Even though its the smallest, it is very usefull for an intro level and could save memory.

HaHa, according to my count, it has 10 tiles.

I won’t rate because I can’t complete the game. However, I will review what I played:

Like you said, its mostly hard fighting. And yes, that couldn’t be more true. You spend the entire pack going around killing bad guys and walking around a level for 3 seconds before you come across a boss or get stuck. Eventually, you get bored JJNEXTing the levels you can’t do, so you decide to create a level with the horrible smudgy backround and stick a load of bosses in an arena, then my computer packs in.

Another Jazz adventure…Review….

THE BEGINING:
The intro starts out as “Bad guys – I thought this was a peaceful town” which doesn’t give you a lot of info about the story since you haven’t written one in the level discription. You spend the rest of the level fighting bad guys until you have to go into the sewers, lord knows why. The eyecandy would look good if you had used more layers and fixed those bugs. Not just the eyecandy bugs that make the level look bad, but the bugs that make you get to places you shouldn’t (eg The middle of the level in one of the buildings).
RATING 1: 4.0

THE SEWERS (OR SEURS):
Like the previous level, this has bugs. You can get stuck , those eyecandy bugs are still there and you seem to have put enemies everywhere. Near the end you reach a town where you still fight more enemies, without a clue what you’re doing and with Jazz complaining about how big the towns are.
RATING 2: 3.5

THE TOWN OF THE DEAD:
Again, there are bugs. You can get stuck in the caves, there are still eyecandy bugs and you seem to have lost track of the storyline. But this level isn’t as fustraiting as before because there is more space to move in and there isn’t as many enemies. But you overreward us with an extra life just sitting around that you can easily pick up. And those staleg-tingies in the cave do get annoying.
RATING 3: 4.2

THE CAVE OF THE DEAD:
Exactly the same as the city of the dead. Only there are even more extra lives lying around, Jazz starts complaining again and there is a boss that can jump out of its own arena. But by then, you forget why you’re fighting, the arena is very small and my computer suffered from an amnesia error.

Ha Ha, you’ve decided to try again for the 14th time. By now, someone who’s been getting ratings as low as 1s or 2s may have improved. Anyway, the review:

EYECANDY:
Not the worst start, but there’s nothing special there. Just a pack of ‘antholes’ that look like volcanoes and thats it. Nothing else in the backround, nothing in the foreground and the only moving animation used is fire, and thats in the sprite layer.
RATING: 4.5

GAMEPLAY:
Like in most of Ischas levels, the worst problem of all is the gameplay as a whole. For a start, please don’t fustrait the player by all of these ‘challenges’ that end up in you dying. In this case, it is (as always) the increasingly common and annoying ‘fall down and die’ obstacles. If you survive them, you will mistakingly opening a crate full of explosives you need to progress through the level and then reading a small sign that tells you not to, forcing yourself to type JJK. Then, you must dodge a load of flames the width of the level. Finally, you beat up devan retreving back the so called ‘moon’. Another thing is that this would be better in a pack. You would ask yourself, ‘what happened when Jazz was travelling to the anthill?’ or ‘why did Devan steal the moon in the first place?’.

EYECANDY:
Well, there isn’t much to say really. Layer 8 fits, but without anything else, the level seems kind of empty (The only other thing was the clock on layer 2). The sprite layer is no better. Because you can see outside the main path into nothing, it seems as if you’re in a floating pod (or something) above some flames. Luckily, the eyecandy doesn’t stick out anywhere an there aren’t any tile errors.
RATING: 3.5

GAMEPLAY:
I thought the gameplay was alright. The main objective is to get to the finish before the time runs out (a time trial) whilst dodging fire and …er……. the only thing you should dodge really is fire. No enemies, no interesting puzzles along the way. The other major problem is that the level is too short. It takes about 25 seconds to complete, yet you give us 55. You also used the ‘fall down and die’ obstacles, but in thier proper way, so that you don’t end up killing yourself (even more fustraiting punishment for those who don’t know about JJK). And finally, the level ins’t as fun as it could be without a small story.
RATING: 5.4

ITEMS:
The only items you used were a few gems…the most useless kind of item. This level did have the potential for some food items or ammo if there were enemies.

First MIDI version of a song i’ve ever rated. Lets reiew:

Aha….A version of Dark Groove thats not only playabl in MODPLUG, its playable in the old windows media player. And as a MIDI file using all the crap MIDI sounds, this isn’t bad. Everything fits nicely together and unlike some MIDI and RMI files, it doesn’t jump or stall in places where it shouldn’t.

But there is one huge problem. Sample 7 is (in my opinion) too loud and screws up the song. It also has this horrible sticky sound that you shouldn’t hear, and all these samples have that, but you can’t hear it as much.

GOOD POINTS:

Fits nicely together
Doesn’t jump or stick like other MIDI files.

BAD POINTS:

Sample 7 screws up the song.
Samples have twang to them.

I was going to listen more to this and hopefully do a review later, but I leave for a two week next morning and there really isn’t much to listen to.

This song has a nice drum and bass beat to it…

…but it really isn’t that much of a jungle mix. Sample 8 screws the song up and sounds like someone is constantly ripping your insides out. Also, because there are only four channels the song felt rather empty (some of that caused by the bass sound). I also didn’t hear much chrysilis in there. Just the piano part for 8 short patterns….which is over half of the song.

GOOD POINTS:

Nice drum and bass beat

BAD POINTS:

Sample 8 screws up song
Song feels empty
Not much chrysilis
Short (lasts for around 40 seconds)

NOTE: It takes a while to learn how to use ModPlug. 3 years later, I now make funk tunes.

Anyways, to the review:

Its basically the JJ1 version of Diamondus slapped together with the JJ2 version, mixed together and rearranged. It sounds much more nature-like with the sound effects and guitars and the rest of the samples sort of flow along with the feeling. I like how the song constantly changes key and changes the tune from JJ1 to JJ2 again and again.

However, the tune is just borrowed from the origional Diamondus songs. The song would sound better and interesting if the tune was changed so that it still sounded like Diamondus, but the tune would be a tiny bit different (Like Dr Eggman did with his Elettrotubo song). The same goes for the bass aswell.

GOOD POINTS:

More Nature-like version of Diamondus
Samples flow along with each other
Changes key

BAD POINTS:

Tune and bass same as Diamondus
The guitar samples and the bass sometimes clash (something I didn’t mention)

The JJ1 boss tune turned into…..well….lets just start the review.

Good points….well….the song does sound a bit better with the new sounds. The bass has improved and the guitar sounds more real.

Bad points. Nothing has changed about the song. The arrangement is the same. The tune and the bass is the same. This is just a sample change and nothing more. And though sounding a bit more energised, I feel that the drums is a lot quieter and inexpressive than it should be.

GOOD POINTS:

Improved bass
Guitar sounds more real

BAD POINTS:

Nothing changed
Inexpressive drums

I haven’t typed up a large review in a long time, so here’s one now:

EYECANDY: Not a bad start. Looking at SPAZ18s review made me think tha the eyecandy was going to be horrendous, but most of the tiles on the sprite layer were fixed and the backround had no bugs. But there were still bugs. The biggest problem throughout the level was that you could see through the ground and the walls. The wall also looks as if its been dragged. Also, the level would look better with some eyecandy on layers other than 4 or 8.
RATING FOR EYECANDY: 5.3

GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay can be described in one word, boring. The gameplay is really underused. For starters, make the level longer. A longer level means that you can cram more fun puzzles and secrets and stuff in. The highlight of the level was probably jumping over some spikes whilst killing some floating lizards. There were no trigger things used, so prehaps try next time using some crates. In future, making your levels fun helps your rating.
RATING FOR GAMEPLAY: 4.2

ITEMS:
For a small level, you really don’t need that many bonusses. In this small, 30 second level, you could get 9000 points from items, and 5000 came from bonusses. The extra life at the beginning was no challenge to get and was pretty pointless. The warp to the powerup up is just the same, easy and pointless.

There seems to be something wrong with this. All the animations have gone crazy (when jazz flys, it shows him using his gun) and it stops after it opens door one.

D***, I spend 4 years trying to work out how to complete this level and I still can’t get past door 3 (The crystal cave bit).

A multi-game jazz 2 adventure. Sounds interesting:

Well it isn’t. The objective of the game is to find devan (again) whilst journeying though some short place to place levels and finding orbs that sometimes arn’t there. I like the idea, but Gus failed to make it interesting and fun since he put all those horrible and fustraiting ‘fall down and die’ obstacles that have been overused whey to much. The eyecandy was pretty much average, but some backrounds were dull and plain and there were some bugs. There were no puzzles and the whole thing seemed like just another below-average level pack with old tileset conversions.

This pack is just the same as the rest of Ischas pack. All the levels were short, Mediocre and are the same as each other. There were no changes in the pack, no interesting bits and too many of the attempts to wow the player failed. The puzzles weren’t even puzzles. The ‘stomp the right crate’ part in level 2 is a classic example of what not to do in a level.

Overall, I see no difference between this pack and the other 10 Ischa has uploaded. All of which are easy, not incredibly fun and very short.

Straight to review:

Nice synthish backround throughout. I like the drums that used the ‘distort’ effect at the begginning and end. This song would be great for a snow or maybe even a garden or cave level. Despite the samples having a few problems (i’ll mention later) all the samples fit together and don’t sound slightly out of tune.

However, the song feels a bit too much like castle because of the fact that the song is not re-arranged and that there is nothing different. Its feels like just a sample change with some extra-ish bits to mix with the song. The samples doing the main castle bits feel as if they need to be louder and to ‘yell-out’ more. The lead sample is one example.

GOOD POINTS:

Nice synthish backround
Drums at begginning
Nice ‘snow’ effect
Samples fit together

BAD POINTS:

Just a sample change
Quiet samples

RATING: 6.9 (Incredibly harsh rating since its 0.1 away from a DR and a better rank.)
RANK: 6 OK

EXTRA NOTE: So why do I rate it 6.9.?Well, 6.9 is pretty good, but you wouldn’t get much feeling from the song because of the samples and there isn’t really anything new from the song.

Short review:

The song sounded very futuristic. The song would be great for a future or pinball level. I disagree with Danyjel about the size. I think 300KB is rather OK for a music size since some are 1000KB or more. Take my Labrat remix for example, that song is over 700KB and uses 20 channels and didn’t see Danyjel complain about that. This song uses 12 which is about the average for an S3M file. I like the beat samples used which can also be used for other people who want to make future mixes. Some of the samples used is the tune are also quite useful.

I dislike that sampling between patterns 24 to 27. Also, the song can be too repetitive (eg, the repeating notes used mainly in channels 1 to 4 are used to often) but the rest seems to be OK.

GOOD POINTS:

Pinball/futuristic style
Reasonable size
Usefull samples
Good Beat

BAD POINTS:
Bad sampling
Repetitive
