Its pretty good, story is original, but it fits the levels, enemies are placed well, i didnt really like eyecandy in some levels but it was alright in most of them. There were few bugs (i got stuck a few times and such) but nothing serious. Overall i liked these levels, best one is definetly dark castle.

Played this today and its quite nice.

Eyecandy:

I like it a lot, there’s been quite an effort put in eyecandy. The level looks rather beautiful. There were few tilebugs found but hardly noticeable and it doesent really look ugly either. Background really looks amazing. I think there was a lot of effort used for it. The enemies in walls looks rather good too, i liked it, but more on that below. Nothing much to say here actually, the level looks fantastic.

9/10

Gameplay:

Quite good. The trigger part at the start is quite nice. It did get me lost for some time but it was my fault for not looking at the arrows. However monsters were really easy to beat. Dragonflies and Fish were more or less the only ones that could hurt me. There were some spikes in the water that i thought could hurt me but when i fell on them it didnt. Nothing much to say here either.

8/10

Enemy placement:

Well as i said enemies were rather easy to beat for me. Perhaps the reason for it is because i was able to shoot most of the enemies standing 1 tile above instead of coming down, and the other part was cuz i have just recently played blacky’s map which was quite hard. Enemies here are placed okay just some were easy to pass due to 1 tile height advantage. Boss in the water was a very good idea, and few turtles placed along with him was really good too. But adding seekers AND a full carrot made it rather too easy for me, i didnt even need the carrot since i lost only 1h. Still i very much like the idea .

7.5/10

Pickups:

Very good. I didnt quite understand what do i need RF for, used it once to RF climb into a secret area with blue gems but later i found out that it was connected to the lower passage. You even added a RF pu. I like the idea of putting toaster boxes in a “cold” lvl. Seekers came rather handy against dragon flies and Fishes. i managed to get 1 sugar rush which was okay i guess, i didnt really need it thou. I found most of the secret areas and they are very well placed it really made shoot some walls and explore the whole lvl. there were some monsters in the walls which i thought were also secret areas and i spent so much time looking for secret passages, then i gave up and thought “il just check in jcs” when i saw it was just eyecandy the first thing that crossed my mind was “FUUUUU”. Anyways pickups are very well placed, secret areas were very well hidden, i think i found most of them.

8/10

Music:

It’s quite nice. I think i might use it for some lvls i create. It didnt have any boring parts and it can really set up the mood for the level.

8.5/10

Overall Rating: 8.2

Download recommendation?

Yes. The level doesn’t really have any kind of a story, but it is really fun to play. I would definitely recommend it.

Well after so many retries and so many falls i have finally completed the lvl. Phew.

Eyecandy:

Eyecandy here is really good. I generally hate psych tileset, and i hate the looks of shrooms in general but br used this tileset rather well, the lvl actually looks nice. There were a few tilebugs i encountered but very few, since some flowers were “dancing” and they were near layer 3 tiles it looked is if they are punching their “heads” trough walls.Anyways not much to say here the tileset was more or less used up to its maximum

9.5/10

Enemy placement:

Theyr pretty well placed. They get alont with the tileset well except for the christmas enemies i dont think they quite match the tileset. Enemies are placed in a way that u cant quite just charge upward and shoot and do whatever u like, most are even hidden behind layer 3 but they can still be seen if you focus. The witch i beat quite too easy with the seekers (3 boxes) you’ve put, i just dodged the umm “yellow thingy” and just kept spamming all seekers i had. I’d say that most annoying enemies were definetly the bee’s as they always are for me. They were well placed in this lvl

9/10

Gameplay

Well its quite hard expecially those pit parts. After i fell the first 10 times i just did /r and tried again, since i knew where i was at i finally passed that part. Its not that hard, u just mustnt shoot those platforms otherwise they will swing like hell and it will really become troublesome. 2nd hard part was the other pit, the one with boulders, god i lost all my nerves with that one. Either jump wouldnt work, or i’d get hurt or i’d miss the boulder eh… after many retries i finally passed it. I think there should be atleast 2 checkpoints thou, its quite easy to die and it can get VERY frustrating to have to do everything all over again. All in all the gameplay was really nice it was rather fun to play this lvl. Just have to focus a lot and be carefull is all it takes.

8.5/10

Pickup placement

I will include secrets areas in this one aswell. The ammo, gems, coins and food placements are really good placed i like it a lot. I had 2 sugar rushes but surprisingly that wasnt much at all. I think i found most of the secret placements but one of the secret area i accidently discovered because a boulder rolled there and when i went there it was definetly the MOST HARDEST PART in this lvl. It contained spike balls which left u out of footing and some well placed bee’s which was just far too frustrating. i really stopped bothering trying to pass that one it was simply too hard for me. also there is that area placement im not sure how to get there, i just used RF climb, maybe i was suppost to push that crate with a blue spring there? but i cant push crates and i dont know what was that spring doing there in the first place. well the pickup placements are really good placed there were a lot of carrots which was just about enough for this lvl, no Full C’s thou (atleast i havent found any).

9/10

Music:

Umm… when i played this lvl i couldnt even hear my own blaster or any kind of sound except some messed up high piched noises or sth. Too bad thou :s

As i recall i made a review for this before it was edited, and if i remember correctly it didnt really turn up nice. I can see this was really improved a lot. Eyecandy has been expecially looking a lot better. Alltough i found a few tiles bugs at the lower left corner. Also i dont really know what is that layer 3 usage at the lower left MP start(4 platforms with a “wall?” between them), it looks a bit weird. Also ammo is also improved. Last upload had most of ammo hidden behind layer 3. Nice to see that fixed. You also added a carrot+1 which is nice for such a huge map. still i dont think it was a good idea to put a MP start at the power ups. Also i find it extremly unfair how the blue base has a RF pu and a c+1, while the red has no C+1 and no RF pu, or anything else that would make it more fair. Gameplay was also rather fixed. the map certantly became playable its nice to play in it and easygoing. But its rather spaz biased. However there is one MEGAR flaw i noticed in this level. Left from the red base there is no wall. Now many might not know what does this have to do with gameplay but most also didnt play a lot of pestilence levels that are crappy made, in which u can find some interesting bugs.
Here’s what happens if there is no wall:

http://upload.digiex.net/viewer.php?file=l8anmietm9fsyzzufkf7.png

It appears that if u go as left as u can on the end of the screen u became invincible. As you can see i used a splitscreen and tried to hit myself but for some reason it doesent work if im at the edge of the screen. Well im not completely invincible, i can get hit by stomp/sidekick, but i can surely forsee if a player is gonna hit me that way and i can easilly escape.Anyway im not going to rate this. This map is quite good but still there are few things that should still be fixed. Once you fix them this should be an amazing map, and i’l write a full review for it.

Yay, j2o deleted this upload when laro tried to edit something, and now i have to write the whole review all over again. Please fix this issue so this kind of problem doesen’t happen again. Kinda annoying…. Anyway, the review

Eyecandy
Amazing, simply amazing. The way laro used this tileset is very impressive, alltough tileset is rather original, it still looks awesome. Basic theme of the map is a cavern full of plants, pumpkins and carrots, and lets not forget few waterfalls with trees in walls which looks fantastic. Background looks very amazing. Also adding that rain in the foreground was an excellent idea. The only bad part of the eyecandy are those pumpkins at the bases which are hidden behind layer 3 plants. It wouldn’t actually look bad, but every single pumpkin is hidden by mostly the same plant tile, and it kinda looks a bit lame. You should have freed some of the pumpkins. Still, it looks very good, and the eyecandy is definetly the strongest point of the level. Good job.

Overall: 9.5/10

Pickups
Very nicely placed. I don’t have any much complains about pickups. The only complain is the fact that i think its a bit unfair to have given the left side Seeker power up and the right side has bouncy. In most cases Seekers are overpowering bouncy, but in this map that’s rather several anyways. However the most dominant ammo in this map is definetly the toaster, so that somewhat fixes the Seeker-Bouncy issue. Carrot placements are okay. It was a good idea to put a pit because of players shooting the Full NRG carrot down and burying it with toaster, making it fall down trough that grassy tile and unpickable by any player. This way it will now respawn if someone tries to do that. But i think it would have been a better idea to use full masked tiles and then cover them with those grass tiles in layer 3, because, what about players doesen’t have plus? The pit idea might not work for them (or is it just server that needs plus? I dont know, but to be sure, i think my idea would be better). Anyway, there are some fastfires and they are very well placed, not too much of them but not too several either, so thats a good thing.

Overall: 8.5/10

Gameplay
Now this was a bit of a downgrade to the level. It’s not really bad, but you might have a problem playing it if its one of your first times. There are a lot of areas that are rather simillar looking, and at some point you will get the feeling that you are lost. At some points i thought i was in the middle of the map when i was actually in 1/4 of the map. There were even few times when i didn’t know if i’m in upper path of cave or the downer one. But the toaster and blaster powerups might serve as a sign to where you are, alltough its still a problem if they haven’t spawned. The warps you made are very usefull but only once you have learnt the level. The use of the warp ill once again throw you in the land of confusion. It just gives you the feeling “okay where did i end up now?”. If you remember those pumpkins i mentioned above, the ones at bases hidden by layer 3, i find it a bit annoying not to be able to see my footing clearly. It is such a shame laro did this cuz those pumpkins are very very usefull for S/R/D-ing the base, expecially if you have bouncy, come to think of it, i think this is one of the places where bouncy completely overpowers Seeks. As i allready said, the main and most dominant ammo here is toaster, i would strongly reccommend to use it in most of the cases. When going trough cave best ammo to use are RF or toaster but using RF will make you bounce of the ground due to unlinear footing. Oh i cant belive im saying this, but blaster works here pretty well too, hehe. Anyway like i said at start, gameplay isn’t really bad, its just hard to play in the level if your playing for the first times, but after that you will find those warps rather usefull. Be patient, and it will work out.

Overall: 7/10

Lal, its rather stupid. Personally i dont like the fact that either you or pj do this… rating your own review or whatever. Looks ratehr stupid and unnecacery. And dont lower the rating just because u dont like the gamemode. If you dont like the gamemode then you shouldnt have rated this level in the first place. Leave it for people who do like it.

Ah, when i saw the screens i was like “wow this looks good, the lvl must be great”. But instead…

Eyecandy:
The map suffers rather from the lack of a few tiles and EC. Somewhere there is enough of it, like at the bases. There it looks pretty good. But in the middle… I feel like i’m crossing some empty rooms. It appears the name suits the map quite nicely, if u get what i mean. There were highly any tiles used there…But hordy did use this tileset pretty good. Like ron said, there aren’t any tilebugs, but there are some platforms that looked rather weird. In my opinion in some places there isn’t enough EC. You shouldn’t use repititive tiles, it looks boring.

Overall: 7/10

Gameplay:
Map is rather big. It would be suitable for more players(3 vs 3) if it would actually be playable. The map is obviously spaz biased, and even with spaz its a bit hard to move since some platforms can be far and/or high. Which is why map contains a lot of springs which slows the game and completely ruins it. I also ave to mention some sucker tubes. Well the tubes in the middle, i wouldn’t know if they are helpfull or not… like i said the map is rather big and the sucker tube contains the events with speed 25, which is very fast. However that means u can pass 1/2 map in like 2 sec. It would be like passing 250 miles in 10 min. But still if i decide to walk, and use the route below the tubes, i could go out with my friends, before i get to the other side… Whatever. Basicly you just run around an empty map and u encounter a lot of springs which is annoying, few sucker tubes and warps here and there….

Overall:5/10

Ammo placements:

This is the worst part of the lvl. Ammo placements are rather bad. Lets start with the fact the there isn’t enough ammo at all, and most of them are hidden behind layer 3. Toaster and Bnc pu placements wouldn’t be so bad… if u hadn’t put a “MP start” event right next to them. RF pu placement also isn’t really good. It is an advantage for the team on the right side since they are closer to it(forgot the colour >.<) . C placement seems okay, but for such an enormous map i would have placed atleast 1 or 2 Carrots+1. The lack of ammo actually affects the eyecandy a little, because now it seriously looks like its completely empty. Hehe i do like the texts tough ;d.

Overall:4/10

Music:
This increased the rating a lot, music’s not bad, alltough for something that has the name “dark zone”. i’d say there are better choices than this, but not bad at all

Overall:8/10

Test:

Well then, unfortinetly i dont like tests at all, furthemore i’d like it if people would stop creating them, mostly because most of the test are rather bad, and not much eyecandy are used in them so i simply lose my interest. Rarely i see some tests that are actually pretty good. But i just always see the same ordinary lvls with mostly old ideas. I don’t know why players upload such ordinary tests here on j2o but allright, i suppose there might be some few ideas that are actually new.

Tileset:

As for the tileset, have you really made it on your own? or did u just rip the tiles off from “Top Secret” tileset. I say this because almost all the tiles from this tileset are allready in “top secret” there are even tiles in this tileset that have the text “top secret”. And even tough you took few tiles from other tileset, you could have atleast saved their quallity. Most of the tiles in the set are horribly bugged, and some weird unfilled collours pop out betwen the “closed” letters like “a” or “e”. I do like SOMETHING in this set tough. Even tough it was probably just an accident, the way the lasers are bugged actually looks pretty good, better then in original “top secret”. But i’d still rather use original “top secret” over this rather flawed tileset.

Rating:

I’l go along with SE, and leave it N/A. I mean what exactly is to be rated here. A test that as ideas that have alrdy been seen like a thousand times? Not to mention there are a lot of bugs in the test that SE allready mentioned. Or the tileset, form which the tiles were ripped of of another tileset and rather badly ripped off.

It’s a useful tool i suppose, but the game lags a lot when u use it, and like sean said the alt + S hotkeys for turning this program on is really annoying, as i pressed “alt + s” atleast 30 times trying to move the camera down…But i actually just turned it off… other than that it hasn’t really got any other flaws. It’s good to use this program to overview the lvl easier while in the game. I kinda prefer normal spectating tough (cuz im too lazy to move the screen on my own, and i let the players do it for me ^^).

DL recommendation?

Yeah. It’s an interesting tool to use.

Micky: i had a similar problem, when i turned the camera on, not only did it not wanna turn off, but the camera didnt want to move at all, not to mention that some weird signs appeared, then i transfered my camera file in my jj2 folder and all works fine now, prehaps u should try the same.

Eyecandy couldnt be more perfect, ammo placements are ok, there are only two pu’s, toaster and RF, other pu’s (expecialy bouncy) would probably be way too overpowered, i managed to find two RF climb spots (one at each base) which are really usefull so that u can run away right after u get the flag, its a lot faster than taking fucked up springs, gameplay is pretty good duels 2 vs 2 and 3 vs 3 are all possible, map is neither too small or too big, C placements are ok, its rly hard to make a good lvl with two c’s, few fastfires which is also nice. With a lot of things fixed, this map is actually pretty good.
