This is a rather short, easy single player level. I played this on hard mode and I managed to beat it in under two minutes, without getting hit more than three times. There are no secrets in the level, only one enemy was used, and the design is totally linear without any originality. I couldn’t find a single above average thing in the level, but the tileset usage wasn’t too bad, despite the lack of a complete background.

I give this level a 6 because it is of average quality.

I’m going to have to ask that those who worked on the level not rate it. You may give it a review, but please keep it to N/A. It’s always been a rule that you may not review your own work.

This is an above average treasure pack by Warlord. It contains a good amount of levels, most of them fairly well made. I don’t have many complaints about these levels, but a few didn’t seem to have enough gems. The exit is a bit hard to find in a few levels, so points were taken off for that. I’m not much of a treasure fan myself, but these aren’t bad levels. If you ever want to host a treasure server, this pack of levels is one you should consider using.

Please mark TSF levels properly. Do not say they are for 1.23. There is nothing that prevents people from lowering their scores as a result of being mislead…

This is a semi-symmetrical, rather large CTF level by Cell. I hosted this for a short amount of time earlier today, and I found nothing too great about this level. It’s fairly balanced and looks good, but the pros of this level pretty much end there.

When I played this, I found a lot of things I didn’t like. The layout is pretty uninspired looking, as it isn’t too original. I found a lot of springs in areas that cause them to be a nuisance, as well as many unneeded obstacles. The level isn’t the easiest to move around in, making the playing experience rather unenjoyable. I also found a major gameplay flaw where jazz can literally glide from base to base with the flag, almost totally safe from enemy fire. Most of the players will probably be playing as spaz, and as such, they will probably be crossing the level at the bottom of it, completely unable to stop jazz from hovering above and scoring multiple points. I don’t have anything against making some features of the level better for either character, but this is a tad extreme.

As for general bugs in the level, I found one major problem, and a few smaller ones. The small bug in this level is that the mask around the edges of it isn’t quite thick enough to prevent the infamous bug that causes the flag holder’s name to repeat, among other things. To prevent this, make the mask around the level at least three tiles thick. The large bug I found was the warp at position 183, 86. It will bring the person warping to a nearby warp target near the bottom of the level. The problem here is that the player is able to move left or right, thus avoiding a sucker tube that is supposed to carry them upwards. The player will get stuck on the bottom of the level, and will be forced to rejoin.

This author is capable of much better levels than this one. I suggest that he finds people to test his levels, spends a good deal of time listening to their suggestions and complying with them. Omitting the testing procedure, or using poor testers (which cell has appeared to have done with this level) will show, and ultimately result in a low or disappointing score.

I give this level a 6.5 because it is playable, but lacking many things that would have made it a good level.

This is possibly the best tileset edit I have seen. It’s not just a pallete edit, it’s an actual improvement to the castle tileset. It looks great, has a textured background, and is more flexable than the original Castle. I’m not too fond of the Castle2E version, just because it is a little too werid with the dark sprite colours contrasting with the bright background. I’m not taking any points off for that though, because the other two versions are great. I see no flaws in the masking of this tileset. In fact, there are no problems at all in the tileset.

As I stated before, the sprite colours are slightly edited, but that is quite common these days. If done well (as in this tileset), it actually looks good as it sets the mood and works much better than ambient lighting, which I find most people play without.

I am giving this tileset pack 8.5 points because it looks great and has no problems. It’s probably the highest score I will ever give an edited/ripped tileset, so I congratulate Blurred for his efforts. Download this.

Make it generate a gradent that you can use to base a textured background off of. Right now this is totally useless. 2 points for it actually working.

I’m not really much of a tileset reviewer, so I’ll keep this short. This tileset is well masked, and has most of the tiles a good set needs. I would like to see some smaller tiles for platforms that can also be used for destruct scenery.

I like how this set is so dark. I’m going to use this one.

This is another good level made by >Cell<.

This sure does look like Spy’s beach level, and that is a good thing. This level looks quite nice, and is detailed enough to look good, but not too much to distract the player (like some levels that make excessive use of foreground…)

The level is small, and is good for 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 CTF games. Other than that, I can’t really say much more.

Keep up the good work, Cell. You are becomming a great level maker.

Congratulations… you just made a level that deserves a score of more than 8 from me. That isn’t common.

This is a fairly large level with two bases on each side and a temple in the middle. The temple forms about 80% of the level, and is well designed. What I like about it most is that the bases are in such open areas, and it is extremely difficult to defend them without being killed. People can come from above and the side, and due to the one way event they are located on, the bases are extremely easy to attack with seekers. This makes the level have fast gameplay, and I like that.

The event placment in this level is good. Each weapon used in the level is easy to find, there are two powerups, and a few carrots to balance it out. The powerups are located in fairly interesting places too, and they are sort of out of the way which I like in a CTF level.

One thing I would have liked to see in this was more gun9 (electroblaster for the JCS impaired). This level has a rather vertical design I find, with a lot of walls that could have been shot through easily.

Overall, this level fully deserves my score of 8.2, and I higly reccomend this for download. I might even host this level in my server some time.

This is a good battle level using the Egypt(day) tileset and has my download reccomendation.

Everything in this level was done well, and I like the layout more than most battle levels. Sandy Temple has a rather circular layout, and doesn’t have any of those “random platforms” splattered everywhere that I hate. A few springs could have been more powerful in this level, but otherwise the level flows well.

I give this a 7.5, which is higher than my usual score for battle levels.

Before I say anything, I have to tell you something VERY important. ALWAYS put a mask around the borders of a CTF level. That means make sure that there are no ways to “touch” the edge of a level. This counts for the top, bottom and sides. The reason for doing this is to prevent the infamous “flag bug” which causes a person’s name to be repeated countless times at the bottom of the screen. Because you didn’t do this, I am taking off a big 1 point from the total score untill you fix it.

Besides that major flaw, I think this isn’t a bad level. The layout works for the most part, it doesn’t look bad, and there are powerups (I like those). There are some other problems with this level however, and I think that next time you make a CTF level you should take some consideration.

First off, the bases are imbalanced. Notice how the blue base is sort of cramed into a dead end while the red base is more in the open? That means that the blue base is easier to defend. Also, there is only ONE puny carrot, with a big 28 second generator, while there are two powerups. A powerup in CTF mode is a two hit kill, and usually one carrot won’t even change anything. I reccomend that you add another carrot somewhere, or a full nrg, because those powerups mean people are going to be dying a bit too much. Finally, this level has ice, and I don’t like that weapon much.

Overall, this level is fairly good, and I reccomend it for no more than 6 players. I give it a 6.7 out of ten, minus 1. That equals 5.7.

This level isn’t bad. It has a decent layout, bearable eyecandy (a good thing), and decent gameflow.

I didn’t, however, find anything outstanding about this map, and the whole thing seemed to be uncreative and uninspired. I have seen a lot of battle levels before, and to me this one isn’t too different.

Suggestions for this level:
Utilize the foreground layers more. You would be suprised how much better your level would look with a few creative uses of foreground. Also, I didn’t really like how part of the BG scrolled faster than the sprite layer, nor did I like how rushed the background looked. Next time, spend more time on it.

I give this level a 6.7, which I consider good for a battle level. It is very hard for me to come across a battle level I can actually give a score of 8 or higher to, so don’t take this as a bad score. You were just unlucky that I decided to review this level :P

This is a fairly well made race level, one with a good length and fairly original obsticles. The only real complaint I have is about the part where you have to hit trigger zones to go through warps. I found that part pretty monotonous after the second one of those rooms. Other than that one flaw, I found playing in it enjoyable and not too frustrating. Overall I would say the design is good.

As for the eyecandy, I have to say that it could have used a bit more work. To me it was merely average, which I don’t really like.

I consider every other aspect of this level to be good, so I am giving this level a 7. Good job.[This review has been edited by EvilMike]
