Great episode, but sadly the third episode will likely never release, considering it’s been about 9 1/2 years.
Playing through the new version, I seem to be experiencing a bug. In mo4a_0.j2l when I turn on the switch to make the platform move, the camera doesn’t return to the character’s position. I tried using jjk but then I couldn’t move at all.
I’m not sure if this is just me but I wanted to warn that with JJ2+ the crystal puzzle on devres66.j2l (Deluge) seems to be broken. I activated the three crystals and the door still won’t open. I tested it in non-plus and it worked fine.
So this is great. But it’s a shame the rest will probably never be finished. I will write a proper review later, but I will say it does some things the original Tomb Rabbit didn’t do, and the variety of areas you go to is a nice change from just exploring tombs. (Not that I didn’t enjoy the tombs!)
I’m not sure if one of the JJ2+ updates broke anything, but the music doesn’t change for me. Also oddly “neve.s3m” doesn’t play, and I had the same issue with the original levels.
Edit: I opened up the original UMX file in OpenMPT and saved it as an S3M over top of the one in my JJ2 folder and it works now.
This level pack is fantastic and probably one of the best made in a long time. There’s a lot of variety between the different levels, with my favourite being the fourth level (I love Metroidvanias). I thought the gravity reversing balloon was a clever idea, and the raptor claw puts an interesting twist on the physics of JJ2. The new enemies are all really cool, and the restriction on special moves adds an extra bit of challenge.
I had a very good time with this pack and it was actually the first I was able to (mostly) fairly beat. This probably had something to do with having infinite lives. And I only missed some gems on two (three?) levels.
The pack is a great showcase of what can be done with JJ2+ and AngelScript (much like Violet’s earlier Ozymandius) and I would highly recommend everyone to download and play this pack (especially if you haven’t played JJ2 in a long while like me). I look forward to more levels and packs like this (from Violet and other people).
When you download the zip file and look in it there actually are files in the zip.
It won’t work.
I have Windows XP SP 2 and Jazz Jackrabbit 2 1.23.
When I try the level selection example and press Alt+Shift+“number” it just stays on the same level. The boss level doesn’t seem to work either, or I might just not have been hitting the crates enough times. Is there a specific number of times I have to hit the crates?
This is one of Fire Sword!‘s best levels that I have seen. Read the rest of my review to find out why.
The eyecandy is incredibly beautiful. Lots of differnet types of eyecandy such as: waterfalls, trees, grass and diamonds. The background has been done nicely. The layers have all been used very nicely. There are also falling leaves in the foreground.
Ammo Placement: 2.0/2.5
The ammo is placed quite well in my opinion. There is a good amount of ammo throughout the level. Lots of places have ammo in them, so I think the ammo placement is excellent.
Level Structure: 1.5/2.0
The structure of this level is very good but it can be quite confusing at times. But overall it is not that bad. So good job on the level structure.
The gameplay of this level runs quite smoothly and I think that it is very fun to play this level. The gameplay was made very very well in my opinion. So good job on the gameplay and continue to do this in your other levels.
I think overall that this level deserves an 8.5 beacuse it is just excellent. Keep up the good work Fire Sword!
Download Recommendation: Yes!
Host this Often:
If you love battle levels then, yes you should host it often.
What happened to the example level?
You forgot to put the music and tileset in the zip file.
Yeah. I made a review!
Now on to the review.
The eyecandy was excellent. There is lots of eyecandy such as: trees, hills, a bunch of different signposts, some destruct blocks, some buttstomp blocks etc.
The Graphics Quality is excellent. It is a bit cartoony but that dosen’t make it bad Graphics Quality.
I like the example level. It shows how to use this tileset very well. The hills are used in the background, there are some trees which I agree with Neon PSY that the apples look like they are part of the trees, some destruct blocks and also some butstomp blocks.
The music is an excellent choice. It fits the level very well. Good job on picking the music.
This is one of the best tilesets i’ve ever seen! Keep up the good work LRK.
I think this level is good enough that it deserves an 8.0
Yes! This tileset is excellent. I think everyone should download this tileset. I hope to see ons of good levels made with this tileset. I might be one of those people.
The level was bigger before. I just lost some of the level for some wierd reason. The level used to be better. ~Bloodrabbit
This is a pretty good tileset for a game made in the 80’s. It has old graphics but it is still pretty nice. Good job at making this great tileset conversion. I like this tileset conversion and I sort of like Bomberman. There is lots of eyecandy in it like: bombs, skulls, flames coins etc. I like it because it is a very good tileset conversion.
Keep up the good work MSB3000. I hope to see more great levels and tilesets from you. I will review your other levels too. That is the end of my review.
I give this an 8.0.
I’m the first reviewer of this level. Yeah!!!
Now for the review…
Monster Bash Conversion:
Monster Bash is an excellent tileset. The eyecandy isn’t good but, it is good for a
DOS tileset conversion. I think it is very good. I think everyone should download it. The eyecandy is things like skulls, gravestones, skeletons, ladders, treasure chests and skull flags etc.I won’t rate the example level but, it is anexcellent example level. My conclusion is this is a very good tileset. Keep up the good work LRK!
Download Recommendation: Yes!
Overall Rating for the Tileset: 8.0
It won’t wotk in my Jazz Jackrabbit 1. I have the full version. When Jazz Jackrabbit 1 finishes loading the level Jazz Jackrabbit exits to Windows.
Ok here is my review.
Eyecandy: The eyecandy of this tileset is awesome! There is tons of eyecandy in this tileset. I really like the green hills and the three blocks you can shoot and buttstomp.
The grapahics quality is pretty good. The graphics of this tileset are awesome! Make more tilesets with this quality of graphics.
The example level is really good. It shows all the stuff you can use in this tileset really well. I like how the sand and rain come at different times it makes it look more realistic.
Music: The music was an excellent choice! I think it fits the level very well. The name of the music also fits the name of the tileset.
Conclusion: This tileset is the best tileset I’ve seen. Wow! Make more tilesets like this Violet CLM.
Overall: I give this an 8.0.

This is execellent. I give this an 8.
(Unsupported rating removal. If it’s so good, why not give it a 10? There are obviously some flaws, but you don’t tell us at all what they are. Your description of things is sub-par at best – “good” doesn’t tell us anything. What about the actual gameplay? Is the level original at all? Just a few things to consider. ~Violet)[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
