What the-
10.0?!
I don’t think so.
This level is good, but not that much. It has some nice eyecandy, tolerable gameplay and good colors.
However, it’s a really tiny level. Not oppressively so, but still pretty small. Music was alright.
Some of the eyecandy was nice, but there was too much going on in the level. I suppose this is a natural property of Tubelectric, but still. Actually, the Layer 4+surrounding layers eyecandy was pretty interesting. Just too much information going on in a small area.
I think Tubelectric in particular has been done almost (if not completely) to death, which deals somewhat unfairly with this level. The level itself is okay, although I can only see 1-on-1 CTF fights in its future. Nice, but certainly not worth a 10!

It’s not fully stand-alone, but other than that, it’s very nice to play around with and helpfull to the active JCSers.

This is an interesting concept (albeit NOT A NEW ONE!), but the levels and ruleset are so severely, blatantly, and hilariously biased towards the seeking team that they could never be used for anything other than a few minutes of non-competitive fun, similar to what you get with the cheat codes.

It irks me that people are giving out high ratings just because it’s a new gamemode*, even when there was obviously hardly any effort at all put into level design, balancing, coming up with coherent rules, or even a decent trigger system.

*Perhaps the worst part, it isn’t! This particular gamemode seems to get reinvented all the time, always with very minor variations from the original Tag-style conception – the levels are long lost, but you can guess what it was like

Ktos: I can only find one on J2O, which Gus made. I remember playing quite a number of them, but unfortunately I seem to have lost most or all of the level files (Captain Cook searches were unproductive). The ones I remember are pretty old, so they would be hard to track down. I guess I don’t really have any “proof.”

Well, I was playing it a bit on Djazz servers too, Ron, and i think that idea for this level is… quite awesome. If there will be a new pool for new gamemode which are going to be put into jj2+, I will vote for Hide and Seek.
What about the level? Red team have to hide, blue is seeking. Different teams have got opened or closed triggers, so blue team cant get into hide positions of red team, but also red team cant get shield and ammo of blue team. Red team can see is there anyone hiding in some position.
That could be better to make it possibile is blue team seeking or hiding. Like in assault maps. Also it needs people at server who knows whats going on, not just running and trying to kill other guys(esspecialy when someone from red team is trying to kill someone from blue team). It’s fun, but i think that it can be played mostly only in a big(or small if someone prefer that) events. Duels are not good idea for this map, but 5v1(5 in red, 1 in blue) can be fun.
Ok, that was about gamemode. What about levels? Not bad, it could be better sometimes(eyecandy is not good enough in my opinion), hiding positions are hard to find as a blue, but when you know level its not a big problem. Ammo placement, well, blue can run somewhere and there is probably always a chance that they will find box with shield and ammo… They have got a bit too much access to it. Red can also kill blue team guy, but with this placement blue team is mostly immortal. Gameplay is good anyway, I very liked it when there was enough people who understood whats going on.
I think that 8 is good for this levels. +0.5 for new gamemode. So i rate it 8.5, download recommendation.

Edit:Er, minmay, tell me the example of older hide and seek level, because i don’t know any.
Edit2:Ok, I just wanted to know…
Well, so if that’s not really a new gamemode I will change my rating to 8.2(+0.2 because I really like this levels).

I think this idea is awesome. I have played this in DJazzy’s server, and it RULEZ. The levels are nice, the idea is good and I think this should be used for a JDC event or as a new gamemode or whatever. I suggest you to download this.

Installation (20%)

Level Packer 2 needs to have a certain program (WinBinder) installed on your computer, which is rather unusual, since most small tools need no installation. However, installing WinBinder is easy and it’s done in one or two minutes.
Level Packer 2 itself can be uncompressed in whatever directory you want.

8/10

Features (50%)

Level Packer 2 does what it promises. You choose the Jazz2 directory, select the levels you want to have in a zip file, click on the “+” button, then on “Pack!” and choose a path and file name. After that, Level Packer creates the archive file and opens the folder where you saved it.
You can also exclude levels, tilesets or music from being packed.
If a tileset or music file is not found, Level Packer asks you whether it should continue and gives you the name(s) of the missing file(s). This is very useful, because with this feature Level Packer prevents you from publishing an incomplete level pack.
A new feature, which was added for version 2.1, is reading the level list and making a zip file with the files in it. This is also very useful especially for level collections that are hosted on a server such as “Anniversary Bash 12 Files”.
When I tried Level Packer 2 the first time, I was really surprised by its speed. It reads level names, tileset names, etc. really fast and also creating a zip file is done in a short time.

I have an idea for the “File not found – Do you want to contine?” dialog, that shows up when a needed file is missing: You (DJazz) could add a button “Search J2O” that opens a web browser to search J2O for the corresponding file. (The URL is http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/search.php?inputClass%5BsearchTerms%5D=FILENAME )
But this is just an idea. It is not necessary and since i would not really need it, it does not influent the rating.

All in all Level Packer has all necessary features that make level packing easy and fast.

10/10

Usability (30%)

This tool is really user-friendly, especially in comparison with similar tools such as PackPacker or Level Packer 1. It is the first graphical tool for level packing (for Jazz2 of course).
The buttons, input boxes etc. are arranged logically. You could add some labels (for example to the lists and the input box at the top) to make it perfect. But that’s a minor issue and the help text in the about dialog compensates this very well.

9.5/10

Conclusion

Level Packer 2 is useful for level makers and for server admins who want to upload the levels they use for their servers.
In my opinion it’s the best Jazz2 level packing program so far and only a few small issues keep me from giving a 10.

0.2*8+0.5*10+0.3*9.5 = 9.45

When I looked this upload,I was disappointed, but not by the program. I am talking about reviews. I see a few “1.x” reviews that make me really angry. You all take for a reason why you gave the rating 1 the fact that “JJ2+ already has MP3 support and it’s useless now.” I see something bad in it. Isn’t that really bad for a reason to give a rating 1? If I remember good, cooldude’s review for a program by a “good” player saying “i dont see any use in it” with rating 1 was deleted. So why these reviews are not deleted? Maybe because, well,a newbie (no offense) uploaded this? Or because “respected people” wrote the reviews?

Again on the reason: “now we have plus who needs this” isn’t an excuse to rate this 1. Why don’t you go and rate Carrotade and Grytolle’s versions 1? They are useless,we have plus now!

Why not? Because Blur and Grytolle uploaded those?

I don’t really think Blur stole the MP3 idea, but what if he did? Would anyone say “BLUR STOLE IT BLUR STOLE IT”? No. Why? Because Blur is respected community member. And what if Djazz and Sfaizst stole it from Blur?
Everyone would go like “THEY DID IT THEY DID IT” theory.

You now see what I wanted to say. Rating this 1 and getting away with it because a newbie uploaded this, isn’t really nice.

Now on the review:
I like the idea. It has some bugs, but it’s nice. I think I can ignore the bugs and give it 7.6.

Delete this,I don’t care. But it will show this again.

DJazz’s “Lemon Field”. Set self-explanatorily in a small, paradisaic lemon field, complete with a cheery remix of the Diamondus theme. A small battle level reccommended by the author for Instagib and HLRS sub-gamemodes…

Lemon Field has good, yet rather unoriginal eyecandy. There’s a typical Diamondus bay in the background and two rows of trees in the closer layers. There are also waterfalls and leaves in the foreground, which is nice… but can be a bit annoying in a level of that size. If you have the f9 list open, or 2xf9 (list+stats) and a few players, your field of view becomes a bit obstructed. A -0.2 BOOnus for that. Other thing I don’t quite like (but I won’t rate that) is the night version’s palette. It doesn’t feel like a night on a lemon field, but thanks to the red ‘water’ it feels like a gory murder scene on a lemon field. IMO the author should’ve used New Diamondus 2 for that.

Gameplay-wise it isn’t anything brilliant. It’s only 30×15, which makes it almost single-screen, has some bouncers, toasters and seekers, and, obviously lemons. Lemons are what I actually like about this level. If you have enough, you can turn into a sugar-rushing titan and go on a roasting spree, especially in instagib. While I don’t know if that concept was what made DJazz place the lemons in this level, it’s pretty cool. A +0.1 bonus for that.

Concluding, “Lemon Fields” is an average level. It could’ve been a 6.1 from me if not the view-obstructing foreground. You get a 5.9. Keep on making levels and with practice you’ll be much better soon.

I can’t really bring myself to give this a higher rating than I am. It’s a very small level, presumably intended for instagib, but it fails to pay attention to the necessary details in making such a level. It’s too open. Way too open. This means that the gameplay is thoroughly chaotic and luck-based, unless you have, say, a 10ms ping time.

Hey master cheif here. firstly this is my first review :) WOOHOO!!!!
ok now to the reviewing.
This is a new idea. a new concept. lemons!!!! lol! it is very small and brings for close combat. which is fun if you are good at dodging and going fast. I do like the water falls. I dont really like the eye candy because it isnt new stuff. but i spose it works with the foreground well and u dont pay much attention in onmline play coz its fast :) cool random bush on the end of the ledges :)
