Though it´s not bad at all (it´s nice!!!), I´ve seen better assault levels.

I like the gameplay of it, it is really good, but I don`t like the tileset..

Download recommedation!

A briliant new gameplay mode. Sadly, the level lacks in eyecandy.

A very old, cool levelpack. I remember the levels were quite fun to play.

Battle Arena: bad eyecandy..the tiles were variated a lot, but layers were barely used.
Good open design. Is it done on purpose that most of the level is built so that it tries to send you upwards?

Syntax’s Dungeon: Pretty much the same really.. under-average eyecandy, but neat design.

Free for all: one of my favorite syntax levels. The design is awesome. It’s circular, and very fun to play. The eyecandy is good. It still doesn’t use layers, but it looks like it was taken care of better. It doesn’t bother me this time.

Out of This World: Again quite nifty design. Good use of lightning.

Seaside skirmish: A small level with good design. Eyecandy is nothing special.

Sunken Warehouse: some might remember this level from jdc. Very neat circular design, and very fun to play. The eyecandy again isn’t spectacular.. the level has quite some bugs.

Deserted tunnels: design is good. Eyecandy is better. The bg layers are a little full, but the effect is nice

Overall: a pack containing very well designed levels. I don’t care that much for the eyecandy because these levels are designed so well and are so fun to play..

This is a great old pack (was originally released in early 1999) consisting of seven very original levels using the following tilesets: Castle (2), MEZ01 (2), MEZ02, Beach and Tube Electric (in this order).

The design of the levels is very, very good (platform style, circular und therefore fluently playble). Apart from that, i really love the way Syntax used MEZ’s tilesets. Pretty creative! The layer work is also quite impressive and original.
Of course, some levels are better than others but the overall quality of the pack is pretty high.
The music doesn’t always fit but that doesn’t annoy me too much.

In my opinion, this is DEFiNITELY WORTH THE DiSKSPACE and all battle and CTF fans (you can play it in both modes) should have a lot of fun with it! DOWNLOAD NOW! It’s close to a J2 classic, i’d say.[This review has been edited by Aiko]

Well, i have to admit that, when this level pack came out in summer 1999, i really liked it a lot!
“Project Testudon” includes three levels using Beach, Tube Electric and the “bright” version of Mez’s third tileset (MEZ03a).
The pack had and still has some fresh ideas and used a style of event placement that is still unique.
The actual level design is above the average…pretty good. Lots of platforms and secret rooms (which are dead ends sometimes so the author has to use some warps to make it circular). Eyecandy is existant but there isn’t TOO much of it :-) Some people may complain about the tile placement…it may seem kinda weird in some places, but it’s not made without sense, i guess.
The level i liked most back then was “Power Generator” and the main reason was the music: “ALLIANCE” by DRAX/Vibrants is another masterpiece from the scandinavian tracking scene and it fits perfectly for a MEZ03 level and to the whole atmosphere. Very good choice!
Well, despite the fact “Project Testudon” doesn’t fit into a certain category, i like it because of it’s originality and the insane event placement. My advice: DOWNLOAD NOW RiGHT NOW and figure “it” (whatever that may be) out!

P.S.:
Devan doesn’t think forward, he thinks backward.

This is very linear. HAH! You can’t poke my eyes because I have glasses! Nyah :P

J/K.

Seriously though, I’m not sure how to rate this. The levels can be played in any mode you want, although they would probably work best as battle. They are all layed out OK, but I can’t actually say they have a good layout. Because of the fact that they are compatible with so many modes (especially singe player) makes the layout suffer. The small rooms with the signs and the large amount of warps is probably the biggest problem. As I said, this is very hard for me to rate. I give it a 6.2/10 for providing an interesting experience.

I think this is an annoying level. The largeness doesn’t save this level. Weapon placement is bad, and eye candy is poor. The "start.j2l" level didn’t have background at all.

Lag really is a major setback, I tried to play htis over the network with Distruct on my other P200mmx, but even on the lowest detail and stuff he was waaay too slow to do anyhting. I’d say 233mhz will still be a bit slow, a P2 233mhz is minimum requirements, If you want to run this on a proper speed I’d say P2 300mhz should be enough. The lag might be a big problem, but the design of the level is out of this world, If you have a good enough PC you have to see this, the concept and design is just awesome! The same as Assault from Unreal Tournament, I hope you enjoy :)
