"Carrotus Squash" is another attempt by martin to make the perfect level. And really: you won’t find any bugs in this battle level. martin actually is a level scientist. He spends hours and hours hunting for the smallest design or tile bugs.
The design is awesome and makes it very playable. Eyecandy and weapon placement are very good, too.
Unfortunately, this level has nothing that usually gives me a reason to rate it 9 (which is, as you may know, my highest rating so far) like great selfmade custom tilesets, a large amount of levels in a pack or, very important, exceptional creativity! Oh and by the way, and i still like 5 Alive best. Town definitely beats Carrotus :-)
Nevertheless i respect martin as one of the most dedicated levelmakers ever. He shows what is possible with Epic tilesets.
And of course, i recommend to DOWNLOAD "Carrotus Squash" immediately.
I will rate this (and edit my review) someday. At the moment, im too lazy to figure out what Assault was.
“Spiffy little level pack” is the understatement of the week! This pack is nothing but awesome and probably one of the best homecooked Jazz2 things you will ever find.
It would take too much time and space to describe and praise everything in the SXR pack so i only can give some examples: there is a very spiffy Intro using a QoB-like menu from where you can choose story, credits etc..
And there are tons of pretty hard puzzles, eyecandy, enemies, MCEs in each of the levels (and there are so many levels!). Most levels use kewlish custom music and some of the best custom tilesets.
I really can’t say much more. “Shellion’s Extreme Revenge” is definitely in my “Top 3 downloads ever” list (AS and SXR are my favourite packs, i think). And i even thought about giving a 10 here. Well, HiGH 9 (NiNE!) POiNTS!!! Incredible! More than just a MUST-DOWNLOAD!!! Awesome work, Spaztic (+Oli and the Majestic Mappers team)!!!
P.S.: The pack also includes six great battle levels (three by Spaztic and three by Oli).
No need to rate this.
Please think about your high rating, FoD. I don’t think it’s appropriate at all.
Well, i have no clue who or what exactly "Dragon Ball Z" is but this is not the right place to give my opinion on japanese TV cr…ehm…comics.
Now, this is a pretty good tileset with a lot of useful and well-drawn tiles (despite the fact the authors used Evil Paint :-). It even features many cool animations (fighting heros of that TV show i guess).
Another great thing are the background structures that look quite interesting. Splash and Payback also included a nice example level that shows many elements of the tileset in use.
To conclude my review: this is definitely worth a DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATiON! For all comic and custom tileset fans this will be a good choice.
P.S.: As an old MS-DOS veteran, i nearly start crying when recognizing filenames like "Dragon Ball ((.j2t"…argh…;-)))
"Banana Beach Demo" is a great pack to download: it includes a pretty kewlish new beach tileset with lots of useless & funny tiles.
The single player level itself tries to demonstrate what a good level maker is able to do with the set. The design is very good and so is the eyecandy (interesting viewing perspective, kinda 3Dish/2D isometric or how is that called?).
The enemy placement at the ending of the level ("hard path") is maybe a bit overdone…but well, its your choice which "path" (hard or "explorer") you want to follow :-)
My overall rating: Low eight points and a MUST-DOWNLOAD for every real Jazz2 fan. Good work, Kejero! I really look forward to see the "full version" (the author labeled this "Demo") of your levelpack!
I copied and pasted the following text from my original review of the first release of "Aztec":
"I dunno what to say: i just love Blades uploads! Everything looks and sounds so cool. This is another superb tileset that includes a short demo level and beautiful background music. You’re an elite tileset/level jazzer, Blade! Everyone download this! Its an order! :-)))"
I didnt change my opinion on it, it even gets better. The design of the example battle level is great and the music choice is pretty cool (but not as good as in your other packs, in my opinion…a bit too techno-beat-like).
"Aztec v3" by Blade (member of //*tha famous iSDN Army*\\, yay for us!!!) is a MUST DOWNLOAD (again :-)!
First of all, i really appriciate that authors use superb custom tilesets like DethMan’s 7th Lava Fall (btw this is the first major bug: in the readme you thank Jeh for the tileset…).
And the set isn’t used that bad at all: the eyecandy is quite okay in my opinion. Well, there are still some masking/tile errors though. And the foreground layer with the "falling lava" will get very annoying after some minutes!
Now, the bad side: The design of the "Pyramid of Steel Fury" is (slightly below) the average. There are lots of things that i dislike:
Sandglasses (very annoying event i think), Airboards (pretty useless in this level), Hurt events (they will only hurt the server, believe me!) are some examples i found.
The pack also includes a custom music file: i’m not sure if it fits to the atmosphere of DethMan’s "dark, industrial" tileset but it still sounds…um…pretty funny. I’ve heard MODs that were worse.
To sum it up, this is a nice level, mainly because the author tried to use a great tileset and custom music. The design (actually design is the most important part in a level :-) itself is not that good.
I think J2O’s readers could take a look at it. I was very undecided about the rating (5 or 6?). Hey, it’s saturday…very very low six points for you :-)
I fully agree, Fquist. Dont let ‘em mess up this coolish website called J2O!
Contains some very blocky letters to write the authors (and his clans) names and a few bad colored Wingdings symbols.
There are also some “structures”, that could eventually be useful when making a level. One them is probably a bed :-)
I don’t plan to visit this hotel, thanks (= No download recommendation). Sorry, i just can’t think of a level when looking at this “tileset”. Better include an example level next time :-)
Not much too say here. Very useless tileset containing 20 tiles, most of them are just blabla "font tiles" saying things like "Stuff is good" etc. Very funny. Duh!
Don’t waste your time downloading this. I guess it was meant as a test or something. Sorry (no offense to author!).
P.S.: There is no example level, but well…how could that look like? I have no idea.
Lets clear up something first: as far as i know, “mrplonker” is former “hac2k”.
Now, i won’t make a long review for a level like this again. In short: the design is far below average (very monotonous), there is no eyecandy and the tile/event/weapon placement is just bad in my opinion.
But well, you submitted it, i, as a jazz2 fan, rated it. C’est la vie.
P.S.: The next level setting is missing/wrong also.
P.P.S: To all authors, please DO NOT include Epic tilesets in your ZiP files. That doesn’t make sense.
In my opinion, it’s a good idea to use a "different" tileset and the resulting level is pretty neat.
Although the author could have added some more eyecandy, the design is quite good.
What i dislike is the music choice: Skaven (former FC member, yay!) is denitely one of my favourite trackers but my ears start to hurt when i gotta listen to this track: maybe it’s great technically, but it’s just too loud and i miss a melody. Prolly that’s because the song was composed for an evil 3d shooting game called "Unreal Tournament" :-)
I was very very undecided between six and seven points but i’ll give out VERY LOW SEVEN (6.56) points because ICeD used this cool tileset. -> Download! and check out the level yourself
Heh, i beat it. 5 minutes :-) Im experienced in exploring confusing levels i guess. Actually i don’t think "FoDTemple" is that bad. The tileset is used nicely and eyecandy at least still hits the average.
Of course, it could get very confusing to find the exit ‘cause of all the different paths in this "Tower". And there are also some minor tile/mask bugs.
Summary: I don’t know, just download if you feel like. Its not a must.
Pretty nice level using the great Temple tileset by EvilMike. Design and eyecandy are good.
Unfortunately it’s a bit too easy and the warp event is overused. Nevertheless, this is a good single player level, at which everyone should take a look.
FoDDiamondus is a slightly above the average single player level i think. The eyecandy is okay but i found some things in the design, which i dont like: for example, there are “dead-ends”, places where you have to die or keep falling (like in an Sierra Adventure, i more prefer LucasArts ;-)
Besides i think that a real good level needs an original name. However, if you are bored and want to have some 10-minutes-single player fun this could be interesting. Decide for yourself.
“Disguise’s Beach Bonanza” (hmmm…:-) is a first class battle pack including two Beach levels.
Okay, lets check my fully automatic review creation station: Eyecandy is great. Bleep. Design…brilliant. High seven points (7.6). Download recommended!
EOF. Please give new input, need more Disguise levels. Bleep.
I can’t help it: i just like Disguise’s level style. And Colonius is actually one of my favourite tilesets. Heh.
I think this is another great quality level release with many interesting ideas of how to use the tileset. No doubt, design and eyecandy are great, as always in Disguise’s levels.
As you may know, i’m not a CTF expert so i can’t say much about the base placement. But i agree with iCED that they were not too easy to locate.
What i dislike a bit is the music choice. I think the fast-paced custom track (which is, btw, not included in the pack!) doesnt fit very good. I’d would like to listen to the original Colonius music here.
Overall, it’s still great and a another Disguise creation that no Jazz fan should miss!!! Download now!
Aha, a new experimental review fashion invented by iCeD. Well, you know im pretty conservative so here i go:
I fully agree with the author: "Toxic Waste" (don’t get it mixed up, ShadowGPW also released a #1 level called "Toxic Waste") is one of my favourite levels by him, mainly because of its great design. The layer work and everything else is first class as well.
To sum it up: it’s always fun to roast some bunnies in this level. I really think its a classic and a MUST-DOWNLOAD! (Low eight points. I was undecided between 7 and 8 points.)
"Jungle Warfare" has everything a great battle level needs. Beautiful eyecandy, superb design and the weapon placement isn’t that bad in my opinion (i guess thats because i’m a Battle/Disguise fan).
Everyone should download this and host a decent online battle party! :-)
P.S.: The next level setting is "wrong", if you dont have the level "dis25" (very minor bug i think)
