Let’s keep it short. “Underground Lab” is a very decent level using the Labrat tileset (and i really like that set), and indeed it may be a tad too large (about 175*60 tiles) in these times of small servers with only a handful of players (i wonder why the authors keep making this large levels).

But layout and eyecandy are definitely above the average in this level: it has a very good and OPEN platform and weapon placement and therefore it is a great fun to play in it i think. The layer work is pretty good, too, using many elements of the tileset.
Apart from all that, there is music. And, of course, it’s always a nice try to win all my sympathy for a level by choosing a super elite tune like this one. It is the background music for Future Crew’s “Unreal” Megademo (of 1992, if i remember correctly), composed by finnish scene legend Purple Motion. Doesn’t fit perfectly to this little Jazz2 level, but still it’s cool.

To finally put it short: DOWNLOAD this level, it is WORTH it.

P.S.: A very annoying bug is the lack of a correct next level setting. I lowered the rating because of this (well actually i was undecided anyways). You should better correct this bug, MR MAGOO :-)

This very good level reminds me the original battle levels. The weapons are in good positions and the eye-candy is in good condition too. Keep up the good work, Magoo.

I like this level. It uses some nifty layering tricks, a weird tube (I think I know how he did that…. do I?) and some other stuffness. However, there is a slight lack of ammo.

FUNNY NEWS:
I went through most of this level thinking it was CTF, due to downloading a lot of .zips in a row. ;)

I actually didn’t find that this level was “too big” It may even be the perfect size! Good pick for music!
Pretty easy to move around in. Which I LOVE!

My only problem with this level was the ammo. I think there could have been more in some areas due to the size of the level.

Steelix, do you know what the home cook files are?!?!? Nope, I didn’t think so.
I don’t understand how you can rate level if you havn’t seen it. You must have MAGICAL POWERS!

So I’m giving this level a 8.5! But, since your in GpW you get an extra 0.2! We all know GpW ownz all! Thus, your final rating is a 8.7

MAGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I would like to see a battle pack out of you next time! I’m working on one myself!

Very good level, looks good, plays good, don’t need to scavange too much for ammo. If I could see it in JCS (dun have password cracker here) and see it was too big I’d recomend making ti team battle.

Definatly download this.

REVIEW: Good but not perfect

Eyecandy: This tileset could have more eyecandy. The tileset definatly allows that.
RATING: =

Leveldesign: Good. No real complaints, except for that the design is a little “solid” for my likes. I personally am a fan of levels where you can go throught the walls and floor. :P
Anyway, it’s good.
RATING: =/+

Weapons: Contray to popular belief, with the easily accesible power-ups, I think that the ammo is almost JUST right. Just a smidge more would be fine.
RATING: +

Use of Tileset: As said before, you used the land tiles good, but MUCH more eyecandy is possible with the set.
RATING: =

Fluency: It’s round, alright.
RATING: +

Playing with others: This level can host some heated and close battles. I’ve yet to see it hosted, I tested in splitscreen.
RATING: +

Music: Fits. Perfectly. Couldn’t have picked a better choice.
RATING: +

Overall: Good level MAGOO. Just work on your eyecandy.

yeah, I can’t play it either, Magoo uploaded it wrong the 2nd time :p

The solution is to download the tileset from Blades Battle Pack ( I hope its in there) because other people seem to have the tileset ( they must have got it from somewhere)

Well, I have a theory, Myst. He didn’t include the tileset. It’s already been said it used a Blade tileset, but the included tileset was certainly NOT made by Blade. In my opinion, he uploaded the wrong tileset. Metal Mania, instead of Beton or whatever the level actually used. Basically, I can not review the level without the tileset, which I do not have.

Edit: Ok, I downloaded Blade’s thing. Now I can review:

Rather nice. The tileset and the design don’t quite go together, but that’s a rare occurance. As someone said, there are warps for places you get stuck. There is also some interesting use of Layer 3. :-) Unfortunately, the tileset is not used to its full advantage. The name gets a plus though. ;)
Overall, a 7.5 seems about right. The author seems to have placed quite a bit of time in this level, after all. (Correct me if I’m wrong)[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]

I hate you Cell!! ;-P

Oh well, nm. Let’s get on to the review:

Whoa! Two 9?! This lvl is a bit…over rated. (Sry MR MAGOO! :P) It’s quite small but has got very good weapons placement, good gameplay without any dead ends and other irritating stuff you can find other lvls. (Like mine! ;-P) The lvl hs got VERY good music and it fits in perfectly. I think I’ve heard it somewhere…or something like it…oh yeah! A similar music was in the intro of Rabbit Honour Guard! (Wow! I’m smart! :-P) Unfortunately for MR MAGOO, his lvl hasn’t got very good eyecandy, the background isn’t moving (I like moving stuff), there’s just a couple of bridges, spikes and other boring stuff. Come on! It’s a Blade tileset! Surely one can do better than that?! Work a little bit more on the eyecandy and this lvl is gonna be a hit. :) My second complain is that the lvl tend to be a little bit..ehr…“spacy” and there’s so much room everywhere. Maybe you could fill the gaps with ammo or more eyecandy MR MAGOO?

Well, this is my review ppl and this lvl…ehr…this lvl is a…no I mean even though this only get a 7.5 (which is still pretty good) I still recommend downloading this lvl! That’s it! :-D

Hmmm?? Whoa! Some quality! At the first, the music fits PERFECTLY! This si THA BOMB (for a music file) :). Eyecandy is… mwa. Could be better. The level is a bit small, but the ammo is good. I like it when there isn’t placed a load of ammo (as in my levs, ;). I got stuck, but (good work!) there’s placed a warp inside the wall, so if you get stuck you’ll be warped back to the start. At all. 7.0. This level is good. It is that I don’t like Magoos style of leveldesign too much, or it would be an 8.0

Yeah! Finaly some quality. This is the best level Magoo made yet(at least, it is to me). It vey nicely uses Hazes remix of the pld JJ1 crysilis tune, one of mjy favorite songs. The weapen placement is very good. The level design is also very good, no dead ends or such. I`ve got no real complaints about this level. Do yourself a favor, and download this fresh new battle level by Mr Magoo now.

Impressive; the level is well designed. Hope it’s not considered “too big” :)

Blade’s simple metal tileset is all it takes.

I should have known there’s a secret warp to the carrot room. You will, too, once you explore the level and find there’s no enterance/passage to the carrot room ;)

That beginning part in the music… I knew I heard that tone before!
Jazz2’s Song10.s3m (“Chrysilis”); ush (remix of Maxi).
Allen remixed the music.
I believe Haze did the remix of the music “nwcryst.it” (“Ush Overdrive”).
So now Haze remixed Allen’s music. _ Interesting.

But the only problem with the music is the epic’s ‘driver’ to playback the music in Jazz2 (“Galaxy Audio System”). That one sample wasn’t suppose to slide down.

Ammo location seems balanced enough, but TNTs causes problems between server and clients.[This review has been edited by Cesar]

I agree with VeggieMan, this lvl IS easy to move around in. Probably because of the small size of the lvl.

What I like in this lvl is the size of the lvl combined with the red and blue bases entries. You have to warp to get inside them and fall or go through a tube to get out which makes guarding the flag easier. But because of the size of the lvl, once you get out it’s gonna be easy to score a point.

Quite good for a first lvl. I recommend downloading this for quick and small ctf games.

The level is easy to move around in. I love that keep up the good work with the easy movement in your levels. You may want to add in different light affects. It looks cool sometimes. The tileset was a good choice. I have that one.. I should use it one of these days. You may also wanna add some music too.. I didn’t hear any.
