This was a really good song. I’ve had it on repeat in my playlist since I downloaded it sometime yesterday until six minutes ago.

As it’s been said there are no new parts added, but I really don’t mind. Imo, it sounds great without any extra patterns.
There are some parts (like the beginning) which feel a bit slow or bland, but not enough for me to downgrade it much.

LRK did a great job on this one, so you should download it and listen to it, if you haven’t already.

I guess I’ll review this since LRK asked me.

Firstly, I also really like this song. Two good remixes released so near each other (This and Elektronique army by Danyjel).

Although other than diff. samples no new patterns seem to be added in the song (I didnt check thoroughly so correct me if Im wrong) but LRK did manage to make the song sound great (at least imo) and this even inspired me to make a JCS level ;p. He did a great job combining medivo and labrat.

There’s no real specific parts for the song which stand out that much to me; all of the song (except maybe the beginning, which isnt too great) sounds good.

I’d reccomend downloading this song, since it’s a worthwhile listen. Great work on this one LRK.

Nicely mixed.

Great remix.
It combines aspects from Medivo and Labrat in a quite interesting manner, and it even sounds good for the most part. Well-pulled of and original.
The only drawback I believe is that the song stays the same too much, something like adding those monk-like voices sing somewhere in the middle of the song like in the beginning of the original Medivo would be nice, and also, the bagpipe-y part in this remix sounds a bit too flat to have any great impact.
Overall, the only problem is a lack of dynamic and flatness of the volume… the basis is quite original and solid, though, and would do great if used in a level.

This mix works suprisingly well. It doesn’t sound distinctly like either Labrat or Medievo (although you can tell which parts came from what in the song), it has its own new feel that is much more electronic. It’s an interesting listen that is sure to add a sense of action to any level. Great job, Lark.

My only complaint is that these sorts of things aren’t that hard to make since you don’t make up your own parts, so I’ll lower the score to an 8.5 from a 9, which is still quite high. Download this sirs.

(Reported unsupported rating (7.7) removal. Ok, you feel Japanese Food. How does that mean anything? Is that good? Is that bad? Does it help you arrive at your rating? If not, were there any other factors involved? ~Violet)

Ok, just to get one thing out of the way: Alexander Brandon did the music for JJ2, Robert Allen did the music for JJ1. Somehow people always assume Alex did the music for both games, which is bogus (Alex hadn’t even been hired by Epic in 1994, I think he was still school then)

Hey, just because I “helped” doesn’t mean I can’t review, I only gave suggestions :p

Main Melody

Completely borrowed from the original JJ1 Diamondus song, right down to the last note. Nothing to complain about, it’s his first remix, it’s safe to stick to the original melody. The beat in the background is completely the same, even tho it’s not that noticable unless you listen closely.

Instuments

If there’s one way to describe them, it’s loud. Ok, the one for the main melody is loud, a loud synthesized (aren’t they all? :p) sound. The beat in the background consists of mellow drums and hand claps (hey, I’m not familiar with instruments, bare with me here :P), and in my opinion they sound great, but with a little more experimenting he could have found some better ones :)

Miscellaneous

There are a couple of thing I’d like to note. First, it’s the tempo: compared to the original, this remix is slightly faster (like comparing Pezrox with Ceramicus). Also, the last part of the original has been cut (the amplified beat). The result is a shorter, slightly more active song, fitting for JJ1 Diamondus.

Verdict

Not bad for a first try, not bad at all, it’s worth a listen. He shows some promise. I just wish people would try less conventional JJ1 songs more often, but that’s just me ^^

I’m the first reviewer of this level. Yeah!!!

Now for the review…

Monster Bash Conversion:

Monster Bash is an excellent tileset. The eyecandy isn’t good but, it is good for a
DOS tileset conversion. I think it is very good. I think everyone should download it. The eyecandy is things like skulls, gravestones, skeletons, ladders, treasure chests and skull flags etc.I won’t rate the example level but, it is anexcellent example level. My conclusion is this is a very good tileset. Keep up the good work LRK!

Download Recommendation: Yes!

Overall Rating for the Tileset: 8.0

A very good and accurate tileset from Duke Nukem 2. I am going to have to bug you on telling you to do more of DN2. This is absoluty good!

Too bad JJ2 does not use ladder features, otherwise, that would be cool with this tileset.

in the registered version, there is a brig level in each episode. most of them have other features. the shareware episode level is the only level to use the jail background.

A very good download to make a level out of.

I noticed some of the tiles are not in there, such as the inside of the cavwe houses. You did do two seperate tileset for the inside of the cave, and the outside. Plus, when I played commander keen 4, i found a green slime pool in the 2nd pyrimid.

Appart from that, everything is OK.

Anyway, this font does in fact look a lot like the b&w lettering in JJ2. The only complain that I have is that it has a few holes here and there. Still, it’s fairly legible, and fun to use, though if my opinion deters you, read somebody else’s.

Edit: Since a lot of characters are missing, I’m bringing the rating down to 8.2

Comment time!

Good level, hampered by the fact that it’s rather Spaz-biased. This isn’t really a bad thing unless you happen to be one of the six or so people who are die-hard Jazz users.

The rain is nice, the music is appropriate (and a darn good choice in general), and I like the layout better than in most of your recent levels.

Download this, because Beach needs some love.

My first level, which was in about year 2001, was worse than this. Exept less tileset errors because I used the easiest Jazz 2 tilest we could make one out of: Tube. :D This level is pretty good for a first timer. My layout was much worse and all that.

Hahah Jamo, you shouldn’t rate the music and the name of the lvl.. it’s not really fair.

LRK: Nope, check in JCS. The RF power-ups (both of them) have 20 seconds respawn time. Just re-upload the lvl, and I may even raise my rating (don’t forget to fix all of those other stuff I mentioned :-)). Maybe you think the RFs have a one second respawn time because you tested the lvl in single player mode. All regenerating things will generate INSTANTLY if you go more than 20 tiles away and since the warps are such a long distance from each other, the RFs instantly respawn when you reach the warp target of the bonus room warp.

I think that Myriadus is a good medium-sized CTF lvl that could’ve been much better if some gameplay issues and eyecandy issues was were fixed.

The gameplay at the moment is really great and you can easily move in the lvl and not have any jumping difficulties/obstacles, etc. There are 4 nasty dead ends. One at blue base, 1 at (85, 128), 1 at (157, 122) and 1 at (70, 113). Apart from that, the gameplay is excellent and as good as it can be. You even have float-ups that give you that extra push so you don’t have to jump over obstacles. :-)

The eyecandy is pretty boring, honestly, and the only original thing about it is foreground rain AND background, which I think would’ve been much better if it was only in the background (it doesn’t rain indoors, LRK ;-)). The lvl uses most of the Beach tileset’s tiles but there are many tiles, most notable S.S. Epic, the background tiles (ships and rocks) and of course the good old life-belt. USE ALL OF THE TILESET’S TILES OR YOU ARE WASTING GOOD EYECANDY OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL AS RATINGS!

The weapons placement is just as good as the gameplay. Everything is available on the ground so you have almost no jumping to do (although TNT is quite useless, even in CTF). The bonus warp is very useful because the powered up RF is lethal in this lvl. The RF power-up respawns in 1 second, so if somebody enters the bonus warp immediately afterwards, the later player will still get his RF power-up

Myriadus could’ve been much better without all those dead ends and boring eyecandy, but it’s still a good lvl. I’ll give it a 7.7 and a download recommendation, but maybe not if you’d rather play battle or desperately need circular, none-dead-end gameplay.

EDIT: You’ve fixed two bugs in Myriadus v2, LRK, so I can hardly call that a major change. The dead-ends are still there, just as annoying as before (but if Myriadus becomes the CTF version battle1 ppl will get used to the dead-ends and simply avoid them). I would like to raise my rating because of the bug-fixes, but the raised rating would not be 8 or above so my rating, unfortunately, stays the same. It would’ve been an 8 if not even higher if there had been a real major change such as more eyecandy and no dead-ends. Just pretend that you have a 7.9 from me, LRK. :-P
