White Rabbit, your an awesome who makes awesome levels.

So many things like a huge swimming pool and roomy chatroom make this hotel one of the best ever.

Creativity was impossible not to see!

An icecream factory, rollercoasters, battle stores, and cool looking rooms…

It was everywhere!

You have inspired me to make a hotel of my own.

Here it is!

Blah blah blah…
The Review:

TEMPLE OF KARNAK:

EYECANDY:
The backround layers may not seem so appealing. Layer 8 has been covered up and layers 7 and 6 consist only of bricks. Layer 5 is a bit more interesting. You may find some flames and some light rays. However, the backround layers sort of make the sprite look good. This may be because layers 7,6,5,3 and 2 all move with layer 4. The best bit about the eyecandy is there are different zones around the level. You may end up in a room of lava or a blue room. The bad news is that the lava obscures your view, which can make you fall into the pit (I guess thats the fun really), but thats the only real problem.

Overall, the eyecandy looks really good. But the lava obscures your view.
EYECANDY RATING: 9.2

GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay was very interesting. There were loads of platforms and vines, so that you could jump everywhere. But aside from the vines and everything, this level includes some concepts that not many other battle arenas use, such as trigger zones and pits (which may become more popular later on). One of the pits is even hidden. The level also has dead ends and areas where the player could get trapped or some kind of tactic could be used using the warps. But, there is one place where if you try really hard, you could get stuck (pos 7,51)

Overall, the level is very platformy. However, uses some origional concepts such as triggers. But there is a bug at pos 7,51.
GAMEPLAY RATING: 9.0

ITEMS:
The item placement here is mixed. It’d be OK if there were a small amount of players, but there isn’t enough ammo for more than 6. Thats bad because there is enough of everything else for 6 players. The ammo placement is slightly origional. Instead of being in clusters, 80% ammo is placed on platforms. All of the ammo is placed in groups of less than 3. Another mixed thing is that in some places, there is no ammo at all. This could provide a good game strategy, but can also make the level feel empty.

Overall, not enough ammo and ammo placement a bit dodgy.
ITEM RATING: 6.0

FINAL RATING: 8.1
RANK: 8 Very Good
DOWNLOAD: Despite the item placement, this is a really good level and should be downloaded (but get carrotade first).

Introduction:
White Rabbit has done a nice job, making a kind of Egypt looking temple with a not so easy tile set.
Here goes the review…

Eye candy:
Getting out the maximum what u can do with the tile set.

*Layer 1: N/A
*Layer 2: Ok
The Lava looks not so good but its not your fault that the 2×4 blocks don’t fit.
*Layer 3: Nice
Layer 3 was nice, it covers some tiles, there was some nice translucent light and a Lava fall.
*Layer 4: Middling
This layer is pretty normal is has some eye candy but not much, i didn’t like the water.
*Layer 5: Very Well
You used this layer very well!, it makes the pillars looking good, there are some torches added, a fence, some falling sand and other fixes.
Some tip about the water; make it translucent, use it in layer 3 and cover it in layer 2, that will help ;)
*Layer 6: Great!
*Layer 7: Very Good!
Both layer 6 & 7 are making a great difference in the background.
*Layer 8: Well Done
In combination with the other layers its looking good.
*Animating Tiles: Medium
You did use some, but you could use some more, like moving zombies, worms, and some others.

Summarized:
There are a lot good things to say about the eye candy in the layers, there are some improvements but u can see that White Rabbit is skilful in using layers.

!http://bp2.blogger.com/_cI1gdj2JQao/SBmt6jmdmeI/AAAAAAAAAJs/Fzy-jGCCUw4/s200/Jazz+Layout+(s).jpg! Layout:
Greatly affects the game play

*Level Size: O.k.
The level is 150 by 100 tiles what good enough for this battle lvl.
*Masking: Super!
I almost don’t have to say anything of this, only that Spaz could be stuck in the small tunnels.
*Masked looking of the level: Good
I see some platforms, some pillars and tunnels. There is quite variation.

Summarized:

Although every layout is unique, I didn’t have some good or bad things to say on these…

Game play:
The most important thing of all

*Easy to navigate: Can be better
This is something that u might be improve; above in the level there are a few dead ends, but there are goodies to, the warps are confusing in the beginning and a bit vague (a warp tomb?), The pillars might be nice but they are a bit frustrating to because sometimes u can’t see where u jumping on. I recommend that u remove that lava river since u almost cant see where u can get out of it, the hidden tunnel makes it even more difficult. Walking back in the tunnel right under may be not so easy or you must know the hidden sugar tube.
Maybe there are some others that i forgot…
*Jazz-Spaz-Lori Balanced: Medium
I noticed that W.R. did make a pillar more Jazz/Lori friendly, but in my eyes Spaz still has a better chance to getting through that pillars.
*Easy movement: Average
There are some improvements here to; some pillars and vines are very small, this is good for single player games but in battles you must move easily. Another one is the lava fall but I did talk about that already ;) At last something important about the V-poles; if u on it, it will greatly slow u down and you’re an easy quick bite for a other player :O And if ur hit, you will go down again :P making yourself again a target for the others… My tip; Remove the poles and replace them for a blue spring ;)
*Correctly Working of events: Correct
No Problemo 
*Prevent getting stuck: O.K.
Only in the small tunnels Spaz can be stuck. When I did play the game, I got stuck by the small pillars (left above) when I was shooted by an other player, I don’t now why…
*Finding & getting (hidden) goodies: Good
Both Carrots and Upgrades are good balanced in getting them, an exception is the seeker PU
That is easy to find but pretty hard to get. (Shooting at full speed on the wall with upped bouncers.)

Summarized:

I did try to give some comments on this part, what u do with this is on you ;)

Placement of Events:
A widespread element of the Game play

*Power ups: Right
They are spreaded pretty well (not in the tunnels but that’s not such problem :D), I did’t see any strategy though…
*Weapons: Poor
All weapons are just mixed spreaded somewhere and aren’t balanced in the level.
*Carrots: O.K.
3 Carrots, they are spreaded good, ill guess some are more popular to get than others ;)
*Springs: Middling
Some places can use some more.
*Starting Positions: N/A
Lucky that there is a warp by the only starting point there is, but its still a chaos if u start with 10 people by that V-Poles :P

Summarized:

Some extra time in this could make it even better…

Originality:
What kind of extra’s has your game what other games don’t or rarely have?

*Special Effects: Very Good!
I did see good working lightning and flicker light, and a simple but effective trigger zone by the sugar tube. That brings me on the idea to use that to! Tnx for that :D
*A overused tile set?: Sure Not!
I never saw a battle game used this set, maybe because its leaking on some events, or because its to hard to use it for much JCSers…
*Events matching the theme: N/A
*Nice fitting music: Excellent!
Yes! this music fits perfect by the theme! Its not a real killing battle music but that’s not a problem :)

Summarized:

Good Job, how more must I say?

Conclusion:

Interesting; Some very good things, Normal things and things that can be inproved…
2.6 of 3 for Eye candy
0.8 of 1 for Layout
1.1 of 2 for Game play
1.2 of 2 for Weapon placement
1.4 of 2 for Orginality
I give it a 7.1!(rounded up 7.2)

Eyecandy

What could be said about the ec in this level, if it looks just like one of THE classic SP episodes on J2O. It’s normal use of the KejeroEgypt tileset, which may not be too shocking today as it once was, but it’s good enough nonetheless
One of larger errors here, though, is that there’s a lot scarab symbols. You may ask whats wrong with it, well nothing too much if they’re placed further away. But here you see the scarabs everywhere D=. Also the use of the water block events is a little questionable, because imo it should be used when the water tiles are in front of the player, not in the back, because it looks odd.

Gameplay

The layout here is a bit different from all battle levels, there are a few dead ends with powerups and +1 carrots. The level is platformy, but the eyecandy helps covering it up a lot. Also a lot of platforms means more freestyled gameplay, without fixed routes (hence why lvls like BBLair and DW are so strategical). The level also contains (only) two pits, one of them in the lava room, and one hidden on the right, in the area taken from the last Tomb Rabbit level – the one with the crate puzzle, the first mummy encounter and the pit with bees.

I don’t like the ammo placement here though. It’s just scattered chaotically across the level, there’s a lot of ammo basically everywhere, and it comes in mixed groups which makes the ammo placement hard to remember overall.

Summary
  • Original idea
  • Interesting gameplay
  • Classic eyecandy
  • Chaotical ammo placement
  • The scarabs are overdone D=

Overall
This is a very original and interesting level, which should be used in some dedicated server loop, not to mention the soon coming ab10. I give this an 8 mainly for the sheer originality. Aside from a few bugs it’s a good level and fully deserves the rating.

At first look i coudn’t distinguish background between walls, but it is playable and after a little playing, it is clean. Ammo is scattered by small groups 1-3 each, but for good player that is not a problem.

This is a exceptionally good remake. I first thought it was missing something, when I soon found out that it had it all, just scattered and hidden. The level varies a lot from the original, but not too much for it not to be a remake. Good job.

Bleh, I said I would rate this, But I cant since I dont have inspiration to motivate my rating. I think the level is ok, though, not very funny to play IMO.
I think I liked that windevent most. It is useful like a turret but you can escape from it. I think that was the only area of the level I liked, meaybe with the exception of the bases, which are campable, but not to easy to camp at =P.

Overall I just think it is a bit unoriginal. Sorry WR.

But since I am a suck reviewer I recommend you to d and see for yourself ;)

EDIT:
Well, I changed my mind. I like the level, and whilst 2v2ing there I found there are a lot of tactical aspects I do like, not to mention the way WR doesn’t overdo eyecandy (which is overrated by so many).

The team that has their base to the left has an advantage in a 2v2, I noticed… When you don’t have flag as that team you can just get the RF PU all the time and do kamikaze killing at your opponent (for example FireSworD ;p) who is RTS at the right base :) I consider this as a possible unfairness, considering the other team can’t do the same with bouncers due to base being placed on top of the level.

I also like the way water allows you to camp the carrot with blaster only, or shoot the carrot down into the water for easy laming (however this didnt work in the 2on2 I played, due to carrot desynch :( )

I enjoy the basearea, since the ground is sort of… not entirely flat. this allows you to easily hide from RFs and other straightgoing weapons.

What could possibly be improved:
(+) Make it so the PUs are placed more equal… perhaps 2 PUs of each sort in the level? (much ammo is always good:))

(+) I noticed that in an intense game you don’t have time to fetch the gun4 PU during game, maybe it could be done easier or so? This isn’t necessary, however, since it adds sort of a tactical aspect… “Should I try to take the PU and risk getting late to scoreing /getting ready?”

Perhaps I was just too content with that one game (beating good players is sort of satisfying)… Ill still give it an 8.4… o, I can’t… It’s your lucky day WR, you got an 8.5 instead =)

Lets get started! Reviewing… Santranigus V.

Eyecandy:
Very nice, I really like it. A lot of use of food to. There are no more tilebugs I think, although I don’t like some parts of the leaves that are placed.

Gameplay: Very good! The flow is nice. You can get fast to the other base, but the spider web wind is really nice! I think that is quite original. Haven’t seen it before.

Weapons: Good, although I don’t like the same PU. For the same team is ok, but maybe you coulda use a other pu. This is fine, as there is enough for everyone in this level. A little bit empty on some places though.

Bugs: Nope.

Comment overall level: Good! I hope you continue making more. Right size. I really like the text things! Water warps are fun :)

I can’t believe it I found a jaguar in a level that’s author said there’s NO JAGUARS. Liar!

Eye Candy 8.7
Thank you for not respecting Mike’s opinion of having crap eyecandy in a good gameplay level. And I see you lied about the absence of jaguars. I found four jaguars in this level. For the rest, you see nothing original. The eyecandy’s exactly like in any other of your average Swamps levels. And because I found no tilebugs, I will proceed to the next section.

Gameplay 8.4
The fastest way to get the flag is through the hole in the tree. Jumping over the tree isn’t smart, because there’s wind at the top for an unknown reason I don’t know of. It slows down and is sometimes annoying. Now, unlike the author said, the level isn’t symmetrical. He said it’s not 100% symmetrical. But it isn’t 75% symmetrical either. It’s less than that. There’s also water in the bottom.

Placement of Stuff 7.1
You said in the author’s description there’s no drinkable liquids. Now that’s a lie. There’s a lot of them. And also a lot of other kinds of food. Thanks for not overusing them (although sometimes I get this weird feeling “NOT ANOTHER SUGAR RUSH”). There’s the powerups. RF on the right side and bouncers on the left side. I dislike this. RFs are better than bouncers in many ways. There’s the seek powerup in the middle, that’s having a bit different placement. You take one of the warps in the water (YES! Either side! Doesn’t matter which!) and then you QUICKLY shoot right! The Power is Yours. About the rest of the loose ammo, they’re placed in a good way. There’s a Full Health Carrot at the top of the watery place (Find a jaguar below it!).

Miscellaneous Stuff
I noticed that you lied in the author’s desctiption, in the readme, and even in the level about one thing. You said there are no jaguars, owls or drinkable liquids. Well, I found four jaguars, two owls and three different drinkable liquids, and there’s a lot of them on the loose. April fool’s over already!

Overall 7.9 (not an average!)
This is the conclusion text for another CTF level, this time using the swamps tileset. Thumb-up (download recommendation) for you and I’m gone!

EDITEDITEDITEDIT:
No, I didn’t lower the rating because of you lying. That would be stupid.

The last time I reviewed, Surinam was not independent yet. Better said, a long time ago.

Santranigus V

This level was made by White Rabbit. Using EvilMike’s level guide, he made a level and uploaded it. I have seen this level in his server and I tested it a bit. Now let’s start with the review, okay?

EvilMike’s opinion is that eye candy isn’t too important to make a good level. I personally don’t like that fact, because I like eye candy alot. Now let’s see how the eye candy is in this level.

For this level, the Swamps Day tileset is used. This tileset offers you alot of eye candy, but in this level the eye candy is not the main part. The eye candy in this level is good enough, and I have no real complaints. The tileset and layer use is good as well. Almost every layer is used and alot of different tiles are used. I don’t know what to tell about the eye candy, so I’ll go on with the next part. The only flaw is probably that I think there isn’t enough, but it does its job.
Rating : 2.4 out of 3.0.

The gameplay is the part where’s focused most on. This level’s layout looks good. The level is not completely symmetrical. There are some good routes, and some ideas are used as well. For instance, the spider web wind turret at the top-middle. The spring placement is good, and there are no real dead ends in the level. The bottom has 2 warps you need to get something I mention later in this review. The flow in this level is good, which is needed. There aren’t alot of obstacles between the bases, but the wind turret is an example of an obstacle because it slows you down. The bottom area of the level is water ; like the warps at the bottom-left and right. Some one ways are placed here and there, and I don’t think the level is too cramped in some places. I think the gameplay here is a strong part of the level.
Rating : 3.3 out of 4.0.

Now let’s go to the placement.

When I saw this level the last time before it was uploaded, it had no food. Now it has alot of food. It’s not really overused, so it’s the first good part. Second part is that the ammo placement is good, and it’s good spread. The level has 3 main power-ups, and 1 gun9 PU at each side. The main PU is the Seek PU, which is hard to get if you don’t have a bad timing. You have to use the warp at the bottom-left and right and you have to shoot gun9 fast. The minor PUs are the Bouncy and RF PUs that you can find above the water, then at the left and right sides. The full energy carrot is at 61,65, and it’s just above the water. It’s possible to shoot it down. The +1 carrots are above the gun9 PUs. Some ammo is on the ground, other ammo is in the air/in the water. There are also some crates but they aren’t a real problem. The flaws are probably that the PU choices are unoriginal and that some people have trouble with getting the Seek PU. That’s no problem in my opinion, though.
Rating : 2.3 out of 3.0.

Others : this concludes a good new level by White Rabbit. I was trying to use a new system so you can blame me if this new system sucks. This level prevents alot of camping, but it’s still possible. I will now give you my final rating.

2.4 + 3.4 + 2.2 = 8.0 out of 10.0.

Host : sometimes. This level is something new you might want to try once. It’s probably a good level for 2v2.
Download : Yes.
I edited the review to mention what can be improved, but that’s one of the worst part for my reviews.
EDIT : I added 0.1. Just because.
EDIT2 : an 8.1 looked too high, now it’s 8.0 again.

I had to review this for WR, but this won’t be a long review.
Blood Lust is a Battle level using the Death Metal tileset that’s released in 2002 or so, but it’s updated since some time. WR hosted this and asked me to review, and I said I will do it. He’s waited for the review, but it’s coming, so behold!

It’s easy to run through this level. The spring placement is good and the level is not too open. There are some vines and hooks here and there that will help the gameplay/flow. The layout of the level is also good. Overall the gameplay is very nice.

The eye candy in the level is probably how far you can get with this tileset. The tileset is used very good, so it uses about every useful eye candy tile in the tileset. Great job. Every layer is used, but layer 2 only contains a small thing.

The placement in the level is nice. Alot of groups of ammo are used, some ordinary ones, but also the odd ones that are used alot. There are 4 Power-Ups(!) in the level. You get the Seek PU with buttstomp/gun9/Jazz’s special attack. You get the Toast PU with Gun9 too; same for the RF PU. The last PU is a Bounce PU, you get that with Gun9 too. =P. There are 3 carrots in the level.

The level is pretty original. I like the music and some text strings in the level. The level has some original ideas, like the Seek PU placement. You get ever PU with Gun9, that was an original idea since 2002.

Ratings:
Gameplay: 8.2
Eye candy: 8.2

32.7 : 4 = 8.175 = 8.2. This is a vewy nice level. I didn’t like it when I played it in his server, because I died many times. After seeing the level, this is a nice level. You should download this level immediately, even if it’s an old level. The level can be hosted multiple times.

But anyway, nice level, probably another one of the good battle levels that you don’t see much around. I also like the placement of the powerups. And the way you’ve used the tileset is well done, too. Seems to fit well with the dark, quite atmosphere.

I don’t know about the choice of the music because I really can’t hear it because my soundcard is still dead.=P

But anyway, good job. To me, this deserves a 8.2. It’s still a good level.=)
