I’d like to know if it’s useful to download this having Jazz 1.23 and TSF. I mean, does this really boost game experience? Or it’s just for hosting servers?

Let me take the task of common reviewer on myself while other don’t. :P

This level is very well comprimised if you take a look at the weapons. There are just enough weapons for its size.I liked the doghouses at the 2 bottom-sides, where you could warp with. The eyecandy of the background is very good, but I missed some foreground eyecandy. The flow was good over the entire level, execpt for the middle top, where there is open space.
Also, the music doesn’t really fit the level.

Gameplay: 8,5
Eyecandy: 7,5
Originality: 8

Final Grade: 8

Good job, I think you can do even better.

Good conversion!
I loved it!
is better than Epic’s D*mn tilesets, good designed, but most importantly- easy to make levels from them!
I most like the D*mn + Hot!

Download? Yes! (if you love tilesets from thet kind)

[Unsupported rating (9.5) clearance. Please provide more elaborate support for your rating. Why is it better than Epic\‘s sets? Why do you like the Hot version the most? – Cooba]

No revieuw, how sad.
Mine hasn’t got one either maybe you can now revieuw mine :P

I expected a lot of this one, because ofcource it is from my vice-jj2-divisionleader, but I shouldn’t have done that. You had some rare black and foreground titles, exept for layer 8, which was good. In layer 4 you used titles with background attached on them, instead of that, you could have better placed those titles in the background. There are some places where you can see your rabbits feet or arms between the titles, for example in the sucer tube thing at the right semi-bottom of your level. You could have used layers 3 and 5 to prevent that. There isnt really much fun of playing in the level, it is quite bold and small. But! This is your first level. This is quite good for a first one, because mine was really a lot more crap than this.

Eyecandy: 4,5

That level reminds me of the first one I ever uploaded to J2O.

WEAPONS
Just blasting around. Toaster would be more appropriate for Psych.

PICKUPS
Just some chocolate at the beginning and some other food, no gems or anything.

ENEMIES
A total of four hatters at the beginning, some annoying dragonflies, and a boss at the end.

EYECANDY & LAYERS
You just used layers 4, 7, and 8. The rain was good. The whole level looked like a storm. The position of that tree in the beginning is almost identical to my #$%&@ “Rabbit in Wonderland”. I hate the climbing area with the dragonflies, they almost killed me. And next time place some spikes on the bottom of the level, or at least make a line of warps, if a hole is necesarry.

GAMEPLAY
Nothing really. The boss isn’t really that useful in a level like that.

OTHER
At least music was good. I like the ‘broken’ bonus warp. But the level is way too short.

Final Rating: 2.5
Download Recommendation: Only for reviewing.
Final Comments: Don’t stop making levels. Always experiment with new things. There are many articles on J2O about levelmaking, check out the JCS section.

Myself I’d just recommend to rip the system from this pack. It uses the technique better than SPAZ18 described it, because this one makes the player lose a life, and SPAZ’s doesn’t.

Not a bad level.

EYECANDY

The backgrounds are OK but they do have quite a few tilebugs present. Some bits do not join together properly. The castle in the Layer 7 BG looks a bit weird, as if it’s floating in the air. I think you used a bit too much rain for the foreground, it probably would’ve been better in the BG. I also think the rain moves a bit too slow. Layer 4 is good, though there are a few tilebugs but they are not really noticeable.

6.5/10

GAMEPLAY

The level was quite long, about 10 minutes which is good. There were some secrets that I didn’t find on the first playthrough. The coins were very well placed as I didn’t find them all the first time.

8/10

PICKUP & WEAPON PLACEMENT

Items are placed well, though I did think there was too many Gems placed in one or two areas but that’s not too much of a problem. Weapons were also placed well, though I did think there was too many Toaster +15 Crates in one area. Placement is good, but too many of some items in a few areas. Carrots were also well placed as I didn’t stay on 1 Heart health for too long.

7/10

ENEMY PLACEMENT

Placement of the enemies is great. There was just one area where I thought there was too many. There was about 6 around one Blue Spring, but everywhere else is fine.

8/10

OBSTACLE PLACEMENT

There was a trap near the end of the level which was a bit annoying. I liked the way you used the “Area Fly Off” events to prevent the player from flying out. I still thought that it might have been better to use the CTF Instant Death trick. Aside from the trap there was all the usual important JJ2 obstacles including Destruct & Buttstomp Scenery and Trigger Crates.

7.5/10

TOTAL SCORE: 6.5 + 8 + 7 + 8 + 7.5 = 37/50 = 7.4/10

RANK: C = Good

DOWNLOAD?

YES! Some very good gameplay in this level though the eyecandy needs improving.

@Response to FOX282:

To use the CTF trick. Just place 2 or more CTF Bases next to each other. Find these in “Environment” -> “Objects.” Set the value in the “Team” box to “1” for all bases. Use Layer 3 to cover them up. Also, try placing 2 or 3 sucker tubes above them so that player will hit them slowly, try a “Y Speed” of about 5.
If it comes up with the black screen saying something like “LOSER!” then it’s working.

@Response to Cooba:

Great suggestion. That trick does indeed work better than mine. Unfortunately, the CTF Instant Death trick doesn’t seem to be working in 1.23+
Why is that?

(I’m dutch, don’t complain about my englisch)

allright, you said this is only one level. You can add it to the JJ2 original episodes. pretty confident i think.

GOOD THINGS
it’s an nice good level. good eyecandy, well placed goodies and enemies. it’s never almost impossible pass a piece of the level. a good level

BAD THINGS
You said it was only one level. You can add it to the JJ2 original episodes. I’m sorry but it isn’t. first of all, you didn’t used a original tileset. that’s fine. but i think it necessary that in an original episode an original tileset is used. also the tile set you’ve used doesn’t add anything. you could have make the level also with the original tileset. second, the level doesn’t “play” like an original. i don’t know how to explain this.

RATING
7.5, not a bad level, also not very good

DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATION
Yeah for sure, but don’t place it between your other levels.

This level is a mess.

EYECANDY

Only one Layer has been used and that is Layer 4. Very few tiles have been used here. Even though such a little amount of tiles has been used, there are still lots tilebugs. There is no background in Layer 8, 7, 6 or 5. Layers 1, 2 & 3 haven’t been used either. The pink background has been placed in Layer 4 which does look messy as that doesn’t tile correctly either. Without a background in Layer 8 the whole level looks a mess.

1/10

GAMEPLAY

As PJ7 says there are no weapons or any pickups. This was designed to be one of those weaponless (is that a word?) levels but there are better ones out there available. Try checking them out and see how it’s done. This level is just a very small rectangular shaped arena with some square platforms. “No Fire Zone” events should’ve been used if you want it to be no weapons as the players can still use their Blasters.

1/10

TOTAL SCORE = 2/20 (1.0)
RANK: F = Bad

DOWNLOAD?

No, because the eyecandy is bad and there is poor gameplay.

ADVICE

1. Try getting your friend to check out JCSRef here: http://www.jazz2online.com/jcsref/
It will tell you how to do various things in JCS.

2. Try including music in the level. Go into Tools and then Level Properties and then type the filename of the music you want in the “Music File” box.
