You want more reviews? Well here’s another.

This level is perhaps one of the BEST EVER I have played on JJ2.

EYECANDY: WOW! The eyecandy is MAGNIFICENT! I love the way the Story is presented in the intro. Very cool. LOTS of the tiles are used. No repetitive backgrounds or foregrounds. The Spaceship levels make it look as if you are really in Space. 10/10

GAMEPLAY: LOTS to do. The levels are VERY LONG AND HUGE. There are 15 levels in total in this pack (2 save points, 1 intro). There are TWO endings to get in the pack, a superb idea. The password system in one of the levels is a fantastic idea. 10/10

DIFFICULTY: This pack is hard, even on easy. On Hard, the puzzles are made much harder. 10/10

MUSIC: I really love the music used in this pack. All the music goes well with every level. 10/10

ENEMIES: Not too many or too less. Enemies are not found in annoying places like on the end of platforms. They are very well placed. The way the Bilsy bosses are used is SUPER. 10/10

OBSTACLES: There are LOTS of obstacles on each level. Hidden Destruct Scenery, secret passages, lots of Trigger Crates and lots of Trigger Zones to find. 10/10

EVENTS: The eventing used in this pack is REMARKABLE! I love the way the Escape Pod moves with Jazz in it. The way the TNT events are used in the Spaceship are also fantastic. 10/10

TOTAL: 70/70 (10.0)

BONUSSES:
This pack is compatible with 1.23, so you don’t need TSF to play this. +0.5
The whole pack is only just under 200KB. It’s amazing that you can fit that many levels in just that size. +0.5
TOTAL BONUS = +1.0

FINAL MARK = 11/10
But it will have to be 10 since scores like that are impossible. I would have done 11 if it was possible.

DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATION?

Darn right, I reccomend this! So, what are you waiting for? Download this NOW!

GRADE: S (Better than A!)

BTW, this is my second 10 rating now!

@Donda97 & Lori98: READ the level description. There’s a link you can click on to download the music and tilesets. Otherwise if EvilMike did include the tilesets and music, the level pack would be OVER 5MB and the limit on J2O is 2MB.

OK, I’ve never reviewed Hotels before so here goes.

NAPOLEON HOTEL REVIEW:

EYECANDY: I love the Tileset. The level is set out just like a Hotel. The Rooms look great. Only Layers 4, 5 and 8 were used but they were used very well. Eyecandy has improved now, the mountain background makes it look like that you are climbing a mountain during the Mountain Climbing part. 9.5/10

BUGS: There was a bug in the Pool, the water kept disappearing and re-appearing and Jazz/Spaz/Lori wouldn’t swim in it. The bug in the rooms is now fixed. Unfortunately, I dunno how to fix the Pool bug. I will look at the level to see what’s wrong. 9/10

FUN FACTOR: There was lots to do in this hotel. Quiz, Tests, Sports, Battle and Mountain Climbing. I loved them all. The Tests were very hard. I thought the Quiz was a great idea. I never thought of doing that. 9/10

PICKUPS: There are lots of Gems and Coins and a Fast Feet pickup in the Mountain Climb. I don’t know what the coins were for but I’m guessing they were for the Shop. When I went to buy an item the number of coins didn’t decrease. But the coins were very well placed. 9/10

TOTAL: 36.5/40 (9.125)
Since I can’t do 9.1 or any scores to 2/3 decimal places, I will put the nearest to that which is a 9.2

DR: Yes.
Host: Yes, in Battle.

EDIT: I have looked at the level and still dunno what’s causing Jazz/Spaz/Lori to not swim. You have typed in the correct numbers in the Height but I just can’t work out why the character cannot swim.

EDIT 2: I gave this 9.2?!

WOW! This is a BIG improvement on Bjarni’s previous levels.

JUNGLE RABBIT REVIEW:

I haven’t played the multiplayer levels yet so I’ll review the SP levels now.

EYECANDY: You used all the Layers which makes the eyecandy look great. The backgrounds are nice, I like the Jungle background. 7/10

GAMEPLAY: It got a bit repetitive as you were mostly destroying blocks and enemies. Also, you were going up & down quite a lot. 6/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES: There was a bit too many enemies used in the SP levels. I had to use Spaz’s kick move to kill them all. Killing them with weapons was a bit hard especially when there was about 100 of them. There was obstacles in the level as well. There was a Trigger Crate in one of the levels which you had to blow up with TNT. There was lots of Destruct Scenery also. 7/10

PICKUPS: There was loads of Seeker ammo. Not that much is really needed. It was needed to beat the witch. There was a Shield in the Water level but I couldn’t work out how to get it. It was sitting on a Electro Blaster icon block. So maybe there’s some EB ammo somewhere. 6/10

MUSIC: The music did get a bit repetitive as only the JJ2 Jungle music was all you could hear. Try to use different music for other levels as well. 6.5/10

REVIEW OF SOME DEMO:

LEVEL 1 – WELCOME TO THE GARDEN

Not enough eyecandy was in the level. Hardly anything could be seen in the background. Too short, I had no idea where I was going. Too much Seeker ammo, this wasn’t needed.

LEVEL 1 RATING: 2/10

LEVEL 2 – MARINATED RABBIT

Still not enough eyecandy. Hardly anything in the background. One of the Text events was too long. Too many enemies in Hard. I had problems finding the exit. Try putting an exit sign in the level so we know where to go.

LEVEL 2 RATING: 3/10

LEVEL 3 – SUPER SPAZ BROS

Already reviewed this so I’ll keep this short. Eyecandy not good. Blue background and clouds can be seen. You could have removed the Bonus level so that the game would not have crashed. Too many enemies. Useless pipe at beginning. Would be better with Sucker Tube events. Devan on top of castle was pretty cool.

LEVEL 3 RATING: 3/10

LEVEL 4 – [CENSORED] DEMO

Too short. No obstacles. There was a Devan Boss AND the Robot Boss which was not needed. You only need ONE Boss not 2 at once. Nice background. Layers used correctly.

LEVEL 4 RATING: 5/10

LEVEL 5 – A COLD DAY IN HECK:

Too short. Too many enemies, Bats & Ravens. Useless Freezer Power-Up can be found at the end of the level. I quite like the title.

LEVEL 5 RATING: 3/10

LEVEL 6 – POKEMON WORLD

I like the Pokemon. Level was quite short. There was a bug with the Devan Boss, he ran off the screen. Level could not be finished so I had to JJNXT to move on. I did like the way you used the Pokedex to say about the Pokemon and the different enemies.

LEVEL 6 RATING: 5/10

TOTAL: 21/60 (3.5)

So NOT good.

SUPER SPAZ BROS REVIEW:

EYECANDY: What eyecandy? All I could see was a blue background and clouds in Level 1 and a black background in Level 2. I couldn’t see the point of that useless pipe at the beginning. It would have been better if you maybe put some Sucker Tube events there. 1/10

GAMEPLAY: I had this whole pack finished in 30 seconds. All the levels were too short. There was a bonus level in Level 1 which can be accessed by collecting the very poor placed 125 coins. This bonus level contained 28 useless 1UPs, some pointless powerups and some useless ammo like Seekers, Flamethrowers and TNT and a Shield with about 100 extra time clocks but the shield didn’t work back in Level 1. 1/10

PICKUPS: OMG!!! There was way too many. I already mentioned the pickups in Level 1. In level 2 there was another 242 1UPs and nothing else to pick up. 1/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES: What obstacles? There wasn’t any. There was too many Floating Lizards at the start of level 1 which you could just fly over on the Airboard. Too many in Level 2. There were 2 Bosses, Devan’s Robot and Schwartzenguard. These were too easy. The 3D Spike Ball was moving way too slow to cause damage. 1/10

MUSIC: The choice of music here was not good. Carrottus does not fit in a Mario level. Medivo didn’t fit very well in the 2nd level either although it was dark. 1/10

TOTAL: 5/50 (1)

DR: No

When you make levels you need to spend lots of time on them. My level pack took over 1 month to make and I had to keep testing to make sure that all the levels work.

OK, I tested this in Winamp and JJ2. It works in both of these! So this music could be used in a JJ2 level. I do like this music but I dunno how to rate music so I’ll just leave it as N/A.

[While the tune works in WinAmp and JJ2, it gets distorted while being played in those. To fully experience the song’s quality, do listen to it with Modplug Tracker like the author recommends. ~Cooba]

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to use Modplug Tracker. Tried it once, just couldn’t understand it. I also tried Modplug Player but I just didn’t know how to use it.

LOL. I had no idea how to use JCS when I first got JJ2. I made a level once in about 1998 but the background was so bad coz I had nothing in Layer 8. Now I have got better at JCS as I submitted my first ever level pack to J2O.

Anyway, this level was quite bad but this was your first level ever and I don’t think we all knew how to use JCS in 1997, 98 or 99.

[Seeing as JJ2 was released in 1998, I indeed doubt anyone in the community knew how to use JCS in 1997. ~Cooba]

MENACE TO WONDERS REVIEW:

EYECANDY: Really nice backgrounds, some fantastic Tilesets used very well. All the levels look great. 10/10

GAMEPLAY: The levels were quite long. The puzzles made them quite a bit harder. 7 fantastic levels. I’ll go into more detail about the puzzles later. You can also replay the whole pack again to try and find the 21 TNT to access the Bonus Level. 9.5/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES: Lots of obstacles. I especially like the Collapsing scenery in Level 4. Enemies were very well placed. Not too many or too less. I loved the way you used the crates to make it appear as if there were enemies coming out of the crates. 10/10

PUZZLES: I think all the puzzles were great. I liked them all. My fav puzzle in this pack was the Maze. I love Mazes. I really thought the first puzzle in Level 5 was great, getting the first set of blocks to match the other set. Very well done. 10/10

MUSIC: I didn’t hear any music in Level 5 & 7 but I did like the music in the other levels. 9/10

DEVAN’S GONE MAD REVIEW:

EYECANDY: Very poor. I think you used Layers 4 & 8. You must also use Layer 5, 6 or 7 if you want a good background. There was hardly any background in Muckamok. There was little Eyecandy in the Jungle level. The Exit sign in the Muckamok level was facing the WRONG way. 1/10

GAMEPLAY: There was hardly any. I finished the whole level pack in 20 seconds. You could also fall off very easily. 0/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES: No obstacles, not even any Buttstomp or Destruct scenery were in any of these levels. Very few enemies can be found in both levels. 1/10

PICKUPS: There was some useless Bouncer and Seeker ammo in Level 1. There was also only about 10-20 gems. There was a pointless Electro Blaster Power-Up at the beginning of Level 2 (Muckamok). Hardly any pick ups could be found in either of these 2 levels. All of the other weapons were not even needed. 1/10

TOTAL = 3/40 (0.75)

BONUSSES/MINUSSES:

No bonusses.
Very poor choice of music in the Jungle level. -0.25

OVERALL MARK: 0.75 – 0.25 = 0.5
But it will have to be a 1 since scores below that are impossible on J2O.

If you do make Part 2, make sure it is longer and much bigger. Also, make sure there is more than 2 levels.

Wow, the Gems sure looked different in the early JJ2. The numbers at the bottom of the screen (lives, ammo) were smaller too. The icon for the Blaster weapon was different also.
Anyway, great work in making an early JJ2 tileset now usable.

EDIT: I’ve just noticed that there wasn’t a score counter.

EDIT 2: Are there any other early JJ2 Tilesets that didn’t make it in the final version?

[Yes. There’s Diamondus Beta which I linked to in the download description, the differently drawn Inferno, and an entirely different background in the Damn levels. Feel free to message me for the screenshots. ~Cooba]

SPAZ MISSION REVIEW:

EYECANDY: The Tilesets were used quite well especially the Beach level. There could have been more Eyecandy in the other levels. 7/10

GAMEPLAY: The levels were quite long and hard to finish. But the enemies made it far too hard. Level 8 was just a short Boss level with no items at all. 5/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES: Now this is the part that really let this pack down. There were way too many enemies in all of the levels, especially in Level 1, far too many Bees. Yes, having enemies in levels is good but not over 100 of them. Shooting enemies all the time can get boring. 5/10

MUSIC: There’s no point in rating this since it was the JJ2 music. N/A

PICKUPS: There was a bit too many Gems in Level 2 (about 300). The coins were quite hard to find. There wasn’t many 1UPs though so getting Extra Lives would be hard. 6/10

TOTAL = 23/40 (5.75)
Rounded to 5.7

PLUSSES/MINUSSES:

The End Boss text event in Level 3 said “Level 1 Clear!”. No points will be deducted.
I really liked the way you could see what was coming up in the Jungle level. +0.5
There was a bug in the Jungle level. The Bubba boss ended up going off the screen. -0.2

SINGLE-PLAYER TIME REVIEW:

EYECANDY: The JJ2 Tilesets may have been used but they were used very well all the levels look great. It was a bit confusing in the Tubelectric level as you said but I think that was the whole idea anyway. 9.5/10

GAMEPLAY: There may only be 4 levels but these are very long. This pack took me about 1 hour to finish which is very good. 10/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES: I think there was a bit too many Sparks in the Very Very Voltage level but this will not affect the score too much. The puzzles in the levels were great. Looking for the crates in the Street Gangs level was fun. I also liked the puzzle in the 1st level. Memorising the symbols was quite challenging. I liked the way it reminded you to remember the 4th symbol when you get to the last warp puzzle. The puzzle in the Pancake Hills was great too, choose the wrong warp and it’s back to the beginning of the level. 9.5/10

MUSIC: I really loved the music in all the levels. I especially loved the music in the Street Gangs level. 10/10

OTHER POINTS:

Never hide the starting level in the HC list. This will not affect the score in any way. Just remember to not hide the starting levels next time.

RUNNING RABBIT REVIEW:

EYECANDY: After replaying this level today, I decided to re-think the rating for the eyecandy because I now feel it is a bit overrated. Backgrounds are a bit dull, nothing in Layers 6 or 7. The tiling is not that great. So this is the part that let the level down. 7/10

GAMEPLAY: You don’t even have to press a SINGLE button. Spaz just moves by himself. A really great idea. How long did it take to get this right? 10/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES: Spaz just bashes through the obstacles by himself without having to even press a single button. There was a small bug with the floating lizards, Spaz just stopped. This won’t affect the score too much. I love the way the Pacman ghosts are used. 9/10

MUSIC: The music you have chosen is very well suited to this level. 10/10

LEVEL – The Journey of Jazz

EYECANDY:

There was a lot more Eyecandy than in the previous version. However it made it hard for me to see were to go in the “Cave of the CRATE.” 6/10

GAMEPLAY:

Basically just hit all the Trigger Crates. Find one in the cave and then get to the exit. This is OK but as Janus says destroying crates all the time is not so much fun. I stopped playing after about 2 minutes coz it just got a bit repetitive. 6/10

OBSTACLES/ENEMIES:

There were lots of obstacles. Only I think there was a bit too many. Try to reduce the number of Trigger Crates to be buttstomped. The Cave was really hard but couldn’t see the way to go coz of the background. 6/10

PICKUPS:

There was some. TNT at the beginning to destroy some of the crates. But no other uses for it. 4/10

MUSIC:

I think the music was pretty good. Never heard it before. Goes quite well with the level. 7.5/10

BONUSSES:

I shall give you an extra 0.5 for effort and for trying to make the level better.
