Uuugh. I thought I’d just play this pack for the hell of it. I was not impressed…constantly recycling layouts DOES NOT deserve a 7.7. It’s extremely lazy, and boring for the player and made me lose interest in playing this very quickly. I didn’t even finish it. Actually I won’t even mention why it wasn’t converted to 1.23 since it isn’t Lori compatible anyway (maybe the tilesets were too big but I can’t be bothered checking), but since this not worth playing anyway, I don’t care.

Story

Nothing special. It’s just “Devan and the lizards are back and kill rabbits oh noes”. Didn’t pay attention to it much, and the bad grammar makes it worse. Don’t be afraid to ask others to check the grammar for you, they won’t bite your head off. I kinda feel bad for laughing at it for all the wrong reasons, including the several “Well, yeah that’s really obvious” moments. And RedRazz is a really uncreative character, just a recoloured Jazz. The “Razz” does make it kind of insulting, considering that there’s already an unreleased character called that, which has a far better character design. Maybe it’s a coincidence. The cutscenes were really long, boring and unecessary. They dragged on too much, and there was nothing interesting to find out. Lots of waiting too. Hello jjnext, hows your day today? I have to admit the actual TV cutscene was pretty cool though as a concept, but that’s about it.

Gameplay

Every gameplay style is the exact same as the other, destroy the crates in some maze-like level with recycled layouts. I have to admit I was never a fan of mazes in JJ2, and when you lose your bearings I just feel I’d rather play something else. Try different types of gameplay styles for more interesting gameplay, and for the love of god, don’t recycle layouts ever again! I’d rather play a small level with an fresh layout. The enemy placements aren’t too great, I played in Hard and it was mainly enemy spam, also it was easy to dodge them since most are all laid out across the floor, and you can easily just jump over them. Enemy spam does not necessarily equal harder if you put them in the same row, it just takes more time to kill them. Also try placing enemies in midair at the same time as well as enemies on the floor. Not a wide selection of enemies were used throughout the level pack either. Spaz got a few extra goodies while Jazz got…nothing.

Eyecandy

I’m going to slightly rewrite this part because apparently he used paint shop pro 9..now I haven’t used it, but all these rabbit people feel more like they’ve been done with MSpaint somewhat in a crude way. Asides from that, there is a few cool elements, like the subway which I forgot to mention, asides from that, the eyecandy is pretty much standard.

Music

Hit n’ miss. As in how well it fits. Some of it did alright at fitting, while some was all happy-clappy which seriously did not belong there as it felt really unclimatic.

This is not worth downloading.

LORI IS A BORI AND SHE SUCKS.

Why I have a feeling that you originally made this lvls for 1.23, and then converted it to TSF? Hmmmm……

Anyway, i said that this pack looks fine. I downloaded it, extractrd to my JJ2 folder, played, and now it’s time for review.

Eyecandy:
Nice. I don’t know what to say about it, you made not only a SP episode, but also a very nice tileset based on(I assume! I don’t know if the list is true.) JJ1 Industrial, JJ2 Beach, Townhouse, Miracle Of Sun, Hotel dream and other stuff that you know. I liked this combination. You made a very original design of the levels here, even though some of the levels has repeatitive design and, if you consider the size of some of those levels – it became annoying. Also, trigger blocks mid-air doesn’t look so good, but I assume that this is the part of the levels you used it. This is not a masterpiece, but this pack looks fine. Almost none tilebugs.
8.5/10

Gameplay
Gameplay was also fine. A lot of levels here are very large, whats mean some time to spend here, and have good enemy, items and obstacle placement. The thing I liked here is the non-linearity of the gameplay. You have to find a lot crates scattered beyont any level to open certain locked zones, and in some levels you’ll have to collect items(cards/cds)…. Quite reminds me Campaign Mysteries, btw. The thing that I dont liked, is the repeatitivity of thie gameplay, A LOT OF LEVELS REPEAT THEMSELVES! and if you consider the size of some of those levels – it became annoying. VERY ANNOYING. Also, you got too much long and annoying cutscenes(like: elevators, ships and helis) that quite bore me. People like action. not watching. You got TV for that.
8.5/10

Story:
Quite good story, but very unoriginal. Devan Shell is too much banal…. Also, I didn’t understand a lot of things you wrote in text strings. You have to do something with your english.
6.5/10

Music:
In most levels the music fit the level. However, Melon.mod is not suitable with Police stations, and a very annoying ambient sounds in the helicopter levels could make a man a psycho. But although, you did a nice job.
7.5/10

Final: 8.5+8.5+6.5+7.5 = 31/4 =7.75 ~ 7.7.

DR: Yes. This pack have potential, and you have it. Keep making levels!

P.S. Don’t know how to use the right music? Download good levels. A lot. The best levelmakers know what hey are doing. And also, The best way to advance yourself is to learn from the best ones. Also, you can use Modarchive.com for mods.

Where is the four? (IV) :)

Well, I played this levels and I have an idea.

Firstly why Carottus?
A lot of levels carrotus. And some diamondus levels, one medivo and one tubelectric level.

And, why buttstomp blocks?

All levels are including a lot of buttstomp tiles.

Last: Why copied Epic levels?

Rating Jazz2 for Windows

To start:
This is a funny level with Jazz, Spaz and Lori Jackrabbit in another Windows XP-window and a virus error-message. Funny idea, but bad performed.

Eyecandy: (20 pts)
I can’t take a look into your level layers (because the file is protected), so the Eyecandy-rating is for what you see when you play the level. The foreground is used for the window! Funny! I give you 14 points for the foreground. The background is kinda disappointing, because there is just a sky and that’s all. So that’s just 3. The path is decorated with exactly enough stuff, like trees, torches and crates. A magnificet score of 17 for the path! The average score is 11,33 points, 11 points when I round it down.
Result: 11 pts

Gameplay: (20 pts)
Moderate. The level is quite long, so that’s good. But there are three big problems when I look at the gameplay. Firstly it’s the XP-window, because it disturbs me when I want to see where I like to go. The second problem is – and I think you already guessed it right – the virus error-message. It distracts me. And the third one is the pit. If you fall in there, you have to cheat, or if you don’t know it, you have to reset the game and that’s very frustrating!
Result: 7 pts

Story: (10 pts)
There is no story. So this factor does not count for your final rating.
Result: N/A

Obstacle placement: (20 pts)
In this levels the enemies and lava-pits are good placed. But also in this part of the rating the three problems in the gameplay count, because those are obstacles too! I think you know which obstacles I mean, so I don’t have to say more about it. Overall the obstacle placement is reasonable.
Result: 10 pts

Bonus placement: (10 pts)
Saw short: the bonus placement in this level is great and it is a very funny idea to place blue gems above the lava! It’s some sort of switch: one blue gem in exchange for some hearts of your health.
Result: 9 pts

Conclusion
If you like to be distracted, this is just the level where you’re looking for. If you don’t, just ignore it and choose another one.

Total points: 37
Maximum number of points: 80-10(story)= 70
Calculating: 37÷70×9+1= 5.8
Final Rating: 5.8

Hmmmm…..
I like the idea. Virus message is good. But,it’s a little hard to see where are you going because of the window. Windows part of the tileset looks good, but I didn’t like the Jazz “tileset” part so much. For now,7.2. Continue with good tileset making.
