had an OMG day there, taz?
very nice level there, EvilMike, I like it a lot ;)
OMG. OMG. EVILOMG.
This just a OMGOMG level by EvilmOMG of OMG OLC.
It’s just only islands, yeah, OMG, and if you fall you will warp. It’s a very symmetric level, a Blue – and OMG Red-base island, and on each island a PU. OMG
The eyecandy is very OMG, layer 3 is not total, but okay. OMG. Overall a OMG OMG OMG level so OMGOMG downloMGd this now.
EDIT: OMG!
I’d like to point out that if you simply run off a platform without jumping, you will more likely than not land on a platform below you. Enough practice and you will only be falling if you are fighting (which is the intention).
OMG MIKE U HOSTED THIS FOR JDC AND NOW U UPLOAD IT :O:O:O
This levels idea is good, the floating islands and the warp if u fall and stuff like that. The CTF bases are in ok position, good tileset use, good title ;P, ok stuff like that. I prefer jumping island to island, and i really like EvilMike’s levels, because they have a lot of effort and quality do download this level. I will not say anything else, because Trafton took it all so plz download this
Firstly, let me point out it is easy to know where each platform is, because you can spot the green roots in the backround, and they are usually on top of the platform. Secondly, I’ve played this and it isnt that hard to stay on, even when during combat. But the level is fun so i’ll upgrade to a 7.7.

“SPACE LEVEL WITH ISLANDS” is possibly the most descriptive level title ever (a lot more descriptive, for instance, than “This Level is Untitled.”) and I must say that I like this level, thought it has a few quirks. This level isn’t exactly classic EvilMike design. In fact, this level isn’t classic anything. It features two large floating islands, one for each base. Inbetween these two gigantic floating islands are many smaller islands. To get from one base to another, you must either get the fly carrot (the easiest method) or take the time and energy to hop from island to island. I can’t say that I’m 100 percent sold on the layout. During a frenzied game with a lot of people, it was a chore getting the fly carrot, and really not practical jumping from island to island (it’s easy to slip and fall). If you happen to fall off the islands, you will be magically saved by the warps below, which warp you back to whichever base you started from. You can’t enter the base very far with the fly carrot, so some of the level must be ventured on foot. The islands themselves are too small for me to say what kind of flow they have. It’s hard to really judge the flow of the level, anyway. It’s not easy to navigate, but that’s much of what makes this level so interesting. Eyecandy is very good, but strange-looking. If you aren’t a fan of emerald green, then I dobut that you’ll like how this level looks. There are no tile errors, and everything fits together well. The more people in the server, the less the fly carrot will matter and the more battles on the islands inbetween the bases will. This is where the bulk of the ammo, including the very helpful seeker powerup, lurks. I like this level a lot, and despite the new navigational system, it is still a fun play. If you can get used to the islands and don’t have problems jumping from platform to platform (Mario fans will like this level) then I think you’ll like this level. It’s an excellent download, and worth a download recommendation and an 8.2 rating. Nice job, EvilMike.
(Note: apparently, since the last release, music has been added and the warping system has been speeded up significantly. The improvements don’t really do much for the rating I’m giving it, but these are welcomed improvements.)
I don’t really like this. I don’t know any use for it. No rating.
An overall good creation by EvilMike
Read the others review cause im to lazy to write one.:P
And yet another great, 140*70 tiles large CTF map from Mr. I-Hate-TSF :-) It uses Disguise’s awesome “Winterland Wonder” tileset, with its very cool snow covered atmosphere.
The design of the level is very good, nothing much to criticize. Many platforms, very open, perfect navigation: “south african school” as i call it (even though it’s such a “cold” level :). The use of OneWays is very wise and so is the event (nice copter) and weapon placement throughout the level. The routes from base to base are not too short and not too long.
As for the eyecandy, it’s very decent as well, but nothing too spectacular: for example, i find the foreground layers a bit underused (the background scenery is very nice, though).
The music is a pretty cheap, but five minute lasting Protracker MOD from Germany that tries to catch a bit of ealy nineties techno hype (at least in Germany). Not my favourite style, and i don’t think that it fits too great here, but hey, i guess the “wonderland” title stands in some kind of relationship to the tileset name :)
My conclusion:
Of course, this is pretty overrated, like all levels recently. That may also be a reason why i don’t want to give a 8 here (which it would actually deserve), but a high 7.5. But anyways, this is your favourite CTF level for the upcoming snowy evenings at home. STRONG DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATION!
Very good level, and u used a nice tileset.
Well, we had to wait some time for EvilMike to release his Untitled level, but here it is. And I must say I like this level. Its got all a good CTF level needs, and a bit more to go with it.
I would only call the layout semi-origenal, but it still has some nice tricks that I haven’t seen before or rarely see. The trick with going through the tubes with the copter is easier to do at the red side of the level, since at that side there is a copter practicly next to the tube, while the copter on the blue side is next to the blue base, and thus further away from the tube and more likely to disapear before you reach it, which could give the red team a slightly faster basepath if lucky. There are some nice float ups under one of the trees for if you dont quite make it with the spring, which is a nice idea.
The seeker room is well hidden, and well campable, though there are several tricks to deal with campers. The full energy carrot is well placed, though maybe a bit close to blue, but then again the +1 carrot is closer to red, which sorta balances it nicely. The layout is well playable, very fluent and is easy to learn. The other powerups are also well placed and divided throughout the level. Ammo comes in large groups of about 12 +3 guns at a time, so means you can get your gun filled up fast after you die, which is always a good thing.
Eyecandy is also very nice: Mike certainly did what he could with Disguise’s great WinterlandWonder tileset. The ground is nicely textured, with some white rocks in it. The trees look very nice, and EvilMike did some interesting effects with the tree branches. The big mountian that the tileset provides is in the background layer 7, and Mike put some nice moving snow in layers 5 and 6. The level also features a traditional textured background, giving the level a most charming look. One thing that might have been added would be a slight blue or purple fade colour to the textured background, to make it look even beter.
EvilMike also found a great music file for the level, namely My Wonderland by The Ravebusters; a great rave/trance tune that fits the level very well indeed, and gives it a nice playing atmosphere when playing with music on. I must say I really enjoy this level, and look forward to playing many more fun games in it. A high 8.5; keep up the good work Mike. =)
This level is untitled, and it’s also quite good. This is a sort of Christmas-y level using a sort of non-standard navigational system involving coptors. Coptors have always annoyed me, but the way they are used in this level seemed not to detract from gameplay at all. The teams are very well balanced, and every possible path from each base to the other is used during a standard game, which is hard to accomplish. Weapon placement is nothing short of excellent and other than the blaster powerup having a lot of fast fires near it, it’s never overdone. The only thing that ever even slightly annoyed me during gameplay was that the center of the level, which contains a secret powerup reachable only via warp, can confuse people who are playing the level for the first time. The middle part creates a dead end which can be annoying to continuously run into if you haven’t quite got the feel of this level. There were no tileset use bugs that I could find, which isn’t surprising. The mask on this level was excellent (as is the mask on the used tileset). I didn’t get stuck a single time, and in fact rarely got caught on a masked tile. In short, this is an outstanding level that is very balanced between the two teams. The coptor can be a bit cumbersome, but once you get used to it getting around the level is a breeze. A fantastic level, definitely worth a download and the 8.5 I’m giving it.
Ah, yes. “This level is untitled” coinsidently is a title. Anyway, I’m too lazy to think of another good opening sentence, so I’ll just start my review.
Eyecandy: What can I say? I enjoyed it. Mike added at least a few backround layers which consisted of MOVING snow, and mountains ect. The foreground was basicly all of the one-way events, which I liked. I never really used those in my levels. The bottom of the level has some foreground trees, the backround also has stuff like that. Good effect. No eyecandy problems that I saw…or did I? No wait, no.. I didn’t. Gameplay: Good gameplay is nessessary in a CTF level, of course. I didn’t mind it too much, I spotted a float-up event where it was needed. It wasn’t quite effective, though. There are two copters throughout the level, I think one is enough. The copter by the blue base is just awful, it’s too easy to defend when there’s basicly only one way to go unless you’re there at the right time. (I hate copters) The other one was placed nicely, no problems there. The level wasn’t too flat, it had its usual ups and downs, and such. Simple gameplay, really. You can’t go wrong with simple gameplay. Weapons/Placement: I was a bit disappointed with this aspect of the level. Almost everything seemed to be square or rectangular, not much variety of shapes or anything. Though the level is fairly large, I think there was just a tad too much ammo. There needs to be a better balance. As for the powerups, no problems. There are 2-3 powerups in the level, that’s quite enough for CTF. Other than that, not bad. “This level is untitled” is another quality CTF level by EvilMike. Luckily, I don’t rate titles. ;P Overall, I give this level an 8.2 GOOD JOB, M8.Quite a charming little level… I think EvilMike really made this tileset shine; he uses it pretty well… and the music is very, very good too! A trance/rave tune that fits in very well. anyway, this is a good level and the gameplay matches up to the shine.
It’s loaded with weapons, and that might annoy some people, but this is a CTF level, so it’s fine! The ammo is cleverly placed too… the more powerful weapons are located further away from the bases, meaning flag-snatchers have a fair chance. Also, there’s different routes you can take… meaning that chasing a flag-snatcher and deploying guards requires some thought :) A VERY nice touch to this level is that it requires exploration… you need to understand the different routes and figure out how to get into the secret room… very nice concept.
The flash is the thing that’ll impress you first… but underneath the flash is a pretty solid level too! Great old-fashioned fun
FIRST REVIEW. OMG OMG OMG =)
I like this level. Nice and interesting ideas, very fair team balance. I loved the copter trick. That was evil xD
The eyecandy was used very well, however some springs were hard to use. It was very spacious and nice place for the player to control, and not claustrophobic. The level is very fun to play in, all the way from 4-10. Great fun all the way
A well deserved 8.2 :D
Hehe, I’ve played this for so long now, yet I have never downloaded it on J2o and haven’t even got the music. :-D Well, it’s time to change all that, because here’s my review.
Distopia is the greatest CTF lvl ever in my opinion. I just love it.
The eyecandy may be of very poor quality, but the gameplay rocks. There are basically two bases, both at the bottom. You can get to the oppositions base by going at the bottom, the middle, or the top, each being slower than the other (so the bottom is quickets and the top slowest) although quickest doesn’t always mean safest since it is very easy to protect both places.
Distopia has also many suckertubes in it making players able to zoom around quite fast but there are many places where you can camp so you’re not invincible against attack inside the tubes. Springs are no problem either, being always at the right place at the right moment. You can either use them to escape or to get someone taking suckertubes since springs are faster (I think). The only complaint I got is the green spring near the red base. If you hit the spring and you’re trying to score, then you have to wait a couple valuable seconds before you fall down. This makes you much more vulnerable and this also gives Spaz the edge.
Fortunately, Jazz has one significant advantage in Distopia. Once he reaches the higher places of the lvl, he can copter to every single place in the lvl and can also reach springs in the air while Spaz has to jmup down and go up again by suckertube.
The weapons placement in Distopia is great too. Unless it’s a laggy server, you won’t ever run out of ammo since the most important weapons, seeker and bouncers, are never more than a couple seconds away. The full energy carrot is also well placed, unless you only got one heart left because it’s also very easy to protect by camping.
Overall, an excellent CTF lvl with great gameplay and lots of different ideas can be used here. Download NOW.
An 8.7.
Cheers,
White Rabbit.
EDIT: Trafton outdid me this time. ;-( [This review has been edited by White Rabbit]
A very good level by EvilMike to say the least. It features 3 levels, which I’m sure will become classics. Download this NOW.

Distopia
EvilMike’s “Distopia”, which uses the excellent “War Torn Night” tile set by Toxic Bunny, is arguably one of the most famous Capture the Flag levels of all time, and is definitely one of my favorites. It’s not because it’s the best level ever. It is very good, but it’s not a perfect level in any respect, but the fun of both casual and competitive (especially casual) player in the level makes it one of the best plays around. At first glance, Distopia is a fairly standard Capture the Flag fare. The level consists of two bases on the bottom but opposite sides of the levels. The rest of the level consists of two passageways in the middle and a “sucker tube tunnel” of sorts. The rest of the level is stacked upon the base. While this layout may sound a bit focused on the bottom of the level, the placement of the items and carrots make it run extremely smoothly. This even distribution is accomplished by the placement of the full energy carrot and the seeker power-up. The seeker power-up is placed more or less in the middle of the level. It’s pretty much a necessity to have the seeker power-up during normal game play, since other than the bouncy power-up (which loses some value because much of the level consists of open area) it’s the only ammo that isn’t basic, non power-up. Flow is definitely one of the level’s strong points, which partially comes from its fairly typical layout. While the level does not take any risks in layout, it still has an extremely good flow. During game play, I never was annoyed by accidentally running into walls. The only part that could ever give beginners trouble would be the carrot, since it is easy to miss the platform that it is on and fall down, requiring you to loop back in order to get the carrot. Getting from base to base was fairly easy. The only complaint I could think of was that the level did not give much time for a low-life (low in health, that is) to get from the base to the carrot or the seeker power-up and then back. Because it is so easy to get from base to base, the opponent could simply score several times while the player was off getting the carrot. The level is fairly small, but not enough so to be considered “tiny.” Weapon placement was very good, but if it wasn’t for the seeker power-up, one could say that the ammo would be a bit on the light side. As for the location of the ammo, I have no complaints, other than that the bouncy power-up seems to have just been placed out in the open, where you wouldn’t exactly expect a power-up, but that’s as much an eyecandy thing as it is a weapon placement thing. Eyecandy is outstanding. The tile set, “War Torn Night” by Toxic Bunny, is a diverse tile set featuring what looks like a city. I can’t completely say that it looks as “War Torn” as the name may suggest, but it still is a great tile set for this level. There isn’t a ton of eyecandy, but even the normal blocks look so good that it still doesn’t detract from the level’s quality that there is not much outright eyecandy. There are, as is usual with levels of this ilk, absolutely no eyecandy glitches that I could notice, and the tile set was used perfectly. I wouldn’t expect any less from EvilMike, and this level isn’t disappointing in any respect. While Distopia may not use some complex amazing trigger system that is to revolutionize level making, it has been extremely influential on today’s level making. It doesn’t have much flash or gee-whiz features, but Distopia is an example of a simple but great level at its best. It doesn’t feature much more than the fundamentals, but fundamentals are where it excels in. It’s hard not to like this level. It’s fun, enjoyable, and always a good play, especially when it isn’t in a tournament environment. A great Capture the Flag level that anyone could learn something with, and definitely worth a download. An 8.7 might not seem as high as this level deserves, but it is, after all, small and not complex. It’s still an amazing level. Download this now. You won’t regret it.[This review has been edited by Trafton AT]
Really, I couldn’t agree more with the comments above. This level has a below average (for levels with TIPs) flow, which is surprising, because it is usually Mike’s strong point. Still a very good level and a recommended download.
This is easily my favorite CTF level.(it’s the only one I’m any good in:-P)
Download Highly Reccomended
btw, I got 50th download to get music for it[This review has been edited by BlackRabite]
