As DanX said in his review of my Battleships 2 level…
“Two words: Too small.”
There are 3 teeny weeny levels here with good eyecandy, and decent ammo placement. They’re not bad or anything, but they’re really small. When you make levels, make them bigger, and spend a long time on them.

Here’s a good average rating.
Merry Christmas.

This level isn’t bad at all, but it’s not all THAT good. But it’s pretty cool. There isn’t great eyecandy, but it’s acceptable. Not too bad. The weapons placement is rather bad, but the level is so-so. +.2 for using your own tileset.

I was in a rather bad mood when I reviewed this, and I rated it a little too low.

Here’s the real rating.

This isn’t too good, but since it’s your first level and all, I’ll rate easier. My first levels were this quality, so don’t feel bad. This is just a room with a bunch of platforms sticking out of the walls with powerups in them. The eyecandy is also rather bad.

I would’ve given this a 2.0, but I’ll go easy on ya and say 3.5. This level was probably made in 10 minutes, and you should never do so – all good levels take at least a day if you are fast. My levels normally take me 2 days of work, and I work just about all day on them, if I’m not in school. The good levels, like by Evil Mike, etc., are made in hours, and hours of work. I remember one of Evil Mike’s levels took him 36 hours spread across a whole month. So, spend a little more time, and try again.[This review has been edited by labratkid]

This tileset is better than a lot of tilesets made with paint. It actually shows effort. 5.0 is a good rating (see the first review) but 2.5 is a little too low for this, considering it shows effort.

Graphics…
Pros
1.) Nice colors.
2.) The brick tiles look kind of nice.
3.) The rocks with arrows look nice.
4.) The sign doesn’t look half bad.
Cons
1.) Made with paint.
2.) Simple, textureless tiles, no real background except for a solid, ugly dark green tile.
3.) Other stuff.
4.) If you choose to use that green tile as the backgroud, you won’t be able to see any trees or grass, so you’re best off using the uglier purple background tile.

Animation…
Pros
1.) There is one animating tile, which is a hotel style vine. After testing it, I found that it works smoothly.
2.) There are some destructable things, like * blocks and ! blocks. There is also a sign that could be made shootable.
Cons
1.) Not much animation…
2.) You shouldn’t really make the vines like that unless it’s in a hotel. But, they are there, so it’s good.

Mask…
Pros
1.) Not a bad mask.
2.) It’s not automasked. Yipee!
3.) The trees are unmasked, except for the very top, Diamondus style.
Cons
1.) Nothing really specially here.
2.) The rock tiles are unmasked. They should’ve been masked so you could use them as a wall, don’t you think?
3.) You should’ve had the tree mask look just like the top of the regular tree, rather than redoing it, because it looks kind of funny. Nothing major here, though.

Colors…
Pros
1.) No.
Cons
1.) If you use the green background, you can’t see any trees or grass.
2.) If you choose the purple background, you can’t see any shootable blocks, or purple balls / squares.
3.) More.

Overall…
Pros
1.) Shows effort.
2.) Not terrible.
3.) Decent mask.
4.) Not auto-masked.
Cons
1.) It works with only TSF. Make all small tiles 1.23 compatible. The only reason you should EVER make a tileset 1.24 only is either because you don’t like 1.23 people for some reason, or the tileset is huge (like Mega Megatropolis, or whatever it was called… Disguise’s newest, and final tileset). That one is over 1,000 tiles, so he HAD to make it with 1.24 or else it would throw an error. This tileset is very small, so you should’ve made it with 1.23.
2.) Bad colors.
3.) Rather bad graphics.
4.) Not much animation.
5.) Made with paint.
6.) Awful looking background that makes some tiles un-seeable (is that a word? =P)
7.) More.

This isn’t really worth the download, all though it’s probably the best MS Paint tileset I’ve come across in my days on J2O and JJ2.

Great level that I played a lot on Blackraptor’s server.

EYECANDY
Pros
1.) Nice eyecandy, especially in the background layers, and in the sprite layer, too.
2.) Over all nice look to the level.
3.) Minimal bugs in the eyecandy, if any at all.
Cons
1.) Nothing really amazing, and the moving speakers look kind of funny.
2.) There is a tile mismatch in the background layer that only I could notice, with my 20-20 vision. Nobody else could see what I was pointing out, so this is not a real con.

Weapon / ammo placement…
Pros
1.) Nice weapon placement overall.
2.) Well balanced placement.
3.) The powerups aren’t in the middle of nowhere; it takes skill to get to them… for example, a bouncy powerup is in the wall, so you’ll need some electroblaster ammo to get it.
4.) There are no shields. Yipee!
Cons
1.) No cons.
2.) (no number two)

Originality…
Pros
1.) Team based routes. I’ve never seen this!
2.) A GOOD Tubelectric level. This is rare, considering the tileset is so easy to use, especially for new level makers… BR is no new level maker, though, and now I’m confusing my review readers AND myself, so this is the end of number two. The end.
Cons
1.) No cons.
2.) This is rediculous, I said NO CONS!

Music…
Pros
1.) No pros.
Cons
1.) No music.

Bugs…
Pros
1.) There aren’t too many bugs in the level.
Cons
1.) There is one place where you can get stuck in the wall. I’m too tired to find out which place it was. I’ll find that out later.
2.) I forgot what I was going to write for number two. Silly me =P

Replay / fun factor…
Pros
1.) Very fun to play.
2.) Especially fun for duels, or lots of players.
3.) You get to know the level really quick. (see cons)
Cons
1.) Boring for 2 on 2’s.
2.) You get to know the level really quick. (see pros)

Misc….
Pros
1.) Team based routes. Yahoo!
2.) It’s easy to get from base to base quickly, but it’s dangerous to follow the same quick and easy route over and over again. This makes the games interesting!
3.) Cool background…
4.) Team based routes! Yay!
Cons
1.) There’s that one spot where you can get stuck…
2.) The blockades for the team based routes that you can’t get past look kind of funny there, and a bit “out of place.”
3.) It’s extremely hard to adapt to the level after you switch teams. Than, after you adapt to using that one team, and you have to switch to the other, it gets even MORE confusing, and so on, and so forth.
4.) SOMEONE, and I’m not using any names… GORZAK… keeps roasting my guy while I’m trying to write a review. It’s also Scizor. They’re all ganging up on the idle guy. Poor me. Anyway, uhh… back to the review…

Host this often?…
Pros
1.) It’d be great to host this often, and I would, but…
Cons
2.) I can’t I can’t host because of my cable router. My firewall is built into it, so basically, if I turn off the firewall, I turn off the router, and if I turn off the router, I turn off the Internet.

Hey, that was interesting. While I was idle, Gorzak must’ve shot me with an RF missle and knock me all the way over to a supercarrot. That’s cool… :-P Now I got roasted, how rude.

Anyway, I’m just blabbering from this point on since I’m so bored.

I’ll end the review here, because I’m too bored to blabber on about how I am bored.

The end.

Everyone download this, it’s a great level.

Hey, what do you know, the server just shut down. Perfect timing, eh?

Great tileset.
Pros
It’s huge!
Nice looking.
Cons
It’s huge!
Not too much animation.

You should make another version that takes out some of the more “unneccasary” tiles so you can make a 1.23 version. I’d make levels with this, but I’d have to make them 1.24… and therefore, not many people would download them, and I’d get all messed up because the versions would confuse eachother and throw all kinds of mean errors.

Edit: After staring at this for about 20 minutes, drooling with amazement, I’m going to have to raise my rating to 9.5.

First level…
Pros
1.) Pretty big
2.) Good enemy placement
3.) Good ammo placement
4.) A boss
5.) Skill settings
6.) Fun to play
7.) Pretty good eyecandy
Cons
1.) Very easy
2.) Too many powerups (there are two bouncy powerups and a freezer powerup)
3.) Too much freezer ammo. Freezer weapons suck. =P
4.) A few eyecandy bugs here and there.
5.) Not much food, if any at all.
6.) Too many blue and green gems. You should make these very rare in your levels.

Second level…
Pros
1.) Good eyecandy in the sprite layer.
2.) Harder.
3.) Food.
4.) Good enemy placement.
5.) Good ammo placement.
6.) Fun to play.
7.) Average sized.
8.) You put the shield in such a way that you have to go through speed blocks while you have it, and on the other side of the speed blocks, there are enemies. It’s all most impossible not to take damage while you go through them!
Cons
1.) Food is not in your path. In other words, you have to go out of your way to get food.
2.) Jazz can not reach the first super carrot, and at that point in the level, you’ll probably need one badly.
3.) You will probably have a lot of shield time left by the time you fight the boss. Probably at least 15 seconds, maybe 20 or 25, considering how much damage you took, and how fast you were. You can beat the boss in about 5 seconds with the shield.
4.) Bad background eyecandy. You’ll see what I mean.
5.) One of the sucker tube tiles lacks a translucent setting, so it looks funny. You can see this at the very beginning of the level.

The third level…
Pros
1.) Good food placement.
2.) Good ammo placement.
3.) Good enemy placement.
4.) Long.
5.) Good sprite layer eyecandy.
6.) Other stuff that I’m too lazy to note.
Cons
1.) Bad background eyecandy.
2.) Bad foreground eyecandy.
3.) Food is scarce.
4.) Not many gems.

The forth level…
Pros
1.) Good eyecandy, considering the author has bad eyesight.
2.) Better food placement.
3.) Better enemy placement.
4.) Better ammo placement.
5.) Long.

Cons
1.) Very bad background eyecandy.
2.) Rather bad foreground eyecandy.

The fifth level…
Pros
1.) Good sprite layer eyecandy.
2.) Good background eyecandy.
3.) Good ammo placement.
4.) Good enemy placement.
5.) Good food placement.
6.) Long.
Cons
1.) Some bad eyecandy.
2.) Easy, again.
3.) One of the warps isn’t in your path. You have to jump up half a tile to get to it.
4.) Too many hatters.
5.) Spaz biased.

The sixth level…
Pros
1.) Lots of monkeys and dragonflies, yay.
2.) Unique.
3.) Big.
4.) Fun.
5.) Lots of weapons.
6.) Very hard. (see cons)
7.) Some good sprite layer eyecandy.
8.) The textured background is rather nice looking.
Cons
1.) No background eyecandy.
2.) No foreground eyecandy.
3.) Not many monkeys that walk. Too many stand monkeys.
4.) Very hard. (see pros)
5.) Fun to play.
6.) A lot of bad sprite layer eyecandy.

The seventh level…
Pros
1.) Long.
2.) A witch is here. Not many levels have witches.
3.) Good eyecandy.
4.) Good ammo placement.
5.) Good enemy placement.
6.) Fun to play.
7.) Sort of easy, sort of hard.
Cons
1.) You can get stuck in some places as a frog if you don’t go directly to Eva.
2.) Some bad eyecandy here and there.
3.) Uses an overused tileset.
4.) Sort of easy, sort of hard.

The last level…
Pros
1.) Uses Medivo, instead of D*mn.
2.) You remembered to put in Devan. Yay. Okay, nobody forgets that.
Cons
1.) You are given a lot of stuff at the beginning, like it’s your birthday or something.
2.) Devan climbs inside the wall, than dissapears. Than the game crashes. At least that happened to me.
3.) You forgot a tile in the wall, to the right. It looks really ugly.
4.) Short. Many last levels are extremely long, like the one in Blade’s Energized Action pack.

Good pack, you’re a foo not to download it. =P[This review has been edited by labratkid]

This version is just as bad as the other. The coins don’t regenerate, so it’s impossible to get into more than one room. If you do get into the HH only room, there are a bunch of powerups. The room was made so people would want to join HH just to see what was in it. Anway, the new thing is a very badly designed battle room. A rectangular room with a bunch of airboards.

I see what you are doing… you’re releasing a pack level by level. Well, you shouldn’t do this, just to tell you. You should make all the levels you want in this “episode” and than release them all at once. Level packs generally get rated higher and downloaded more if you release all the levels at once, trust me on this. Are you making each one of these levels in one day? It sure seems like it, but they’re too good to be made in one day. Anyway.. the item and enemy placement was good in this level, and the eyecandy was a lot better than in your other levels, too. Keep up the good work, and you should just release the whole pack at once, like I said.

Wow. Here’s something very new. If only more levels could be like this.

Eyecandy: Very good
The eyecandy is great. Very interesting. There are birds that fly by, good layer adjustment, nice background… nothing to complain about here.

Gameplay: Good
Gameplay is good. It’s easy to get around the level, but the level is very small… but since it’s meant for 3 on 3’s, it’s okay.

Bugs: N/A
Well, there is a bug. If you are on the red team (the bad guys), and if you select the bouncy bullet warrior guy, than you teleport right to the enemy flag as a starting position. This is a bug, I guess. But this is the only bug I found.

Ammo placement: Very good
Ammo placement is well balanced, and there doesn’t need to be much ammo, because each class starts out with ammo.

Everything else: Very good.
Very good. I don’t wanna write a long review, but this is really good, and I hope Trafton rights one of his super-mega reviews, because this is the kind of level that deserves one.

Now, most level makers would agree with me that Inferno is the single most hardest tileset to work with when it comes to eyecandy. In fact, all of them probably agree with me. Those who don’t agree with me, are, as Michael Jackson would put it, just ignorant. Now, the author, as you might know, has awful vision, so the eyecandy will obviously be bad. When somebody with bad vision picks a tileset that is hard for me to make good eyecandy with (I have 20, 20 vision), the eyecandy can lead to a major disaster. All though the eyecandy wasn’t as bad as I thought, a lot of it is awful. Now, when you shoot the frozen blocks, for some reason, there is a peice of terrain there for every one you shoot… it doesn’t even seem like it’s supposed to be there. I don’t know what’s going on there. The level had excelent gameplay, like the author’s other fine levels, and the enemy placement and ammo placement was well balanced. Like I said when I rated another one of this guy’s levels, you really can’t blame the bad eyecandy on him since when I squint my eyes really hard the level looks perfect. But I’m going to take off 0.5 points for this one just because the eyecandy was exceptionally bad, and because of the funny tile that shows up behind the frozen blocks when you thaw them. Guys, please review his levels. They are really good. Most people don’t like to review levels made by people who are new to Jazz Jackrabbit 2, but you should give them a chance. Especially this guy, who is better than most oldbies.

Hmm. I suppose I shouldn’t rate on eyecandy because of your vision, but there weren’t too many eyecandy bugs. If I try squinting really hard while I play, making it seem like I have bad vision, they eye candy looks perfect, so it’s not the author’s fault. But, this is a great level. Everyone should download it =)
