I'm working on a level thats built specifically for a 320x200 display. It's like a Campy B-movie, like those old '50s sci-fi flicks. I expect it will get a 5, maybe a 6 when released.

Maybe you should stop making run-on sentences and use commas and periods because if you don't use commas and periods then sentences can be really annoying to read as you can see in this sentence which also doesn't use any commas or periods as an example.

Aaanyway, my levels are pretty generic and crappy. =(

I do not want to sound jealous, but why are you all so fond about Cooba's screenshots? As far as I can see they don't show very good-looking eyecandy (it surely looks okay, but it's nothing "special") and to be honest I think n00b's level looks better.

Well, does it need improvement? I think it looks quite awesome. Cooba just used a tileset I never saw before and I like that tileset. I wasn't intending to make you sad... :(

Replayed my level a while ago, and now I expect it to get a lower rating than what I posted earlier. All four screenshots happen so early on, it's shocking.

Feel free to C&C.
EDIT- All of the screenshots are from a month or two ago, I was originally working on the level with a 'bootleg' Kansas tileset. Also the Kansas tileset is not included in the ZIP. Go download it off of J2O if for some reason you don't have it.
EDIT2- And play the level in 320x200, there hasn't been any ambeint lights added, so it doesn't matter what other settings you use.

( In my opinion, overusage automatically decreases the goodness of a tileset... I just like to see new things, I suppose.
Of course, it's not the tileset's fault. So I guess it's more of a deficit in originality of the leveldesign.. oh well. )

The perspective of the stairs isn't really right... the top of the fence in the background should not be right in line with the top of the fence in the foreground.

The first is the Arkansas version and the second the Kansas version in 16 bit!
Possible names are Acid Realm and Lava Pits, but they may be different.

16-bit also gives you the opportunity to make your own fading color. And, Cooba, try a dark textured background in 16-bit with background colors R255 B255 G255. It looks quite neat. I used it in my DSX episode. ;)

New Assault the -Ship- level. Red and Blue are 2 versions, so the teams can both play as the offense/defense :)

What isn't recognizeable? Some walls are just walls that can disappear with trigger crates... lots of those are like that.

You don't have high standards, I just need to spend some more time into this level and the following ones.

And there isn't a storyline this time. You just crashed somewhere in a big forest somewhere on Carottus and you have to find your way out. You stumble across a secret temple complex and there you find a few things out about this place.

These are levels that I already built and uploaded to j2o....
but hardly anybody saw them yet. or downloaded them
or anything in like 6 months... :(
so that does count, right? RIGHT?
I think the levels are quite good, but that's just me :roll:
so check them out if you want. or not. whatever.

that nobody cares about :roll:

EDIT: but anyways, I'm working on a small pack composed of older levels that I haven't finished and ...... well, finishing them, duh. I might post pictures, or not.

I have no screens cuz' I'm not at home today... But PoL is working on an EasterIslands-lvl (Kalle) and an HauntedHouse-lvl (meee'z)... two totally underused tilesets i think :p

Actually, I'm disagreeing with Cooba here. Defosts screenshot > DS's sorry :(.
Because if a level has barely any eyecandy it would be too boring for me to play in, but if a level has too much I would still play in it because there's a lot to look at and keep you busy, but I just wouldn't have serious matches in it.

No offense intended to either of you, I'm sure your levels will turn out good when finished :).

Looks awesome. Nice to see that tileset used.

And Cooba, I have to disagree too, it looks way better than that level by DarkSonic. It doesn't say much about the gameplay though, ofcoruse.

Well, the level is a bit rushed.. it's not completely done yet, although I'm really far with it. The tileset doesn't offer alot of eye candy except some trees and caves, and slopes to use in the foreground. While I look at the screenshot, I find some bugs in them. But it will be fixed as soon as possible. And that Islands level looks good in my opinion.

How about this: both levels have eyecandy that will not appeal to certain groups of people, although some people might be more willing to tolerate that of one level than that of the other, and some other people might even like the eyecandy of one or both of them. For maximum approval, however, it might be wisest to make levels with eyecandy at sufficient but not excessive levels.

Assuming Defost's was made in 2005, which he was indicating by saying that thing about the unreleased levels.

Why would I judge unreleased levels (which I had no idea even existed)?For maximum approval, however, it might be wisest to make levels with eyecandy at sufficient but not excessive levels.My thoughts exactly.

A screenshot may be worth a thousand of words, but a <a href="http://www.freewebs.com/awholelotofjunk/ictribsample.j2l">sample</a> is worth millions of screenshots.

For what it's worth, the actual level will be a JTF (CTF with player classes) featuring a Medic class, which is able to heal teammates. Both Medics and the eyecandy were ideas I've had in my mind since August 2005, and this level finally ties them both in one level. The layout so far is 60% done, it's rather simple and flattish, but open and suitable for more people than it seems in JCS.

Also, Defost, my eyecandy with the Exoticus tileset was not overly generic and it still was (at least in my and several people's opinion) better.

I do sort of dislike the eyecandy in my Exoticus level (okay, so it flat out stinks) but I see nothing special in yours.

And, I'm soon going to upload the overly generic level and watch everyone flame it for its small size.

In my experience, generic levels have poor gameplay. Well, the ones I've played.

It's not bad, but it's severely limited by being Diamondus and thus kind of flat. The level would look a lot better if you could find some way to introduce curves.

You can't change the hud with a custom J2a, and no mass amount of triggers can make a custom health system.

Hud could be one big sprite, and for the health I have no clue! =D
EDIT:
found out a way the health could work, all the letter sprites could be replaced, and a program edits the text memory to display health in that spot, and the asm that makes text move gets nop'd!

If this was some other game like Gish, or JJ1, I'd happily explain it to you, But JJ2?
The Level editor is right in the start menu directory for christsakes! Plus it doesn't even take a brain surgeon to figure out how to lay the tiles in Coherent structures.

Even if it was made in JSD, There is NO way that JJ2 would show the health as numbers. It only uses one heart sprite, and if we could change that, well, we'd have JJ2 mods off the wazoo.

Not only that, but NO airborne enemy in jj2 shoots projectiles.
