This particular level comes from 2006, which was the year of many releases by many prolific JCS people. Even if it wasn’t released until now, it competes against other popular releases (can they be called “classics”, if it’s only been 4 years?) from back then: namely, Helldome, The Chasm, or the IC releases (sorry for being so self indulgent, but come on, those were pretty damn good levels).
This is a mostly vertical battle level, and a unique one at that. The layout isn’t anything revolutionary – it’s basically two towers intersecting at the bottom with surprises at the top – but it utilizes its space well, and it allows for fast action in what may seem like a huge level (100×200). I did wish for a slowly respawning copter, though, for one more fast route from the bottom to the top – useful when you’re chasing your prey. There’s a couple of death pits (one of the first levels utilising them!), they’re nothing to worry about unless you’re really careless. Getting the Blaster powerup (one out of five) may be tricky though.
There’s another powerup that could prove tricky to get. The Seeker powerup requires 100 coins, which may be a little annoying to do with a lot of people in the level, even with the sheer amount of coins in this level. If you get 200 coins, you’ll be awarded with a Water Shield and a whopping 70 seconds of shield time – a definite game changer if there ever was one. With 5 powerups, 4 carrots, and the lingering thought that someone can appear with the shield and dominate everyone, will make playing this level online quite an experience.
While I’m not a huge fan of the Dreamland tileset, I do find this level a very good piece of eyecandy. The background is the highlight: a starry sky behind a series of cascading clouds that feels like taken straight from a Windstorm Fortress level. The upbeat Super Mario RPG music sets the atmosphere – themewise, this level is a 180 turn from the violent and brooding halls of EvilMike’s Evil Fortress, which was a top notch looking (and sounding) level itself. I didn’t get the sequel vibe myself though; if anything, it felt much more like a sequel to the untitled desert level (olcbat03), with its big open spaces and plenty of action (and a coinwarp with a shield :P)
Summing up, this is a very good “forgotten” battle level, and there’s no reason to not download it. It’s big, it’s fast, it looks good, and it’s got the letters MIKE on it. It’s not EM’s best level, or my favorite one, but it deserves a high mark. I give this an 8.2, you should give this a go.
Fun Fact: When EM showed me this level back in 2006, something glitched and all items appeared as double. The image of double seekers in the tunnel at the right was what inspired me to put (deliberately) double ammo in An Uninspired Psych Level. So know you know that it’s not all that uninspired of a level after all.
Well I really enjoyed playing this. It had a different feel to it than other levels do. I suppose since its got more height. The eyecandy was nice. I liked what you did with the space background. Great job. Going into my levellist
This is one of the most fun filled single player JJ2 activity ever. You must download.
I forgot how awesome it is to just sit down and play Jazz Jackrabbit. You get that feeling when you play Mike’s levels. He manages to pull off some amazing level designs and tricks that you’ve never seen before. I’m honored to have contributed to this amazing project with a tileset.
nice work dude :)
Best levels ever
I cant find anything wrong….
I played this lvl in single player but in multiplayer is better!!!! :-) I like this lvl.

If you have played in a JDC event then you will surely recognise this classic. Even though it was made 4 years ago it is still very popular today. The really cool feature in the level is scoring for the other team if you fall into the lava pit with the flag. This level is always fun to play on CTF and Death CTF.

Loon: can you at least read the description before writing a review?
There are no bugs in this level.
Also, don’t rate things based on how they look in JCS. Every one of my levels has copied and pasted tiles, but you don’t notice that unless you zoom way out.
A level that people could call a classic by now. It’s one of the best event levels (at least in CTF and DCTF) It’s always fun to freeze the spring and let someone fall with the flag (hopefully not one from your team) It also has a really good flow. I don’t think I will get tired of playing this level in an event.
This level is really fun for 2v2, for a duel it can be might to big. That was the first thing of all.
Eyecandy:
Original, it is really good that you did the transulent black tile on layer 6. The lava pits are really well done. I’d love to see such a nice eyecandy, this was really original.
Layout:
I expected more from this, more layer 4 eyecandy, and the what more eyecandy tiles what was given in the tileset. So it really looks like you did more work on it then it really was. So, that was a bad point in my oppinion. Bad it wasn’t bad at all, just something more, but not too much. I see it back in JCS that you used some tiles (I’m talking about 8×8 tiles..) and you putted them on an other place. It only make it more ‘un’finished.
Gameplay:
Well, this level is quite big. with 2 c’s and the 2 ways to the base. There are just 2 roads, leading to the base, and that’s it. The flow is really good, you have only to run. So you can eat a cookie while running =). But some more roads, that you go up or down from road is something what I had wanted to see. The gameplay is good, but liniar too. The pits are really nice, you fall, score for the other team, and hope that your teammate is ready. But it might be annoying for duels, then there are 2 scores, so it will be fast over. And I did a duel last with someone, and if he died into the pit, he scored for his own team. So that is a bug that has to be fixed. (Or it was server lag..) Anyway, the idea is nice, but can give some sirious discussions in a duel or 2v2.
Pick-up placements:
The ammo is putted in the way you walk to the base, so you will always get ammo when you just walk. The powerups are well placed, balanced. So that is quite good.
Music:
Really good, this one fits the level a lot.
Edit: I did reading the discription. And I only said there was a sort of bug when we played. If he died, he scored for his own team. So if he died, I was losing points, but it has to be: if he dies, that I get a point. Right?
Edit 2: I did the score higher, for some reasons. I rated this level somehow stricter and that is something what I would never do. And I didn’t zoomed out in JCS, I zoomed it here out. And my eye fell immediately on the copied blocks. I only pointed you on that. But I gave an higher rating because it was too strict.
DR: Yes, it’s still a good level in these days =).
Too many reviews already…
I can only rate with 10 and recommend download ;)
Mostly this level is based on luck, as Snooze said taking the full carrot is very risky, especially because you may fall into the pit or be killed with ammo9 right before you think you would get 3h again. However the originality increases my personal rate, Employee of the Month succeeding very fast and becoming a ‘must-play’ level for every CTF player who respects himself.
EvilMike: I was actually making a reefer to some tips like camping the tubes, taking the flying carrot right after the game started, camping on the warp target up the full carrot, getting the power-ups with Spaz special move (you never know if you get hit by seeks) etc. I agree on the carrot part, but many people use the warp after taking it, and as I said they might get shot again because there are some serious camp places in this level.
‘‘or if you’re skilled enough to shoot down the full nrg and catch it when it’s falling (this is the quickest way to get it).’‘
No it’s not true. I actually tried sometime to do that, and it’s practically impossible to take it ‘‘when it’s falling’‘, maybe you meant when it gets down? Yeah, but you never know when the enemy comes with the bouncer prepared. Anyway I had the pleasure to participate to the ODT Event, and saw how lag affects so much the game here.
I find the carrot too risky, and navigating isnt that easy. also, lag has annoyingly high amount of influence in this level.
EDIT: rating raised to 8.52, but i would personally veto this if its chosen. no offense to mike and etc but i dislike the full nrg concept.
I’ll really like to duel in this level. It has the gameplay I like more or less, except it has been made obvious in this level. ;)
Levels which use the JJ1 Medieval tileset are indeed messing up at the preview. Always.
I played this – the hardcore version – online a few days ago, and well, with 4 vs 4 or something like that…. And guess. It was awesome!
Everything was well placed and works properly.
The light switch was the most ingenious and nasty thing ever… especially when everybody was blinded and some fell quite a few times into one of the deathpits lol.
It was one of the funniest CTF games I ever played.
There is also a version which put the lights back to normal after you die, which is obviously a good thing.
Music:
Fine. No problems or whatever.
10/10
Eyecandy:
Everything works properly, no noticable tilebugs.
8/10
Level layout: Well, seems fine. I like it. You can run fast through the level once you know it and ti is easy to learn.
8/10
Pickup placement:
No complaints about it. Everything is fine… alltough I should place 2 normal carrots instead of the Full RNG for the sake of symmetry.
9,5/10
Replay value:
Well, this isn’t a level that you want to play once.
I still want to play it again lol.
8,5/10
44/50 / 5 = 8,8/10
Penalties: None
DR: Yes. It is really fun.
The “babie” version is more suited for serious duels, but the hardcore version was suprisingly awesome when playing with quite a few players!
A question for the admins:
Why am I unable to rate this an 8,8?
Edit: Thanks VioletCLM.
Actually this level works only in duels, due to this exciting new feature, the light switch. A perfect sized symmetrical level, a standard eye candy, but after all it’s very fun.
alright great level.
Specially for 2vs2 games or 1v1 or other games type.
great eyecandy,layers good,gameplay extraordinary and
ammo placement no comment… No bugs yay
final rating 9.4.
DR? YES
Wow, that’s a really messed up looking preview.
