Bloodlust is finaly released in a 1.23 compatible version: so on occasion of this, here’s the first review I’ve written in probably well over two years. It’s been a long time, but here goes…
Bloodlust is a quite old (I believe it was first released in 2002) battle level, made using the Death Metal tileset by our favorite German tileset artist, Skulg. This medium to large sized battle level is probably one of White Rabbit’s finest creations, and as he is already one of the more talented mapers around, that should acount for something. I remember beta testing this level before it was released and loving it, and two years later I still think it’s a great level.
The level, as I mentioned before, uses the Death Metal tileset by Skulg, which is basically a combination of often blood-stained looking metal bars, and a lot of eerie looking skulls and bones. The tileset has a somewhat dismal and creepy look, and the same holds true for the level. Tileset use was basically flawless; I couldn’t discover any tiling errors, and even if I’d examine the level more closely in JCS I’m not sure if I would. The eyecandy, though offering nothing different from what you’d ordinairily expect from the tileset (which is ok, as this was one of the first levels to use it), looks great; the dark red sky, the mountains in the background, the skulls and bones and bloody pieces of metal give this level an enjoyable eerie atmosphere. The music, Shutdown by Teque and Trauma, is a rather old mod from the year 1997. It fits the level nicely, adding to the well-made atmosphere.
The level’s layout is quite good, not spectacular. The level consists of a number of platforms floating freely in the crimson sky. There is no aparent intended structure to the platforms that I could find, but that’s allright. The flow is generaly good, though not perfected; at times I find myself bumping my head against walls or narowly missing ledges. This is actualy somewhat of a good thing though; lots of levels lately are so well polished that, using suckertubes, slopes, spring and float-ups that sometimes the only thing people have to do to get from one place to another is change direction once in a while. This level’s platformy design style promotes a lot more jumping and overall conscious playing, which is a nice break from what most levels have been like lately. The free, open layout also makes for some Jazz-friendlyness, which is something that is always good to have.
Event placement is also well done. Most useful powerups (as in RF, seekers, bouncers) are present in the level. This isn’t really a bad thing; the level is large enough, and battle games have you start with five hearts in contrast to CTF’s three hearts, which warents a larger powerup arsenal. The powerups are scatered nicely across the level and all require you to have electro blasters to reach them, so it’s all good. The two carrots are both positioned at the left part of the level; it would have probably been better to put them at the left and right sides respectively, but with the large amount of powerups and easy to navigate layout I guess it isn’t too much of a problem. General amunition is scatered well throughout the level, not too severely clumped together but also not too sparce.
There’s not really anything more I can say about this level. It’s simply a good, enjoyable battle level you should certainly add to your collection. This level gets the rather high rating of 8.5 and a download recommendation from me!
Great job WhiteRabbit, a level that is truly worthy of AB. Well, Blood Lust is a level in Skulg’s tileset with skulls and stuffz, i 4got name :(.
Layout:
My Rating : 8.0
Comments : The level is really really really really platformy, maybe its just the tileset, but still, could be less plaformy. A bit of dead ends, some can be overwhelmed by RF climb and other tactics. Overall an 8.0 from me.
Eyecandy:
My Rating : 7.5
Comments : The tileset has limited eyecandy, but you used it okayishly i guess, i cant say much here.
Gameplay:
My Rating : 8.0
Comments : Yes, there is good flow and all, but there are a few dumb parts. Good tactics in this level, and this is the 1st level i have seen from you. So i cant compare anything. Not much to say here.
Placement:
My Rating : 8.7
Comments : I especially like this, kind of original placement, like the ammo, springs and so on.
Overall: GOOD
Yet another battle level by White Rabbit. Let’s view it, shall we? Cringes at use of royal “we”
This is a solid battle level using the “Heaven” tileset, which we are all farmiliar with. The level is overall very spifftacular indeed, though there are a few minor kinks that could have been avoided and raised the rating. Regardless, if you are a battle fan, and even if you just play battle games every once in a while, I can guarantee you that you will like this level. Judging by Violet’s review, this level is not very stable. I have to agree. When I ran it at first, my computer froze. The next time, it nearly froze and I had to resort to good ol’ end task. The third time apparently was a charm, as it ran, and quite smoothly at that. I am glad that I put forth the effort to get this derned thing to run, because this derned thing is derned good. The flow of this level is possibly the best part of it. There are very few bugs that I noted, and no dead ends. Eyecandy was right behind it, with some spiffy-looking stuff, though there were a few ultra-minor errors. Weapon placement was generally good, though the seeker powerup was placed in a lame fashion (come on, show some creativity! ;-P). Still, weapon placement is overall good. There were not many errors at all, which is nice to see. A great battle level and definitely worth a download.
+ PROS: Overall, a very nice battle level. Excellent flow.
- CONS: The seeker powerup was placed badly.
VERDICT: I give this an 8.2 and a download recommendation, especially for battle freaks. Great job, White Rabbit!
cool level
can I get a room to?
Few hotels even get passed the “I don’t want to strangle the author gently” point, but this one is an exception. Nice job.
Good for a first level.
The eyecandy is pretty good, but the fact that the bases are so close to eachother kind of defeats the rest of the level. If you can get it flowing properly, you might have a very good level here. Keep working. :)
Thanks everyone for your good ratings. :-D
To Taz: Taz, you got your room. I’ll reupload as soon as possible. And do you want one too, Snowball?
To Ninja: I’ve already made your room, but I can’t access J2o with my computer so I’ll have to use someone else’s. I dunno why I can’t but it’s very annoying… :-(
EDIT: Ok, everyone: Your rooms are ready. Now go download the hotel and add +1 points to your rating! :D[This review has been edited by White Rabbit]

i like the RollerCoaster the best
Download Recommedation
A nice hotel, it has different things to play, it has a lot of rooms, but it’s neat build, the eyecandy could have been done better, and the casino could have been explained better.
It’s wroth to host, download recommed.
Yo, I am first in Here :D.
Nice Hotel with everything it. I dunno What i shall write more Rofl
Have a good day :B
Very nice job, WR. Go on with such levels!
I think you must download this. Why? I’ll tell you.
It’s a amazing nice level with the Holy Heaven tileset by Agama. (uhuh.) There’s very good weapon placement, only too much Powerups. The gameplay is very good. There are much springs, so you can even play it with Lori. (But who does that?) There are no dead ends, and you can warp in the mouth of the lazy turtle. Is that enough? Let’s download then.
This is indeed a very nice battle level using the fantastic “Heaven” set by Agama.
It has very interesting eyecandy, with some nice ideas, but there are some glitches. The gameplay is very good, no dead ends. At the dead ends there are warps that lead you to a random place, an idea I also use frequently in my levels and it works good. The weapon placement is okay, but it’s not very fair because it’s easier to uppercut (Jazz) the powerups than to sidekick (Spaz) them, so I don’t think this is a level to use in duels.
Overall: This rocks. Download.
W00t what do i need to say more nothing
very nice level only maybe a bit too much Eyecandy
the gameplay is medium i dont realy like it but it still is a Goood Level
LOL WR! Did you pay’d them to rate so high!? :D Just J/K.
Well its a very nice level, it uses the Heaven Tileset by Agama. It makes good use of it, using the vines and poles and the other decorations etc. The eyecandy is very good, the textured background plus the layer 6/7 is a great combination in this level. Gameplay is smooth, springs are well placed (You still should had to put that spring on that place wich I told you so.), further no obstakels or bugs. Ammo placement is uhm…well, I think its oke because I cant make it better ;) But Like Elrick said youve overused the ammo a bit, also youve put too much mixes of ammo together. There are also quite much PU’s for such a small level but nevermind. Ow yeah did I mention the ReadMe? WOW I AM IN IT:P( You bàstard, why did you put that text after my name! =P ) Well its a fairly medium nice level together. A 8.2 from me and a Download Recommendation. Well done![This review has been edited by Super Saiyan]
i’ll have to review this lvl to get WR to give me rest and peace. Knocking him out with a baseball bat didn’t work :D ok, let’s see: the eyecandy is pretty great here (except for a tiny bug, but you can only see it if you know what you’re looking for, so i’ll shut up :D). The weapon placement is quite ok, and there are enough powerups and carrots for some serious battle game.
Good job, WR! (and please, don’t eat me while typing a review again. it’s very unsettling :D)[This review has been edited by Enigma]
To Violet: Huh? What bug? Weird…
It shouldn’t be like that, Violet. Try downloading it from someone else or maybe you should ask someone to host the lvl and then open it up to see if it works.
To Saiyan: Will you raise yer rating if I put that spring where you asked me to?
To everyone else: Thank you…[This review has been edited by White Rabbit]
have a nice day/night
