Janus is right. Building a level in 10-20 minutes is impossible. I spent 2 DAYS working on ONE level. So you need to spend a lot more time when building levels. They have to be tested to make sure that EVERYTHING works. I had to test my level about 20 times until it all worked.

Sorry about the review before. Here’s a different one:

LEVEL: SUPER MARIO 3

1. The level was a bit short and a bit too easy. Try to make the level more challenging and longer.

2. There were not enough enemies. Try to increase the number of enemies a bit but NOT too much. Too many enemies can frustrate people and cause “Amnesia” errors.

3. The coins weren’t really much use. There was 150 coins but these were not needed because there wasn’t a Bonus warp anywhere. If you do put in coins put in a Bonus warp somewhere at a cost of 150 coins.

4. The music didn’t really go to well with this level. You’ll need some Mario music if using a Mario level.

5. The tileset was used correctly so that’s good.

RATING = N/A for now. 1 was a bit harsh, what was I thinking when I wrote that earlier review?

I don’t know how to rate music. But here are some points:

1. The music is quite loud but that’s not too much to worry about.

2. I think this was a great idea remixing the boss music. Too bad you can’t use it on JJ1 coz it’s an MP3 file.

OK, I shall change this review.

Here goes:

1. The trigger crate at the start doesn’t work. Because of this the level was unable to be beaten. Possible causes of this could be:

A. The ID in the “Trig Scen” doesn’t match the ID in the “Trig Crate” or vice versa.

B. ID 0 was used.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

A. Make sure that the ID’s match in both the Trigger events.
B. Don’t use ID 0. It doesn’t work with that.

2. There were a bit too many Hurt events, spikes, spike balls and enemies. Yes, it was the hardest level ever but having too many of these frustrates people. Try to reduce them a bit.

EDIT: I have found the problem with the crate. The Animated Tile was used incorrectly. When you smash the crate the Tile doesn’t disappear but comes up with the next tile which isn’t a BLANK tile. What you need to do is choose the tile you want to use for a Trigger event, then choose the blank tile so that the tile will disappear when the crate is smashed.

3. I had to cheat in order to get through. When I did get past the door there were platforms with enemies, LOADS of spikes and THREE Devans. Hardest level doesn’t always mean it’s gonna be good.

This level is only bad coz the level maker was showing HOW NOT to use JCS. Yes, excessive amounts of enemies are annoying and they can cause Amnesia errors when you save & load. I had to use the Sugar Rush cheat coz there was LOADS of enemies and EVERY boss at the end. Finishing the level made the game crash.
I won’t rate this since this is showing how NOT to use JCS.

This one is MUCH better than the other levels by Jazz Hyper. I couldn’t even finish it. The MEZ01 Tileset rules. Can’t rate this since I haven’t finished it.
But please use WinZip for these files next time.

OK. Here is the review with the negative comments removed.

STORY:

Just get on the space ship and get to the base. Not very original. 3/10

LEVEL 1 – Untitled (Give it a name please)

EYECANDY:

Not good. Only Layers 4, 5 and 8 were used. The background was just space and nothing else. 2/10

GAMEPLAY:

Only thing to do was to activate a switch and get on the ship. Too easy and too short. 3/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES:

Just 1 obstacle! Only obstacle was the wall blocking the ship which could be turned off with the Trigger Zone. No enemies either. 2/10

TOTAL = 5/15
LEVEL 1 SCORE = 5 / 3 = 1.6666666666666666666666666666667
ROUNDED TO 1.7

LEVEL 2 – Untitled 2 (Again, please give it a name)

EYECANDY:

Layers 1, 2, 4, 5 and 8 were used but the Eyecandy is still not good. Background was just space. 3/10

GAMEPLAY:

This was just a cutscene. Nothing to do but watch. N/A since there was no GAMEPLAY.

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES:

N/A coz this was just a cutscene.

TOTAL = 3/10
LEVEL 2 SCORE = 3/10

LEVEL 3 – Untitled 3 (You guessed it no name again)

EYECANDY:

Still not good. Only Layers 3 & 8 were used. Hardly any Eyecandy. Same as Levels 1 & 2. 2/10

GAMEPLAY:

There wasn’t an exit. The level was impossible to finish. All you could see was a Spaceship and nothing else.
1/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES:

There isn’t any. 1/10

TOTAL = 4/30
LEVEL 3 SCORE = 4 / 3 = 1.33333333333
ROUNDED TO 1.3

PLUSSES/MINUSES:

MINUSES
No music. -0.1

CALCULATING OVERALL SCORE: 1.7 + 3 + 1.3 + 3 (STORY) = 9/40. 9/4 = 2.25
ROUNDED TO 2.3
OVERALL SCORE = 2.3 – 0.1 = 2.2

Conclusion: Don’t download this level pack. It’s not good. Levels are too short and too easy. No enemies in any of the levels. Eyecandy is not good.

Download Recommendation = No
No = 1.0 to 4.9
N/A = 5.0 to 6.9
Yes = 7.0 to 10.0

OK, but not much in the background. 5/10

Only one level. It was too short and too easy. 5/10

OBSTACLES:

Hardly any. Very few enemies. Only obstacle was the Buttstomp blocks at the end. 4/10

PICKUPS:

There was a pointless 1UP at the beginning. The Flamethrower powerup was useless coz this level was too short. Most of the weapons weren’t needed. There were some gems but I just couldn’t see the point of them. 4/10

PLUSSES/MINUSES:

What the…? If it’s this bad, then why has it got 6600+ downloads?

Tried the site mentioned, doesn’t exist. :(
Why can’t you just upload the full version to J2O?

OK, I think I know how to rate Tilesets now.

Now that you mention it, after playing it again it looked bad.
Thought I’d try a new rating system.

EYECANDY: There are already about 10+ different Mario Tilesets on J2O and this one is not good. The tiles look grainy. The background tiles are awful, you can see squares on them.
2/10

LAYOUT: The tileset was not made from all the levels in Mario 3. There was LOTS of empty spaces in the Tileset which could have been used to put in the other objects from Mario 3.
1/10

MASKING: EVERY tile was masked, there was no tiles that you could go through. Now I know what Automask is. If I made a Tileset, I would NEVER use Automask.
1/10

EASE OF USE: This tileset would be easy to use but the fact that the Tiles cannot be animated lets this one down. You can’t animate the bricks or ? blocks like in Mario.
1/10

TOTAL: 6/40 = 1.5
DR: No.

Darn, I can’t get the images to show.
BAH! Forget the images.

OK, heres a longer review and hopefully more detailed.

JAZZ X2 REVIEW:

EYECANDY: The Tilesets are great. They are used very well. You used most of the layers in the levels. 8/10

GAMEPLAY: It got a bit repetitive as I was on the Spaceship most of the time. It wasn’t too short or easy. 7/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES: I don’t think there were too many obstacles. There was some obstacles on the enemy spaceship which were hard. The 2 Bubbas on the Spaceship made the level too hard. Impossible to beat them without cheating. 7/10

MUSIC: The music was great. It went well with all the levels. 8/10

STORY: This was just a Flashback of what happened before JX1. N/A

TOTAL = 30/40 (7.5)

Conclusion: This was a great level pack although I did think JX1 was better because it was longer.

Can’t wait for JX3!!

RATING = 7.5
DR = Yes

Hope this review is better than the other one.

Great program! I can search for the levels without having to scroll through all 782 levels in my JJ2 folder! I have that many! This is a must if you have more than 256 levels.

Any plans for new versions yet?

BTW, character selection works fine on mine.

DR: YES!!
Score = 9

EDIT: I now have 1049 j2l files!

EDIT 2: I have come up with some suggestions of what should be in the next version of CC. There should be an option that lets you choose whether you want to play in 1 or 2 player and be able to choose what mode you want to do it in.

The Pokemon music was great though. Tilesets were OK. Could do better.
There were LOADS of weapons but TNT and Launchers are really no use in this level.
