Actually a really nice set to roam around in. Very clean, very slick. The only thing I could find real fault with it is that it can be hard to know what is masked and what isn’t with inconsistent use of letters.

I’d like those music notes from Scription v1 back, please.

What an idea! I would never except that it looks fine! It needs event generated things however because it would look dull.

This tileset is good. Creative, pretty, alphabetic :), etc.

But black tileset is better than white tileset. :)

Anyway, i liked it and i used it.

I’m no good at reviewing, so I’ll keep it short. This level does NOT deserve a 6.0. It is quite beautiful

Well eh, FOX282;
There isn’t a layer eight, since everything is allready on a background, so a background has no function here…

And I wouldn’t know something about that ‘acces violation’. It must work, so the files aren’t the problem ;)

What the heck…

7.5?

Look at the masking. This was probley copied from the video game. This does NOT deserver a 7.5.

More like a 5.2 or something in my opinion.

Nice job! I have to say that the tileset looks really hard to use, but yeah, you can get a great end result with it.

The graphics are ripped from the game, (as far as I can tell) but it manages to look like it has some sort of order, which is good (especially when dealing with these angles). I think that must have been pretty hard.

Overall, a good tileset, but you should only get it if you’re willing to take the time to get things right.

Good job!

(NOTE: You should rename the level so JJ2 can understand it.)

SCRIPTION

I quite like this set. The masking is not that great though. The tileset is quite big, there are lots of tiles to use. It is missing some of the important basic JJ2 stuff though, including text signs, destruct and buttstomp scenery blocks (* & !). The backgrounds look good. There are 2 different versions of this set; Black and White.
I would find this quite hard to use though. I wouldn’t know where to start.
Now, for a rating, I’m gonna give this a 6.5 as it’s a pretty good set but it’s hard to use and the masking isn’t really that great.

RATING: 6.5

RANK: D – OK

DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATION?

Normally I would only say yes for anything that got 7 or more but I think it’s worth a look as it is a great concept.

I’d reccomend taking the “(2)” away from the white set’s filename, to avoid in-game download troubles.

I haven’t written a review in a long time. And this time it’s gonna be a (kind of) long one.
*Eyecandy:*
I liked the eyecandy alot.I liked the way you mixed up the colors of the goodies in the secret area. They looked beautiful.
I also liked the vines in the backgrounds, and how you made Jazz be able to hang on them. I liked the backgrounds in the caves, too. The way you put the cabbage in the trees was also pretty orriginal and looked cool.
*Playability:*
There was a minor error in the gameplay. The second time (I think it was) I played this level I got stuck somewhere. I can’t remember where, but I got warped into some solid place. That is avoidable. Just don’t put warp targets near a wall.
I liked the idea of the secret area giving you the last of the 50 coins needed for the warp.
Summary
Good part
As Cooba said, this is a good example of how a good SP level should look.
Downside
The second time, I got stuck in some area, and had to restart. Oh well.
Overall
I also think this is a good level, and that you should try it out. Have fun!

Visual Appeal – 4 out of 5

Yay, I liked this one a lot ;D. This level certainly has a good amount of eyecandy. The plants, which are often neglected, are used widely here and give the level a nice feel. There are some original things made with the plants, such as the singular vines, which are also nice. The background is nice (albeit taken from the official JJ2 levels?) and there’s enough stuff to keep it alive in the foreground. There weren’t really any outstanding bugs in the tileset use, nor any bad eyecandy ideas.

My only gripe here is that more could be done with the background. You could have experimented with the textured background fades (which work only in 16-bit mode, by the way). You also could have put different tiles on the layers than just take them off the official levels. Anyway, that’s pretty much my only complaint, as this is very good use of the Carrotus tileset.

Playability – 4 out of 5

I also like the way this level plays. This level’s definite plus is that the level’s main path forks into two, and the player is supposed to choose the way. Not really an original concept, but it’s always nice and the newer levelmakers tend to neglect that design feature. It’s easy to backtrack once a way ends and take up with the another one, which is also good. This level is also full of random pickups and secrets, which is an important thing in a SP level. I really like the biggest secret in the level, which is kind of tricky to access, but is certainly rewarding. (I’m not going to spoil it though, download the level and play it yourself).

However, this level also has a bit of problems. The main one is that it’s a bit easier to play this level with Spaz (the so-called Spaz bias). Like, there’s this place where the player needs to crash a crate to access coins by jumping from a platform. However, Spaz can get to the coins just by using his double jump. It’s also easier for Spaz to get back to the upper road if the player is coming back from the lower road.

Other than that, there are no real bugs which could destroy the gameplay (maybe except for the secret warp target with ID 143, the player gets stuck in the wall if he warps), and the gameplay itself is solid.

Summary
  • Decent eyecandy
  • A fine example of how a SP level should look
  • Could use a little more original eyecandy
  • As well as some polish to the gameplay

Overall
As you can see, I did enjoy this level because it’s how a real JJ2 SP level should look like, in my opinion at least. If I like it, why shouldn’t you?

I am not entierly convinced that this is your first tileset. It’s a bit too good to be your first tileset.

EYECANDY- The pencils had some 3D shading in them. The tileset was very detailed with all the desk items and paint sploges. However, the best piece of eyecandy that I saw in this tilset were the animating clouds. The blue lining gave them real effect. But, the tiles didn’t really fit together very well.8/10.

PALETTE- I’m sure other people have said this to you but the palette didn’t have enough variety. You could have added more colours to the JJ2 pallete. You did try though.5/10.

DIFFICULTY- The tileset was fairly easy to use but the idea of pencils for walls looked a bit average.(The HURT on the end of the pencils was cool).7/10.

USUABILITY- The MASK was a bit strange and hard to use. Also, the levels that you can make with this tileset don’t look professional.5/10.

25/40= The final score for your tileset is 6.3.

P.S: Because this is your first tileset, I’m going to add an extra 0.1 for effort.

I hope you find this review helpful towards your future tilesets.
