NANANANANAN BAD LEVEL!

Did you even test this level?

Eyecandey
I want to know what you were smoking when you made this. Background has tilebugs, everything else has tilebugs. Very few tiles connect properly. No lyaer 5-7 or 1-3. Everything is flosting in mid air and it looks like the author just took random tiles and called it a level. Very poor.
1/10
Gameplay
Kill enemies, run right, drop down, fight a boss. BTW the boss arena is horrible as you have to have fun figuring out what’s masked and what’s not.
1/10
Enemy Placement
All there is are some crabs, and fat chicks. They barley pose a threat.

Pickups
Very little. Little ammo on the trains and a shield. some things you can’t get to. Carrot crate. No food or gems. BAD

Trust me when I say, you should be the last person doing a tutorial level.

Eyecandey
More like an Eyesore. A little layer 3 is used at the beginning but it makes no sense. (Looks ugly. It’s just blocks) Background is just blocks which look bad. the platforms have tilebugs, bad animations, empty level. Next topic.

Fall down, run across some blinking platforms, if you fall, drop down and jump back up. Eather way, you go to a ledge and your done! You can fall of the level as well. that was fun right?

Don’t upload betas.

Please remember to include all the tilesets.

Story
There isn’t one so i won’t rate.

Eyecandey
Very plain. We got a layer 8 space background that moves. Layer 3 is boring and doesn’t use many tiles. It’s also looks empty. The flame animations don’t have enough frames and look weird as they don’t loop properly. Not much is used in lyaer 3. Boring eyecandey.
1/10
Gameplay
Again boring. All you do is destroy a crate, drop down, then run to a wall and it stops there. You can find some coins and enter a warp but there’s no need as there’s nothing to defeat. Most of the coins are also to easy to get to.
1/10
Enemy Placement
Non so no points.

I think this has gone long enough without a proper review.

What this is
This is basically a conversion of a level form Megaman. I’ve never played it so I don’t know how accurate it is, so I’ll just go by my standers.

Tiles
Well not bad at all. We got the basics, slopes, and regular land tiles. We got mechanical layer 5 type caves, electricity. For the background we got a plain sky, (Textured would be nice) sun, buildings, clouds and a city. We got layer 3 Fences and other stuff. We got hooks, spikes, destruct blocks that look great and look like 8 bit, vines, flashing arrows and a little dancing Megaman. You can make a decent level with this tileset and I don’t know how it stacks up with the real thing, but I think the tiles are good. A little more eycandey stuff would be nice but you got everything you need to make a good level. pallets are also nice.
7/10
Animations
Not much is given. all there is electricity, arrows and the dancing Mega man. what is there works though and like I said, I don’t know how many animations there were in the game. Still, what’s there, works.
7/10
Colors
I won’t rate because I don’t know what the Original looked like. What is there looks nice though.
Pallet Events
Won’t rate because nothing was put in to make them work. (I don’t think he was going for that.)
Masking
Masking is pretty much perfect with everything masked properly. great job!
10/10
Reusability
You can make a lot with this. I can thing of a base, outdoor city, mixture, battle in the sky and probably more. Good job there!

why do people insist of upload pictures that have nothing to do with the download?

Also what’s with all the download that are beginning with lab?

Anyhow.

Story
No story is given so I won’t rate that.

Eyecandey
Oh come on. what’s with the slew of bad uploads? Eyecandey in all the levels are horrible. Pretty much ALL the levels have background tilebugs. Sure the background is textured but that’s not going to save you. Not much in layer 3 except in toe rain levels. Even the rain looks bad as it is poorly animated. Layer 4 is full of tilebugs in all the levels with platforms floating in thin air, bad animations, repetitive eyecandey, tons of tilebugs and overall laziness.
1/10
Gameplay
This can be put down as simply running left or right, jumping and shooting. No puzzles are present. the spikes in one of the levels don’t hurt you because the they don’t have any hurt events on them. The boss arena is boring and you can jump the activate boss events and shoot him to death without activating him. the text isn’t in English so I couldn’t read them but like Spaz said, one of the warps requires you to use the jjcoins cheat. (Now THAT’s lazy) I really don’t know what else to say.
1/10
Enemie placement
There isn’t a lot of them around and a lot of them don’t fit. there are a lot of caterpillars and a huge mixture of enemies, including ones that don’t work. One level even had a Blisy boss put in the path so you hit with without knowing it. there isn’t enough to kill me and a lot of them don’t fit. (Or don’t work)
1/10
Pickup Placement
The only ting that had anything items was the bonus warp that you need to cheat to get to. Nothing else is present.

The review
Normally I split up my review to make it easier to read, but I can sum everything up here. It’s just a bunch of random pictures put in a tileset with the email of the author. The message says to email him on how to make a tileset but how are you supposed to learn from this. He doesn’t know that much as you can tell because there’s no mask and the black isn’t replaced. If I wanted to learn, I’d talk to a professional tileset maker like Blade.

I’m completely bored right now so I think I’ll write a random review.

What this is
This is supposed to be Gerudo Valley tileset and when i first saw the name, I thought this was going to be sort of rip from the game. I was dead wrong. This is a cheep MS paint job that you can barley call a tileset. Still, could be much worst.
What this contains
Ok where to begin. To start off there is an animated periscope at the top of the tileset. It looks bad as there’s no shading on them. Next there’s an animated text sign that has THE LONGEST animation sequence I’ve ever seen in a tileset. It takes up almost 6 rows! There’s no need. then there’s some ground or sand but there’s no shading making it look bad. Then there’s a sun and clouds for some eyecandey. There’s some diamond things and poles I think. Mountains that look the same as the ground. then there’s some bricks and a bunch of letters. A background that completely sucks and if it worked as a textured background I would piss myself. then there’s some stuff about the author and that’s it. There’s also some grass. The tiles don’t look that good but at least there are some basics in there.
3/10
Pallet Events
Um….the jazz pallet is fine.
1/10
Mask
Atuo-mask nuff said.
Reusability
It’s more of a factor of would you even us it. If you do, your choices are very limited and nothing that good can come out of it. Even the example level can’t make this tileset look good.

I think the quick review summed up everything already, but I might as well as well write on to increase my rank.

Eyecandey
You know, I remember I time when I tried to make a level and nothing worked properly. I have to say, this is probable worst. Everything is jammed into layer 4, even the background. There is a small plot of area and blocks covering the sides of the platform. When you spawn, you get stuck and that’s it. The platform that IS in there looks bland. Looks like this was made in 30 seconds.
1/10

Gameplay and Flow
There’s NOTHING. there’s barley enough room for 2 people to fight, never mind 16. Even if you did host this and you removed to blocks so you didn’t get stuck, it would just brew down to trying ti figure out what Rabbit you are and who’s bullets are who’s.

Eyecandey
Sometimes, I wish the staff would go through new submissions and get rid of the pure garbage ones….uh, sorry back to reality. Eyecandey, what to say. If you put a skunk and dog **** in blender what would you get? This. The background doesn’t fit and there’s no layer 7, 6 or 5. There is a little bit in layer 3, but those are just animated beakers floating in mid air. Layer 4 is horrible. It’s the bare basics and probably a little less then that. All it is some floor tiles put together and thrown in the blender along with the sunk and dog mixture. they float like magic and is boring to look at.

Well not bad, but not perfect.

What this is: This is basically the castle and carrotus tileset put in a blender and compiled. While I do agree that this is a good idea, some things could have been changed.

Color
For the most part, the color looks good. Castle looks the same and carrotus looks the same. The only problem is with the carrots, they look bad. The textured background looks good and looks corrected. Overall, good colors.
8/10

Pallet Events
This is a big hitter. Almost non of them work. even the carrotus pole doesn’t work. The only thing that works well is the Textured background and water. Just the fact the carrotus pole doesn’t work really hurts this.
2/10

Ease of Use
Well this is a quite a bit harder to use then the other tilesets. You kinda need to know them both to use them effectively. Even so, it’s still easy to use.
7/10

Usability
This tileset is very usable. You can make quite a couple of combinations. That being said, it’s still only castle and carrotus, meaning you’re limited to those two themes. Even so, there’s still quite a bit of re-usability here.
7/10

Added stuff
Almost nothing. All that really has been added are the connection tiles. There could have a lot more that could have been added.
2/10

Mask
Almost non of the masking bugs have been fixed. that being said, the masking still works most of the time. I would have liked the masking fixed.

DR? Well this is a hard one. This is a good tileset, but I think a lot more could have been done (Mask fix, more tiles)other then just pasting the two tilesets together. Still, if you want something like this, go ahead and download as it does work, just don’t expect anything spectacular.

Well time to start my journey of changing most of my quick review to normal!

I’m not going to do this like a regular level because this is something different. The eyecandey is nothing special but the eyecandey is not the main focus. It’s what the level has to offer. Basically, this is a level where you watch you character do a bunch really crazy and wild moves. Using combination of springs, suckers and warps the author made it look like Jazz was doing this by himself. i was amazed at how flawless it was. There are some downfalls however. Even though it’s cool to see enemies getting defeated without you doing anything, there are some areas where you are just sitting there waiting for something to happen. I can be boring. The final boss with the robot was incredible. I was amazed how it could be defeated by using springs and warps. I was even more shocked when I won without pressing a button.

The creativity is amazing here and I highly recommend a download. I give this a 8 because of not much eyecandey and the fact it can be boring at spots.

This is a pretty good conversion, but nor perfect.

What this is
This is basically a conversion of Muchamok using the tiles that came form Jazz 2. While most of the tiles are here, there are some problems.

Tiles
While mostly everything is here, there are some things missing. what’s here are the basics. Slopes, signs, poles, textured background, layer 5-7 eyecandey, arrows and spikes. There are destruct blocks as well. Now what’s missing. This is supposed to be a conversion but the jazz 1 style signs aren’t here and neither is the jazz 1 style background. However, most of the tiles from muckamok are here so good job. I just wish the signs were here.
8/10
Animations
I’m not even going to bother rating this part because Muckamok had about 2 animations. (signs and acid water) They’re there, but there’s too little to even bother the rating that much.
Color
Colors look great. Especially the night version as well. Good job there! everything looks correct.
10/10
pallet events
Only the textured background and water works. Sorry that’s it.
2/10
Reusabilty
While this is only a conversion, the reusability is still great as you can make quite a couple of things. (Forests, caves, outside or a mixture of them all). Good there.

THIS IS TSF! sorry. Been getting that alot.

Eyecandey
Level 1: What? the background doesn’t fit together. Animations are average. Ground that floats in mid air. Only a layer 8 background. There’s no thought put into this, It’s just a couple of tiles put together and called a level. Also carrotus is overused.

Level 2: The same thing as level one. This one is probably worse becuase it’s more empty.

Level 3: Little better. Background same deal. little tilebugs. The snow stuff looks weird and makes no sense. The water that keeps popping in and out makes no sense and makes the level look weird. the animations are kinda silly and make no sense.

level 4: Same thing. No water but the level is tiny and once again everything is floating. I don’t fell like I’m in space.

Conclusion: Bad. Put more time in. Can’t give you more then a one.
1/10

Story
You running about some random levels with no text or reason to do so. This is supposed to have a story? Nothing is given. Play the Invasion of Deserto to see how a story is done.
1/10

Gameplay

Level 1: Drop down, jump across some platforms that have fire on them so you have to take damage. If you fall, you go into a spike pit and die. If you survive, jump trough some layer 3 scenery to find a crate. Break it, go through a tunnel and you win. Fun right? I did this in less then 2 minutes.

Level 2: Your trapped. You have to buttstomp some tiles but you have NO CLUE there there. You have to take queses. From there, kill 2 turtles and go on. there’s a block. You need a coin. Again there’s no way of knowing it’s in a secret area in left wall of a waterfall you fall trough. Again impossible to know it’s there. Once you get that, you go through the warp and break the crate. You back but WOOPS. You get warped back becuase the coin was a 5 and the warp is blocking the @#$% path! End of level once your done with that. TOO SHORT

Level 3: Well. this makes no sense. Water keeps appearing randomly by just jumping or falling. Water in space? Anyhow, I never beat this level. You go down and destroy and crate then you have to get trough some blocks that were removed but there BEHIND LAYER 3. Again no way to know. Then you go trough some tubes. You can go up into an area, but the blinking platform goes way to quickly. There’s nothing up there anyway. You go trough another invisible wall and break a crate. I then go to the the right side and get warped back to the beginning. I was stuck there. I had no clue what to do. Even JCS didn’t help. I have no clue what I was missing.

Level 4: Go down and break some crates. Which are pointless. then fight a boss. Don’t know what else to say.

Conclusion: What do you think?

Time for another review on this great program.

What this is
This is basically a simply utility designed for the sole purpose of converting TSF tileset to 1.23. (As long as it doesn’t surpass the tile limit.) I have to say, it does what it says it does. I tried using it on a couple of tilesets and I didn’t have a single problem at all.
Simplicity
This has to got be one of simplest programs to use. All you do is drag the TSF tileset onto the converter. It will then tell you to type in a name. If you don’t type in a name, the original tileset is overwrite. (Which is a nice feature) It then runs for about a second and your done! Couldn’t simpler.
10/10
Look
All this is a simple EXE file with no graphics, but I’m not going to rate that part as I don’t see a need to.
Does it work?
As long as the tileset isn’t to big, yes no problems at all.

This utility does exactly what it says. It converts any TSF levels into 1.23 levels. It works like a charm, doing it quickly.

This is very easy to use. all you do is drag the TSF level onto the EXE. It will then ask if you want to give it a name or overwrite the original file. After that, you let it run for a second or so and there you go! you can load it up and play it in Jazz2! (as long as you have the tileset)
10/10
Graphics
There’s no graphics to this utility but I’m not going to let that spoil the download. I’m not going to rate part.
Does it work?
YES! This program works like a charm. I’ve converted some levels without problems thanks to the update. there may still be bugs, but non that I can find. If The only way this could be better is if it made candy shoot out of the floppy drive.
