I somehow missed this fangame in the old days, so thanks for pushing it to the top of the downloads list again!

This fangame is a so called ‘Click Game’ made with the software from ClickTeam. I played it under Windows 8.1 and it works surprisingly well. Only fullscreen doesn’t work which is expected as 8.1 has problems utilizing DirectDraw.

The game starts with a menu screen sharing similarities to that of JJ2. Once starting a game, you see a charming intro movie with Jazz waking up in a cave(?) being surprised of something. It looks nice for a fangame, but doesn’t necessarily make it clear why Jazz sets off to a snowy planet.

The gameplay involves Jazz automatically skiing down off snowy slopes, and you have to move left and right to avoid obstacles, and move up to brake and down to accelerate. All while jumping in the air through ramps and grabbing Gold Coins. The game’s simple to control but I had problems getting used to the very sensitive hit detection and amount of precision that’s required at times. This means it’s easy to move over ramps and coins, but also that it’s a tad too easy getting hit by rocks and especially trees.

After 3 levels comes a fun bonus level involving a big jump, followed by another fun cutscene. The final level doesn’t have anything to do with skiing, but instead takes on a traditional platformer where you having to walk, jump, duck, and roll through what appears to be Devan’s base. It’s fun to see how all obstacles here make Jazz die in a different way. Yes, it made me want to try getting hit by fire just to see the different yet simple animation.

The only problem I had in this level was again the sloppy hit detection, which is more a problem of ClickTeam’s standard Platform Movement engine rather than Et’s. But once getting used to that it’s actually a pretty solid level to explore with a good tileset and fun obstacles.

The game ends with another cutscene which makes clear what the intro didn’t. Jazz lost his gun and chased down Devan to get it back, who apparently stole it in his sleep! Next comes a screen that let’s you unlock bonuses with the coins you collected. You can buy the ending movie or one of the levels which is kind of unnecessary. But 300 coins gives you a bonus level, and I had 215 coins so that means back to start..

In my next run of the game I kept hitting obstacles on purpose whenever I missed some coins. Getting 300 required a near perfect play, but I managed to do it and finished the festive bonus level!

I recommend this game as it’s probably the best Jazz fangame made that’s actually finished. The graphics are pretty rough and sometimes out of proportion, but also very charming and nostalgic. It’s too bad Et doesn’t have the source anymore, otherwise compiling it with newer ClickTeam software would make this an excellent HTML5 or mobile game! I give it a solid 9 for quality and a bit of nostalgia, and recommend it for download even in 2014!

This palette-editing program is very handy for making 256-colour tilesets!
It is very simple to use, and you can even preview what the game sprites will look like in this palette. It comes with a help file too. This program is a useful file for tileset makers.

What a good set. I like the green color and I think you were really good at making everything in this set. The green water, the green pole and the green sky. In conclusion, you made well everything green.

[Inappropiate rating (10) removal. Please explain properly why you like the set. Your liking of one colour and how things were made in one colour does not express well enough why this set is worth a 10. – FQuist]

This should be deleted, as the level link is not working. There are quite a few reviews that don’t explain themselves but still somehow are accepted! I THINK WE NEED TO TALK TO J2O FOR THIS! HELLO?! J2O?

Hi! I represent J2O, but you can call me Violet. Would you like a Donut?
Just because a file no longer can be downloaded does not mean the upload should be deleted. People have spent a lot of time on their reviews here, and people may also just want to read the reviews to find out what other people thought about this game. Especially, you know, ET.
Furthermore, there is a chance that at some point the file may become available for download again. In this case, it’s better to have this page ready and waiting for it, instead of having to make a new upload of the same thing.
On a final note, reviews made before a certain date (sometime around when I was made an admin) are generally left alone. I think the reasoning is that if we remove one, we’d have to remove them all, or look biased. None of the admins really feel like going through each and every upload and deleting every bad review there is.

ET, you did a GREAT job on it.
It looks really nice and in my opinion this tileset is your best tileset you have ever made. This set isn’t Agama’s or Epic’s quality but it is original and big, it is simple to use (I think) and you can do interesting levels with it, You putted some interesting trees (they don’t look really nice), waterblocks, mushrooms, textured background, really good background stuff for layer 7 & 6 -I love it!This one isn’ct so good as Background in Agama’s Egypt but is close to it.
And you even did a slimy destrucktable blocks!!! wow!

Okay I willl give you a 9 – I think that you could do a 1.23 from it because in your tileset is a lot of empty space – and I don’t think that you reallly need this letters tiles.

ET please make more tilesets like this only better! :)

The shortcut for SELECT NONE is the same as NEW FILE so if you press CTRL + N, you automatically start a new file without a prompt.

You can’t open other palette files well.

Very buggy.

Final rating: 5.5

I won’t rate it, since I feel bad giving something that has so much potential a low rating.

That was uncalled for, DX. Bjarni doesn’t understand what it’s for. Bjarni, it’s for creating tilesets and making special colors in them. In the Swamps tileset, green colors turn out to be brown. That’s what it’s for; doing that stuff.[This review has been edited by labratkid]
