This winter-version is gonna be the tileset from a Boss stage in the next episode we’re working on!
More of a proof-of-concept than an actual level it seems. It’s an interesting effect and the tileset’s graphics look nice, but the tileset is so limited that it’s not really usable beyond what’s done with it in this level. The effect shown in the level (hard to describe, just play the level) is nice and may be used by other authors, though it requires a lot of layers.
Seeing this as a proof-of-concept I don’t think giving a rating would be appropriate. I’ll give a download recommendation though, as it’s a nice effect that might inspire some other levelmakers.
(it’s kind of freaky how your mind is apparently full of children and drugs though)
cooldude: This. Is. Uploaded. As. A. Tileset. Learn. To. Read.
Ron97: I can read i just didnt see the Tileset part.
Nice!
That’s quite an interesting effect (Looks best in 8-bit mode since the colors will not be distorted in 16-bit).
But the tileset is just alot of kids and a background so it’s not very usable at all. It’s very well drawn though.
One problem I can think of is that this effect needs to use many layers and there will perhaps not be much space left for other layerstuff. But there are probably workarounds.
I won’t rate this because I’m quite sure the purpose of this upload was not to make a great tileset but to demonstrate the effect (which looks great).
gus sets look amazing, yet no-one uses them because they always lack of usability
The pseudo-3D style here is amazing, but the tile layout is terrible. If a user can get past the layout, however, you can create a truly spectacular-looking level.
Another huge drawback is the lack of usable slopes.
This would be a great set if it only had better slopes..
hey,i am confused. Can you give me a step by step instructions?
Wow i like it, nice work Gus! But there are some problems: 1. In the 2nd and the 3rd levels after intro you can get lost because that levels have very much platforms which have very much ways (sorry for my english but I’m not English or American) and when you need to return because you crashed a crate you can’t remind wich way to choose. And several problems but I won’t tell them because I’m too lazy too write. Allright 8.7
i like it <3 :)
[Review changed to quick review. – cooba]
It has a few similarities with a sucky Sonic game named “Sonic Drift”. Still, it’s not bad.
EDIT: Finally, a game where you actually CAN play as Devan!
JJ logo has got one J instead of the usual JJ. It could actually be a good improvement for the game. The Rabbit Roast tree look quite amusing. Cheezy grin =D.
1.23 version included. Awesome. I hope to see this tileset with some levels at some point :)
great tileset, good luck with next tilesets :D
Very well drawn, but missing a lot of things. There isn’t really enough foreground eyecandy, and there’s a blaring lack of certain necessary gameplay tiles – vines, destruct scenery blocks, et al.
Casualty Mines was an exceptional tileset, and a hard one to follow, but I must say, I am very much impressed with this set aswell.
This is another artistic tileset, particularily for the background tiles such as the mountains and the trees, which are very well made. I think the streams are also excellent, especially because you can make them animate too. This set also has some decent spike tiles too, unlike Casualty mines, and there are some other creative possibilities aswell. There are also the standard Gus characters that come with the set, creating possibilies for a story. Comes in several different versions too, which is a bonus (although it would have been helpful to name them Pokljuka Heights 1, Pokljuka Heights 2 ect. so they appeared more organised in the tileset list).
However, the tileset is missing a few things. For example, it’s missing some blocks that you could destory/trigger, which means if you are planning to use this set for a level, you’ll have to substitute something else. You have also missed out the ends for H/V Poles (I couldn’t find any anywhere). Also missing some vines, and (as before) the water and caves could offer more opportunities (although this may be down to tile limits, which is fair enough).
FINAL RATING: 7.8
DOWNLOAD?: Of course! I still love the looks of this tileset. Although, it doesn’t have the same impact for me as casulaty mines, and there are a few things missing. It’s still worth a download for any jazz fans out there.
wow…. such an outstanding tileset… goodjob :)
i highly recommend that you download it :)
