This is just an intro sequence. It requires some levels.

[Rating (1.0) clearance. I admit that Gus didn\‘t make it too clear, but this is supposed to be the intro sequence for \Tomb Rabbit\. – Cooba]

I was searching for good new tilesets and have found this one. It’s rank 5 in the tileset category, so it Has to be good… I thought. But as I opened it in JCS, it shocked me. This fastly-Painted small tileset is rated even better than Disguise’s tilesets. It doesn’t deserve to.
So, here’s my review:

Theme:
It’s supposed to be a factory-theme, but I can’t really recognize it.
0/1

Main tiles:
Well, there are all necessary ground tiles. They’re untextured and look boring. Furthermore, vines, poles and suckertubes are missing.
0.5/3

Eyecandy:
There isn’t any eyecandy besides the well done animations.
0/2

Background:
Nothing special. Just a textured bg and some ugly buildings for Layers 6&7
0.5/2

Animations:
I think the animations are well done in this tileset. There are also switches, which are missing in many other tilesets.
1/1

0+0.5+0+0.5+1=2 +1 because “1” is the lowest Rating on J2O
Final Rating:* 3 *

Try to use some textures, more tiles and find a better theme for your next tileset!

the best of all 5 episodes. maybe keeping it shorter was the way to make it fun, but there were many original ideas also! i liked the frog-based levels (i like froggy:p) the levels were enjoyable and easier than the previous ones and that made it fun.
the tileset was improved a lot since the first episode so it made the levels look much better.
the end boss level was also good. Trying to turn off the four buttons. But a familiar end boss would be more surprising (like the whole big enemy was one of our end bosses.) so we could fight with him face to face after this end boss level.
Anyway, the final episode was the best one. takes a 7.6—7.7 from me!

by the way, thanks for writing my name in the credits! i did nothing but to review :)

Well at last the wolfs and bears are lke real enemies!:D
After Iran, Greece was much more better! Levels were better has funnier like the boss level. This pack needs excitement like this. Otherwise it becomes monotone.
Levels were more possible to beat. Not much endless pits like the previous one, but still there were a few annoying ones.
As i’ve said before, the wolfs and bears were improved, and seem like real enemies.
The goodies and baddies were well placed except there were too much enemies together in some places.
Consequently it was a standart Campaign Mysteries pack. I still couldn’t have the same fun with the first pack. Maybe it’s just because it’s the same. But it was very very good when you compare with Iran levels.
I guess there’s one episode left. Put new original ideas and make it exciting!
By the way thank you very much for the carrots! :D:D

The third episode of the series were not as good as i’ve expected. I couldn’t enjoy like i did in the first two episodes. cause there were always endless pits, bloody spikes that sucks you…
No 1ups and not enough carrots to balance the difficulty, it’s nearly impossible to beat.

Also there weren’t new ideas except the explosions while chasing Mick Natla. Also the animated rocks in the temples were original.

The pack has has 5 episodes and it’s hard to keep the story interesting.
So there are two more episodes, and the author would make these episodes much more different than the first three. cause the pack started to repeat itself.
So, it’s my rating:
Gameplay- +0.9
Idea- +1.7
Tileset- +0.9
Music- +1.3
Bugs- +1.6
Rating- =6.4> 6.5

It seems that Gus has decided to make a tileset conversion instead of an original tileset like he usally makes.

Holdiday Hare Cloudy is an edit of the Holdiday Hare tileset (obviously :p), but the whole set is just a palette edit with a few extra tiles. (This reminds me of someone :p). There are now rain, snow and lightning tiles, some more background stuff, and some of the “Gus Tiles”, like the famous Gus logo, custom food and little cartoon people. To be honest, all most all of these additions don’t this set any more usable, except the storm tiles and the extra background tiles.
The palette edit was pretty lazy. It’s a paler version of the day palette, with a grey textured background, and paler sprite colours. Not much effort had gone into fixing any of the bugs in this tileset, such as tiling bugs and masking. I’d also like to see more angles for the caves, they only have horizontal borders avalible. There’s loads Gus could of done to make this a truly awesome conversion, but he just ignored it all and just focused the conversion on the EC additions.

This a good try for your first conversion Gus, it is much better than my first conversion. Try and take into mind what I have said here now. Then you could make great conversions.

Download: While I would probably never use this, it’s worth a look at.

I don’t know why but this Campaign Mysteries idea is very exciting for me!
The second episode of the pack is much better than the first one. Tileset was better (not much difference but seems much better)
There’s a huge improvement in the level design. The levels were long and there were good ideas. But sometimes it was too difficult. There were too many endless pits and lava that kill you when you fall into it. They were sometimes really annoying. Also there weren’t enough carrots and 1ups and this makes it nearly impossible to beat.
The bike idea was good but you could make it better. You could make it go always the same direction and support it with the event BeltRight. This could make it more realistic.
There were still the wolves and bears. You should remove them in episode 3. Sometimes they can be really annoying, also doesn’t look good.
Gameplay- +1.6
Idea- +2.0
Tileset- +0.7
Music- +2.0
Bugs- +1.2
Rating- =7.5

Egypt and Iraq levels were similar to each other, you should find some new original ideas for Iran to keep the game alive! Waiting for the third episode!

“Moondance” by Gus is a simple and short tileset on 209 tiles, the set is considered of about one generated texture used all over with only shading as varity as well as a few other effects such as the same texture ‘bubbled’ and pasted unto already exsisting tiles. There is also a sprite drawn green alien that can be animated for a dance though his facing angle and even his face remains in the same lifeless expression.

Try using more than just plain textures and draw more objects for the player to place. Up the quality of the texture by using better colors and create them with varying texturial effects using programs like Adobe Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro rather than just a texture. Also try to take layers into consideration: One would want something to put on more than just layer 4 and 8. Creating transparency around the stars and moon would for example let the editor use both layer 7 and 6 in addition to 8.

I quite liked this episode but there were some annoying bugs.

EYECANDY

I know the tileset was made in MS Paint but I thought it looked pretty good. The backgrounds were not too bad either. I liked the way the player went through the dark areas, I thought that was pretty cool.

7.5 OUT OF 10

GAMEPLAY

The main objective of this episode was to find a hidden artifact in the Egypt Temple. The gameplay was pretty good, but it was annoying typing JJMORPH every 1 or 2 minutes. It would have been better to have a re-generating Morph pickup so that I could change to Jazz, Spaz or Lori. For example, if I come to a point where Spaz is needed for his Side Kick move, a re-genearating Morph would be best here. There were also some puzzles in each of the levels, some of them I couldn’t really understand but I did like the others, including that one where you had to take a note of the position of the Scarabs. I wrote it up in Notepad and I thought this was a nice puzzle.

7.5 OUT OF 10

ENEMIES/OBSTACLES

As I mentioned before, there are puzzles that have to be completed in order to proceed through the rest of each level. I found the custom Wolf enemies quite annoying as I thought they were moving too fast. I like the use of the spikes, very cool. I also liked the way the Ice Blocks melted when shot with the Flamethrower.

8 OUT OF 10

BUGS

There were some really annoying bugs in this episode. I’ll list them here:

1. The 2 Springs at 142,46 and 143,46 in Floor 3 of the first Pyramid didn’t bounce the player high enough.

2. The 2 Springs in the Platinum Sarcophagus (is that how you spell it?) at positions 61,23 & 62,23 on Floor 1 in the second Pyramid did not bounce the player high enough.

3. The second Rock puzzle in this episode did not work too well, I stacked all 6 Rocks on top of each other but when I used Spaz to kick down the blocks I couldn’t get through because the top Rock was too high for Spaz to go under the platform.

6 OUT OF 10

TOTAL

29 OUT OF 40 (7.25) Rounded to 7.2

I just wanted to leave this comment as acknowledgement to Gus for the fine amount of work he put into this. Sure, the graphics may not be anything spectactular and the gameplay is mostly conventional. It seems heavily inspired by Tomb Rabbit however…

Just look at the amount of creativity and work shown by the author. There is even a developed style here. I would watch this guy for future relases, you don’t see many authors around here show this much passion for jcs.
