Since White Rabbit slightly overrated this level in my opinion, i shall post MY view.

Christmas Blast
CraccoBoy has made a new CTF level, from which he says it has three purposes (Christmas server, contest and a CTF to host) so let’s check if the second purpose fulfils it’s destiny: winning this contest. Let’s go.

EYECANDY: 1.1 out of 2.0
For this level, mr. CraccoBoy used his own tileset called “Cracco Christmas” or something. Since I don’t really like this tileset, it gets hard for me to give a good view about the eyecandy. I’ll try, however. I like the coloured flags and names and something, but some places in the level seem a little bit too empty and plain. Not really good. This seems to be more of a tileset problem, but it’s hard to avoid. You should have used the standard chirstmas tileset or something; it would be even illegal to use your own set in the beginning but the rules changed. Whatever.

AMMO: 1.3 out of 2.0
As I wander through this level, I’ve noticed five kinds of ammo (Seeker, Toaster, Electroblaster, Bouncie and RF) and two Powerups (Seeker and Toaster). There is one Full NRG carrot which seems to be enough for a level of this size. I don’t really like the ammo placement, but it’s decent.

LEVEL STRUCTURE: 0.8 out of 1.5
On with the structure. There seem to be some problems with this structure and it’s really funny: DarkSonic uploaded a battle level with a CTF structure and CraccoBoy uploaded a CTF level with a Battle Structure! The flow is not really bad, but it would have fit better by a battle level though. Some places are weird, like the part in the right where you have to jump up – it seems like there are some vines to hang on but there aren’t. Hmm.

GAMEPLAY: 1.2 out of 2.5
To compare your level with DarkSonic’s level, I liked the gameplay of DarkSonic’s level more. The navigation in this level is a bit hard, there isn’t really a nice flow and the eyecandy gets bored after a while. The music file used is OK, but nothing special.

ORIGINALITY: 0.5 out of 2.0
Now on with the crucial factor: originality. I wonder what the author’s opinion is about the originality in this level, since I can’t see anything of it. DarkSonic and Satan had at least some original factors in their levels, but here I can see really nothing here, or it has to be one if the first CTF levels with a battle layout. I’ll give you 0.5 points for originality, and I’m generous with that.

RATINGS:
If the original factor didn’t count this level would probably score a decent rating, but now, it’s a little bit under average. Same comment as with DarkSonic: perhaps this should have been a battle level, but I’m not sure. For now, the only thing I can give for this is a lousy 4.9. You got served.
Score: 1.1 + 1.3 + 0.8 + 1.2 + 0.5 = 4.9

Host: No.

Christmas Blast, by CraccoBoy. Yay! Merry Christmas!

This is a small CTF lvl using Craccoby’s own tileset, Santa’s Snowy Zone. I have the old version of the tileset but the new version has quite a funny palette, making everything look different. Green is red, apparently, and most colours have been darkened or changed slightly, which makes the whole lvl look very goofy, not to mention the fact that green RFs are red so I thought I was shooting powered up Rfs.

The eyecandy is as good as the tileset allows, though not many foreground tiles exist in the lvl. The mountains and forests are well-placed and there is a very obvious Christmas atmosphere in the lvl. Comfy. The eyecandy varies and you’ll be able to travel from snow to rocky ground and encounter lots of nice, Christmasy stuff, but it’s just that some walls are very thick, and you it’s a waste to keep them empty. It would look better if there are some foreground tiles in them to make the whole place look a bit…wilder and more natural, rather than just a big snow platform.

The gameplay is ok, with some Jazz-unfriendly areas (there are not enough springs in the lvl and Jazz has a lot of trouble moving around because of this). The springs that do exist are well-placed and so are all of the platforms, vines, etc. I’ve noticed a couple of masking problems with the tileset, which slows down the flow, but it’s no big deal. It’s also annoying that the bases are in dead ends and Jazz is forced to go into the dead end and jump out again because he, lacking doublejump, cannot just directly to the platform above or on the side of the base.

Weapons placement is actually really good. You never have to work hard to get ammo and the power-ups seem nicely balanced. There is an abundance of ammo, but it’s not over-done, so you’ll always have enough seekers to blast your enemies to smithereens.

It’s a shame that this lvl is a bit small. 140×80 would suit the kind of gameplay and ammo placement Santa’s Snowy Zone has. It’s still a good lvl, however.

Er…since this lvl isn’t that original actually and what distinguishes this lvl from the rest is:
1. Weird palette.
2. Very good weapons placement.
And that’s it.

Still, a fun lvl to play and some excellent camping spots. >:-D

Oh I don’t even put passwords on them, I always “save as” when I make a new level so they’re probably using passwords from the 1999 or 2000 levels, which I don’t even know myself.

(Apparently illegal software removal? I guess. If it’s not illegal, at least it’s not very nice to hack into passworded levels without getting the permission of the level makers. ~Violet)

I’ll make a quite short review.
Although Craccoboy’s uploads almost never are the kind I like (Ballon races, for example, were far too hard) I really liked this levelpack. I didn’t see any enemies or pickups (but I didn’t really finish level 5)and there were no bosses, but somehow the levels managed to be funny anyways. The point was always to find five hidden things.
I didn’t really like the last level, but it doesn’t drop the rating because I still managed to complete all tests i tried, except the choose-your-warp-thingie which I thought was boring.
Download if you want to play something new or just do it anyway.

Sorry to ruin the rating of this, but I don’t think it should be rated this high.

Concept of this level is a bit strange. Not sure Im fond of the covered up layer 3 passages and stuff. Otherwise it’s alright.

Eyecandy and tile placement could be a lot better. Mostly the fault of the tileset.

Layout of the level is unusual. As I mentioned before I don’t really like the hidden stuff, and the warps in the defender room could’ve been assorted by how far away the target is (i.e first comes the warp thats closest to the attacker base, last comes the warp thats closest to the giant gems).

I haven’t really gotten to play this much, so I can’t really rate it accurately yet. I’ll keep this here for now and edit it when more people join server so I get to play this more thoroughly. Current rating suspected to be around a 7. Maybe higher if I’m nice/have a good experience when I play this again.

I like Single Player, so here’s my review about this one:

LEVEL DESIGN
The level design is not like in normal single player levels. The concept is, that you find 5 keys and then go to a cave where maybe a treasure is hidden. This concept is not new, but it’s something other than simply “Find the exit, or I’ll eat you” levels.

SCORE: 7.0

EYECANDY
Eyecandy is ok, but nothing really special. The level has no tilebugs, and I don’t understand why Olsen thinks the texture on layer 8 doesn’t work, because for me it worked fine. The level could use more background layers, and I guess you can make much better eyecandy with the tileset Cracco used. I’ve seen worse, tough.

SCORE: 6.5

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is very well, tough the level has some things I don’t like. First is the water, it’s not really logic that if you jump into the water you can walk in it (because the water is on layer 5 and Cracco didn’t use the water event). The second thing is the big jump, which I didn’t manage to do with Spaz because of a masking error. After several tries I had to switch to Jazz. >:(
I also think, if there is a part which you should do with Spaz, and not with Jazz there simply should be buttstomp blocks, made in a way that only Spaz can kick them, then a sucker tube and right after them and there’s no way to do it with Jazz.

What I like is how Cracco made the Vulcano (is that a word?). It’s made very well, so congrats for that. I wished there would be some food or stuff, but there wasn’t. Also it’s plainly easy.

SCORE: 7.0

AMMO
There was only one spot with ammo in it, a cave “under” water, but you won’t need more and it’s regenerating for no reason. :P

SCORE: 6.7

BADDIES
There are very few enemies, not many tough. I think there should be more, to make the level harder. Also, Cracco, trust me, fish do not work without the water event. :P

SCORE: 5.0

HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
There aren’t any hurt events, but lotsa other obstacles, mostly some jumping passages. They could be harder, I think. Also, there’s still the mistake with the jump, that you should do with Spaz, if you don’t wanna be a lamer, but that’s impossible with Spaz.

SCORE: 6.2

TILESET
I like the tileset. Don’t get mad, please, but I will now break up this review and make a level with the set. :P
I’ll finish the other sections later :)

USE OF TILESET

Ok, since I just woke up, Im going to keep this review relatively short.

Tropicana Bay:

This level basically has the same style as the levels in CB’s previous pack; collect a bunch of stuff and activate the trigger zones, then return to the exit. The level was alright, although it needed more eyecandy, especially in the backround layers. There were a few eyecandy bugs (61,86, you could see yourself past the layer 3). In some parts the level looked really plain, and Im not really sure how those hooks floated in midair (would’ve been better if they looked like they were attached to something, like that blue thing), and the platform just above 126,30 confuses me a bit because its suppose to be ground yet its in layer 3 so you basically have no idea its not solid until you fall through it. I really like how you did the sucker tube in the volcano along with the floatups, it basically shoots you right out of it nice and easy. On another note, instead of using the water blocks that come with your set you could’ve had actual jj2 water in the level, since the fish enemy are basically useless without it (all they do is just float there). Enemy placement is a bit too scarce (barely any enemies), and the only ammo there is are toasters and bouncers in the beginning which all regenerate. The level was also a bit too easy (I beat it twice without losing and hearts), so you could’ve made it harder and place stuff in different difficulty modes (hard, easy etc). Also, the backround looks a bit screwed up in 8 bit. Overall, Im giving this level a 7. With more eyecandy, harder difficulty(if you want it to be an easy level so new people can beat it, you could make it a lot harder if someone plays in the ‘hard’ difficulty), more pickups and a longer level, you’ll get a much better rating from me. Still a spiffy level and a download reccomendation.

Chapter 7: Tropicana Bay (Island.j2t)

Far away, there’s a tropical island in the caribbean called Tropicana Bay. The sun always shines, the coral is terrific and the nature is still intact. Yet, this island isn’t popular with tourists. Hardly a soul ever visits it… The inhabitants of the island are said to have a secret shrine hidden under the beach. Maybe there’s a treasure, or something else of great value to be found here. When pirate captain Scale and his crew went to discover the secret of the inhabitants, they never returned, and nothing has been heard about Tropicana Bay ever since…

Btw Olsen: It’s not an Assault level. It’s a Quest level. I stopped making Assault levels because barely anyone still plays that.[This review has been edited by CraccoBoy]

The idea was interesting! In each level, you have to find five items to pass the level. The level called “Save the Sheep” was interesting and not like other jj2 levels. The third level “The Head Hunter” was very very interesting! Bravo! But the other ones were a little boring. And in each level you have to collect items and after a while it becomes routine and the player doesn’t want to play no more! Also the tilesets would be better. (I don’t mean they are bad only not enough) Thanx a lot for this interesting idea.

Ok, here goes my own review (i am lucky this site doesn’t have a text limit……)

Level 1: Save the Sheep:

Let’s start with the whole storyline itself, the story was good, you start in the old farmer’s house and he asks you to get his 5 red sheep back, pretty basic levels, the music gives it a nice touch though. 7.6

Level 2: Santa’s Stolen Hats!:

This level was also good, but at the peak of the music somewhere, you can hear a bit of a Mario game song used in it, the music was ok, though, getting the hats ain’t a easy thing. Hard to find at times. 8.3

Level 3: Hank wants the 5 heads:

Good level, Jazz/Spaz came and nearly were good enough to become vampires, but to actually become ones, Hank requested them to bring back the 5 heads of the people he murdered, so Jazz/Spaz set off to get the 5 dead people’s heads. 8.5

Level 4: The Snowdust Reloaded:

I say this is nearly the best level i played in the pack, the music is real good, but rescueing the prisoners and finding the keys is hard, one thing though, rescueing the final one made me already forgot where to go. _;,….. The level is REAL nice, finding the keys is nearly as hard or harder than picking up the 5 dead heads in Level 3. 8.9

Level 5: The Casino:

Despite me being tooo lazy to finish this level, i can’t say much, this song is from FF6: The Collesium, kinda funny if you trust me. I’ll probably give this a higher score if i get around to actually finishing the level. 5.0

Rating: let’s see…… Level 1 + Level 2 = 7.0 + Level 3 = 8.4 + Level 4 + Level 5 = 9.5

This game really deserved a high rating.

Edit: Forgot to rate the Level 3… This made the rating go a bit higher though. The pack is still no prob though.[This review has been edited by Master Cheater]

Just wanted to make a short review about this, not really wanted to judge and rate.

Well, the levels are puzzle-type but all they have the same idea. Bring 5 things of some type to a person and find out exit, but they seemed to be really interesting and I really wish that you would make more of another kind of puzzle-levels. Well, stories and designs were invented well. Eyecandy suxed in some levels quite much but it had been done very well in others.
So, you did all the tilesets yourself anyways, great! That’s really original, good!
If I remember correct, the 3rd level was being hosted once in a server. The head hunter. I remember that as I didn’t solve it at the server but now as there wasn’t any other players on the way, I solved it in about 10 minutes.
I also liked quite much about other levels. There were some japanese animation-style in the 1st level. Nice music choice! I also wonder that why there were lots of ammo which had no use. No readme, doh.

I could say that this would be overally just good puzzle-solving, it takes some time but it’s interesting. Just enough long and not too hard or too easy puzzles. This would be about 8.2 in my opinion, but since I’m not sure about it because this is a puzzle-levelpack I don’t rate. Well done, and make more of these.

Ok, time to begin my second review of today. Whee argh.

Saving the Sheep: The story of this level is nothing too complicated, the farmer’s sheep have ran away and he wants you to find them. The level itself isn’t too bad nor is it too good. It could’ve used a lot more eyecandy, and some things like the pillars at 46, 31 could’ve been in layer 3 or so. The backround looks sort of boring, no auto-scroll and no bg eyecandy. Some things in the tileset look like they didnt tile much, and this level could’ve used layer 3 to make things look more realistic and better. I didn’t like the music too much at first but then I found that it fit the level pretty well imo.

Santa’s Stolen Hats: The storyline is similar to that of the previous level, someone asks you to get back something they’ve lost/been stolen. In this case, Santa has lost his “kinky” hats and wants you to find them and save christmas. The story doesn’t really relate to that of the previous level, but it’s probably not suppose to. The backround eyecandy is better in this level, there is some mountains and christmas trees aside from the red backround, but the higher you go in the level the more empty the backround seems. The eyecandy was a lot better in this level. I didn’t really like that area with the bridges since the bridges seemed a bit out of place (especially the floating vine bridge, why would there be a vine bridge, especially one that’s floating, in the north pole? O.o). Overall, despite the fact that this level had a few cons and wasn’t all that large, the concept of it gave me a good idea for my level and I found it enjoyable playing this. Music also fit, Good job!

Head Hunter: For a starting point, the place underground with the lava and the very small platforms, whenever I sidekick there some ugly line goes straight across my screen. Don’t know why it does that, and since I’m not sure if the level is at fault I can’t really subtract marks from it. And, Jun-Jie bat cave? O.o. I liked the layout and puzzles of the level, and the story of it (bring 5 heads to the vampire), althought I’ve noticed how these levels lack enemies (they’re prolly puzzle levels, but then if no enemies so far why the ammo?) Anyways, this level seemed harder to solve than the others, and I had fun playing it. Great tileset usage btw. Eyecandy was rux.

Snowdust: Reloaded: This level seemed alright, it followed the style of the others, and the snowmen were cool. Just a question, but why didn’t the large spikes in dragonus’s place have hurt events on them? The poem thing in the warp to darangus’s place was nearly impossible to read in the level because the F-Dimension text came too soon after it, a sucker with a delay could’ve helped. The red scrolling backround in the F-dimension also got on my nerves a bit..Other than that, the level was alright, I didn’t like it as much as the santa claus one or the head hunter one but it was alright.

Grand Casino: Interesting level. I had a bug in the “Sucky” part with the airboard, when I got the airboard I suddenly flew into a sucker and when it let me out things got a bit weird. Without any touch of the keyboard, jazz would slowly fly up on the airboard, and when he hit one of the blocks it looked like as if he went through them like they were one wayed (which they were), but stopped at the very last inch of the block so I had to use no wall to get out. Strange. And then after that my airboard wouldn’t let me off the ground =\. This got fixed when I got a new airboard, though. This level took me a while mostly because of the balloon part (that one was evil). It was pretty basic, you didn’t need to think much, just be good at tests and stuff and you can pass this quick.

Final ratings:
Save the Sheep: 7.5
Santa’s Stolen Hats: 8
Head Hunter: 8.3
Snowdust: Reloaded: 7.7
Grand Casino: 7.5

Overall Comments: The levels were all decent, some more than others, and I like the style of them. They could’ve used a bit more spiffying up here and there and the eyecandy could’ve been more rux, but they werent too bad and I liked them. Plus I’m also in a good mood, so I might be rating them a little higher than what I would rate them if my mood was a little lower.

Final rating is 7.8, rounded down to a 7.7, but +.03 because of the combination of good mood, rux music, fairly interesting level style, and a small semi-story in the first four levels. I feel like im overrating this a bit though, since the levels are pretty small, but for now this rating stays what it currently is. I might adjust it in the near or later future, though. Download reccomended I guess.
