Whee, fun! Not many people make race levels. When they do, they aren’t usually this good. These levels are fun, and they are hard. You should download these! If you fall in the toxic on Toxic Raceway, you get put back almost at the begining. On Stormtests you have to have it on low detail…..but it’s still awesome. :D I love these levels. You should host these often. Primitive Speed Laboratory is very confusing….and fun! :D On Tube Facility you have to keep finding the right tubes or you get put back at the begining. Asteroid Planets is an outerspace one. You have to jump from planet to planet and if you fall, you go back to the begining. Running Through the Rain is extremely strange. Then you have to cross cloud without falling. Springy Pink is very interesting….and has a weird bakground. The whole thing is like pink..pink…pink. Spacy Runway is pretty big. It’s a maze-like level. Head For the Crater is huge, like the rest of the levels. The levels are ALL fun. :DDD Ice Cold Speedway is a really hard one…and fun! Flying Through the Milkyway is awesome. It’s like a video game. You have to go through the pinballs on an airboard, then you have to go through a place where you have to jump onto things, without and airboard (duh) and TNT is going off everywhere. If you fall…..you are warped back. Deep Under the Ground is another hard one. Epitleptic is VERY confusing….and hard. Wow, there are a lot of levels there. Good job, Saphir. :D[This review has been edited by Becky][This review has been edited by Becky]

Hmm…..well, a spaceship tileset…let’s begin with review:

EXAMPLE LEVEL 1: Starlit Spaceship

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN:
The gameplay doesn’t matter too much, because this is an example level. Alltough the level shows all what you can do with the tileset like vines, hurts and destructable scenery. What I miss are enemies. There is only a bolly at the end, but what baddys could u use? Also there are no items or weapons so the level maker has to figure out what events he could use.
PROS: Good use of the standard tileset event thingys (:p)
CONS: no enemies (only endboss), no items
RATING: 7.0

TILESET/TILESET USE:
The tileset use was good. I saw no tilebugs and all tiles were used. Bad thing is that there is no foreground.
Eyecandy was basic, but the tileset lacks on eyecandy tiles.
PROS: Good tileset use, no tilebugs
CONS: Bad eyecandy, nothing amazing
RATING: 7.0

WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT:
Weapons? none Items? none Enemies? none (only endboss)
BAAAAAAD!!
PROS: -
CONS: no weapons/item/enemies
RATING: 2.0

REPLAY/FUN FACTOR/ORIGINALITY:
There’s no replay/fun factor or originality, but this is an example level so that doesn’t matter
PROS: no-one but that doesn’t matter
CONS: no replay/fun factor/originality but that doesn’t matter
RATING: N/A

OVERALL (not an average):
Overall it’s an ok example level. It shows how the tiles can be used and it has all things like vines, hurts etc.
Bad thing is that there aren’t any weapons, items or enemies. Only an endboss at the end.
PROS: no tilebugs, things like vines and hurts included
CONS: no weapon/item/enemy placement, uninteresting eyecandy
FINAL LEVEL RATING: 5.2

THE FINAL RATING: 5.2

EXAMPLE LEVEL 2: Starlit Spaceship

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN:
Same as in Level 1, only with an other endboss.
PROS: look at level 1
CONS: look at level 1, the same as level 1
RATING: 6.0

TILESET/TILESET USE:
The tileset use was a bit better as in level 1, although the stars weren’t as good. Overall it’s only a bit changed, because the tileset is a bit other than the first one.
PROS: good tileset use
CONS: boring eyecandy, no foreground layers used
RATING: 7.0

WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT:
Like in level 1 there is nothing
BAD
PROS: noone
CONS: no weapons, items or enemies
RATING: 1.2

REPLAY/FUN FACTOR/ORIGINALITY:
Look at level 1.
PROS: look at level 1
CONS: look at level 1

OVERALL (not an average):
Overall it’s the same as level 1, only the eyecandy is a bit changed and the author used an other endboss. I’ll take off one point because it’s the same as level 1
PROS: look at level 1
CONS: look at PROS =p

EXAMPLE LEVEL 3:

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN:
The gameplay was the same as in level 1 and 2, only there’s an other endboss and the arena at the end is a bit changed. I think it shouldn’t be changed because all those platforms causes Devan to flip out and he jumps from platform to platform until he morphes in a dragon if you shot him enough.
PROS: look at level 2
CONS: look at level 2
RATING: 5.0

TILESET/TILESET USE:
The eyecandy was the same as in Level 2, only the tileset has an other palette color.
PROS: look at level 2
CONS: look at level 2
RATING: 6.0

WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT:

PROS: look at level 2

TILESET 1: Starlit Spaceship
Now the finally I’ll review the tileset rofl. The tileset itself has good tiles and some basic things tilesets should have like vines, spikes and such things like that. What I missed is back or foreground eyecandy tiles. There are some star for background but I think a textured background would be good. Also there are no foreground thingys. Also there are no eyecandy tiles for layer 4. Overall a good tileset, but a bit small
PROS: Good tiles
CONS: no back/foreground, small, no layer 4 eyecandy
FINAL RATING: 6.0

THE FINAL GRADE: E

THE FINAL RATING: 4.6 rounded up to a 4.7

DOWNLOAD RECCOMENDATION: No

So that was my review. If you should keep making tilesets? Yes you should I think. At the moment your tileset really lacks of some things that it should have but you can only become better.

PS: I made a level with your tileset. It’s called “Lost In Space”. [This review has been edited by PHT]

I must say that this tileset needs a bit of work. The ground is dull, there aren’t enough tiles, and you generally need to put more effort into it.

Here are some tips you could follow, if you used them I think this tileset could be pretty cool:
1. Make the ground more interesting. There are plenty of tilesets out there already that have basic ground and inclines. If this is supposed to be a spaceship level, try to make the ground look like the space ship. Add little doodads like blinking lights to make things generally a bit more interesting.
2. Make more tiles. With only 2 (dull) types of ground to work with, a level designer can’t really use this. Plus, you are lacking several elements that could really add to the set, like belts, hooks, and eye candy.
3. EYE CANDY. You really need lots of this in any set. You have lasers, but that’s pretty much it in the eye candy department. Add more, like background ships, systems, flames, flashy lights, aliens, whatever you can imagine that spiffs up the set and builds on the theme.
4. Put effort into it. Don’t make 3 identical tiny sets with modified palletes, make one big set! Think of what you can put into your set, and don’t stop thinking until you’ve hit the tile limit or you’ve gone completely braindead.

That being said, I’d have to give this set a 3. However, with a bit of work, this set could easily get very high ratings.

A battle this time.
Not a bod one, good layout but a bagger ammo placement.

-Good layout
-Bad eyecandy
-Bad ammo
-No carrot

a 5 is the highest

Yet again, a battle level with the o-so overused MEZ01 tileset. Of all the tilesets put together, MEZ01 is probably used the most. And for good reason.

This level shows little to no effort to use the so simple tileset to it’s full potential. out of the many tiles, only the blue glass pipes (yes, it’s glass, people) and the with/grey marble blocks(yes, it’s marble, got it from the master himself), and some more but to a less extent. As you can see it coming: little to no eye candy, except for the stars in the background.
And the level isn’t “medium-sized” at all: 100×100 tiles (normal battle levels are about 60×60). Because the level is so big, everything is spread out: you really have to jump high to get somewhere if you don’t want to stick at the bottom. So the flow isn’t that good, lightly said, not to mention it’s Lori-unfriendly, sicne she can’t increase her jumping height.
Everything is spread out in the level, and the ammo is no exception. Basic 2 by 2 to 3 by 3 clusters of the same ammo. There are powerups too, not worth mentioning.

Verdict:
Well, it’s big, everything (if any) is spread out… I’m sorry I just can’t give a good grade for this, due to the size and the flow of the level. No download recommend from me. Next time, make the levels smaller, the platfroms thinner and fill it up with ammo.

Hey, this one’s kind of interesting.

Good Stuff:
- layered stars; it’s an interesting change from the usual
- good use of theme

Bad Stuff:
- doesn’t include some tile types (vine, hook, signpost, etc.)
- tubes look too similar to ground
- needs variations (I think it would be cool if you combined all 3 versions of the tileset into one)

It’s not bad, but it could be better.

Oh, GREAT. ANOTHER one of these. This is just a classic tileset where the tops and bottoms of the building blocks are small gradients, and the rest is just one color. The tile placement sucks here. In textured mode, the background here ALL MOST looks decent. But, still, it looks bad. Pinball events do not work properly here. takes off points Poles do not work properly here, either takes off more points There is no water gradient here allowing water to work in 8bit mode. takes off even more points Snow does not work properly, but it still looks cool, so I won’t take off points. There are little to no eyecandy tiles. You can just make the most basic of levels. Don’t expect to make a level with this that will get an eyecandy rating over the “bad” category. Don’t even expect to get into that.
There are no hooks. -POINTS
There are no vines; at least none work. -POINTS
There are no sucker tubes, which are very neccasary in space sets. -POINTS
There are no spikes. -POINTS
There are no belts. -POINTS
Did I mention there wasn’t enough eyecandy tiles?
Oh, by the way, there aren’t enough eyecandy tiles.
I just got a call from the doctor and he said THERE AREN’T ENOUGH EYECANDY TILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall: 5
Average tileset. About as good as they come when they’re made with MS PAINT.

Sorry guys, this is overrated.

EYECANDY
The eyecandy is nice in both of the tilesets, but there is only one sort and only stars. In Spaceship (normal) the stars are colored. The ground tiles are in both two different ones, a rocky one and a flat one. The eyecandy in the tilesets is really bad. It’s just all plain, you can make a space elvel with it, but it don’t feel like a spaceship. There is no “cave” BG, too..
Eyecandy: 5.5

TILES
Not all the basic tiles are in it. The destruct and stomp scenery tiles are missing, and the vines too. There are nice poles in it, anyway. There is also a mark of “Tilesat by Saphir” in it. Uh, duh.
Tiles: 6.0

USER-FRIENDLY
It’s really userfriendly. The tiles are simple to use, perhaps too simple anyway. The stars one BG are simple too made. Not difficult, eh.
User-Friendly: 7.7

MUSIC
The “Water” Music is used in the examples. There isn’t any music included. Bah.
Music: makes -0.5

TOTAL: 5.9 = 6.0

A nice tileset, nice to use, but sad eyecandy and no basic tiles. No music, too. The final versions CAN be better.
