Level is very good, with nice eye candy. I found one bug in WUSS level, 109, 87 and it is masked tile. I guess it is an accident when you put it there. Also the WUSS version of The Rising Isle is much better, without pits. All JB levels are symmetrical because of balance of the level, so this one is too. 2 PUs for this level are too low, you should put at least 1 more in the middle, in my opinion. I am not a guy who thinks ‘You must put seeker/bouncer/RF somewhere in the level because I like it’ but no…I really think that you can put toaster in the middle, because 3h, without any ammo what can make damage 2h, will be very long game. Also 1 C in the middle (fullNRG) is…well…again needs at least 2 more Cs +1 somewhere in tubes or similar. That area, where is fullNRG, is very campy. Seeker can’t kill you from up and you can kill them up with seeker (just jump, and again back to wait C). If you look on the top of the level, you will see trees and other stuffs what are on the grass. You could put some of them down, in the level, in my opinion. Also that background style is good, but it can be better, if you put it in layer 5 and make it moving it will be much better, believe me.
Download recommended? Sure, download this level, not too much JailBreak levels nowadays. This level can be for 4v4 or less, in my opinion. I will rate this without that bug in WUSS because I believe that was an accident on position 109,87 ;). But please don’t give up with making levels, you’re not that bad, just don’t lose interest in JJ2 ;(.
(Sorry 4 my English, it is not very good, I hope you will understand this).
Yeah…Nice one…I like your remixes, also good collection, its StonarFUNK, LabratFUNK and CastleFUNK…
Great remix. I’m surprised that you were able to wrangle such a good song out of the admittedly mediocre piece that Megairbase is.
Eyecandy is pretty good, although a lot of places look rather bare. The level holds together surprisingly well gameplay-wise, especially as far as flow, but the bias towards blue is very unfortunate.
Wow.. nice quality stuff over here. Good sample choice over here, I see you re-used some samples (nothing wrong with that). I disliked some parts of the guitar solo if i am very honest, but the chiptune samples in the end is something i really really liked though. Slightly repetive at times but not that much. Nonetheless, people, this just owns!
Aww, I liked your remixes…would be cool if you made a funk remix of bonus3, though. But, oh well. Too lazy to properly review this. Lol I downloaded this first. I was like =DDD when I saw this showed up.
The “sex” cell is disallowed on public J2O levels. It can barely be used on the server.
Ok ok, sorry what i being too critical…
I know, every fan of jj2 begun with 5 secunds levels, then their experience is glow…
1 year ago im making levels, like this… :P
Well, it looks like we have some new JCSer here…and oh, you’re not excpecting to get high ratings from me, welcome to the world of critics – maybe you could learn something good from them. And honestly, who DOES actually like this level? You didn’t even include the tileset with the download. Sure, this may be your first level, but you should look at some other user-made battle levels that actually have a decent rating. And don’t be afraid to ask someone else who has used JCS on advice how to make the eyecandy better. That is- fixing the background.
Eyecandy: Good tileset, but not used very well. You didn’t really put much of an interesting range of the other tiles available to make it look more well thought out…5/10
Gameplay: Because I can’t host myself, I can’t exactly say what it is like to play online, but it would probably be like a total n00b battle. All you would probably need to do is run around, shooting around everywhere with a shield, and perhaps even chasing them down with them…oh but WAIT! There is LOADSA shields! Great to keep the newbs happy, because you learn no actual useful strategy whatsoever! Ohhh, it’s spaz based too (I was never a fan of Spaz bias)….but there’s nothing creative much about how the way it’s been done. Just tiles higher than usual. 2/10
Layout: What…the hell. They are seriously random, in a bad way. I could go on about them forever. And don’t add TNT in battle levels, most of the time people don’t even set TNT damage in their server, so all they do is tick people off with auto-change. Plus, there is WAYYY too many full c’s, like 3 or 4! The level isn’t even that big itself. Replace them with normal C’s, and don’t put them so close to each other in one room. And the secrets? What, oh come on, they are so easy to find, even a chimp chewing on it’s own toenails could find most of them easily. As I said there are wayy to many shields, also very easy to get, and some placed so close to each other. And an ice PU? Why two placed so close to each other? 1.5/10
Music: Ah, just a new idea which popped out of my head. The music…is pretty good but doesn’t fit the feeling of the planet Saturn. I’m sure you will find some more spacey-themed music….6/10
Overall rating: 2/10. Don’t download this, unless you want to truly discover how bad this level actually is. You would probably say just about the exact same from me if you even tried to properly review it yourself. Wasting time downloading bad levels and reviewing them before anyone else, so you don’t have to. – TreyLina
Not anything special, almost the same as some other tests, but it has some nice ideas.
In respond to ktos;
First of all the only 2 bugs i could find according to what you said, is the no warp at 35 (which i mistakely put warp instead of warp target at level 35, im human)
And the tiles at 38 , which i immidietly fixed,
Ive putt jazz/spaz morphs because someone wanted me to put them, Its no bug, puttign morphs on mazes does NOT hurt anyone,
i did not STEAL your background, i just took it from shaker, and he knows it, Wherever he took it from, is a nother story.
You need to think straight before making a review, and check everything first,
On level 38, ive changed the speed from 10 to 7 (yes it was 10 not 40. nub)
In my opinion you’re just damn jealous.
EDIT : i did fix them, redownload it.
EDIT 2 : Fixed more bugs and such
an okay level but quite open in some places.. meaning that it’s way too open. the floors are okay just like the float ups down though they don’t have a really good function in the level so they stay gimmicks from my point of view. i thought the base placement was nice although it looked a lot like golem landscapes. average level. normal eyecandy.
First thing i have noticed which is strange and bad is… well, can you tell me why warps at lvl30 doesn’t exist? Or maybe its just not working… But its a bug.
lvl34 pos=20,93. Tell me why this warp don’t have got warp target. This one “No Warp Target” makes the test impossibile to win.
35, again, warps doesn’t exist.
37, warp doesn’t exist and its easy to get stuck.
38, warp exist but… If you know anyone who can win a level where wind speed is set to something like a 40, tell me that. Maybe you have to do it with jazz, maybe that is possibile then, but morphs doesn’t exist.
39, some of the tiles are non-solid. Its confusing. Ah, and you can get epilepsy at this level. Thats annoying…
40, again, no morphs. I don’t think that its possibile with only Jazz.
Winners warp unlocked…! Really? Probably something is not working again, winners warp was closed and it still is. There is a level selection at winners warp, but it’s not good. I mean, you choose the level and you just have to win all levels from difficulty on which this level are since this level. I mean, you should put a warp unlocked by a trigger, which makes it possibile to go back to Winners Warp. And one more thing, its strange that you didn’t put “back” warp at level selection too…
Strange thing is that i just have to make all of the mazes with spaz, but at the beggining of the maze levels I see, that you putted Jazz, Spaz and Lori pictures. So why didn’t you put a morph in there? Ofc its not a bug, but its strange.
What can I say about eyecandy? Well, the thing which was the best was the moving background(which is just copied from my test, but that doesn’t matter. At mine test it was translucent, and ofc I can’t keep this background idea only for myself). Other things is just like in many other tests.
Test is easy. It became medium for me at… hard levels. Maybe if it would be a good test, with normal warps(which should exist), and not really good eyecandy it could be just one more normal test. But now it have got too many bugs. so i have to rate it 5.
Edit: Shelly, I have checked everything. Btw, I said that non-putting morphs at mazes are not bad think, but i just prefer to use spaz. But i checked everything, and everything which i said wasn’t working. btw, how is it possibile the background is looking EXCATLY the same as mine? But i said, i can’t keep this idea for background only for myself. Ah, and I was joking when i said that wind speed is 40.
Edit2:Ah, btw, just try to fix some of the bugs and i will give better rating. And I didn’t said that you are not a human, I just told you about bugs at level.
Edit3:Ok, so now review for a finished and checked level. I was playing it at your server, lvl 38 is still… hard, but its probably possibile. lvl 39 is fixed, still i can get epilepsy but that doesn’t matter. What about level 40? Still no morph. Im not sure is it possibile.
Well, anyway you fixed most of the bugs, and im sure that you will fix other bugs too. So i’ll give you 7. There is nothing special in this test, just a normal level.
Ok. level 40 is possibile.
TreyLina: Your opinion on pits makes no sense to me as I don’t see any problem with warps being a means of escape other than defeating the purpose of it being a pit. Also, aren’t players going to use the coin warps as a means of escape anyway?
However, depending on the design of the level, falling into a warp means other players can take advantage of it and camp the warp target (assuming there is only one), thus discourage falling in the warp.
No ammo near jails? why not? give a reason.
Carrots are essential? maybe we can have a jb without carrots!
Shelly: For future levels I suggest better use of the tileset. The way you used the metal beams in the sprite layer certainly doesn’t look very pretty in my opinion, and I’m pretty sure most would agree.
As for gameplay, this level would be a whole lot better if it wasn’t so cramped in a lot of places. Not only is it cramped but it is also very limiting. Limiting layouts can be interesting if done right, but here it’s just a camp fest. The platforms in the middle have terrible placement because it’s somewhat difficult to move around them. I personally don’t mind as I can play anything for fun, but flow is generally highly regarded for mp levels.
Lastly, the gimmicks are nice, but misusing them results in really bad gameplay. So it’s nice the characters all get different stuff but does it balance out? jazz having a bubble shield and spaz getting rf certainly does not.
Looks like a decent battle level to play a simple duel in for something like ODT, but is by no means even worth anything close to a 10.
The level don’t looks good from here but if you’ll play it you’ll see…it is very well constructed with secrets and weapons! so please try it.
It took me a while to review this, but here I am :D
Before writing anything else, i’d like to say that my personal favourite by far from this pack is Salvation (ill review that as the last level), simply because it has a unique style + some clever ideas. Anyways, lets start:
XX
This level seems to have literally an X design.. normally X designs are very good and work very well in jj2, but this is just way too linear for me. and the gameplay feels like the level was made for an experiment, rather then serious games. personally, even though i disliked the levels gameplay when i played a public game in it, i would like to see how it plays in duel/laddergame.
About EC, i didnt see any tilebugs, but then again, the level doesnt contain any other stuff but the red tiles where you walk, and some other brown tiles. While it looks quite ok, and altough you used lots of different symbols in the red bricks, its really bland, and gets quite boring to look at.
There’s 4 pu’s, which might be bit too much for such a small level. Then again, they can be only gotten with bouncer/EB/tnt so i suppose thats not that big problem..
Persistence of Vision
This level has an interesting name. Too bad the rest of the level isnt that interesting. Layout is okay, but it has some really weird stuff, like dead ends and such. Getting around the level is easy, which is a definite plus. There’s an issue at the up, middle, where Full NRG and rf pu are placed together. It just feels like a very bad idea to me. Also, the EC could be much better, since its very bland. somekind of background fade color would have been nice too, instead of black. Placement is fine, except for the full nrg and rf pu together as i earlier mentioned..
Salvation:
This is by far my favourite from this pack, it has a very unique look (the swiss cheese background especially looks very good) and the ec is much better then in the previous levels. The level is quite platformy, but it still feels very consistent, and has by far the best layout here. There is also a system where you can collect coins (10, to be exact) which in turn save you from falling into a pit. thought it was awesome idea how to deal with something what most players find annoying in a mp level. There’s 3 powerups here, freezer, rf, and bouncer. I felt that rf should have placed in the place of the freezer, simply because in my opinion its more usable in this level then any of the other pu’s, considering the level has quite linear areas where its a very good weapon. Also, from the pu platforms, its hard to jump into the base if you play as jazz.. those are my only complaints about this level.
This is quite nice pack, altough Salvation in my opinion is the only reason to download it. Its also nice that you have your very own unique jcsing style. looking forward to play and see more of your levels in the future. :D
Well,
Gameplay:Good
Layers:You need to add more things in more layers.
Eyecandy:Great
Music Choice:good
Overall:7.0
I liked the level. ALtough having no story, and sometimes having annoying elements like finding hidden crates, it was fun for me, and sometimes thats all what matters. GJ!
