Shut up, winner.
The level is not bad for a first level (yes, I always say that :P) but there are some things that should be improved. First of all, all text is in Dutch and since the majority of the J2O users is not Dutch it would have been a good idea to make those texts in English. Another problem is that the spikes don’t have the hurt event on them, so they don’t hurt at all. The third problem is the end boss (devan): he often runs out of the screen so you can’t see him or shoot at him.
The level is way too short and easy because there are just the “easy enemies” like norm turtles and devils, and there are too much carrots. The music doesn’t fit. I didn’t find any real eyecandy problems, so thats a pro.
The level is too boring and short anyway. Download not advised. “Power Rick”, try to make your levels longer and more challenging next time, and keep practising ;)
EDIT: Forgot the rating.[This review has been edited by Fl@$h aka BlewMeUp]
I didn’t even play the whole pack because too much things didn’t work. For example: most trigger zones ad wrong settings, there were very much parts that only could be accessed with Spaz, and you frequently fall in pits full of spikes when you can’t do enything about it. The plot in “notebook” (the readme) is as bad as the levels: “Splot save sonic land folk and destroy robotnik.” Well, I think that demonstrates the quality of this.
I would reommend you to read the “10 tips for leveldesign” by CliffyB on http://www.jazzjackrabbit.com and the Howto JCS at http://zeepost.nl/~howtojcs. Keep practising until you make a pack that someone might want to download.

Woo! I must say this is one of the best JJ1 song remixes I heard. Nice “flow”, and the mixture of the “tutututu” sound on the background and the main music is very nice. Download now.
…You fooled us :P
I don’t know. This is like 3DBattle, but with Hand-drawn graphics. Graphics are very nice, but the tileset’s usability is zero. You’re walking through a beautiful, yet kinda messy, “greenland” with weird masking. Too bad you can’t make levels very different from the example level with this. This would have been a 7/8 or higher when you seperated paltforms and background
EDIT: Please upload the tilesets you gave us screenshots of :)[This review has been edited by Fl@$h aka BlewMeUp]
Excellent.

Maybe I downloaded another tileset as the other reviewers, but the one I reviewed doesn’t deserve a 7.0 or even 8.2. The tileset is made of square grey blocks with pictures on it, and a few tiles of eyecandy. The masking isn’t good as well. There are absolutely NO diagonal tiles/slopes, which makes it almost impossible to make a good level with it, and the background also looks pretty dull, altough it works in textured mode in a weird way. Another major setback is the lack of “needed basic tiles”, such as the poles, vines, hurts, tubes, destruct and destruct blocks.
This tileset may bring back memories and feelings of nostalgia of players of this old windows game, but that shouldn’t be a reason to overrate it. The tileset is boring, and very hard to use when you’re trying to create a level. Not because the tiles don’t fit together, but because there aren’t enough useful tiles, such as the needed poles and vines and slopes. Don’t download this, except when you want to get the “feeling of nostalgia” described by others. For some reason I didn’t get that feeling, but that may be because I never played the original game.
I’m afraid I must agree with Enigma. I was expecting a level pack you could actually play , not a boring interactive movie. This pack consists of levels where you simply have to walk, and sometimes something happens, but there isn’t real action. Download recommended though, you could find some interesting stuff in this.
Greetings back, Blaze :)
While I have to admit the story isn’t very original (Devan turns back and you have to save the world once again…) the levels are. Instead of just “Get to the end of the level” each level in this pack has it’s own “mission” which makes the pack very cool to play. For example, you have to protect someone for a certain time, you have to hide the signs that say where carrotus is, you have to find three gem rings… You know.
LEVEL 1: Carrotus in the target.
At the beginning of this level, you sort of “wake up” in the middle of carrotus and you see a horde of Tuf Turtles approaching the Carrotus castle/village/whatever. Your “mission” is to hide the carrot signs, so the Turtles can’t find Carrotus.
The eyecandy in this level is very good, altough at some places it’s confusing because I couldn’t tell the difference between the “normal” platforms on which yu walk and the background scenery. The second “problem” (well, nothing to worry about, but…) was the fact that you had to search for the hole under the carrot sign to make it disappear. Apart from that, I couldn’t find something to get upset about, excpet for the fact there are no savepoints. I know savepoints would be impossible, because of the trigger zones and coins and stuff, so I suggest you just to save frequently. In this level. there are dozens of bats and you can’t always see them since it’s dark, which caused me to die about 5 times before I completed the level.
LEVEL 2: Invasion of the castle
And there, you are, in the castle. Eva is prisoned and to free her, you have to find and destroy3 silver crates. Again there are no savepoints in this level, but that’s the only setback. The eyecandy is well-done again, but I think the level is too dark.
There are very much enemies in this level, so you have to save the game frequently, or you’ll have to do everything again when you die.
The crates aren’t hard to find, but they’re protected by some “maze” things, and unfortunately there is a part Spaz can’t cross without getting hurt (at least I couldn’t).
There’s plenty of ammo in this level. GOod thing, because you’ll surely need it for the 3th level…
LEVEL 3/4: The wolf rabbit/Sunset forest
The 3th level is some sort of cutscene, where Eva asks you to find Moonblaze, the wise man who lives in the forest, and who knows how to stop the invasion. The 4th level is the level where you’ll have to find Moonblaze’s hideout, and I didn’t like it. There are too much enemies, and at start you directly get chased by Dragonflies and monkeys. The eyecandy is nice, altough confusing, because you can’t see the enemies sometimes. In this level, there are savepoints. You’ll need them.
There’s very much food in this level, so you’ll often get a sugar rush. This takes the “too much enemies” thing a bit away, altough I still think there are too much of ‘em. The hideout of Moonblaze at the end of the level is just a hole in a tree, where you enter the house and talk to Moonblaze…
LEVEL 5: Meeting with Moonblaze
Cutscene: You talk with Moonblaze and find out that it’s proably Devan who is doing this all. Moonblaze needs three gem rings to open the magic portal to Devan’s hideout…
LEVEL 6: Ring Search.
Looks like Sunset Forest, altough you have to find three gem rings instead of Moonblazes hideout. I think this level also is too dark, same problem as level 2. This level uses Nature’s Ruins, and it looks cool, altough the eyecandy may be confusing. The level is hard, but with the seekers you found in the previous levels it shouldn’t be very difficult to kill all those monkeys. The music is nice and fits good. After this trilling quest you’re going off to the next one, where Moonblaze tries to open the magic portal and you have to protect him…
LEVEL 7: A flame of power
Cool! You have to stop the enemies that constantly chase you in this level. In the middle, you see Moonblaze doing some mysterious magical things to open the “Magic Portal” and from both sides enemies are coming. Not just bats, Tuf Turtles and Monkeys, but also Skeletons, Capped Turtles and Devils, so the level doesn’t get boring altough you’ll have to do the same thing for about 5 minutes; kill those baddies.
Bad thing is that this is too easy. When you kill the bad boys they’ll leave gems, fastfires and carrots behind, as usual, so when you’re low on health just kill some extra baddies with your machine gun (powered up by loads of fastfires) and you’re done.
Every minute there will fall down a coin, and with 5 coins you can acces the next level, where evil ravens and devils await you and a big monster wants to fight with you, the one who tries to save the world…
LEVEL 8: Where Bad Rabbits go
This level, with very great eyecandy, takes place in hell, where Devan awaits you. First you have to find him; this shouldn’t be too hard, since the level is fairly short and with all ammo you gathered in the previous levels this shouldn’t be a big deal. No puzzles, so that won’t delay you either. This level is fun to play anyway, because of the ravens and bats that will chase you trough walls so it’s hard to kill them… And you need your seekers for the fight with Devan at the end. After you defeated him, you’ll get a level with the credits, and even I am in it. I don’t understand why you stop moving sometimes while watching the credits. Is it because of my computer or does it have a reason? Anyway, the music is nice ;)
OVERALL: Altough the name and story aren’t very original, the gameplay is superb and I really like it. Download now or Devan will come alive again for the 234th time and get you.
Moonblaze is as positive as usual :P
The level is bad indeed. The background is tiled wrong, and the layer 6+7 speeds are also wrong, which causes the background eyecandy to float around the screen while you’re moving. The weapon placement is unbalanced: at some places there’s loads of ammo and on other places there’s a big empty space without any events. The idea of a power-up room is always used by newbies (not meant in a bad way :)and it doesn’t work well. it’s a better idea to spread the powerups trough the whole level instead of having them all in one spot.
Another typical newbie part of the level is the “air battle” part. This is another bad idea, because you can’t get to the other part of the level then and the players will be seperated. Better make one big level with all parts connected to each other.
Both the “rooms” (air battle and er… ground wars :) are too empty. You should put more platforms inside, and use caves and stuff to make better eyecandy. As I already mentioned you should also make the ammo and goodies placement more balanced.
Overall, I saw worser first levels, but the fact this is a first level doesn’t mean it should get a better rating. Take a look at high-rated battle levels and go here for advanced tips and trics. Better luck next time, and don’t feel discouraged now because your first level got a low rating.
I must say this tileset looks cool. The colors are funky, but they don’t hurt your eyes. All tiles look very smooth, and there’s layer 6+7 eyecandy. What do we want more?
Well, a bit more colors would have been nice. Now there’s only green and blue, and altough there are a few eyecandy objects, the tileset may start getting boring quickly. another set-back is that it’s hard to see the difference between the masked “platform” blocks and the “cave” tiles. You should have made the cave tiles a bit darker.
The textured background doesn’t work unfortunatly, and I would rather like to see an “outside” background here, like in Mez02.
The basic stuff (vines, blocks and stuff) is there, along with some freaky text boards.
I would like to add I really like your tileset style. It may look simple, but well… I like it :P 8,0 may be too high, but I don’t care. Download this.[This review has been edited by Fl@$h aka BlewMeUp]
I agree with that. This level simply sucks: Too much non-fitting enemies (What are all those monkeys doing in the D
Assault rules, it would be cool if this level also does…
Well, I dunno. The level is nice, but in my opinion it’s more a Battle level than an Assault level. It has kinda much ammo, and too much springs. The crates are placed well, they’re close to each toher but you have to run a big distance to break the crates so the game won’t be completed too fast. The snow looks ugly, but it’s not annoying because you don’t really see it because of the background color. That’s a tileset and not a level error anyway.
Another irritating uhm… thing is the not-jazz-friendlyness. Most peopel play with Spaz, but there are still players who like Jazz more and you shouldn’t make the level more Jazz- or Spazfriendly.
I like the level, but the minor set-back is that it isn’t a real Assault level. Not a classic Assault-level anyway. Classic Assault-levels have long tunnels, hard puzzles and not too much ammo. This level is the opposite of this all: Platforms, no puzzles (except finding out where the crate you have to break is) and too much ammo.
Nice try, but I like the “classic” Assuault-levels more.
Okay, lemme be the fiend.
I liek this level. It has a unique spaceship thingy indeed, which looks kinda cool. The gameplay is good, but it’s a bit too hard to find the way to the other base IMO. No (well, I didn’t find one) dead ends and the weapon placement is good, maybe there’s a bit too few ammo but it’s overall okay.
I like the way the tileset is used, it really confuses you sometimes but it looks some sort of uhm… realistic? and it makes the level look very cool, altough it could have been a little bit more colourful :)
I don’t know what to add more… On scale of originality this level scores a 9, but the few gameplay errors bring it back to 7,5.
Hm, WR, I consider that as a copy of your review on CelL’s Assault level :P
I like this. Huge, hard, and not enough eyecandy. Well, with eyecandy this would cause even more lag, but it doesn’t look great. It plays great however. Destroy crates to destroy the base is your goal, and coming with a good readme about Assault this is a very good, if not the best level for this gametype. I’d say… Play it now.
YEAH IT CONTAINS MUSIC AND I DONT LIEK IT BECAUSE THE LEVELS DONT AVE ENOUGH EYECANDY AND THE AMMO ARE BAD AND THE BAGRUND ARE BAD ALSO AND IT ISNT JAZZ FREINDLY AND THE LEEVLS AM TOO SMAL BTW WHO ARE DOKI DOKI PANIC AND THE LEVEL NAMES ARNT GOOD ADN THER AM TOO MUTS BOSSSED TATS TOO MUCH HARD!!!!!!!!111111111111BUT THERE ARE LESS ENOUGH ENEMEYS
BTW GOOD STORY
Please stop uploading stupid stuff like stories or very very very alpha versions.
Moonblaze, BACKGROUND. Not bagrund.
It’s a nice tileset, but not original and it really hurts your eyes. The textured background that doesn’t work and that doesn’t look too good in “tiled” form. The layer 6 and 7 stuff looks very random, just like if you just wrote some lines and filled them up with a non-smooth shade. The destruct blocks are nice, not ripped but good. The “balls” in the first 10 tiles fo the set look ripped to me, altough I’m not sure from what tileset. Apart from the layer 6 and 7 stuff there is no other eyecandy stuff except the stuff to make caves with.
The basic stuff is there, spikes, arrows etc.
I don’t really like this set, but it has enough tiles to make a big level with. I guess a 6,5 is enough for this.
Also had an idea like this once… downloadign and testing it right now ;)
Moonblaze, it’s Backgrounds. Not “Bagrunds”.
The tileset is nice. All blocks come in Red, Green, Blue, Purple and White. The 3D tiles are nice, altough the “gradient” could have been a bit smoother. The blocks neither look very good.
All the basic stuff is there: poles, vines, hooks, blocks, text boards, hurts, tubes, arrows and some numbers (?). No animations in this set, but you can make some funky stuff that hurts your eyes by letting the blocks flash to another color. Wee. Good thing too, the textured background work in both 8 bit and 16 bit color.
The example level has an awful gameplay, but it shows how to use the set. Good job!
Hurray for the fantastic review by Stiletto (probably written in 2 seconds to get the first review on this and increase his review count to get a higher rank)
The backhground layers have a kinda nice layout, not too messy like in Cells levels but they also are’t too empty, it really gives you the feeling theres a “Lost city” on the background. The level itself is a bit empty, but I think it gets more interesting when playing it with 3 or more players. The ammo and event placement is good I think, maybe you could have placed a bit more springs and guns, but it’s enough too roast some rabbits.
To conclude: This small level could have been better, but I think it isn’t too bad. Download? Decide yourself.
EDIT Stiletto: May I maybe decide that by myself? I started this review when only Splash replied. And please don't call me Flashie.[This review has been edited by Fl$h aka BlewMeUp]
