 music? In any case, the 3sms are very nice additions.

Overall pack rating: 7.0. A nice battle pack; download recommended.

The tileset is very good indeed, i like the animations even though they get confusing. Well, the basic tiles are there and a lot of blackninja tiles there too. It has weird tiles like popcans and vine doors which actually make it more unique and creative. This is a fun tileset to use, and i will surely use it for an insect breeding chamber ;P

Well what else, nice backround, im not sure, it looks very close to diamondus backround and im unsure if it was ripped or not, ill take a closer look later. The jail idea was funny, and fooruman is still there so i will make a foo race our of this >:D (or spotty will…………or bn……hmmm so its a race they want >:D)

Just download this for the fun of it :) WOOT MY 200th review used on a tileset like this, oh joy…..=P[This review has been edited by Blackraptor]

Ultra!!!! Good job, all the tunes are now way cool!! May replace them in my Jazz 1 copy :). I have an s3m2psm program, so we got that. That reminds me… Im making a patch for jj1 myself so it has different music. The music are mods, just music. No warez, patch for jazz, there you have it. System music and episode 1 is done, so shareware users have the thing ready.

P.S. I’ve heard of levels i havent been in yet in here (and around lately). Are they secret? Deserto, Lagunicus, Paranormalio, etc. Anyone seen these? please send me screens. thunder_px@hotmail.com[This review has been edited by DaThunderPX]

Well, at first i just thougt “oh god, another crappy mario tileset and a few ugly levels” but i was wrong. The tileset is mario like, and to cartoonish for me to use. All the levels are exactly like mario, except they are jazz, the enemy placement, the blocks, the backround etc. The tube idea was ok, buttstomping to go in, and the gems instead of coins, ok.
I would have used Goldcoins though

Nice idea when you fall, you get hurt and warp back up again, that is really interesting and will be used throughout many leves probably. It is much better than just falling endlessly and haing to type in jjk. I just like this pack, and reccoment u to download it if u have time, or just like tilesets and levels copied from other games, other than that, this is an ok pack copying the old old Super mario bros. (I have that game on regualar nintendo btw)

Hmm.. I cant decide beetween a 7.2 and a 7.5, its such a hard desicion. The masking is ok, i will surely make something out of this tileset, and it has the needed tiles, and some animations like the waterfall. This tileset is also very easy to use, therefore it gets a good mark in userfriendly. What else…just download this because its really good, not violet CLM type good, but almost as good.

I’ve decided, not to be cruel, i’ll give it a 7.5 instead of 7.2 becuase i really think its worth that.

Which doesn’t mean there aren’t still bugs..
The main background stuff has three different color sets, none of which have the same two tilesand some of the treebranch background is all weird. And I don’t see the point of the moon inside a cave, but that doesn’t matter.
However, this is a Jungrock tileset without (I guess) the annoying black pixel bugs that people complained about previously. There are also H/V poles, vines, a semi-working textured background, missing tiles, and no hooks. Bah. And I don’t notice any cave Bottom tiles?
(And I notice CelL has been borrowing (which is quite all right) ideas from me.. the textured background gives Jungrock’s JJ1 location)
All in all, this is another decent remake which unfortunately shows CelL needs to invest in some beta testers. Low 7.5, fix bugs and get higher.

There are everywhere lol Black Ninjas that are running, dying, flying, standing, shooting, or scribbling.
Not much to say, the eyecandy is oki-doki. Overall a pretty nice tileset and you must really use, download, this :)[This review has been edited by Taz]

This is alright, the music makes it feel like a mario game. I made a level with your tileset where you get to blow Mario and his brother up. Very easy levels, but the queen boss is to far from the edge so it takes to long to beat. I’ll give this a 8.7.
