Bet this episode deserves a 3D version from the Unreal Development Kit. That would be awesome.
Not that it isn’t ok in 2D.
Way small and poor, although the ammo tree idea was pretty good.
And why are there 2 musics for one level?
… What the heck is this?
It is waaay ugly and monotonous, AND the 75% of it is nothing but empty tiles!
Please, don’t use any of the Triggers and Scenery events on mirrored tiles.
THAT causes access violation!
Thank you for using my stuff! {:-D
No layers 5-6, composable layer 7, lack of colors, scarce eyecandy, dull sky textures, copies of Jazz, Spaz and Lori, no outside slopes, pointless big bricks tile, ugly graffiti, a smoker …
I really don’t know how it got so many positive comments! I find it way useless.
Very small, lack of colors, lack of eyecandy, squared, lack of usable backgrounds …
At least some textures are beautiful.
5 strings only? Come on! You could at least write “Double Idler” and “Home and Alone mode”, or “discard a gametype”.
5 strings only. What the hell!
It is the original JJ1 episode into JJ2.
Things like these are not really amazing.
It would be muuuch better if it was made with some tileset remakes, if there actually were any.
Do you imagine Turtemple in JJ2?
10×7 mountain with temple on layer 8
8×6 mesas on layer 7
9×5 dunes with tents and palms on layer 6
6×3 shrubs and bones on layer 5
It has really good graphics, and it is nice to see. But the leaves are composable, and that makes the forest appear too squared!
And the layer 5 is used as sprite background. That disgusts me.
Layers 6-7 are beautiful, but only usable on 640×480, while 320×240 is the default SP resolution. (Labrat, Hell, Damn)
Anyway, this tileset is rich!
To be a remake from JJ1 to JJ2, this tileset does not follow the Nick Stadler style at all, and it is not even really nice to see.
I mean … Layers 7 and 6 are composable tiles. I do not like composable tiles on those layers. And NO LAYER 5 by the looks of it. Layers 5-7 should be 10×7 pictures.
And the toxic tower is DITHERED!!! Wth
It is a really good BETA/DEMO, but it does not fully fit for cooperative mode (elevator level crate), and it uses the background layers in a weird way, of which the layer 5 as sprite background layer.
AND many of the tileset elements are imported from Donkey Kong, which gives it a touch of unoriginality.
Good thing it is easy to play.
I really do not like the usage of those very old 4 bit game tilesets in Jazz 2.
Besides, these ones lack of elements.
AND they are in TSF when they’re way smaller than 1K tiles.
LEVEL 1
The first level is actually an intro. It is made with a classical JJ1 tileset, Battleships. I do not think the classical tilesets fit in JJ2. Anyway, it is supposed to be a cutscene, and unfortunately there is another problem: The text string event is used for the talk. It is way different from the classical JJ2 level style, even though it is probably supposed to. And the spaceship does not look really elaborated, since you used someone else’s tileset.
LEVEL 2
This level is in a huge tundra. What I do not like of Disguise’s tileset is that it has one only BG layer, the purple mesas. Anyway, you made a very good usage of this tileset, by placing occasional enemies all around, and 4 silver crates to open the gate … even though it does not really look like a gate, but just like cubes of ice. Anyway, it is fun to struggle through the tundra, I mean, It is challenging! If you do not watch your step, you risk to fall off, and Devan’s goons just do not help you. By the way, this level has a bonus with coins!
LEVEL 3
This is Devan’s fortress in Nippius. Unfortunately, you use the classical Nippius tileset. Classicas tilesets are awful in modern levels. This level is very hard, and you need a good timing! It is challenging, because there are a lot of secrets to discover, like the ice cave and the portals to parallel universes. And the music … is weird! i do not like it at all, mostly because it is imported from somewhere else.
I will stop here. This episode is way rich, yet way poor. And when you try to save, the savefiles breaks down! Anyway, I saw Kejero’s tilesets. Theyr parts are mostly imported from Donkey Kong. They suck! Donkey Kong just does not fit into Tomb Raider! And simply Nick Stadler did never import stuff from other games. He always made the tilesets 100% by himself!
My final rating … I will not give one, because I probably do not have enough good reasons to rate it good or bad.
And avoid the foul language as much as you can when you make a jazz 2 level (3+ pegi)
The “sex” cell is disallowed on public J2O levels. It can barely be used on the server.
You are still a newbie, but I also wasn’t good at levelmaking when I first time used JCS.
Done, mr. Cooba.
Now there’s no commercial track.
