Ok, nobody else wants to review? Fine, I’ll do it myself then… Only to give it the rating it deserves before it gets knocked off the list. :p

First impressions

If you’ve seen an “Office” level of some sorts, you may agree that this level takes the cake: it’s a real office building, complete with a basement :P This level gives the phrase “Office Party” a new meaning, as it’s filled with ammo ;). Coins are there too, for a bonus. O yeah, you can move between floors via holes on the floor.

Lay-out

Smal and simple at it’s best. The reason it’s an office building is that it’s… well, nothing more than 2 stacked rooms and 2 basement rooms connected by a smal passage. Like I said before, the stacked are connectd by holes in the floor. No worries if you want to get back up again, there are springs placed in this level. The upper most floor can only be reached by using the coin warp, or should rather, I can easily reach it with Spaz’ double jump! It’s not a total disaster (see “Ammo, Food etc.”), but still, the function of that room is now downgraded. There’re still two secrets left tho, in the basement passage.

Tileset Use and Eye Candy

It’s an Office themed tileset, what would you expect in terms of eye candy? That’s right: roll-away chairs, desks, vending machines, lights and what not. The basement section looks like a basement, with elevator doors, switches (non-functioning), barrels and vending machines. An interesting thing to note is that Art Rabbit used only used layer 5 for background eye candy, but he still filled layer 8. The rest is just plain blocks and a “Keep Out” in the basement.

Ammo, Food, Stuff that’s Good

This is a neat part of the level. Each type of Eye Candy has it’s own type of goodie. Vending machines have ammo (even different machines have different kinds), desks usually have coins, coffee machines have carrots and the message board has fast fire. While that may seem creative, it’s also the weakest part. The Vending machines first. I’ve spotted only one of each kind. You can get all kinds (excluding TNT), but if you want a particular kind, you’d have to run :P Further more, why is there Pepper Spray and Electro Gun in the bonus room?! These two kinds are utterly useless in battle, especially the first (See why it wouldn’t be a disaster if Spaz were to get there?). It would have been better to seal that room and fill it with Power-ups. As for the coins (which are now pretty much useless now), it’s pretty easy to get enough for the coin warp if you’re playing a duel (yay for secrets filled with gold coins). Fast fire and carrots are OK I guess.

Miscellaneous

What bugs me is that Art Rabbit included the set in the zip, but not the music (aws_fire.xm “Breath of Fire” by Awesome). It’s about a megabyte big, so it would fit kinda (the limit is 2 mb, but zip files below 1 mb are preferred), but I understand why he didn’t bother. I just wish he indicated what music he used. The next level setting is ok, the level loops :P

Verdict

A decent level, pretty much fit for carnages with the right ammo. If the pepper spray and electro guns would have been replaced with power-ups and the “bonus room” sealed off. It would have been a 7. For now, it’s a 6.5 worth.

This is ehh, well, DIFFERENT!
I wont rate this, also, IT’S KINDA BAD!
Just like Ðx has sayed. The rollercoaster(s) are little bit bad. They are slow, the names are not right(Big must be small:P) and the eyecandy of it is bad.
The eyecandy by itself, is also bad.
TOO MUCH AMMO ON THOSE BATTLE ARENA!! ALSO TOO SMALL!
The music is also bad chosen.
Okey, hotels are allowed on the site, but this hotel is bad:’( but it’s a bit good for your first, come on that’s true!
The things you can buy in the shops, are slowly coming back! And some warps, not only in the shops, you cant find those warps.
Not more too say, but because it’s your first, I give you a DOWNLOAD RECOMMEDATION! Good job, Art Rabbit!

Well, it didn’t work. So I took a look at the version in JCS and it was terrible. No eyecandy, about 14 – 20 tiles were used, most of which were used poorly. There is NO background either.

No download reccomendation here.

My HONEST rating- Here’s why:

-There isn’t really ANY backround eyecandy in the Muckamok tileset.
-Same thing for deckstar.
-It was not short, it kept me occupied for a good 20 minutes.
-There are very clever ploys to confuse you on which way to go.
-This requires strategy, just like the levels that are rated much higher.
-If I can remember, on mukamock, the green goop HURT.
-There shouldn’t be any open spaces on DeckStar.

5 good reasons, 2 bad ones…
5/7=.7142857142…
Round off, multiply by 100…
70%. Good reason, eh?

FIRST LEVEL
——————-
Nothing special, just a boring maze full of goodies.
SECOND LEVEL
——————-
A little bit better, nothing special.
THIRD LEVEL
——————-
A boss level, again, nothing special.
FOURTH LEVEL
——————-
Not as bad as the others, actually pretty good.
FIFTH LEVEL
——————-
Another boss level, horrible because the boss wouldn’t get hurt :-/

I gave it a 5 because the enemy placement was nice, and… well I don’t think this level pack was awful.

Nice try, in the future, I reccomend the usage of one way events, getting interesting eye candy, and making it so you can only get to the coin warp destinations if you go through the coin warp (I could easilly get to the secret area in level 4 without the warp).

Download? If you want, nothing really impressive, though.

Oh.

STORY: No story.

TILESET/TILESET USE: The author uses automasked versions of Muckamo and Deckstar, and neither are used incredibly well. Muckamo fits together, but there’s no background eyecandy, and the levels are sparse enough it ends up looking really dull. Deckstar isn’t really used correctly, and it comes off way too boring. The author could have at least used conversions (NeW’s Mayhem has both of them.. or he/she could have used Haze’s Muckamo Day), but he/she didn’t, so the slopes in Deckstar don’t work, but the windows are masked, while in Muckamo you stand on top of stars in the background.
Pros: Muckamo fits together.
Cons: Very plain, masking difficulties.
Rating: 3.0

WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT: There are actually quite a lot of weapons. Mostly Bouncy, but towards the end you get some Toaster, Ice and Seekers, while at some points there’s TNT to blow open a secret. It isn’t placed with too much care, but there is enough of it, to be sure. In levels 1, 2 and 4, there are 100 coins scattered about the level. Collect them all, and you get some sort of reward at the end. This is interesting, but the coins are all a bit too out in the open (in fact, they’re on the linear line of gameplay, for the most part), so they could be done better. The other various goodies are placed ok, with the notable exception of the Gem Rings, which are placed directly next to the ice powerup (!). As for enemies, I can’t say too much about them. They seem to be placed basically where there’s room, though some places show a bit of thought (like the dragon flies).
Pros: It’s decent.
Cons: Ice + Gem Stomps = No.
Rating: 5.2

ORIGINALITY: These levels are, to put it bluntly, not very original, with the notable exception of the final level, where you fight Uterus on either swinging vines or a bridge (your choice!). This surprised me in contrast to the previous levels, which were very linear (except for the maze in the first level) and (for the most part) uninspired. Muckamo, overall, came out tops in terms of originality in this pack.
Pros: Some originality.
Cons: Not too much, and the Deckstar levels are just dull.
Rating: 4.5

DIFFICULTY: These levels are, for the most part, not hard at all. It’s a little challenging to remove the orbiting spike balls from around Uterus, but other then that, there are enough carrots and weapons to get you to the end of the level basically (if not completely) intact.
Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Rating: 2.7

REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: These levels (again, with the exception of the last level) are not paticularly entertaining. They consist mainly of walking through the enemies, jumping up and down a little to collect the coins, and reaching the exit with not too much thought required. There are one or two trigger crates, but they are not incredibly interesting (though they did help the first level out).
Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Rating: 3.0

OVERALL (not an average): The author shows promise, but the fact of the matter is, these levels are not all that good. The eyecandy is plain (try to use conversions, and not the original things, next time), the gameplay boring, and the difficulty low. However, if he/she tries a little harder, I can evision better levels coming our way.
Pros: Levels 1 and 5 are ok, Muckamo fits together.
Cons: Nothing too interesting, gameplay poor.

“Medivo Battle” is a minibattle level. In fact, at 50×40 (and not much of that used), it is quite mini. Most minibattle levels feature a moderate amount of powerups and are well-fitted for a lot of people. While this level does fit the criterea, it suffers from an overdose of powerups, a lack of interesting eyecandy, and a way-too-easy to get coin warp. This level probably does not have that much effort put into it, but shows some skill. Everything is placed together in a way that demonstrates some knowledge of JCS. However, after that, there are some major problems with this level that definitely need attention before it can be any good.

TILESET/TILESET USE: The “JJ1: Medivo” conversion is used in this level. Unfortunately, it is not used very much. Most of this level consists of being in the air, so there is not much eyecandy for a lot of it. It would have been nice to at least see background eyecandy in the areas in which you were in the air, but there was very little if any. The areas on the ground demonstrated acceptable eyecandy, and although they were not amazingly good or flashy, they were good enough.
Pros: The areas on the ground have acceptable eyecandy.
Cons: The part of the level which takes place in the air has very little eyecandy.
Rating: 3.7

WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT: If there is one place in which this level fails, it is weapon and item placement. There are simply too many weapons and items. Powerup overdose is a big problem here. There are almost ten powerups in total within this level. That makes one powerup per about 20 square tiles, which is pretty overdone. You might think that in such a small level, this would make it really easy to be killed. Not so. This level balances out the amount of weapons with invincibility carrots. This is, however, where the level makes a big overestimation. It makes this overestimation in the fact that the carrots have way too long of an effect. The player who gets it is invincible for 15 seconds, while they can go around and kill and heal. This is way too long. While this would be acceptable if there were a lot of players in the game at once, this is not necessarily always what happens. It needs work in this category.
Pros: Not as bad as it could be.
Cons: Overestimation on amount of powerups versus carrots.
Rating: 2.5

ORIGINALITY: The idea of minibattle levels are nothing new to say the least. However, they are somewhat original. Though that does not necessarily mean the level is original. I doubt this level was intended to be micro, and it has nothing that shows that it is in the microbattle format, so it is nothing but a really small battle level. Sigh.
Rating: N/A

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN: The gameplay falls short, much like a lot of other things in this level. This is mostly because of the problem I mentioned early with the carrots and powerups. It is true that this is a seperate category. However, it is badly affected by this, and therefore that deserves mention. The rest of the non-related category is not exactly very good either. For instance, the level’s layout is awful. The level flows badly, and collisions are extremely likely. This category is not so good.
Pros: A few interesting places.
Cons: Not many. Masking issues. Not ver interesting gameplay. The carrot/ammo problem.
Rating: 3.2

REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: There is not much replay to this, unless you are in a server with a lot of people. I suppose in that case it might be mildly interesting, but probably not interesting enough to keep interest. Wow, that was redundant.
Pros: N/A.
Cons: N/A.
Rating: 3.2

OVERALL (not an average): I think the rest of this review pretty much sums up this level. Too small, not of good quality, and generally not worth it. Sorry, and while this does show effort, I’m afraid that it is too small to be worth anything more than the 3.5 I am getting it. Perhaps consider making a bigger level next time and spending more time on it.
Pros: Eyecandy could be worse.
Cons: And everything including it could be better. Much, much better.
