Zip file seems to be empty. I also tried opening with WinRAR but it still appears empty.
It works now.
You need to work on the eyecandy in your levels. Try putting a background in Layer 6 or 7. Also the level was very small.
It’s so annoying seeing levels marked as 1.23 when they’re TSF only levels.
Right, now onto the review.
EYECANDY
There is hardly any eyecandy to be seen in this level. The background looks boring without anything in Layers 5,6 or 7. Layer 4 looks too repetitive. There’s some nice flashing tubes but that is all that looks good. Don’t rush levels like this.
Also, don’t make levels look empty by only having 1 tile high platforms.
1.2/10
GAMEPLAY
The level is too small for a CTF match. CTF bases are too hard to access. At first, I didn’t have a clue of how to get to the Red Base. Warps are too hidden, there is no obvious sign of how to get out of the area.
First time players of this level would have no idea of how to access the Blue Base either.
There are no PUs anywhere. These are a must in a multiplayer level.
1/10
WEAPON & CARROT PLACEMENT
There are not enough weapons to be found here. Weapons are too hidden. Not enough of them were in the open. Only some Bouncer ammo which is not good enough without a PU somewhere. Same goes for the Seekers and Blaster.
Carrots are too easy to access as there are 4 “1 Carrots” and one “Full NRG” all arranged in a “” form making it too easy for players to regain health.

No, but don’t let the low rating put you off making any more levels. Just keep trying and follow BattleSpaz’s tips and you will get better.
It’s not bad, but the eyecandy isn’t that great.
EYECANDY
Eyecandy is OK, but it can be better. The level could really use a background in Layers 6 & 7. The Sewers area looked it a bit repetitiveas all I could see down there were loads of bricks. There aren’t any tilebugs. The buildings look nice but as I mentioned it would look better with the Layer 6 & 7 backgrounds. The Exit and Boss Arena looked weird. It looked as if the buildings were floating in the air and it looked empty at the bottom.
Overall, OK eyecandy but can be improved.
5/10
GAMEPLAY
The level was too linear in my opinion. It was mostly just running to the right and picking up all the various items you come across. You then shoot therough some RF Blocks in order to access the Boss Arena.
There is nothing much else to do here other than find the 20 Coins to get to a Bonus Area which contains 4 Blue Gems and then you blow your way through Bouncer, Seeker, RF, TNT and “4,3,2,1” blocks to get to an area with LOTS of Super Gems and more Blue & Purple Gems. Also here, is a Lightning Shield which would then make the Boss too easy.
Overall, Gameplay is not that great.
5/10
ITEM PLACEMENT
At the start of the level, you are greeted by a GIANT PYRAMID of pickups including Burgers, Freezer Ammo and Seeker ammo. Finding Seekers too early would then make it all too easy. As you go through the level there are 20 Coins to find as I mentioned in Gameplay. There is a “Food” and “Candy” shop.
There is enough food to get a Sugar Rush but it is placed in very large clusters. Most of the items are placed in the Square & Rectangular forms which may look boring to some players.
Overall, item placement is not that great.
3/10
ENEMY & OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
There are enough enemies to kill me. Placement is OK but some can just be jumped over. There are lots of enemies in the Sewer but since they can be killed in one shot all you do is run to the right and keep shooting. With Spaz/Lori you could just side kick through the enemies.
There are some obstacles but they are not that hard to get through. There isn’t any Trigger Crate/Zone puzzles so the level is a bit easy.
5/10
OVERALL SCORE: 5 + 5 + 3 + 5 = 18/40 = 4.5/10
SUMMARY – PROS
1. No tilebugs.
2. Decent eyecandy.
3. Enough enemies to kill the player.
4. 20 Coins to find
CONS
1. Repetitive eyecandy in Sewers
2. Exit and Boss Arena look weird.
3. Some places look empty.
4. Seekers found too early.
5. Too much food found in one place.

Normally I’d give no DR if the rating is under 5.0 but as this is your first level, I’ll just leave it as N/A.
RANK: F = Not good
Background is cool and original and I like the idea of the level. However, the level is too short and apart from the background there isn’t much eyecandy.
The goal of the level is to get to the Super Gem at the top to finish. Don’t see how this counts as Treasure Hunt though, as there isn’t 100 Gems.
This is quite a good level.
EYECANDY
This looks like an Orbitus JJ1 level as it has the backgrounds like the original and some cool waterfalls. I like the flashing lights and Layer 4 doesn’t look repetitive either. There are just 2 tilebugs I found in the level. There is a flashing light missing at pos 75,7 and there is a tile that looks wrong at 184,11. But other than that, everything else looks OK.
7.5/10
GAMEPLAY
The level wasn’t really that long but I still liked it. I think the vertical moving platforms could use some “One Way” events so the player can jump through them like the original JJ1 Orbitus levels. There some secrets though they are not that hard to find.
I like the way that the blue flashing bounce the player like in the original. There wasn’t that many pickups. There was some food, though not enough for a Sugar Rush. I didn’t see any PUs, I think the level could use a Coin Warp to make someone want to replay the level to find the coins.
Enemy placement was good though there wasn’t really enough to kill me.
The Boss Arena wasn’t that challenging, I thought. There was a re-generating Spark enemy, but I don’t think it appears quick enough. I think a second Spark on the other side would be better as well so that the Boss isn’t too easy.

The level has good eyecandy but it is quite short. Still, I think it’s worth a download.
Before I review this, I’d just like to state 2 things:
1. This is NOT 1.23 compatible. Please change it to TSF. Make sure you check that you have chosen the right version BEFORE uploading.
2. Please include the tileset in the Zip file as this level wouldn’t work. I had to search J2O for the tileset.
On to the review now.
EYECANDY
First off, the Layer 8 Background is buggy as it doesn’t join up properly. Everything looks repetitive, there is hardly any eyecandy anywhere. Only the same black square tile is used too often. Also, “Top Secret” is used far too often for Test levels so please use something else if anyone is thinking of making a test level.
1/10
GAMEPLAY
Some of the tests were quite cool. I liked the one where you get stuck in the wall and keep jumping. Others were mostly using the copter to float down through the obstacles. The second wall climb level has no warps meaning I get stuck there and had to use JJFLY to move on.
The text events weren’t in English, meaning I couldn’t understand what to do. The Winner’s Room was poor. It was just loads of Blue Gems in one big room with no exit. While some of the tests were good, most of the others were just the same meaning it got boring.

SUMMARY – GOOD POINTS
*Some tests were good
BAD POINTS
*Repetitive eyecandy
*Buggy background
*Unworking second wall climb level
*No “End Level” event
*Most of the other tests were the same
DOWNLOAD?
Poor eyecandy and one unworking wall climb test make this a level you do not want to download. So in other words, no DR.
RANK: F = Bad
This is not a good level. The eyecandy is very poor. Only the “!” blocks have been used for a Layer 8 Background which looks messy.
If this is supposed to be a test level then there needs to be more than 3 tests as that’s all there was. The whole thing was just too short (about 1 minute).
It would also help if there was information about what the title and lowtitle images are.
I tried making a J2E and it came out awful.
Janus: I think the DLL files just go in the JJ2 folder..
Thanks, Olsen! :D
I felt like reviewing this because I had nothing else to do.
EYECANDY
To start with, there are tilebugs in the ground in Layer 4 and the level looks empty because there are quite a few blank spaces.
Background isn’t that great. There is a BG in Layer 6 but I don’t see it until near the end. This level could use a better background as the Layer 6 one looks weird and confusing. It makes me think there are platforms there when there aren’t. A lot of the level looks repetitive.
4/10
GAMEPLAY
The level is short, I finished it in about 2 minutes. There are no checkpoints which is not good if you die in the level. There was only one Bonus Area which isn’t hard to access. The pole near the warp catapults the player up rather than across. This is because you have used the wrong pole event. You should have used the “H-Pole” event.
3/10
ITEM PLACEMENT
Coin placement is poor as too many of these can be found out in the open. They need to be hidden so that the player cannot access the Bonus Area to easily. The Bonus Area has far too many items. There are TONS of Tacos. There were 5 1UPs in the level in total. Too many of these were found out in the open. There was a Shield right NEAR the end of the level with lots of Extra Time events which do not work. You need to use the “Stopwatch” event in Environment -> Objects for extra time on Shields though there were too many placed here. The Shield was useless as it wasn’t needed near the end of the level. The grouping of the weapons was too big. There were lots of Toaster weapons in the open. I would think a maximum of 6 items per group would be better. Also, don’t place them in square forms as this may look boring to some players. Overall, the item placement is not good and there are too many weapons & 1UPs in the open.
3/10
ENEMY & OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
There were enough enemies to kill me in this level but placement of some of them wasn’t that great as the player could jump over them. Obstacles were OK but I think you could have put in some puzzles like Trigger Crates or Trigger Zones.
5/10
TOTAL SCORE: 15/40 = 3.75 = 3.8

The eyecandy is not good in this level. Tilebugs are everywhere and there is only one background which is in Layer 6 and looks confusing.
Items are poorly placed and there are too many of the weapons and 1UPs.
Your other level (The Middle Ages) was better so try making your levels like that. Since the score is lower than 5, my DR is NO.
Hmm… This Race pack wasn’t really that great. There were tilebugs in the Carrotus levels. Foregrounds in Carrotus were annoying as I kept seeing the same Carrot about 3 times a second. There wasn’t much gameplay here either. No items or weapons anywhere except for the MILLIONS of self detonating TNT everywhere. :O Mostly you were just running, spinning on poles and going through TONS of speed destruct scenery.
If I were to rate it, I’d probably give it about 4 or 5 as it’s a bit too repetitive but the eyecandy was quite original in some levels.
EYECANDY
This is the only conversion of Crysillis available right now. Although it has most of the JJ1 Crysillis tiles, it’s missing the flashing arrows which a JJ1 level really needs. Everything else still looks fine though.
7.5/10
USABILITY
Not all the tiles are masked correctly. The bright yellow crystals are not masked meaning that they cannot be used as platforms. Even with this problem, you still do have enough tiles to make a good level (which I’m making with this set right now). There is no textured background though you do still have the original JJ1 style BG. Text signs are added but the JJ1 signs are also missing. Also in the set is the scenery blocks which every level needs. This set could also do with the V & H Poles as there isn’t really anything to use for them.
8/10
TOTAL SCORE: 15.5/20 = 7.75 (ROUNDED TO 7.8)
SUMMARY – GOOD POINTS
*Great looking Crysillis tiles.
*Contains enough tiles to make a good level.
*Contains all the scenery blocks.
BAD POINTS
*Some tiles are missing including flashing arrows, V & H Poles & JJ1 Signs.
*Bright yellow Crystals not masked

While this set is missing some tiles, there are still plenty of tiles which can be used to make a good level. As I’ve given this way over 6.5 my DR is YES!
OK, now this is the FIRST TIME I EVER reviewed a CTF level so I hope this is all right, I spent 3 days typing this up.
1. THE DEATH FACILITY III
EYECANDY
Tileset used for this level is Odyssey 04 which is one of the overused tilesets but this set has been used really well in this level. All 8 Layers have been used. Backgrounds and Foregrounds are original and look fantastic. Tiles have also been made translucent. Every layer has eyecandy. Tons of animated tiles have been used in lots of the layers. The whole level looks like one big machine. The background in Layer 7 also moves. The whole level looks much better than the original Death Facility. The eyecandy must have taken months to make and to get working correctly. There are masses of animated tiles in Layer 2 & 3. I love the way everything moves. There are absolutely NO tilebugs present anywhere. Nothing looks repetitive. Everywhere you go you will see all this amazing eyecandy.
Overall, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the eyecandy so this deserves a 10!
10/10!
GAMEPLAY
Layout is great, there are no places for the player to camp. There are Float Up events used to get to higher levels. Three PUs can be found in the level. 2 of these are Seekers and RFs which can only be accessed by shooting a Bouncer at them as sucker tubes stop the player from going down to the PUs. The other PU which is a Bouncer can be found at the top and I didn’t find this on my first playthrough. Flag placement is good, I couldn’t find the Flag Bases at first as they were hidden well. Weapon placement is also great, the are not placed in the usual broing 2×2 square forms and are scattered about the level.
In some of the tubes, Springs and Wind Left/Right events have been used instead of Sucker Tube events. There are 2 +1 Carrots and there’s one Full NRG carrot too. The Carrots also have a delay so that the players cannot pick these up too easily.
There aren’t any secret or Bonus areas to access here but the gameplay is still excellent.
9/10
LV 1 SCORE: 19/20 (9.5)
2. DEMON RAMPART
EYECANDY
Tileset used for this level is Windstorm Fortress. Eyecandy in this level is not as impressive as DF3, no animated tiles are used but the eyecandy here is still awesome. Layers 3-8 have been used. Nothing looks repetitive, there are no tilebugs. This level has fantastic backgrounds, the Layer 8 BG has been made translucent.
9/10
GAMEPLAY
There are 5 PUs here. 1 RF, 2 Bouncer, 1 Seeker and 1 Toaster. They are easier to access than in DF3 but they do have a delay so that the players can’t just camp there shooting PUs. Weapon placement is great, but there are some RFs placed on both sides and they are impossible to pick up as there is no spring to bounce up to them. Only the useful weapons are here. No useless ones like TNT or Freezer. Also, they are not placed in the 2×2 square forms so that they don’t look boring.
Flag placement is good, sometimes I don’t notice the Bases as I run through the level. There are 2 “+1 Carrots” and 1 Full NRG carrot. The Full NRG carrot can be quite hard to get which is good. Carrots are not placed on the ground. They are also have a delay so that players can not easily re-gain any Hearts. There are no Bonusses but there are hidden warps which go back up to the top. Overall, this level has some great gameplay but it’s not as strategical as DF3.
8.5/10
LV 2 SCORE: 17.5/20 (~8.8)
3. DISTORTED RESEARCH SITE
EYECANDY
Tileset used for this level is “Labrat P” which is a Palette edit of Labrat. The Layer 8 Textured BG has been cut in half which looks good and is original. Some might not like it. All Layers except 1 have been used.
Again, everything here is original and does not look repetitive. I like the moving background in Layer 7.
The platforms look great, Layers 2 & 3 have been used to place more eyecandy on the platforms.
8.5/10
GAMEPLAY
I would recommend using Carrotade/JJ2+ for this level as there are Death Pits here which can be opened by using TNT to blow up a Trigger Crate at the bottom. There are 3 PUs in this level, Bouncer & Toaster are two of these. They can only be accessed by shooting them with the Electro Blaster. Belt Left/Right events are also used to make the EB shoot further to reach the PU. The other PU is for the Blaster which can be found at the bottom near the Death Pits.
There is a 25 Coin Warp which contains a Fire Shield. As you are bounced down from a Spring that counts as Buttstomping it meaning you only get 15 seconds of use. This will be useful when you are trying to get your Flag to the other Base.
Coins are placed well and are not placed in 2×2 square forms which don’t look boring and are spread out so that they are not too easy to collect.
There are 3 “+1 Carrots.” No Full NRG carrots so that players cannot re-gain health too easily.
Overall, gameplay is very good in this level.

SUMMARY – GOOD POINTS
+Excellent eyecandy in all levels.
+Death Pits used in LV 3
+Flag placement good in all levels.
+Items not placed in 2×2 square forms.
+Excellent layout for all levels.
BAD POINTS
-Eyecandy in Level 3 may not appeal to all.

Do you really think I would not recommend this if I gave it over 9? This is also the FEATURED DOWNLOAD of May 2007 so why would you not download this? Obviously I’m saying YES! :D
@barca10: Are you using the TSF version(1.24) or 1.23? You can see what version you are using by loading up JJ2 and looking at the bottom right corner of the screen in the main menu.
I have played this pack before and decided to play through from Episode 1 all the way to 3. Unfortunately, I now get an Amnesia Error when I go to Level 7 (The Castle). I’m using 1.23+. I did save before LV7.
BTW, how do you do the deliberate Access Violations in Painful Purple Place?
EDIT: I used the original 1.23 and it worked.
The access violations are random.
LEVEL 1 – RAIN WOODS
EYECANDY
There are good backgrounds in Layers 6, 7 & 8. There’s also Rain in the Foreground but I think that it moves too slow. Layer 4 eyecandy looks repetitive though. The platforms look the same mostly.
5/10
GAMEPLAY
This level is far too linear. It is too easy to get through. When you fall into the pits, you don’t die. You should really use the CTF Instant Death trick in these pits. Level was too short. I could just run through it and use Jazz’s copter ears throughout mostly.
2/10
ENEMY PLACEMENT
There were only 8 enemies in this level. I counted them and that was really how many enemies there were in this entire level. Most of them were just Norm Turts and the others were Tuf Turts. The placement is poor as you could just hover or jump over them. 8 enemies is not enough to kill the player.
1/10
OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
There were absolutely NO obstacles in the entire level. Placement is non-existent.
0/10
ITEM & BONUS PLACEMENT
The only items in this level were Tomatoes and there wasn’t very many of them, only about 25. There was no ammo, no PUs or anything else. There was no Bonus Area.
1/10
LEVEL 1 TOTAL SCORE = 9/50
LEVEL 2 – DIVING DOWN
EYECANDY
The background is OK, but you can’t see all of it as you go further down. Layers 3 & 4 looked far too repetitive. There was nothing much else in the way of eyecandy here.
4/10
GAMEPLAY
This level was shorter than the first level. It was boring as all you were doing was swimming round shooting fish and then getting to an exit which I did in about 20 seconds.
1/10
ENEMY PLACEMENT
There were only 9 Fish in this level. They were poorly placed as you could easily swim past them.
1/10
OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
This level also has no obstacles, meaning placement is non-existent.
0/10
ITEM & BONUS PLACEMENT
The only items here were the 16 Melons placed in a boring 2 × 2 square form. No Bonus Area.
1/10
LEVEL 2 SCORE = 7/50
LEVEL 3 – BOSS 1: TOASTY
Note: I rate Boss levels differently to the main levels.
EYECANDY
Eyecandy is not bad in this level. I liked the background in Layers 6, 7 & 8. Layer 4 also looks OK.
7/10
GAMEPLAY
I quite liked how the Boss is done here. It was homemade. There is a destruct scenery block that you have to shoot lots of times to make a Trigger Crate drop out. I thought that a text event giving hints about this would have been good as first time players will have no idea what to do.
7.5/10
ITEM PLACEMENT
I think some of the Carrots would have been better as re-generating items. Don’t make them re-appear to often though. Put the longest dealy possible of the Full NRG carrot. Placement of these was good. But as I said, make them re-generate.
7/10
LEVEL 3 (BOSS 1) SCORE = 21.5/30
LEVEL 4 – CUTTED BURNS
EYECANDY
The backgrounds are good. I like the use of the lighting events in the caves though I think it was too dark sometimes to see where you are going. Layer 4 was OK too.
6.5/10
GAMEPLAY
The level was still too short. Though it was a bit harder this time. There was a cave to get through full of spikes. There are Hurt events in this level too meaning that you can get killed. Good level but still a bit short.
6/10
ENEMY PLACEMENT
Placement was OK but there wasn’t really that many enemies. More than LV1 & 2 but you could still hover over them with Jazz’s Copter Ears.
5/10
OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
There was an “Access Granted” block to find in order to access the cave. First time players would not have known where it is. But if playing for the second time you will finish the level even quicker. There wasn’t many other obstacles other than the Hurtand the Freeze Enemy events.
5/10
ITEM & BONUS PLACEMENT
There was some Chicken placed in this level though there wasn’t a lot of it. Not enough for a Sugar Rush. There was a Fly Carrot in the cave. There was also a hidden area with Float Up events used here and there was 9 Blue Gems at the end. I didn’t find this area the first time so it’s very well placed.
5.5/10
LEVEL 4 SCORE = 28/50
LEVEL 5 – DON’T FLY THIS AT HOME
EYECANDY
There was only the moving ships in the background and the grey blocks that the player has to follow. The moving ships would get annoying after a while and possibly give you a headache as they do move a bit fast.
3/10
GAMEPLAY
This was the most boring level in the pack. First you get an Airboard and then go through a sucker tube. Next you have to follow a path of grey blocks to some ship or something. I was doing this for 10 minutes and nearly resorted to quitting as I got so bored.
1/10
ENEMY PLACEMENT
The only enemies here are Bees and Floating Suckers. These enemies are easy to avoid and they do get annoying as that is they are the only enemies you will see throughout the entire level.
1/10
OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
Obstacles are non-existent here.
0/10 – I give this a zero as I think a level should at least have some obstacles.
ITEM & BONUS PLACEMENT
There are only Gems and Burgers all placed in the boring 2 × 2 square shapes. Nothing else here.
1/10
LEVEL 5 SCORE = 6/50
LEVEL 6 – BOSS 2: SPLOCK
EYECANDY
Layer 4 is slightly too repetitive but the backgrounds look great. I like the rain too.
7/10
GAMEPLAY
This Boss Arena is bigger than the first one. However, you are really doing the same thing as you did with Boss 1 except there are disappearing platforms which make it a bit harder.
6/10
ITEM PLACEMENT
Carrots are in the level and that’s all you really need in a Boss level. Since the level is bigger the placement of the Carrots is great.
8/10
LEVEL 6 (BOSS 2) SCORE = 21/30
LEVEL 7 – PISTON IT AWAY
EYECANDY
I like the backgrounds here though you need to improve the Layer 4 eyecandy as most of the platforms look the same.
4/10
GAMEPLAY
This level was a bit harder. Though you could still hover over nearly every enemy, there was a “Access Granted” trigger that you had to find. Once you found it, some trigger scenery would activate and you would have to go through a warp puzzle which I like though it is still a bit easy as you can just hover through it.
6/10
ENEMY PLACEMENT
As I said before you could just hover over most of the enemies so the placement isn’t that great.
2/10
ITEM & BONUS PLACEMENT
There was some cheese and some TNT (first new weapon at last) although there was not much use for it. It might have been good for some Bomb Scenery but there wasn’t any. There were 3 Morphs in the Warp Puzzle.
So placement was OK but still not many items.
5/10
OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
As I mentioned before there is the Trigger Zone, Trigger Scenery and the Warp Puzzle. Placement is OK though there wasn’t many more obstacles.
5/10
LEVEL 7 SCORE = 22/50
LEVEL 8 – LOST IN DARKNESS
EYECANDY
The backgrounds are great. Layer 3 is used for some leaves on one of the trees which I like. The Layer 4 eyecandy is still not that great though. Still a bit repetitive at times.
7/10
GAMEPLAY
This level was much harder. There was an “Access Granted” block to get up to by using the disappearing platforms which then opens up a passage through the tree on the right. The spike pits were done much better. If you fall into them Trigger Scenery activates so that you can’t jump or fly out. No checkpoints though which can be annoying. Level was still a bit short though.
7.5/10
ENEMY PLACEMENT
Placement of the enemies was better, you could get killed more easily as you couldn’t hover over many of them. There was a bigger variety of enemies including Dragonflies, Lizards, Dragons and Ghosts.
8/10
ITEM & BONUS PLACEMENT
There were a lot more items to pick up here. There was some Bouncer Ammo (wasn’t very useful though), Gems and quite a lot of Hams. There was also a Morph, though you could use Jazz anyway. So, good placement of the items.
7/10
OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
The disappearing platforms made the level harder which I quite liked. There was an “Access Granted” block to find in order to proceed and I liked the way those Spike pits were done.
9/10
LEVEL 8 SCORE = 38.5/50
LEVEL 9 (BOSS 3: DEBON)
EYECANDY
I really like the moving background. It looks as if the Spaceship is really moving. I like the design of the spaceship too.
10/10
GAMEPLAY
This Boss level is different to the other two. You have to touch the ? blocks one after the other. After that you touch the ! block to defeat the final boss. It was confusing figuring out what to do at first so text events would have been useful.
7/10
ITEM PLACEMENT
There are 4 Carrots that re-generate, this is good as you can get roasted easily. But I think they re-generate to quickly, try putting a longer delay on them.
I also think just 1 Full NRG Carrot might have been useful for emergencies, but set it to the highest delay possible.
8/10

While the boss levels are very well done and original, the main levels are not that great, though there was one or two very good levels. The levels did have great eyecandy but this pack was let down by how short the levels were. So, I’m afraid it’s no DR.
Normally I’d give an N/A if it’s 5 or more but I’ll be nice and give this download an N/A because it has some really cool features and the bosses are original.
EDIT: I just got a PM from Ischa saying that his levels are for beginners so next time I review another one of Ischa’s levels I will think about that.
Phew, my longest review ever. Over 1700 words!

5.7? This tileset is not worth that.
There are already several other Windows tilesets available, so is this one any better? Nope.
EYECANDY
This does not look anything like Windows Vista. This looks more like Windows 98 or 2000. Although there are Vista icons, they do look bad when used in 256 colours. The Taskbar is from XP not Vista. The backgrounds are not very good. The one you used in the example level is bad because you can see lines there. I do like the loading bar, that’s pretty cool.
There is a Windows 98 style background but it can’t be used in Layer 8. If used in that layer it will look a mess as it won’t tile properly.
There are no tiles that can be used in the Foreground (Layers 1 & 2) or the other 2 background layers (6 & 7).

USABILITY
This tileset is missing the very important basic JJ2 stuff. The Destruct, Buttstomp and Trigger scenery blocks are missing. There’s nothing to use for V/H-Poles.
The masking is OK, but I cannot find anything in this set that is useful for making a good level.

As this tileset is missing the basic JJ2 stuff, this set is not very useful. Also, the tiles appear grainy which doesn’t look good. So, no DR.
EYECANDY
The eyecandy in Layer 4 is still a mess. Don’t just randomly place tiles. They must join together otherwise there will be tilebugs which makes the level look bad. The background in the Easter levels was OK but it wasn’t so good seeing it floating in midair.

GAMEPLAY
I have no idea what’s going on in each level as all the text events are in Dutch. I seem to keeping going from one warp to another and that can get frustrating when getting warped back to the same place over and over.
1/10
PICKUP PLACEMENT
Still poor. Power-Ups (PUs) are everywhere. There was loads of Seeker PUs out in the open which makes the level too easy. Try putting them in a Bonus or Hidden area that is hard to access. Also, NEVER put Shields out directly in the open unless there is a good purpose for them. Make Shields hard to find. Never have more than one in a level.
1/10
ENEMY PLACEMENT
There were enemies everywhere. I could easily get killed. This made the levels far too hard to get through. Yes, hard levels are good but not ones that are near impossible to finish.
1/10
OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
There are lots of Trigger Crates to find in some levels. There is also the usual destruct & buttstomp scenery. So, Obstacles are OK but still not that hard to get through.

While each level has lots of obstacles it is very easy to get distracted by the bad eyecandy in Layer 4. So, no DR.
COMMENTS
1. Do not try to make a level in one day. It’ll take at least 2 weeks to get a good level made. Do not rush anything.
2. Test your levels now and again to make sure everything is working the way you want it to. I have to keep testing my levels everytime I make a change to them.
(EDIT – Forgot rating for pickup placement)
Before I review this, I’d like to mention that you should not upload this as a RAR file as it wouldn’t work properly when opened in J2O.
Anyway, lets get started. On first opening the file, I think “OMG, 54 levels!” But I then find it’s not so good.
EYECANDY
Some of the levels have good backgrounds but the eyecandy in Layer 4 is very bad, there are tilebugs everywhere. Some of the levels also had very bad backgrounds which looked a mess. Also, not many of the levels used animated tiles.

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay in this pack is poor. I have no idea where I’m going. Everywhere I go, there’s a Warp I’d never expect. There was even a checkpoint NEXT TO the exit sign in one of the levels. Why?

PICKUP PLACEMENT
Very poor. There are PUs everywhere. Some of them were even RE-GENERATING which would make the level too easy. Shields could also be found out in the open. There wasn’t enough food and there were Gems everywhere.
1/10
ENEMY PLACEMENT
There wasn’t very many enemies in this pack either. Not enough to kill me and the placement was bad.
1/10
OBSTACLE PLACEMENT
There was Buttstomp, Destruct & Trigger Scenery but they were all too easy to get through. Placement is not bad but it’s too easy to get through them.

Backgrounds are good in some levels but the eyecandy in Layer 4 in all levels is very bad. So, no DR.
COMMENTS
1. Think about what music you choose for each level. E.G. Christmas music in a Labrat level is not a good choice.
2. Spend a lot more time on your levels. Try thinking about how the level looks. It’s not about how many levels there are, it’s more about the quality of each level. Remember, QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY. ;)
@WR: You’ll have to open it in WinRAR as that’s what it was uploaded as (I think).
EYECANDY
This looks like it was rushed as the eyecandy is not very good. It does have a Layer 8 BG, and I do like those little moving penguins in Layers 6 & 7 but the Layer 4 eyecandy needs improving. It looks repetitive as the same blue tile is used a lot.

PLAYABILITY
There is a shop where you can buy weapons, carrots and other items. Unfortunately, the warps are right in the corner, meaning that the player gets stuck. NEVER place a warp in a corner, next to the wall or 1 tile under the ceiling. Place the warp AT LEAST 2 tiles AWAY from the wall. There was also a jet pack game using the Air Board where you avoid the obstacles although it was a bit too easy. I liked the loading % at the beginning of it. Get through this and you get 110 coins.
But there wasn’t much fun to be had anywhere else. There was also a Disco, Pizza Parlour and other places to see but they weren’t very good.

No
I can’t rate this as I don’t know where to start in reviewing this, so instead, I’ll just state my thoughts.
I think this is an excellent conversion of the Forest levels from the first Rayman game, though I haven’t played this game for about 2 years. It’s missing the water tiles though, but I see in the description that they are being worked on.
The masking is superb. Backgrounds aren’t masked which is good.
I see that you have included the music from the game as well, but one question. When I open it in Winamp, it says the song length is 20 mins 30 secs, why is that?
Overall, I think this is a great conversion and I would definitely RECOMMEND downloading it. Since it is a huge tileset though, some might find it hard to use.
If I was rating this, I’d probably give it about 8.0 – 8.5.
Are you gonna do conversions of the other levels?
