This is a short review for “Flag Front”.

I should agree with the review above, the placement of tiles is really repetitive, which makes the lvl blockyness.

Anyway, more important, the level does have three PU’s (bouncy and RF on both sides) and a carrot an a spot where you can easily camp it. Since there is only one passage to get from one side to the other it will be hard to get the carrot, since you can camp just in the center area.

I have to say the ammo choise is nice. RF’s and bouncies are definitely handy in this lvl with long platforms. The seeker PU is at a questionable place and you shouldn’t have put the Full NRG above it, since that area is now too important. Though this lvl lacks ammo, the shapes are just boring and it isn’t well spread either.

About those boxes, maybe you should’ve made them one-way, so seeks could get through them.. Now they seem rather useless.. You should’ve done more with the center area, the areas with the ‘hills’ .. You could climb them and shoot bouncies down, but they are still dead ends, just like the base-areas.

About the eyecandy. I know this tileset isn’t really easy, but you could’ve done much better. Especially layer 5 is way too repetitive, with those grey stones covering the whole level. Open spots would’ve been nice, since then you might have seen some layer 6/7 ;) .. Layer 3 is uhhh, okay, I guess. Size is okay, though you should’ve used your space better.

To end with sth positive: The placement of the springs is nice, the flow is quite good actually..

Okay, so this is a new battle level by DarkSonic,

Let’s start with the eyecandy, since it’s easy to talk about that. I especially like the background (layer 6+7). It’s predictable, but not disturbing and it fits the lvl. I see that you used layer 5 much, sometimes in some questionable ways if you ask me. Maybe you could consider the concept of “Less is more” in some areas. I noticed a big difference in quality when you compare the left side of the lvl with the right side (with the left side being much better imo). Dunno why that is, maybe it’s just about taste. The flick lights do add some special athmosphere, but I’m not sure if I like them. Oh well, at least it’s kind of original..

Let’s talk about about the gameplay now. That is definitely the strongest part of this lvl. Getting the seek PU means taking some risk, which is a big plus imo. The carrots are in some weird places, but well spread. Springs are placed fine, flow is okay.

I definitely don’t like the ammo shapes in this lvl (especially the gun 9 and toaster in the center of the lvl) and I don’t like the choise of it either (sorry, but it’s true ;P). As an ‘extra bonus’ you added some purple candy, like the level wasn’t purple/pink/red enough.. You maybe could’ve used the goodies/ammo as some extra eyecandy, since this tileset is really red and some extra colour wouldn’t have hurt the lvl.

The level is 110×70 tiles, but it feels really tiny. That is probably because you used huge platforms, which automatically – at least in this lvl – causes less passages.

Overall the lvl looks a bit, how should I say this.. chaotic, since most things look randomly placed. But the positive thing is that I’m sure it will play fine in some public server.

This is a nice battle level by DarkSonic.

Well, to start with, the eyecandy is good. This tileset doesn’t give you many many opportunities for good eyecandy, but I think DarkSonic did a good job. When you check out the level in JCS, you see how well DS used almost all layers. Especially the background is really nice (layer 5+6).

Then about the ammo-placement. It’s good. It’s in shapes most of the time, I only don’t like the ‘row of seekers’. Anyway, the ammo is well spread over the whole level, just like the four PU’s. Seekers are important in this level, so it’s good that the PU is inside the wall. Food in a battle level is always nice and it’s easy to get in this level – you just have to run around. There are two +1 carrots, which is good because the level isn’t that big and multiple carrots in a battle level are a must.

The flow is nice, only one spring is at a weird place (91,42), which disturbs the flow a little bit, but the flow is in general really smooth. You can move really fast in this level by using the warp, the copter and the many (often) well placed springs.

Well, I definitely give this level a download recommendation. And indeed, the music (and tileset too) fits the level.

My final rating is a 8! Good job.

This is one of my favourite tileset. It’s really detailled, especially the (dark-brown) walls at the background. I don’t like the part where you can shoot ammo ‘under the bridges’. An other negative thing is the lack of ‘different’ eyecandy. You can’t really give much nice eyecandy, except for the rocks etc. at layer 4. It’s really easy to use – which is a positive thing obviously.

Definitely a download recommendation.

Okay, well, let’s review this level by Emperor. About the eyecandy, it’s decent, but that isn’t bad since the tileset is a bit limited in my opinion. The tubes in the level are really nice, some tubes aren’t that good for the flow maybe, but they aren’t disturbing at all, better – I really like them in this level. With them you can move really fast trough the level. The ammo placement is really, really well. It’s in shapes, (most of the time) not mixed and balanced. The PU’s (especially the Seeker and the Toaster) are close to eachother, but that isn’t disturbing, since that counts for both teams. A negative thing is that there is only one Full NRG, so there will be camped a lot in this level probably. Some places are maybe a bit hard to reach, especially with Jazz, since the level is kinda platformy, so that’s one of the few negative things in this level. Though I really like the layout, it’s origininal – doesn’t really look like the standard levels.

Since my first rating was cleared, I will try it again now.

The first thing I noticed was the tileset. It hasn’t been used much, so that’s a positive thing. The eyecandy is decent, maybe even good, though that isn’t too hard with this tileset. I like especially the background – it fits the level (and sometimes the foreground). He used all layers really well.

It’s nice that this level has three carrots, it avoids camping. The warp targets are at good places, so they aren’t that campable. I don’t like the ‘hook-warp’. When I tried the level out, I got many times warped by accident. That brings me to the bases. Especially the right base is at a questionable place. It’s harder to reach and when you’re at that base, your moves will be very predictable for the opponent. Actually, the same counts (maybe a bit less) for the other base.

Well, the ammo fits the level. The placement isn’t really good, or at least – I don’t like it. You just pick it up when you’re running around – which isn’t a positive thing imo – shapes would have been better. On the other side is the PU-placement really well, so good job for that.

The level isn’t that big, but it definitely feels so. I don’t like the combination of all the platforms combined with the large open spaces (too large imo). The flow is well, you can walk properly at all places.

I won’t give a download recommendation, just because I’m a bit indifferent about this level. It’s a level that’s nice to play once in a while probably, so well, you might have a look and maybe you like it.
