Now zen,

FILE TYPE: Tileset

COLOUR:
Ouch, thats bright. The light blue backround doesn’t give the tileset a cityish atmosphere. The colour for the sprite tiles is OK though.
RATING: 5.6

DRAWING STYLE:
Not good. The ground isn’t even and the backround came out of the trash. If you tried your best to make a level out of this, it would be hard to make it fit.
RATING: 2.8

TILES:
There is not enogh tiles to make this work. There is not enough tiles for eyecandy or makeing gameplay out of this.
RATING: 3.2

ANIMATION:
Surprisingly, I don’t see how any tiles could be animated.

You could have made it longer than 39 seconds. The song was too fast and the guitar samples were annoying. Metal songs should have at least 10 samples (In some cases more than 50!). The song is very repetetive which doesn’t help and makes it more annoying. 30 seconds crap: I agree.

Anyway, the review!

TECHNOIR:
No items and very small are two major setbacks for this level. The dissapearing blocks make it annoying. There are two sections which are pretty much the same.

ORBITUS:
Nothing has changed really. I repeat my other review which is good bouncy floors but the sparks make it annoying. No eyecandy and items and its very short.

Emerald Spaz likes the level. However, I think there are many ways this level could be improved.

EYECANDY:
The eyecandy doesn’t seem to be too much of a problem. The backround is used Okly and so is the sprite (except for the dissapearing platforms. There was nothing for the edge, more on those later).
RATING: 7.1

GAMEPLAY:
Aha! The gameplay was not so good. The platforms animate way to quickly and are annoying (you get stuck to). The water switches were good but not for using in battles (maybe use them in single player). Only Tubes and springs were used good.
RATING: 4.5

ITEMS:
Items were used ok. The fast fires were impossible to get because of the dissapearing tiles (too fast, if not impossible then very hard). Appart from that, everything is good.
RATING: 6.4

SIZE:
The level was big enough for a good battle, but some areas were not open enough for battles. Infact, at the beggining, it felt very single player like.

Twenty downloads and no review. Well….Heres a review. Now onto the review.

EYECANDY:
There are no tilebugs but there is no stuff in the backround or the foreground. Layer 5 has been used as a backup for layer 4 in parts of the battle though.
EYECANDY RATING: 4.2

GAMEPLAY:
Not a lot. The level felt quite empty without gameplay. There were some texts that said ‘DANGER POWER TOO HIGH’ in them which I really didn’t get the point of, since the lighs went out (wouldn’t the lighting be set higher than normal if the power was high??). To sum up, just some springs, sucker tubes and vines.
GAMEPLAY RATING: 5.6

ITEMS:
The items seemed to be placed with too many in some areas bt not so many in others. There was a passage with some ammo crates, but its impossible to shoot them all and you get loads of unwanted ammo. I don’t see the point in puting stuff like that in levels.
ITEMS RATING: 4.1

SIZE:
OKish. There is a lot of space to move around in but sometimes, areas are too open and empty.
SIZE RATING: 6.5

MUSIC:
Hell music for something that seems like a nature battle?? Also, too original. +0.1

The second version of Chets SOS levels.

LEVEL 1:
This level is ust simply ‘get from here to there’. There are no tile bugs but no eyecandy for the backround or foreground. The backround is textured with no bugs. The items in this level: some types were completely overused like extra lives and carrots. There isn’t enogh ammo or food. The enemies were overused in some parts but others had none (eg. The fencers near the exit). There was not enough spikes which caused the overusage of enemies to make the level harder.
The good thig about this level was that there was a veriety of gameplay but you could have used more spikes.
RATING: 3.5

LEVEL 2:
This one was better. There was more eyecandy and ammo. But you still overused extra lives (I had about 9 by the end of the game). The destructive blocks took too long to shoot and there wasn’t enough enemies. But the level kept you thinking ‘what do I do next?’ and ‘Where am I going?’. One minute you could be in this computer room, the next minute you could be in this land full of marsh. Still, the bad point keep this level down.

After chet208s first domonation of the board, I wanted to review one of his/her levels. But the internet stopped working. Chet continues to keep the board covered in his/her name.
Now to the review:

EYECANDY:
Not a great start, many tileugs espesially on walls and ceilings. No backround or foreground eyecandy. Infact, the 8th and 4th layer are the only layers that provide eyecandy. Next time, use more layers.
RATING: 2.7

ITEMS:
Dissapointing, there is a maximum of 2 types of ammo. No food, no gems and no powerups. A wider range of items don’t make the level feel empty. Also the only gun types you used were 2 (ice) and 7 (TNT) which are by far the most dissapointing. Some areas were full of items whilst others had barely any.
RATING: 1.8

GAMEPLAY:
A bit of gameplay, but not a lot. There is a vine, some blocks to shoot, a few shortcuts and V-poles. The level still lacked gameplay and made the level feel even more empty.
RATING: 2.1

SIZE:
The race was too short and some areas were too difficult to move around. Some areas were large with no iems in or gameplay and some were small and were filled with items (eg. Near the beggining).

I don’t see how this could be rated. The levels are tiny. There are no items and gameplay (well there is but not much). The only thing that you will be rating is the idea which could only count for a small part of a rating (unless the auther requests the rating to be based on the idea).

I’ve notice your level hasn’t been getting any rewiews. So I bring you my review.

EYECANDY: 11/20
There is no visable backround eyecandy. The only foreground eyecandy is only included in challenging parts of the level.

GAMEPLAY: 17/20
There are challenges all round the level and a medium amount of normal gameplay (springs, warps ect.)

ITEMS: 16/20
Standard amount of items. A couple of Powerups and a shield.(Rewards for challenges)

SIZE: 17/20
Medium sized basic battle arena. But some areas are hard to move around in.

I havn’t reviewed a single player level in a long time. So here’s my review:

LEVEL 1: (PREHISTORIC)
I found this one the worst of all of them. The level was extreemly short and there was no gameplay (Except crates). But the music you chose did suit the age, but the tileset wasn’t very….prehistoric…..
RATING: 3.9

LEVEL 2: (GOLD FEVER)
This level was slightly longer but was still too short. There was more gameplay but still not enough. Unlike the prehistoric level, this one had more spaces you could move into.
RATING: 5.1

LEVEL 3: (WW2)
In this level, you could easily get lost. I didn’t discover what I had to do until I found the fist plane (which turned out to be the second plane I had to destroy). There was not as much eyecandy as the first level.
RATING: 4.8

LEVEL 4: (MEDIVAL)
There were too many witches in the level and almost no items (same for all levels). Yet again, only the backround layers were used for eyecandy. The music you used didn’t help.
RATING: 4.4

LEVEL 5: (FUTURE)
I didn’t get the idea of the level. The level was passworded so I gave up.

I needed something to review and the music file was the only thing (appart from my battles).

The song sounded nothing like labrat at first. Just this repeating sample sequence and some beats. The drum fills took forever. The begging only uses about 7 samples.

Near the end of the song, the key changes and so does the sequence. But then the same thing in the first half of the song happens. This long drum fill, then some beats.

Then the song ends instantly. The same 7 samples are used..

Judging but how many samples are used and how the sequence goes, this deserves no more than 4.5.

Well…….This level is called ‘Spaced out’. Since NOOBs 4000th download, there have been more rating over 8 than i’ve ever seen, with your level be one of them??

EYECANDY: 18/25

The backround has been used OK and so has the sprite layer. At the bottom of the level, the foreground mountains block your view.

GAMEPLAY: 17/25

There is a lot of gameplay at the top of the level (including transporters)
but at the bottom if you stomp the BRIDGE OUT obstacle, you get stuck and this text saying DOH! appears.

ITEMS: 16/25

A bit of ammo and a PowerUp but nothing big.

SIZE: 9/15

A bit small. You could make some bigger spaces to move around in.

MUSIC: 7/10

Basic, JJ2 style.

A 9.5? Is the tileset really that good??

When I played the eg levels, I didn’t find many animated tiles and there wern’t a wide range of tiles but the colours were great and like Uniacke said about the tileset easily being changed to night, that was good aswell.

I think this deserves a 7.7 because there are equally good points and bad points.

The race is very interesting but the main element is that there are many traps. But rewarding in a way because they have ammo (prehaps to persuade). I won’t rate this, but I like the traps.

I’ve changed my mind. I rate this an 8 because:

1) Traps

2) Wierd music use

3) Not many races use JJ1 tileset.

Yet another tileset by the tileset creator, Gus. This one is called Ischa’s mine.

I’m not a tileset reviewer but I downloaded this because I wanted to check out a few tilesets and do a little reviewing.

The colours in the tileset are mainly what you would find in a mine (brown, gold, grey ect.) You could do alot with this (creating a train like you did in an example level) and there is water but many other tiles are either rock or tiles that say Ischa rules.

I think the backround is….well…rocky.

Overall, the tileset is OK but lose the messages.

Ischa: Don’t blow it.

I’ve lowered your rating. The other half of the train is missing.
