Welcome to xlm fawfull.

Anyways, This is an interesting symetrical ctf level by fawfull, which uses BlurredD’s new tileset, desolation. The level has three powerups, the seeker, the bouncer, and the toaster all placed in similar box type things, which unfortunately promote camping, as they are easily defend-able with the powerups inside of them. The Full energy carrot’s placement promotes more camping unfortunately, as it is right ontop of the seeker powerup. Despite the campability of this level, the gameplay is still rather sound. The author makes use of a rather large sucker tube for transportation from one side of the level to the other; a novel idea, but it can be somewhat confusing at times. The amount of ammo in this level was fine, but the proportions were abit off. There was an unfortunate lack of toaster ammo, making it slightly biased against the red team. Another issue with the ammo was the excess of RF ammo; due to the design of the level RFs become somewhat useless in most of the level. Visually the level is okay, in some places such as the bottom area it gets rather bland. The center and sides of the level could also use more variation. This level does show that the tileset is indeed a very difficult one to master.

All in all this level is just an average ctf level, worth an occasional play.

A nice little battle, by spaz18, it might not be as good for duels as the author states, but it is a nice level for casual gameplay.

Although the rather small level has 5 powerups it doesn’t really have too many, as the author has restricted your means to get most of them in some way. Visually the level is alright, the author has done just about all he can with the rather limited tileset. The one issue I have with the visual aspects of the level is that the snow will only work if you are player one, so the author should have used the snow tiles in the tileset. The carrot in the level could be abit easier to get, but it is only a minor issue. One other problem with the level is that it is somewhat confusing to find the powerups, and both the pepper spray, and bouncer powerups are biased for spaz, as jazz doesn’t have room to uppercut them.

All in all, it’s a fine level, which I reccomend you play this Christmas season.

1 = It obviously isn’t intended to be used for a ‘serious battle’ because it’s ctf

2 = If it’s so easy to make this level, why wasn’t it made already; also you just assume I made this in five minutes, while it may not have took long to assemble in jcs I did quite alot of planning

2 = If you die anyways without carrots why would you need to pickup ammo?

Skills matter in this level, not just luck, the skills to use weapons effectively regardless of what weapon your opponent has.

anyway, just because a level is simple doesn’t mean that it’s bad, if you play SSBM a perfect example is Final Destination.

I dont care that you brought my rating down, I do care though that your review seems like it was written without actually playing this with other people.

You can’t understand why they give so much eights… You’re just thinking this is meant for JJ2WC or JDC :P

The name unconventional coffee fits this quite well, as this level was indeed made for the unusual ctf contest. The eyecandy in this tileset is good enough, it serves it’s purpose keeping the area identifiable and keeping me from getting seriously bored. As for the gameplay, this is where the level really is unconventional. It takes advantage of fly carrots, to enable players to freely move about the central area, and uses pit’s to add risk to getting powerups, and mindlessly walking around, what is great about the pits is that they are really nessessary for the layout, I’ve seen pitfall levels where the pits are just sort of there, and there are other things the creator could have put in the place of the pits, but not in this level. The seeker powerup isn’t quite in the middle, not that it matters really, I’d say it’s symetrical still. With the large open areas RF spamming could be quite a good tactic, but FS predticted this and used a minimum of RF ammo. One of the only real problems this level has is the RTS zone near the top, a user could camp there and just replenish himself with the full energy carrot right there. In general I like this unconventional level just as much as I like coffee. (YAY FOR BAD PUNS)

Downloaded it, it’s a relatively small CTF level, with a somewhat cavelike layout, the eyecandy inside the walls is good, but abit repetitive, and the background could really use eyecandy, I understand the tileset is tough and small, but there has to be something more interesting then endless repeating brown diamond shapes. As for the gameplay it really suffers from the tileset’s poor masking, you frequently get stuck on walls and corners. The bases are places symetricaly at the top, with all the power ups at the bottom. The problem with the powerups is that to get the RF you need the bouncer PU, and to get the bouncer PU you need bouncers, which isn’t very practical in a heated battle. All in all, it isn’t the best level out there, but you indeed should continue and perhaps plan the layout more in depth next time.

If you gave this tileset 8.5 I belive you have very low standards.

So… The review. (I wasn’t going to complain and then not leave a review myself. ;D)

This is a tileset that can be found in many tilesets, (mostly first tilesets) some bricks of rather poor quality. Why are they poor quality? Because they’re texture less, and they don’t tile vertically properly. Eragon might want tot consider making all of the bricks the same size to increase realism, also doing more then just a few brush-strokes of work on the bricks. The tileset contains some three tiles that can be used for background bricks. They do contrast the color of the normal bricks, but you should probably try to make the mortar (stuff holding the bricks together) more apparent, as I had to put my face a few inches from my screen to see it. There are windows, shutters, and some unidentifiable yellow stuff. That is the tileset. Except of course if you count the 290 tiles of ‘eyecandy’ which is actually an image of a city that was obviously copy and pasted from a photo.

Now for the level.

When rating tilesets, the level is not included in the rating, the level is just to give the reviewer an idea of how the tileset can be used.
Just a note, Don’t password levels like this, it’s too much work for the reviewer, and I ended up having to hack the password away to view the level. The reason people password levels anymore is beyond me.

All in all, this tileset is very much like many peoples first tilesets. You might want to consider making another one, with a more distinct theme and more time spent, with more actual tiles to use.

Just so you know, Normal RFs and Powered up RFs give the exact same amount of speed/power/whatever when bouncing off walls with them, the explosions apply force to your rabbit, but the force of them does not combine so more explosions is still the same amount of force.

Black is only transparent if it is in the first palette entry, the purple color is also transparent if put in the second palette entry. The size of a tileset is 320 pixels wide and a multiple of 32 pixels (under 3264 pixels for 1.23 and 13056 pixels for 1.24(TSF)). Just in case someone doesn’t want to use that ‘template’ (which would be most people?) they can just use common sense and follow the instructions JCS help gives.

I’m taking a small break from my Wii as I do this review so it may be abit short.

Diabolical Darkness (CTF)

Eyecandy
Average eyecandy that was placed well throughout the level and wasn’t very squared off, lighting effects too. The level could have used abit more eyecandy though especially near the bottom corners and the areas near them where there was a rather large lack of it.

Gameplay/Layout
It was good flow with no real large obstructions or annoying little nooks to get stuck in, It was slightly too smooth though because you could get from one base to another holding down just one arrow key. There was also another way to get to the bases with the copter, I like to see things like that. The two bottom corners are abit empty though.

Event Placement
There was nothing wrong with the ammo placement, good amount of ammo and it was in the path that people would normaly take. Although some of the clusters of ammo could be abit more dense like the RF and seeker ones near the middle of the level just above the carrot. The two non neutral powerups (seekers and RF’s) were placed rather nicely allowing one to jump off them if stomped back to the left or right, or stomp and then return to the base via warp. As for the carrots, they were
rather close, and you could collect one of the +1’s then the full NRG.

Trouble Ahead (CTF)

Eyecandy
Good amounts of eyecandy evenly throughout the level, the eyecandy wasn’t squared off, and it wasn’t in such huge heaping amounts you could never see anything. This level had something I really don’t like to see in the eyecandy though, A dark fade color (Black to be exact) on a light textured background, other than that the eyecandy was good all around.

Gameplay/Flow
Like xlmdd this level is symetrical. Unlike xlmdd the flow was good without being too easy. The layout was abit confusing at first but it was easy to learn. I found a few good tricks for this level too like RF climbing to get the +1 carrots, or shooting them down through the wall with bouncers.

Event Placement
The event placement in Trouble ahead was fine, nothing really to complain about. The density on the clusters was good, and there were good enough quantities. My only complaint is that there weren’t many RF’s near the top.

The light returns (CTF)

Looks like a level with noka’s tube electric conversion, it also looks like you took advantage of the new features in the tileset. Adverage eyecandy everywhere, but the ground could defiantly use some more variation.

Gameplay/Flow
Yet again symetrical. This one has very good flow, its not too easy either. There are warps to the bases from the top which are quite handy, and the triggered base system prevents very easy scoring. One thing that bothered me though was that the two sucker tubes that went from the top to the middle were abit slow.

Event Placement
Nothing to complain about. Nothing useless and it all had a good density and quantity. Both carrots were in the middle, so because it was a symetrical level it was very fair. The problem with the placement of the full NRG carrot was that it was very close to the seeker power up, which was also the all around weapon of the level.

Hypergenerated Shocks (Battle)

Eyecandy
This level’s eyecandy isn’t like the other levels, it is rather random. There are sufficient amounts of eyecandy, but just clustered up in the floor mostly so it isn’t that even. There are a few tilebugs, nothing to serious though. One of the things I disliked about this level’s eyecandy was that you could rarely see the textured background.

Gameplay/Flow
The layout at first seems very random, and it is, but this isn’t a problem because it works anyways. The flow isn’t an issue either it’s easy to navigate without being effortless. It isn’t very platformmy either.

Event Placement
The carrot placement is good, the +1’s aren’t too close together and are rather hard to camp. The power up placement is good too although the toaster power up is rather close to a carrot. As for ammo there could be abit more throughout the level but it’s not such a big problem.

More of a minimalist with the eyecandy in this level, this doesn’t really bug me though because there is still enough. The eyecandy isn’t all clumped either which is a good thing, especially if you aren’t going to have vast amounts of it.

Gameplay/Flow
The flow is good, but it suffers from the same problem that xlmdd did, it was a tad too easy to get around the level. The gameplay was nice, but it was very easy to seeker/rf spam because of all of the open space.

The quantity of ammo in this level was insufficient for the size of it, the clusters of ammo could have also been bigger. I’m not sure if it was just me, but there was about the same amount of food as ammo. Although the ammo placement wasn’t that great the PU placement was rather nice. They aren’t too close to anything else like PU’s or carrots. The carrots were also well off, they wern’t easily campable.

I dont have much time, so expect sort of a short review.

Gameplay
The level has a somewhat interesting layout, the flow isn’t all that bad either, the springs put you more or less where you want to go. Although there are some rather questionable features such as the coin warp, because it is so easy to get to your base from the location of the warp you might as well not use it, they will take around the same time.

The eyecandy itself was fine, but there wasn’t quite enough of it, and that made the larger more open areas seem very empty and I must agree with cooba the palette animation wasn’t exactly helping.

Event Placement
The event placment in the level was rather nice, not too much ammo not too little. the full NRG carrot adds a reason to go to the bottom, and it’s placement in the pit like nblast does help. The choice of powerups is rather good too. The traditional seeker power up, but you also have a bouncer and RF powerup, the bouncers are very good for the underground sections while the RF’s are nice in the more open parts of the level.

A-hoy hoy, because no one reviewed this, it is time for me to review it. Event/Ammo placment is rather non applicable, because it is street fight so I just won’t do it.

Ilegal Blood Factory

Eyecandy
The eyecandy was done extremely nicely, you’re not just in some factory, you really make it seem like your in an industrialised zone inside a rundown factory.

This level is rather large for an adverage streetfight, or adverage amount of people, but it should be rather nice with more than 14 people. Other than that, it is well done, Although there are some places where it’s sort of hard to get up, it isn’t too serious though.

Well, this level really doesn’t have much eyecandy. Although, it does look like you are in a glacier sort of.

Looks splendid, and it looks rather blue unlike alot of Windstorm fortress levels i’ve seen, And it even comes with ruins and lightning.

Whee, Well it is very different, and it keeps changing colors, it looks very cool. The background also looks pretty good.

It does look rather nice, it has waterfalls, and it looks nice the way you textured the eyecandy on what i’ll assume to be layer 6.

Looks rather nice, and I see you did pretty much all the eyecandy that the tileset would let you do.

This level kind of reminded me of the older street fight levels, it is small and it is sort of cramped, it is fun though.

This level looks really good, it has a stary sky instead of your plain old standard labrat eyecandy, and there isn’t too much or too little eyecandy.

Sort of liniar, but it is pretty nice, it Isn’t too flat either, the flow is pretty good too.

Eyecandy
The eyecandy in this level is pretty cool, there are even large glowing X’s in the background. Also, there is a large amount of eyecandy on layer 4 just like in the death facility.

Gameplay
This has excelent gameplay, it not only has good flow, but it is perfect for street fight, it is also quite easy to get a suger rush, witch is always useful in street fight.

A-hoy hoy, Now for my review of softcake stew.
Eyecandy
This level falls short in the eyecandy category, There is background and a few buildings, but thats it. Indoors away from the empty background we have more eyecandy, at least more eyecandy then outside, Infact it looks rather nice insde, But without good eyecandy everywhere it won’t look all too splended. Some places though it is hard to tell what is solid and what isn’t though, it can get kind of annoying.
You could have probably added another layer of eyecandy outside if you didn’t use layer 6 as a support layer for layer 4.

Gameplay
The gameplay here is better then the eyecandy. The flow may be abit rough here and there, but it would be rather splendid for a smaller amount of people like 4 or 6. It is too easy to RF spam up at the top, and it is abit hard to get into the base from the top, But I still think its fun at the bottom.
Maybe you should have done more obstacles on the top.

Event Placement
The carrot placment is pretty good, you can get it from the bottom and top, and its fun to shoot it all the way down, As for power ups, the seeker power up probably generates a camping zone because it is right there in the open, its a seeker power up, but its hard to hit somone standing in a hole, to the contrary the other power ups are semi uncampable, but they are abit hard to find. As for ammo, there isn’t enough.
Try keeping thing easy to find.

The dismal Palace

Eyecandy
Nothing to complain about here, It is honestly one of my favorate parts about the level, especialy because it is not just your plain old standard garden variety castle eyecandy, instead we have a very nice looking castle that isn’t overcrowded and has an eerie feel with a grayish background, splendid job with the eyecandy.

Gameplay
The flow is nicely done in this level, and you can get from place to place pretty easily. Warps and sucker tubes just help the flow even more and make it better, But I could never find out how to warp to the bouncer power up unless that is just eyecandy, anyways good job with that. The only problem with the Gameplay in this level is that it gets sort of linier down at the bottom of the level.

Event placement
The carrot placement in this level is pretty much perfect, For the ammo there is abit much, and some places have lots of ammo yet others have even more ammo. As for powerups, good job really.

Cursed Leaves

Eyecandy
The eyecandy leaves a great first impression, it is almost perfect, really, But in certain spots there is a little conflict inbetween style and functionality, sometimes it gets a little hard to see anything with all those leaves, and the lightning just iritates my eyes, it is far to fast. Other then that Stunning job.

Gameplay
Here is where the level sort of hits a roadblock, It is linier in some places, and it is hard to get around verticly, but horizontaly it is incredibly easy, And sometimes you just sort of hit things.

Event placement
Carrots are placed “Okay” But some are a little hard to get, and others are just right there infront of you. As for ammo placement, You can’t really complain, it is done quite well and isn’t too clumpy. Powerup placment is also rather nice and keeps people from camping.

Layout
This is a great part about the level, it has good flow without being bland and it has multiple paths with a three tier design, also you never find yourself at a dead end, wich is a good thing for ctf levels. I especially like the base locations.

Event placment
The event placement is nice, it has ammo in the places you need it, and the placement of powerups is pretty good. The overall ammo placement helps prevent people from always being in the same place all the time. It could have been better though because all the ammo is easy to get, you don’t even have to jump a bit to get it.

Eyecandy and looks
Loads of eyecandy wich is somthing I like to see, but it wasn’t overloads so I couldn’t see the sky it was just the right amount. The background has a nice fade color to it aswell. I see you didn’t go with the “standard brick pattern” that adds a nice little touch to the level, And the layer 4 background tiles make it look more like a structure rather then some floating bricks and platforms.

Its just a drop and a bunch of text wich you cant read :P
anyways something with no efort already exists :P its called 0 effort CTF i beleive its a whole CTF where the level does all the work for you
