It seems like this level deserves a decent review….

Gameplay

This level has a nice flow, this is because the distance between the celing and floor of the platforms here is just right, not too big and not too little. Though that is not the only cause. There appear to be a lot of sucers that suck you through walls. Allthough their destination is mostly obvious, I would recommend not to use so many of them, apply variation and use other events to get through the level, like float ups, wind, copters, swining vines or warps.
The ammo placement is quite good, though I have the feeling that the right side of the level contains more ammo. What is certain is that it contains more power ups, which makes the level a bit unbalanced.

Eyecandy

Maybe the background could have looked a bit more mystic, because it is just mist and woods, I miss the mysic feeling. Also the mountains look a bit too bald, maybe they could have been decorated some. This is the same for the body of the platforms on layer 4, it is mostly either stones or grassy earth. The decoration of the pathways however, has been done better. It has been decorated with plants, threes, rocks, flowers and, most important, demons, in different colors. Most of those things are on the foreground, though I still miss some larger objects on the foreground that overlap your view of your rabbit when passing.

Originality

As mentioned before, there should have been some variety of events in this level, I think this also goes for the eyecandy. This level gets boring fast because of the small presence of variety. Allthough the quality of this level is more than sufficient, it doesn’t give me a feeling of wanting to play it. Some original recognisable features should have been added to make it more than just a level. This level is good enough to be played on public servers sometimes.

Gameplay: 7.5
Eyecandy: 7.5
Originality: 7
Standard JJ2 music: -0.1

Final Grade: 7.2

I just remembered I had reviewed this level already, but then I checked this and noticed that I hadn’t. It is a decent level that I played once in a JDC event, so it should receive more of full reviews.

The atmosphere is dismal, as is the tileset, although the music choice isn’t. I’m sure there could have been better choices, but I’m fine with this one now. I don’t see any tilebugs here, nor anything that feels too bland either. The background here is default, but since this is a new tileset, it’s acceptable. The textured background has a nice fade colour even. There is also enough details in sprite layer and foreground. Napo’s best eyecandy so far.

The level layout reminds me about medieval skycrapers, although here you have solid ground from top to bottom between the two tall fort basements. The level seems balanced enough and is easy to move in around. The level clearly fits better for 3vs3 and larger games, and I rather wouldn’t try to play a duel here. The level has much diversity, as in where a player can go, and the bases seem to be positioned well.

This is Napo’s best level yet, and I’m looking forward to see more. It’s solid, balanced, good-looking, and fairly easy to learn even. Download and host recommendation.

Well, this is a level that practically works well. I played a round of 5vs5 here, guessing it wasn’t yet too much for a level of this size. This is a fairly small level, but it’s quite decent anyway.

Not much to say about the eyecandy here, the background feels rather empty, and doesn’t give the player a ‘living’ atmosphere like a level with good background does. There are also some tilebugs that irritate me a bit(See the first screenshot above.) It is far from the best use of Desolation, but I appreciate it at some rate anyway, since sprite layer and foreground look alright.

The gameplay does work well, probably the best for duels, but a 5vs5 here didn’t feel too crowded yet. There are some tricky dead ends here and there. Especially the bottom-middle of the level where an RF-PU spawns. You can get yourself busted over there by your opponent if you’re not careful enough. Also there are some quite random slopes and walls that annoy me. I often found myself jumping past the carrot for example since the flow isn’t actually very wise. Also I’m not sure if the PowerUps should spawn as fast as they do, since they are actually four.

This is a level that can be fun for a couple of times to play. It’s better than DitS, and is actually quite balanced because the semi-symmethric layout. However, I agree with people that Fort Medina is still better, because it just made more sense in every way. Bonus points for the music-choice though. I’d recommend to download and giving it a try anyway. GJ and Go on Napoleon. :P

There are many questionable things to be found in this level. For starters, I absolutely the despise the use of the solid metal in layer 5 which seems to be horribly out of place. Generally the use of Desolation here is very mediocre. The layout was not bad, but generic and the Full NRG is significantly closer to the blue base.

An okay level.

i am agreeing with pj. the gameplay was decent but eyecandy has slightly bugs and is too random. i think 9.2 is overrating. new edit it slightly better but ec is still not that great in my opinion ^^.

I really like CTF levels made by Nappy . All of them are full or tricks, have great eyecandy and gameplay!

The PUs’ placement is IMO balanced. 4 PUs [2x Bouncy]. I always liked the idea 2× +1C and 1x full energy. We already played there 2v2 so i know that was fine. The flow is very nice, many sucker tubes, springs, etc. what make it better.

You used this tileset very well. Eyecandy here is amazing. I hope this cherry heart is for me xD. I like those thermometers near bases and the light going out a tube! You placed some transulcent tiles, used layers very well. GJ!

DR? Sure! Go, play it

I find this lvl great.Napo you did good job ;)..I tested it as a first player(except Napoleon). And it’s fine play in this lvl.

Recommended wadledee rated 6.7

obviously Man is a friend of Napoleon..

The eyecandy is great, but often very confusing..

The balance of the level is not good, the RF pu is closer to Blu and easy to camp-guard, and the carrots are bad placed. They have to fight for it, not get it for free in their base!

imo there is a bit too much ammo, but still, the lvl is fun to play!

I fell in love with bases. This is the strongest side of napos level. Oh and eyeceandy is great. GJ Napo ;D

After the games played here I must admit that this level is really enjoyable. Powerups and carrots are well placed so generally this level is balanced. Eyecandy is well, but not really excellent. When you play it first time, you can have problems with movement, however I think you can easy learn it. Download recommendation? Sure.

Good, but imperfect CTF level. The layout is solid but there are some slight biases here and there. While the level was easy to learn, there were some annoying complications. The eyecandy was well made, but nothing too memorable. Weapons and carrots were placed okay, although I thought some places had too much ammo, seekers in particular.

We already played here, at tonight’s event.. It’s very good level for 3v3s+. I like it very much and I hope it will be hosted many times, especially at the JDC’s events :D

Eyecandy is fine, I haven’t seen any tilebugs. Two fortresses and some grounds between them is a good idea for a CTF level. There were some empty places in the level, but not so many ;) You could put there some food/goodies for better eyecandy, like some people told You!!

Gameplay & flow are very, very nice. Many springs, one ways what helps with moving around, some sucker-tubes, vines, etc. was well measured before they was placed.

Ammo/Carrots placement is not bad. Full Energy in the middle of the level and +1 carrots under bases. 4 PUs are good for big level like this one.

Very well done Nappy!! Keep JCSing! :D

You all: Download and enjoy Napoleon’s level!
