I’ve decided to write full review, mostly because I couldn’t match in 350 character lenght rule for quick review(really, if the max lenght was around 600 I could easily match and create much smaller review, but I couldn’t so I wrote a full one. Isn’t it quite stupid when I can’t decide if the review is quick?).

Before I rated this map for 8, but I haven’t tested it really, just run around for few seconds to see how the level is. Still, its not that bad but its a bit annoying. Hard to move around. Actually, it feels like the creator of this didn’t liked players so he made a lot of spots where he can easily fall to sucker tube that brings them back or forcing them to make some jumps in rather strange way, like demanding players to make everything perfect(jumping to RF area is quite annoying). I don’t like lower path, because it sucks, takes much time and can be annoying because of pits and sucker tubes over players.

This level for me feels like its much smaller than it is. Why? Overloaded with some events. You tried to put everything in it, not really good way of creating gameplay. Too many warps, too many sucker tubes of which two are pointless and the only reason they are there is to annoy player. I want more space, I would understand if it was 20×15 level, they are supposed to be crowded. This one though should use more space. Just few minor changes, sometimes even One Way Floor event makes level feel a bit more spacious. This level lacks One Way Floor event. It also lacks space. Seriously. It’s hard to move and sometimes its made on purpose, trying to master this level might be very annoying, tiring and pointless because probably noone would like to play there anyway. Also, springs leading to warps the most to the left/right could use oneways under them.

Ammo placement is fine, I can’t say it’s not, although it would be a little more comfortable to put oneway floor under RF power up. Everything is almost fine, but there is just… too much of everything. Too many seeks mostly, no way you can run out of ammo. There should be more bouncers instead of seeks in my opinion. Also, probably for a level like that you won’t get sugar rush during the game anyway, but it’s good to see all of those cakes around.

Eyecandy is nice, hard to say anything else. Warps next to bases(to which you can get via sucker tube) have got layer 3 bug(hard to notice that while playing, but actually whole eyecandy is only visual problem, and I have noticed this), thats the only bug I have found. Everything else is fine and the level looks nice even on low detail(I mean, nothing what looks like serious tilebugs), though it doesn’t matter that much. I have found annoying only one place where tiles used for regular levels are on layer 3(right and left from RF powerup), at the beggining it was confusing, later I got used to that.

Overall: without much space, annoying, hard to move, overloaded, but its looking good. I just found it hard to move here, and that is the most annoying thing about this level. It’s not a bad level anyway, not that bad to rate it less than 7. The thing I liked the most here was eyecandy, and its worth downloading just to see how it looks(because why not).

That’s all I guess.

To be honest, it looks great in my opinion, I really like the overall look of this, it’s a real remake but it’s looking… Well unfinished? And why is there so much empty space in it? I like how it looks, but if I had to rate this then I wouldn’t give more than 7 because it just looks unifnished. I like how the layer 7, 6 and 5 background looks and I havent tried making level with this set, but I really think that you need to finish this or maybe just add more tiles if its finished in your opinion. It fits perfectly with Jazz 2 animation style, the only thing that is looking… Hm maybe not bad but also not really good is fire. The rest is great but as I said – this set is too small, there is too much empty space in it. Finish it or do something with this set and I’ll rate it for sure.

For some reason I decided to rate this.

That’s quite nice level, but it lacks few things. The first one is definitely ammo. Even though I have got nothing to say about ammo placement because it’s really nice(pretty risky way to get seekers for example, for some reason i liked it), I have to say something about its amount over the level. If there were only two players playing level would became empty after few seconds. It needs a bit more ammo, maybe not seekers, but toasters, RFs and maybe a bit more bouncers. Also, placement of the last one is bad. I had no idea how to get them until I had opened the level in jcs. Passage to it is perfectly invisibile, and the sucker tube thing inside that “bouncer box” is also quite hard to notice. There are no powerups in this level(I think that it would be nice to put one instead of those bouncers, and move them to another place maybe).

Gameplay is nice, though I can’t understand why did you put all of these “bomb sceneries”, probably to make it impossibile to shoot electroblaster through it, but lets say that I don’t get it. In my opinion it would be a nice way to knock somebody down by shooting him with eb, instead of getting knocked down by yourself because you managed to shoot seeker while falling near that bomb scenery(there is a large impact while trying to shoot any destructable scenery by seek, nice thing is that even if you somehow dodge seeker it can still knock you down). Also, as it is said in description, this level is definitely best to host it at lrs mode.

Eyecandy could be better, but the thing I didn’t liked is definitely the background. It’s linear and blank. Maybe adding some background like buildings would make it better? Rest of the level doesn’t look so bad, but also its not something that makes my eyes get excited. It’s just looking normal, but somehow I liked it.

I wonder, why did you enable the “keep x” in the green spring on the right side of the level? Thats pretty useless but it doesn’t really matter. Another thing that makes me wondering is the level name, you really don’t have to put information in the level name that it’s only for jj2+. That makes it only harder to remember the filename, also the “_” things does. It is better to replace the whole word “battle” with a “btl”. And now see, its easier to remember “btlfirestorm.j2l” than “battle_firestorm_jj2+.j2l”. It doesn’t matter, I’m just saying that its easier to remember it then.

The last thing is the music choice. Not really sure if it fits the level, the whole lava stuff doesn’t make this music fit. Still if you have got jj2+ you can just simply change the music.

And that’s all. I’m not sure if this level deserves to get DR, for now there are things that I didn’t liked(this doesn’t really count the filename and music choice or that strange thing with spring) and about which I have mentioned before. So overall it’s 7.2. Not bad level, but it could be better.

Micky, I surely can see how you are pressing “Alt+S” on this screen.

That’s nice idea anyway. It could be better to make it working with mouse, but we can’t have got everything. I didn’t find any bugs or something like that, maybe that’s because I just checked is it really working, and yeah, it is. That’s a nice option to add into new jj2+ version is there going to be some…

Hah, Aycox send me that level before. It’s.. Nice, but I can see many things because of layer 3, layout is a bit strange, but it’s better than mine first ctf level : P. Also, it’s looking nice, good eyecandy. But its surely unplayable. So i just don’t know how to rate it…

I don’t think that this tileset is so bad, but it’s not really so good. Surely it’s not that bad to rate it lower than 6. It’s just a simple tileset made very fast. There is only one animation here, but there is also a lot of ground types, corretly – colours of it. This tileset is looking empty anyway… Wouldn’t that be better to make for example 3 different coloured tilesets, but with more things inside it? Then it could be possibile to make different textured background types too, which could be more fitting to every different ground colour.

It’s possibile to make nice eyecandy with it(first WP example is looking very good in my opinion). Simple, but nice. I like the idea about coloured rain, it’s looking funny. Nice clouds, also tileset is easy to use.

I saw worse tilesets which where getting rating between 8 and 9, but I will rate this 7. Not really good tileset, it’s too simple, looking like the creator of it run out of ideas and just wanted to change colours of ground and release it fast. Anyway, good job. I won’t say is it recommended to download it, if someone likes it, then he should download it, if he doesn’t the he shoudln’t. Thats all.

@Tropicco, that was what I meant by worse tilesets with rate between 8 and 9 :)

Actually, i wouldn’t even get intrested in this level. Treasure is not often played gamemode in jj2, and in my opinion its bad. It can be pretty intresting sometimes, but not in original maps(which sucks), only in some maps created by jj2 players (there aren’t many of them, mostly people enjoys making ctfs or battle maps[or maps for some random gamemodes]) it can be really fun. One of most original gamemodes has been forgotten.
When I joined a server with this level… Well, first I was a bit suprised that it’s not a survivor or sth like that, but a normal treasure level. I started to play, just because I was feeling bored. Then I changed my opinion about treasure a bit, it can be really fun if level is good enough.
This level is better for bigger games. Level is looking good, but sometimes eyecandy is poor. Seeks are not overpowered(as it was in original treasure levels), there is only one seek pu and not much ammo for it. There is also toaster pu, bounce pu, electro blaster pu, blaster pu, gun8 pu, ice pu and rf pu in the level… Isn’t that a bit too much? I wouldn’t get suprised if I will discover TNT pu in the level.
I have found a coin warp in which you need to pay 100 coins to get into it. Well, what do I can say about it? I couldn’t get into warp, because of too big price. In one game it would be surely finished before anyone could get that many coins. Also i don’t understand what do this coin warp do…
Level is intresting, but I have joined this level on server after game was started, so gems lost by players were everywhere… Now, when im looking on this leveI have got a bit suprised, there is only one place with regenerating gems where you can get, hard to wonder – gems. A bit strange idea, in my opinion you could put long time respawning green gems… Of course it’s logically, that at the beggining most players are camping only in this place, and that wouldn’t be so bad… But it is. It is because the end area is in the same place, where the gems are respawning. So if you prefer to stay and camp for gems, this map is for you. Im not really sure is making something like that a good idea, you can easily fall down from that position, and then it can be hard to get into up again. And it works… Players are not camping, mostly they are fighting in the lower part of the level.
Some things shouldn’t be placed on level like that, for example Bird Morph. I don’t understand what’s the reason for putting it into multiplayer level. It’s just stupid for me. By the way, what does trigger crates add in this level? I couldn’t find out what has been changed after I destroyed a crate.
Finally, what about the level in general? Sometimes poor eyecandy(but nice looking background), only the “gem machine” is looking good, too much power-ups, strange coin warp, strange idea about putting bird morph into level, but also nice gameplay, not bad ammo placement, some guns(like seeks) are not overpowered… It’s nice, big level. I have found some bugs(near the coin warp I could stand on the wall[or near something else, I can’t remember]), but at last this level is not bad. I think that it can be really bad for smaller games(with 4 players it can be only about camping near “gem machine”), but when there are 12 or more players in the map then it’s really nice and funny to play. But it could be better…

Edit: Now i know what does this coin warp do, when you will go into it you can carrot, which makes you immortal for some seconds(it was probably called invisibility carrot in jcs, but im not sure about that). Also, I know what does trigger crates do. When you will destroy all of them sometimes in the place of RF or Seeks you can get shield(maybe, that didn’t happened to me, but autor of this level explained me how is it working, I didn’t checked it). Good that those events have got their destination then.

Well, I was playing it a bit on Djazz servers too, Ron, and i think that idea for this level is… quite awesome. If there will be a new pool for new gamemode which are going to be put into jj2+, I will vote for Hide and Seek.
What about the level? Red team have to hide, blue is seeking. Different teams have got opened or closed triggers, so blue team cant get into hide positions of red team, but also red team cant get shield and ammo of blue team. Red team can see is there anyone hiding in some position.
That could be better to make it possibile is blue team seeking or hiding. Like in assault maps. Also it needs people at server who knows whats going on, not just running and trying to kill other guys(esspecialy when someone from red team is trying to kill someone from blue team). It’s fun, but i think that it can be played mostly only in a big(or small if someone prefer that) events. Duels are not good idea for this map, but 5v1(5 in red, 1 in blue) can be fun.
Ok, that was about gamemode. What about levels? Not bad, it could be better sometimes(eyecandy is not good enough in my opinion), hiding positions are hard to find as a blue, but when you know level its not a big problem. Ammo placement, well, blue can run somewhere and there is probably always a chance that they will find box with shield and ammo… They have got a bit too much access to it. Red can also kill blue team guy, but with this placement blue team is mostly immortal. Gameplay is good anyway, I very liked it when there was enough people who understood whats going on.
I think that 8 is good for this levels. +0.5 for new gamemode. So i rate it 8.5, download recommendation.

Edit:Er, minmay, tell me the example of older hide and seek level, because i don’t know any.
Edit2:Ok, I just wanted to know…
Well, so if that’s not really a new gamemode I will change my rating to 8.2(+0.2 because I really like this levels).

Soul:
1. RF thing is too big. Its not hard, its just stupid. You need more luck than skills to win it.
2. For me not only BG is annoying. This edited set looks bad. Ah, and big pink bg is annoying, for me it just look really bad. On some levels you can get epilepsy.

And what can I say about level? Well, eyecandy is bad(it doesn’t really exist) and all of the set is annoying. At one of the levels I get stuck in wall. Anyway, at that level i dont have got any idea how to win it, maybe event dissapeared or something, but it’s a bug. At next level i cant see morphs, one more bug. Ah, and without this test i could never imagine that 5+4=9… Really big thanks for math in level, but could you tell me, why did you put that into level? That’s stupid.

Its bad level in my opinion, maybe it could be better, but its not. You didn’t show anything special here(except math), eyecandy is bad, gameplay is bad… Some of events dissapeared. So i give you 1, not recommended to download it.

Edit:Only one thing which i found that is fixed was that dissapearing airboard. Anyway, for me this level is still not good enough to give it more than 1.

I just take a look at level in file preview, and I could review it 1, but I will not do that. Actually, the only one thing which i can say about it that if thats your best level, then you are very poor levelmaker. Try to do something better, but REALLY better, don’t spam with your levels at j2o.
Ah btw, next time try to think about better levelname.
