A really fun xmas themed level. Level design is extremely open ended, it’s almost designed like a regular multiplayer map would be, obviously bigger. I think the level flows really well. You can go whereever you want, and as far as I’m aware the only point of no return is with the boss fight, this gives you time to explore the entire level and check out every corner you want, since the level design facilitates (or more appropriately recommends) having a look around.
The difficulty is pretty much my cup of tea, where it’s not extremely punishing, but you still need to play attention. Plenty of pickups to look for, as well as secret areas. To be honest, I feel like the single checkpoint you placed in the level is unnecessary though. When I died, I would have preferred a clean start from the beginning of the level, since it’s designed in an open ended fashion anyway.
The music choice is fitting, it’s a calm and nice tune.
My only minor complaints are that the level could have had 1-2 more enemy types in it, and that the boss fight was sort of meh (though that’s mostly thanks to how bosses are pretty 1-note in the game anyway)
Overall I think this is a really well made level, worth having a run-through and exploring it. Definitely recommend everyone to give it a go.
A pretty good level pack, a bit too difficult and dickish for my liking. The level design visually is awesome, with equally fitting music. It’s pretty obvious that the level designer worked a ton on the aesthetics and the item/enemy placement also looks like every single placement was thoroughly thought out, so basically every dick move in the levels are completely intentional (bats in front of death pits, checkpoints after difficult platforming areas rather than before, no saving allowed, death pits that aren’t obviously death pits due to the game resolution, copter lizards in very awkward spiked areas etc)
Though I’m not the target audience for this level pack, I can’t look past all the things that I loved about it. The humor in the text messages are funny, and an enjoyable read. The levels look pretty as hell. The level design/layout itself is well thought out apart from the deathpits. The choice of music is great and fitting.
Despite the difficulty not being my cup of tea, I’m pretty confident in recommending this since all this work deserves to be seen.
it’s a pretty nice tileset, though I feel a lack of chemistry between the background layer (layer 8) and the rest of the tileset, separate they both look great, but combined they sort of differ in artstyle and look like they belong in 2 different games
other than that it’s nice, plus Violet informed me that the classic background is always available in JJ2+, so that issue is also negated
Not sure how other feel about this, but I think most of the invisible springs are pretty pointless, and the version that removed them did the right thing (apart from the Marbelara secret level of course), in Jungrock 2 for example you can’t even get the invincibility powerups since the flowers act as very weak spring which don’t bounce you high enough to get the said items
also I’m not sure if this is an issue you are aware of but on one of the Ceramicus levels, a moving spring could get you permanently stuck. Do you intend to add the final bit of Tubelectric 2 back into the level btw?
Other then that, it’s a definite recommendation, and it’s awesome that you guys are actually fixing the game to make it the best it can be.
Do you really feel this needs to be uploaded here? Why not try something of your own, with your own ideas, at least it would be something original. It can’t even be justified as a convenience for vanilla JJ2 since these levels can already be imported into the base game, as a matter of fact all Secret Files levels apart from Town 3 can be, so this is a pretty pointless upload with the winter themed tileset being the only thing that’s different compared to the original levels. All it does is show how basic some of the Secret Files level layouts were.
Try something of your own!
A pretty good level where the focus is more on the eyecandy/aesthetics than the gameplay.
I think the merged tilesets are done really well, they feel natural. The level designer did a good job with making the level look pretty.
The gameplay gives back the feeling of the original levels, with maybe a bit more trigger crate puzzles and backtracking. You will never have the issue of getting lost though, there are no branching paths other than the ones where you have to go for a trigger crate, basically there’s always only 1 way to progress. This is the one of the few things I find lacking in this level, no branching paths or Jazz & Spaz specific secrets or pickups. Speaking of secrets, I liked them, except for the last Gold Coin, which is hidden in an extremely nasty spot, there’s also a spike pit secret which I only found thanks to shooting a Turtle shell in there, and even then I got hurt twice before figuring out the exact spot.
The difficulty is on par with the original levels, maybe even a bit lower, most of the difficulty you may encounter will come from the platforming. Honestly I don’t mind it at all, rather have a good level which is easy, than a 10/10 level, that I can’t even experience because the difficulty is that high.
Music choice is great, it’s an enjoyable track.
The level is short though, not extremely short, but I wouldn’t have minded if it goes on a bit more, which shows that I enjoyed the level and wanted more.
All in all, I recommend playing the level, it has great music, good gameplay, decent difficulty and great level design (aesthetic & gameplaywise)
I can’t seem to be able to play the level properly, half the tileset for me is missing. Isn’t there a tileset file for the mashup tileset used in the level? Because the level loads the Easterius tileset, but everything that is borrowed from a different tileset doesn’t load. Can someone help with the solution, I’ll post a review when I can properly play the level
I really enjoyed this level, reminds me a bit of the original ones but with additional difficulty. Some of the enemy placements were a bit mean (like the 3 monkeys around you when you drop down through the tree log, and the bats hidden in layer 3 tiles and dragons used on the tree branches where blended in with the leafs) but otherwise I think the difficulty was fair.
The level design was pretty cool as well. I really liked the layout especially in the areas with the boulders. My only complaint would be that I think there should be maybe a bit more carrots 2-3 in the level, you don’t get any untill about 40% of the level (though most likely there are more on easy difficulty).
Personally I like the original music for the jungle level, but the final level music is fine I guess.
This gets a definite recommendation, especially for players who like the original levels as far as layout goes (though it’s a bit harder).
Also nice to see someone else from Hungary also making levels.
Awesome, love original level recolors, once I start making the rest of the People Chimp I’m definitely going to use the Jungle Storm tileset. I’ve been looking for a really dark version of the tileset and this will be perfect!
Download recommended! It brings some variation to the original tilesets.

Thanks for the review :)
I was actually hoping you would check it out. Glad you enjoyed it.
I was actually thinking about adding 1-2 more save points, but when playing I realised the level isn’t that long despite the size due to the splitting paths.
I also noticed the tilebug, it’s an inconsistency in the tileset, despite the color transition the blue colored tree is actually a tad bit wider than the brown, so unless the blue color is used for 2 tileblocks it will look uneven.
Anyway, I think I will change it back to the proper brown tree color.
Thank you for the feedback!
Love tileset recolors
I’ll definitely use one of these if I ever want Medivo levels
Thanks for the review :)
Wow, never thought one of my levels would inspire anyone, let alone one of my first ones. Glad to hear you liked them. I’m 21 now, so I would probably be able to be more creative with level making as of now. I’ll probably give it a try sometime in the future.
Well, as I see Hungary wasn’t the only place with a cold Easter. This way the level was quite fitting here as well. Luckily we’ve got normal weather now. But enough of that, let’s see the level. I noticed at once before downloading it, that the level itself is well constructed so I was really hoping to like it a lot. I actually downloaded it the day it was uploaded, but only had time to play it today. Thankfully 2 reviewers already motivated me to play it as they liked the levels. I must say I won’t be the one who will say that they overrated it. As you mentioned in the description, you didn’t want it to be original but enjoyable. Well these levels are a perfect example how it looks when it works well. I like looking for crates anyway if they aren’t hidden in impossible places. Actually they reminded me of the original levels (the way the levels looked). If you like finding secrets this pack won’t disappoint. They aren’t that hard to find. The difficulty on hard is quite ok for me. I didn’t die but had some hard times as well. Items aren’t overused but you’ll find quite a few of them, as well as several weapon types. I think the only complaint I can have is the music. It’s ok and all, but after 10 minutes it becomes boring (my opinion only, depends on how much you like the Easter level music).
I recommend this to everyone who want’s to have a little fun in levels. It won’t be very easy or very hard, just fine.
My rating is 8.5
A bit easy but it’s decent enough. What I don’t understand though, is that the screenshots are different from the level itself (the tileset definitely is).
By the way worth giving it a try.
It was nice to remake this level for the original JJ2 but I don’t know how useful this can be in 2013. Anyhow, it really is the same as the Secret Files version apart from the walls somewhere. Nothing new for original level fans apart from the fact that you will be able to pick up as much ammo as you want.
Still, you can download this just to see it really is the same and that it isn’t bad at all.
Well, well, well. What could I really say?? The last level I review was something I don’t want to replay again. And why? It has a lot of similarities with this pack.
The “rabbit whole” or what you called it was in that level as well and I already hated it. Unlike in JJ1 where these parts lasted for a few tiles, here you spend several minutes to find the right path, which would be a bit more fun if the wall tiles would differ a bit or if there was some kind of sign which showed you which way you should go. Instead you run about until you realize you are back at where you started.
The second thing that appeared here and in the other level as well is the wide open empty spaces with nothing filling them in. No wonder it’s impossible to place enemies well. It’s easier to jump over all of them through the whole level.
I just don’t know why it is so good to put the respawn on all enemies (especially within 4-5 seconds).
Fourth thing, like the other level I played I also noticed the same boring and uninteresting gameplay that I experienced there as well. Even the secrets (which always contained coins) couldn’t help making it better.
Fifth thing, like last time the eyecandy is very plain and simple here as well. Sorry for comparing this to the other level but I felt like playing that one only with different tilesets. Try using better tilesets, or anything better than these which look like they’ve been made with paint. Even the best level creators would need a lot of time to make something interesting out of this.
BUT!!!!!!! I can at least tell 1 positive thing about this pack!!! The music doesn’t shut up for 10 minutes after it’s over. AND the music choice was quite good. I actually liked them.
But so much for the positive things. Sorry to say this but I don’t believe anyone would enjoy this pack. This is unfortunately below average quality. At least try bringing the quality of the original levels or something.
Download recommendation: Sorry but NO!!!
Also, don’t struggle with a story if the levels aren’t good.
To be honest I didn’t think I would like the pack when I first played it. I didn’t enjoy the underwater and the castle level that much. But luckily the first level was quite fun and the last 2 level were easy to enjoy especially “Emerald Everglades”. It reminded me of Moonbeam Moore minus the swamp and plus the items. What surprised me though was how easy the last 2 levels were compared to the previous 2 (the water level only seemed hard because you can’t move fast in water). Easy doesn’t mean that you can just run through the level, I just mean if you were cautious enough you didn’t lose health too often and the boss was challenging but not too hard to beat.
Rating:
Triton V: As I’ve mention it was quite fun, though there were no enemies. 7.5
Carrotus Sky: Not much to say here. Short and challenging though it can get annoying since you move fast which make it harder to go carefully. 5.5
Carrotus Castle Ruins: First level with actual enemies. It has good eyecandy but the level itself is rather difficult because of the spikeballs being overused. Still it’s quite decent. 6.2
Carrotus Waterways: Like I’ve mentioned being underwater makes it harder due to the speed. Another decent level. 6.5
Carrotus Everglades: My favorite level. I like the tileset anyway but when it’s used well it will result in good levels such as this one. I found some secrets on this one as well. Also maybe the easiest level (that has enemies) but requires you to be careful. 9
Carrotus Fortress: Final level and the 2nd best. It was also funny to put “meh” in one of the text since you could describe a whole level in a review with using this word. Difficulty of this is similar to the previous level. Boss fight was good. 8.5
43.2 / 6 = 7.2
Download recommendation: Yes
Quite good though I’m not sure there were enough level ups to get the needed amount of TNT or coins.
For a first level it isn’t that bad at all, though it certainly is too easy. There were hardly any pickups, some layers were left empty, some parts were sort of boring and the rope part towards the end was too long. On the other side there were secrets (some were placed quite well), you could use the tiles as they were supposed to (which is quite a problem for certain level creators), some enemies were placed well, and it reminded me of the original levels.
There certainly would be a lot to improve on this level but as a first level it isn’t terrible. I’ve seen far worse levels that got similar ratings.
I can’t recommend this though, since I know others wouldn’t like it and you probably won’t even read this since you haven’t logged in for 2 years so what difference would it make anyway.
For a first release it’s not that bad but to be honest I didn’t enjoy it that much. What you did was copy one path and use it 4 times, that’s not original. Like you said it really reminded me of the original levels ( some parts) though those were much better.
