LVL DESIGN, EYECANDY AND…STUFF
Lvl Design here is nothing really special, but it plays really well. It also has a few original ideas, but only a few not too big ones.
The eyecandy rocks, there are no tilebugs and it looks really cool.
Only thing I don’t really like is the music (3Ddemo). The start of the track is good, but then it gets very weird..

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is good, the size is middle (125×64). Sadly for Lori it’s very hard to navigate. You can reach most places, but sometimes you must jump really precisly (did I spell this word right?) to reach something. For example she isn’t able to reach the warp on 76,40. The rest of the gameplay is well done, there are some secrets, and really enough ammo.

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
The ammo placement is well done, but those freezers and TNTs aren’t very useful. There is enough ammo, so you can battle very nice in this level.

TILESETS
Overused Diamondus used. Due! But I won’t take points for that because I’m also already making a level with Diamondus :-)

USE OF TILESETS
The tileset use is very good, there is much sprite eyecandy and all the bg layers are used. There is nothing in the foreground layers 1 and 2 but that would only disturb the eyes of the player. I only use this layers in addition to layer 3 and 4 or something.

CONCLUSION
This is a good battle level, but nothing really spectacular (again, I’m not sure if I spelled this right =) )
Alltough, it’s better than every level I already made so I will give this a good rating.

LVL DESIGN, EYECANDY AND…STUFF
The lvl design was very original, the concept is to find crates or computers which open doors. This is well done, but alltough very hard. It took me very long after I finished the level and there are no savepoints so I had to save frequently. But don’t get mad, savepoints would be impossible because of all the trigger stuff.
Eyecandy is not my cup of tea. I don’t really care for the rackets in the background (hehe :-p) and the open places looked a bit empty. In the closed areas could have been some more layer 3 stuff.
Sadly I stuck on level 2, the boss is too hard to beat.

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is really hard, and I bet most of the level with only one heart (and saving all 5 seconds). It all seems to work, but sometimes you don’t know where the door is which you just opened. Also in level 2, the boss is just….I can’t beat it, it’s too hard. You are in a small room, a door closes behind you and Devan appears. Fighting him is hard enough because he can jump through walls and you can’t. Also from the right side Tuf’s are attacking you and you probably will die so many times that you get frustrated and quit (like me).

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
Ammo placement was very good. There is not too much and not too less. There could be some secrets, tough.

BADDIES
The baddies fit well into the place and are strategically good placed. Sadly the boss placement in level 2 is bad (because it’s so hard).

HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
This pack has got a lot of obstacles, there are very much doors which you have to open, spikes, moving platforms, spike balls, etc. Sadly the swinging vines don’t fit into the place.

TILESETS
The tileset which was used is the megairbase conversion from JJ1. I like this tileset. :-)

USE OF TILESETS
Tileset use was ok, no tilebugs but could have more in the background (I played the example level of the tileset and saw much bigger spaceships in the background).

CONCLUSION
Overall this is a very cool level pack, but only reccomended for good jazzers, others may get frustrated fast.
DOWNLOAD: Yes, if you are experienced Jazzer
LEVEL RANK: Above average
HOST: It isn’t reccomended to host this, because of all the trigger stuff it may not work correctly.

LVL DESIGN, EYECANDY AND…STUFF
Lvl design was good, it holds what the name says. The concept is, that there are a lot of rooms with suckertubes that lead to them or out of them into another room. These rooms are filled with weapons and sometimes powerups or carrots. Eyecandy is good, there are no tilebugs and the BG is used, alltough you don’t see much of it.

GAMEPLAY
The concept (explained above) is original, but sometimes you don’t know if you can enter a tube or if it pushes you out. That can be really annoying if another player hunts you and you have low health. Also those rooms are very small. And the level could have been bigger I think.

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
There is ammo for Toasters, Freezers, Seekers, 3Ways, Bouncers, Pepperspray and Electro Blaster. I wouldn’t use Freezers because it’s very useless in battle. Also there are some powerups (I think Toaster and Freezer, but I’m not sure).

TILESETS
The level uses a tileset called “Bored Set” (day + night version) from Disguise. Hmm…it reminds me a bit on that Townsville tileset. Alltough, I like it.

USE OF TILESETS
There is a “cold” and a “warm” level, they are the same but use different colours. Because the level always loops it gives a bit of a time feeling. Like mentioned before there are no tilebugs. Tileset use is overall good, but could have a bit more in the Background.

CONCLUSION
Overall it’s a good battle level for duels or games with a small number of players. I wouldn’t reccomend to use this level with much players (to less place to move).
DOWNLOAD: Yes, if you search a small duel level.
HOST: maybe once or twice but only with a low number of players.

LVL DESIGN, EYECANDY AND…STUFF
Lvl Design was nothing special, you are in something like a lab, without a reason, and it seems that you have to find the exit. Eyecandy seems to be a bit empty, could have used more sprite and foreground stuff.

GAMEPLAY
Like I said before, there was nothing that surprised me too much, there is a bunch of enemies in your way, that you have to kill, and some very easy to find goodies (a warp that you can easily see, shouldn’t give you a powerup, if you want to make a powerup warp hide it and make it harder to reach). Size was ok.

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
There was enough ammo, but sometimes really too easy to get (toaster powerup). The coin warp had two powerups (seeker and 3way), but I missed 2 coins and so I never got in. Overall, ok ammo placement.

BADDIES
Baddies fit well into the place, except those ravens (ravens in a lab??). They are ok placed, but on some parts too much turtles. Also you should use the event Stop Enemy (Gameplay/Modifier/Stop Enemy) to prevent turtles from walking over spikes. Looks weird because the spikes do not hurt them, but even you..

HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
There are some spikes, that was it. Could have used more variety.

TILESETS
Mez03 was used (and NOT the totally overused Mez01). Hmm…ok choice, but not my favourite tileset.

USE OF TILESETS
The tileset use was…hmm….it has two sides..Good thing: No tilebugs
Bad thing: Sadly it looks too empty and there is too less in the foreground.

CONCLUSION
Because this is nothing too special I can sadly give nothing higher than a 6.5
Have fun.

LVL DESIGN AND EYECANDY AND…STUFF
Lvl design was ok, not too easy, not too hard. But the level is again way too short. Dx, why don’t you listen and make a big level. Make a playtest and stop how long it takes to beat the level. I worked on my level 2 and a half our now and it only takes 3 minutes and 30 seconds. :-(
Good point of this level is eyecandy. The tiles all fit together and there is a background layer with sprite tiles in it. Most people hate this, but I like sprites in the background. Makes it more interesting than a constant oversample of the same textured bg.

GAMEPLAY
Gameplay was normal Dx style, but a bit easier than in most of his levels. It uses one type of enemies (only doggy dog?). BAD. It has also some food, but not enough to get a sugar rush (more because of the level’s size) and some trigger scenery.

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
Ammo placement was good this time. There were several types of ammo and enough of it. Well done.

BADDIES
There are only doggy doggs…and a flying tuffboss at the end. Well, the flying tuff altough moves a bit weird…

HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
There are several spikes and some moving platforms. There are no parts where you have to get hurt, so well done. Oh, forgot, there is also a door needing a trigger crate.

TILESETS
The tileset the author used, was the candy one. I don’t like this tileset too much, but ok.

USE OF TILESETS
The tileset use is good. The background is fine and there are no tilebugs (only one really minor bug at the background but doesn’t matter).

CONCLUSION
Well, don’t get mad on me (I even think you ARE mad on me since long time ago…), but I think Satan is overrating this a lot, because of that XLM thingy. Because of the size and it’s nothing spectacular I can only give a 6.2

Sorry, the server crashed. I will do it short this time.

The last two levels aren’t playable for me, because in the one with those clouds I jumped from the edge and found myself trapped. And in the fourth level theres a part with lots of TNT, bombs and moving blocks. Everytime I get in I get pushed out. Pack isn’t playable for me, so please tell me how to do, or reupload. I think they are way to hard for race levels.

Sorry, because the review is short now, but my server deleted the old (long) one without a reason :-(

I’ve just seen my old crappy review for this, bah. >_>

As I recently replayed this great pack, I thought I let the old review dissapear and put a new one, as the old one was a bit messy. :)

Described in one sentence, this pack is the best I’ve ever played.

The player starts in the Central Cave. From there, you need to find the key to the first temple. That, is not easy though. Lots of spikes, bats, moving knifes and other stuff that doesn’t like you. The pack continues in that fashion, open the door for temple 1, get through temple 1 and find a key, return to Central Cave, open temple 2, etc. While you get along, there are several obstacles though, and every level features something new. The high difficulty level makes it a lot of fun to play, while never being unfair. Well, ok, sometimes it looks like it’s unfair and there’s no way to do something without getting hurt. But what looks like it’s unfair doesn’t have to be, trust me. You’ll often find alternative routes to overcome obstacles. And to sum it all up, there is a number of incredibly cool puzzles. Solving those is not always easy, and often does require intensive thinking and numerous tries to get it right. And should you have solved a puzzle, be sure to get murdered by moving knifes, mummies and other evil stuff. But not only is Tomb Rabbit enjoyable to play, it is also enjoyable to look at. The two tilesets (which the author made himself) are not too complicated, but they are used so well that you do not notice that. I couldn’t have made it better, infact every level looks different from the one you were in before. There’s also amazing use of light effects, which gives a cool atmosphere. The story gives the final touch. It is not very deep or complicated, but the player has a reason to do the things he does and the ending is funny. :)

So why don’t I give a ten you may ask. There is one, but only one, thing which is extremely annoying, the out of memory error which keeps you from saving in the Central Cave or the last temple. It is really annoying to be right before the end, have 1 heart left and have to redo it all again, because you couldn’t save. The cause of that error is, as far as I know the too big music files. Both fit very well and sound great, but that doesn’t make up for that stupid error.

So, that is all, download this or you’ll get eaten.

Sometimes it can be very frustrating to get stuck in a place even if you tried several times, but it’s worth it.

I still remember the feeling I had when I first finished this, trust me, it’s worth it in the end.

Surely worth the download, bite me if not.

LVL DESIGN AND EYECANDY AND…STUFF
Lvl design isn’t something really great. It’s a bit boring and the level doesn’t have any story or atmosphere. The eyecandy is also nothing special, but the background layers are fully used and there is also a bit on the foreground. Sadly the foreground is very buggy (layer 3 isn’t used right, if you use layer 3 to hide something, also put tiles around the tiles where you want to hide something —> hope you know what I mean ^^).

GAMEPLAY
Gameplay isn’t too atractive, mostly boring because there are only some turtles, bats and dragons. There are some well hidden secrets, tough. And the food placement is ok. I think the gameplay could have some more action and maybe a puzzle or something.

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
Ammo placement is ok, there is some bouncer and some fire ammo. You won’t have problems with toasting the enemies with that…But it’s still too much ammo for that less enemies. :-P

BADDIES
The baddies fit into the place (only the Formely A Prince enemies from Cliffy’s castle levels are used). But they are very boring. The only baddys that surprised me sometimes where those bats because they were hiding behind some layer 3 stuff.

HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
There are some spikes but you can jump over them in one big jump and they won’t desturb you anymore.

TILESETS
The tileset the author used, was the castle thingy from original Jazz Jackrabbit 2: Formely A Prince. I don’t like this tileset too much, because I saw it very often.

USE OF TILESETS
The tileset use was nothing special, there are some tilebugs (mostly with layer 3).

CONCLUSION
Overall, sorry, but it’s too boring. Why? Because the enemies aren’t difficult enough to disturb you (one shoot and they are toast). You should place them on harder places. Also the level is boring because the eyecandy is nothing special and it’s all very linear (put something unusual next time). That’s all, nothing more to say.
Final Rating? I think I will give a 5.

LVL DESIGN AND EYECANDY AND…STUFF
Lvl Design is ok, but nothing new. It all works but it gets boring after some time because the level is very linear. I also think the pack needs a story. Eyecandy, is also nothing really amazing but not bad. There are much layer 3 bugs. If you do a layer 3 hidden passage, then also put tiles around the part where you walk in. Don’t know how to tell this…
M masked blocks
UM unmasked blocks
B blocks (doesn’t matter if masked or not)
Layer 4:
MMMMMMMMMM
UMUMUMUMUM
MMMMMMMMMM
Layer 3:
BBBBBBBBBB
BBBBBBBBBB
BBBBBBBBBB
Get it? Sorry, I’m not a good explainer :-)
Okay, let’s continue…There are two bosses, one in level 2 (Bubba) and one in level 3 (forgot his name). In level 2 as I wanted to fight Bubba, I lost my ammo at the start of the battle and had to kill him with my blaster (put ammo crates around like in level 3). Oh, I forgot, sometimes you have to search keys for doors (I’m not talking about trigger crates). This is well done.

GAMEPLAY
Gameplay is a bit boring sometimes, because there isn’t any story or something original (for example you could use one of the angels who gives you a mission or something). There is mostly enough ammo (except at the end of level 2). The enemies fit well into the place.

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
Ammo placement is ok, but like mentioned before I missed some ammo at the end of level 2.

BADDIES
The baddies fit well into the place, but sometimes there are too much of them. Luckily I played with Lori (hehe) laughs and kicked all the skeletons in one rush :-p

HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
On some places there are very fast moving platforms which you have to use. I mostly got really angry about them because I played 15 minutes until I got up :-)

TILESETS
The author used the Heaven tileset from Agama (one of the best tilesets ever —> Top 3 Tileset Charts). Well choosen.

USE OF TILESETS
The tileset use is also very well. There are some foreground bugs (like mentioned before) but that’s all. The rest is pretty good.

CONCLUSION
Overall ok level pack with a good tileset, (mostly) good ammo + enemy placement and okay Fun Factor. Hmm…I’m not sure about giving a download reccomendation or not… Decide on your own.

LVL DESIGN AND EYECANDY AND…STUFF
Lvl Design isn’t the best, it even after fixing has a lot of bugs, and also if both levels would be one, the level would be too small. Also, at the end of the second level the boss doesn’t appear anymore (maybe he sleeps :-P). Eyecandy, well, nothing spectacular. It’s ok. There isn’t much sprite eyecandy, but a good background. What sucks is the structure, because level 2 is almost the same as level 1, only some minor changes (airboard, boss at the end). There are several more bugs, but I’m too lazy to tell them all.

GAMEPLAY
Not really the greatest part of the “pack” (I think it’s too short for a pack). Playtime is about…3 minutes or something. There are even after Bjarni’s fixing several bugs (I will list them later), and there aren’t any items like coins, gems, food, etc. (only little ammo at start).

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
Ammo isn’t all that great. In level 1 there are some seeker at the start. In level 2 it’s some toaster ammo. That’s all. But, well, you won’t need more ammo…

BADDIES
Not much variety. In level 1 there are some turtles at the start (very easy to defeat). And over the spike pit are some flying lizards. Oh, and at the end there is a TufBoss, which appears some time, some time not (the first time I played, he does, other times not…) I think there’s something wrong with the activate boss event.

HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
In both levels there is a whole line of spiky vines on the ground. Well, also in level 1 the vine what should help you coming over the spikes seems to be an obstacle because sometimes you can grab it, sometimes not.

TILESETS
The levels are using the carrotus tileset (day and night version). This one is very overused, but Bjarni made this pack 3 years ago, so he didn’t knew that this tileset was going to be overused as he made the levels.

USE OF TILESETS
The tileset use is…sprite tiles isn’t used very good (not much tile variety). But the background is good. Nothing more to say.

CONCLUSION
Updated? Well, I think the levels aren’t updated completely (I said I would list all bugs so I will do that now).
Bugs:
Level 1:
-After the first platform there’s a hole. If you fall through, you land on spikes.
-If you fell on the spikes you can run to the right sight and finish the level (I don’t think Bjarni wanted to let players finish it while running over spikes).
Level 2:
-Boss doesn’t appear all the time.
-If you defeat the boss (if he appeared before) he says “sooper dooper secret” or something… Why that???

In both levels there are still some tilebugs (I think).

So, I don’t think you should download this, only (like Labratkid said) if you are Bjarni fans.

NOTES:
Bjarni, if you want to fix a level, then do it right. Also if people say make the level longer, than not only say “I fixed the bugs and now it’s ready”. MAKE IT LONGER, GUY. Final rating is a 4.

Good luck for your next project

Level rating: 3.6
Rating
5.5

Well, you reviewed my level, so I’m reviewing your’s too :-P

It is a single level, and not so big (like author said). Well,… (have no ideas :-))

LVL DESIGN AND EYECANDY AND…STUFF
Well, the level design is not bad, not good. There are some enemies (mostly in hordes), some ammo and about 32486123047w347234 bosses at the end (guy don’t do this again ;-P)
The level is alltough too hard. I got to the end, but as I once bet one of the bosses (the robot thing), the level didn’t finish and I died and game over (lost a credit). So I decided to cheat (wasn’t able to finish without). I think you should do some freezers on the start and a regenerating seeker crate at the end. Oh, I forgot there was a nice suckertube and some platforms that appear and go away. I couldn’t beat that part with Lori ;-( so I played the level with Jazz.
Eyecandy isn’t too atractive either. There is a layer 8 and layer 4. Not more. Use background layer 5-7 and some foreground. The level uses a spiffy tileset from Evil Mike (called Temple). The tileset isn’t used full. For example there is rain, arrows, some animations, moving spikes, etc.
The level uses the music from intro. Cool, I didn’t know how the author did that.

GAMEPLAY
Gameplay is very hard, lot of enemies, not much goodies (add food, gems, coins + coin warp and other things). Also the level is too small. The enemies allmost fit with the tileset, but don’t use enemies in hordes (I got bad ratings, as I did that ;-D). Ammo placement was….ok. Could have used some seeker and ice ammo (like I said before).

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
There is a toaster powerup, and two regenerating crates (toaster and 3way) at the end. Could have used more weapons and not all the time in crates (or powerups).

BADDIES
The baddy placement isn’t good (sorry). Like I said before, don’t use enemies in hordes like this. Also there could be some more variety (only turtes and Tufs). Same thing with bosses. Well, I know the level is called Devan Army but I think it should be made for an internet cooperative game with up to 32 players (so you also have an army ).

HURT EVENTS AND OTHER OBSTACLES
There aren’t any hurt events =(, but there are some platforms that appear and go away (or how you would call this). Sadly, Lori can’t jump high enough to reach the last platform ;-(.

TILESETS
There is one tileset in the pack (made by Evil Mike). The tileset has some good abilities (look in the first section, last part) and some eyecandy blocks. Good choosen, but no rating for that because you didn’t made it yourself (doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing to use tilesets from other level makers).

USE OF TILESETS
The tileset use…well, you could have used more of the tileset’s abilities. Also the background layers aren’t used (only layer 8). Luckily there are no tilebugs :-).

CONCLUSION
Phew, very long review, isn’t it?
Alltough, I think the level is a 5.5 (please don’t ged mad on me, I don’t do this because I’m a sadist or something). I only wanna help you doing better levels. :-)
PS: KEEP MAKING LEVELS :-)

NOTES
1. Thx for reviewing my level
2. If your level doesn’t have a next level write in “endepis” in the field “next level” or the game will crash after finishing the level.
3. Playtest your levels, that means, start it and play it on yourself. Also let a friend, brother, sister, alien or someone else play.
4. Good luck for your next project ^^

8.7!!!!! YEEEES!!!
Thx
Thanks for your review master :-)
Good idea with top secret set. I’m now working on level 2
But the problem is, I want to do, that you can choose your character on every level, and I don’t wanna use Top secret for the whole episode. But I will think about it :-)
EDIT: Good idea, but it’s impossible with Froggy’s house. Well, Lori’s house is protected by some buttstomp blocks, I can do that with Jazz’ house too. Some bugs? Well, I fixed the level, it doesn’t have layer 4 tiles in the background anymore, the start menu works without problems, there is ammo and some other things. I will make a shop into it, thanks for idea.
The fixed version will be available when I uploaded the whole episode (isn’t ready yet). I am also working on level 2 now.

Also thx for your review niels. I will try to do better next time. But about the start, stuck on a morph crate??? Buttstomp it, foo! :-p
Don’t know where to go?
Read readme, I listed important things and their coordinates there. Also, the “clouds” should have been water :-P

Thx for ya review Pete
For first level, well this seems to be a bug because I changed the level. Something was wrong with the saving I guess. Yes I’m doing another project now, but it won’t be as overenemied.
Again thx for ya review…but 1.2 isn’t D-. 1.2 is VERY BAD (F)

@ Chandie:
Also thx for your review
wishing you good luck for ya next project two

Another swamp level?
Let’s review :-)

Gameplay/Design:
Gameplay is ok. It’s nothing special but ok. It has some ice guns (only ice? PUT IN TNT GUY) and uses springs and some other things. It isn’t very long, but for a race the size is good.
You should make coin based exit, so we can host over internet.

Eyecandy/Tileset Use:
Eyecandy was good. It looks like a jungle and there are some animations.
I also like the blinking arrow :-)
There are no tilebugs, and most tiles are used I think.

Enemy/Item/Ammo Placement:
Bad! There is only some freezer.
TNT or 3way can be very fun in races. but there’s only ice.

Other:
->music is bad >_<

Overall:
Overall it’s an ok race level using a good tileset and bad music.
Host: doesn’t use coin based exit so no hosting
Download: If you wanna see good eyecandy, yes
If you wanna see a REALLY good race level not
It’s ok
FINAL RATING: 6.5

PS: congrats for your entry into that level maker team thingy. :-)
