Well, considering that it was your first tileset, I guess it’s pretty good.

Good Stuff:
- includes all essential tile types and several extra tile types
- good use of multiple layers
- waterfalls looks nice!
- bmp files and info included

Bad Stuff:
- eye candy needs serious help; using your PSP could help a lot with textures and shading
-unoriginal; I think I’ve seen everything in this tileset other places before.
- too plain; I can understand that you may have wanted it to look “painty”, but I don’t think you really accomplished that

Don’t be afraid to take lots of time working on each part of the tileset. Even though you’ve had the set in production for a number of years, it doesn’t look like you spent much time on it. Considering that it’s your first tileset, this is understandable. You have some potential, but it looks like you could use some practice first :) .

Edit: I honestly think I was too harsh on the rating the first time, sorry![This review has been edited by Biohazard UOI]

GOOSU TILESET AND COOL MASKS AND LEVEL :D

I won’t rate however, since if I’d rate seriously, it would pull down the average and I don’t want that :P

JelZe: The .css file is a file that contains info about the font and font color and stuff for the HTML readme. Thanks for the review, btw ;)

Labratkid: Sorry :D and OMG ILL WATCH IT.

Biohazard: It is must unlikely I will create another tileset. I just found the bmps of this one on my HD a few weeks ago, and optimized everything to release it, but it will probably be my first and last tileset :P.

Litenante_91: Rate the tileset, not the (sux) level.[This review has been edited by Fl@$h aka BlewMeUp]

You forgot me in the mask message D:

Interesting, Trafton’s name backwards – which is “Notfart”, as most of you know – is also :No TF Art.” WATCH HIM RATE THIS LOW =(((

Hehe, my turn to review :p

First, I’d like to mention something about the contents of the Zip-file: not only does it contain the tileset and example, but also the original’s BMP-files (good for previews, people should make a habit of that), a logo, and something I can’t identify :p It’s a .css file in any case (Anyone?)

Ok, now the tileset itself. Somehow, it reminds of Diamondus in JJ1. Yes, the grass/forest (?) theme returns once more :p The graphics are basic imo, no gradients except on the edges. The animations (color animation again, I love those :p) are really nicely done, especially on the waterfalls. Eye candy is there: trees, the mentioned waterfall, signs… That alone can give you a moderate rating. What brings the rating up a notch is that sucker tubes are included, and vines, hooks (there’s a seperate hook event, remember that, Flash ;)), poles… What’s really surprising is that the colors don’t screw up in 8-bit mode when you use the water level event. Kudos for that, Flash :) And of course he didn’t forget hidden massages in the mask :p

Verdict:
While the graphics look simple at best, this set actually has a lot to offer. and content is more important than graphics alone. The graphics are worth a 7 at best, but because of the set’s content (hooks, vines, etc.) the rating raises to an 8 I know, I’m cheap XD. One more thing: the example level shows everything you need to know, but has a faulty next level setting. It’s still an example level, so I won’t withdraw points for that. Good work Flash, keep it up!

FS’s review for Rather Useless CTF:

I’ll cover the gameplay aspect first. This level may be hard to navigate and confusing, but after playing for a while, it was fun having a variety of paths and warps to enter. However, in my opinion it would’ve been better if there was only one warp to the place where you choose the seeker or bouncer P/U but there hasn’t been any real problem with this and it’s personal interest. So it doesn’t effect my rating. The gameplay is ok – good. And the flow was decent but could use a bit more work as the area between the RF P/U and the full NRG has an annoying float up that should be removed.

The gameplay for 2vs2s/3vs3s looks decent, in fact even better for them than duels. The bases seem to be designed for camping as they are down in holes only allowing a one – way entry.

Eyecandy is the best overall aspect of this level. It totally amazed me at first when I saw it, unlike most good CTF levels where the eyecandy just looks good and/or well designed. The eyecandy here added feeling to the level along with the music. However I didn’t like how the BG was white. It looked very weird but thats just personal.

The level not only looks good but also has some original uses like the windows for example. Although not much separates it from other levels that use the CS tileset like CelL’s Chromosphere.

Weapon and Ammo placement was ok I didn’t have much of a problem with that. The seek P/U and the RF should have switched places but then again thats more of a personal opinion.

The replay value is good, but as most have stated this is not a very fun/easy-to-learn level at first so you HAVE to play it a lot.

Overall this is a very nice level from Unhit and Flash, the gamplay may be a bit rough but it’s fun once you play it more and the eyecandy is enough to catch players attention as well.

Please download this if your a CTF freak or not. I reccomend it to all.

Yet another compacted contest level review:

Rather useless CTF

GAMEPLAY: Pretty much balanced. Alright flow. Good layout.
EYE CANDY: Somewhat above average.
CARROT PLACEMENT: Good.
AMMO PLACEMENT: No complaints.
HOST THIS OFTEN? More likely than not.

Overall review: At first, playing this level may be tough and confusing. It’s not easy to get used to right away. But after a while, it does become more fun to play (like Flash and Unhit mentioned in the readme). The flow in the level could be a little better and less narrow in places, but it’s otherwise good. This level reminds me of JAIL and my first impressions of it. It’s a nice level and you shouldn’t turn it down just because you don’t find it too easy to get around at first. 8.2 is my rating for this level. It’s another good level to own newbies in.

BTW, flag bug with one tile borders generally only happens when there is a lot of lag.

A pretty much above averege level pack we have here. This pack, using the ‘Mez02’, ‘Carottus’, ‘Medivo’ and ‘Newest’ tilesets. These are realy some fine battle levels. I like the way Fl@sh used the tilesets. It realy looks pretty interesting and fun. It would have been beter to have that big spaceship on layer 7 in the 4th level move, instead of just hover in the background. It would realy look nicer. I liked the level ‘plastic pipes’, using the Mez02 tileset. The platforms that where’ tangled up’ looked pretty neat, reminded me of ‘Unemotionel landscape’ by Mez herself. The music files where pretty cool, the Megairbase song from JJ1 to name one. The ammo placement was prety good too, not to much or to litle. Lveles where a bit small, but thats not a problem, as long as they are’nt as small as ‘The CelLleavtor’:). Design was good, pretty circular, only lots’a places to get stuck though. I would like to give this(and i will too) a pretty nifty 7.7 points and a FAT download recomendation.

Good job Flash.
You created some nice levels:
~nice eyecandy (only it’s sometimes a bit confused);
~pretty good weapon placement;
~you used the pretty difficult tilesets very good;
~a good warp ‘placement’.

I gif a 8.2 for these nice designed levels and i recommend to download this little ‘pack’, people.

OK, let me rate the first level at first :):

+ Nice eyecandy
+ Good weaponplacement
+ Warps where nobody thinks of them
- No ricochets

All in one, an 8.2.

The second one:

+ VERY nice eyecandy
+ The best size for such kind of lvl I think
- Sometimes, there are “errors” with the Sprite Foreground Layer
- A bit too few weapons I think

So a 7.8 for this level.

Everybody that knows anything about maths will be able to calculate this now :): 8.2+7.8/2=8.0

So my rating for this levelpack is 8.0

Nice levels, though weird ones (totally UNREAL) the first one had some weird eye candy where the pipes were moving across the foreground screen (never seen that before) the second one wasn’t as “WEIRD” (though i don’t think i’ll have a “Kight Mare”) i can imagine blasting a few rabbits in it overall good job, Flash!

These are 2 fairly decent battle levels Flash made. Both of them have good eyecandy, a bit confusing sometimes, but good. The ammo and stuff like that there placement is good 2. I think i liked the labrat level best. I realy dont have much to say anymore. Go download these.

Spacey-ness! This level is realy one of the best battle levels i`ve seen in a while. Flash used the (AWESOME!!!) tileset “spacey universe) by Disguese very neatly. The level design is superb. The ammo placement and stuff like that is good too. The music fits very well too. I also like the slogan:“Jazz2 4ever!”(who does`nt?:-d)
To end this review, i would like to say that every battle fan out there should download this!

(Aww! Why do these authors always forgot to set a single player start event?!)
Well, as for the actual review, Fl@sh made some good choices before he decided to start building the level: he uses Disguise’s COMPLETELY AWESOME “Spacey Universe” tileset and the fasttracked “Deadlock” tune by Elwood (so…as you can see, the music is not by “Somebody” but by Elwood, member of the super 133t finnish demo/tracking scene!).
The level itself looks very cool, Fl@sh used all kinds of different structures and objects from the set and placed them very wisely. The design makes it very fluently playable and a joyful experience to battle! About the layer work: what can i say, just beautiful…mainly because of the tileset but the level author did what he had to do. Very nice arrangements!
The music (see above) also fits perfectly.

I reward “Everlasting Allyship” with eight (8!!!) points because i’m sooo happy to finally some quality at J2O and some guys that still know how to choose a neat tileset and make a good level out of it. Great level making, Fl@shman![This review has been edited by Aiko]
