This Fastrack.j2b won’t even do anything, its just a blank file. And that “Good Background” is just ripped from the Epic Tubelectric levels.

Atmospherical is a small/medium sized CTF level by Darksonic using the War Torn tileset. Unlike many levels with this tileset, it doesn’t look a like a Distopia clone :p. This also his best level yet in my opinion.

EYECANDY
I like the way the tileset is used in this level, it has some EC you wouldn’t normaly see with this tileset. Those caves look a bit boring though, they should have more vareity, but they still seem to get the job done in this level. There is rain on layer 1, which I haven’t seen anyone use it in any other War Torn levels. :D The music choice (Ascent.s3m) gives the level a unique atmosphere combined with the rain and other stuff. (Hence the name atmospherical :p). The background looks awesome too.
4.4/5

GAMEPLAY
In most of his levels, Darksonic has made a simple, solid layout that is usally symectrical. The layout in this level however is different from the rest. It has quite a bit of strategy, and it isn’t too linear or one-way.
The gameplay is fast paced, and the flow is good, but like P4ul said some of the springs cause you too hit the celings :(.
The placement is good too, the ammo is placed in shapes rather than boring 2×2 squares. There are two power-ups, RF and Bouncer, but they are a bit too close to the bases. I suppose that doesn’t really matter that much though. There is 1 Full energy carrot in this level, which is the middle (Good :D).
4/5

GOOD POINTS
  • Nice Atmosphere
  • Good Layout
  • Cool Background
BAD POINTS
  • Caves could use more vareity
  • Some Springs are buggy

In general I think this is a very nice level but it does have a few flaws.

It seems that Gus has decided to make a tileset conversion instead of an original tileset like he usally makes.

Holdiday Hare Cloudy is an edit of the Holdiday Hare tileset (obviously :p), but the whole set is just a palette edit with a few extra tiles. (This reminds me of someone :p). There are now rain, snow and lightning tiles, some more background stuff, and some of the “Gus Tiles”, like the famous Gus logo, custom food and little cartoon people. To be honest, all most all of these additions don’t this set any more usable, except the storm tiles and the extra background tiles.
The palette edit was pretty lazy. It’s a paler version of the day palette, with a grey textured background, and paler sprite colours. Not much effort had gone into fixing any of the bugs in this tileset, such as tiling bugs and masking. I’d also like to see more angles for the caves, they only have horizontal borders avalible. There’s loads Gus could of done to make this a truly awesome conversion, but he just ignored it all and just focused the conversion on the EC additions.

This a good try for your first conversion Gus, it is much better than my first conversion. Try and take into mind what I have said here now. Then you could make great conversions.

Download: While I would probably never use this, it’s worth a look at.

Green Paradise is a medium/large Battle level using my Jungle Paradise Tileset conversion. TripleJ seems to like using my conversions which no one else used or liked. Now for the review:

This level has the same, overused EC as in most Jungle levels. There are a lot of EC things in this set, and TripleJ has only used a few things. The background is kind of original though, but thats only because of the additions in this conversion :|. I don’t like the Purple fade colour for the Textured Backgound much, use a light colour next time. There are some more Diamond trees at the bottom of the level on layers 1 and 2, and they move way too fast, and they kind of clutter up the place. There are loads of the same leaf clusters (reminds me of the bushes from Diam B levels) placed on layer 3 all over the level. They seem to be randomly placed without any thought. Next time use a larger vareity of EC. But I must say, it still looks nice while playing it.

The Gameplay is quite a dissapointment :(. The flow was rather sloppy. There a lot of places that need one way events, like all that wooden stuff. This is one of the main causes of the bad flow, since I go under a wooden platform with a dead end, I try to jump out but there’s No One Way event so I have to just turn around, which spoils the flow by a lot. a lot of springs through you into celings and walls, and there are some more dead ends like in 82,24. There should be a one way event on the ground above it, which would make the flow much better. This level requires a lot of Jumping to get around.

The ammo placement was average too. A lot of ammo is the simple, boring 4 ammo squares. Make some more intressting shapes next time. Also don’t use Ice in battle, it is just pointless. For a level this size there should be more ammo. Another problem this level has is there is only 1 carrot in the whole level. There should be more carrots in a level this size, or that carrot could be replaced by a full energy carrot. There is also a coin warp that costs 20 coins which gives you an RF PU. There aren’t very many coins in this level, so it takes a long time to get it.

I think the EC is a bit repetitive but it still manages to look nice, but the Gameplay and Placement could use a lot of improvements. One important thing through is that this level is a lot better than your last one. If you follow the advice in this review and spend a bit more time, you’ll make great levels. I’m going to rate this 7.1.

Download: Maybe.

Jungle 2.0 is an improved version of Jungle, but it could still be better.
P4ul has given it a new layout, which was a very good move. (I couldn’t use Jungle very well until I downloaded this :P) However, the layout was made up by taking large areas of the tileset and moving them around. It would of been better if you made a layout of only 1 or 2 tiles at a time. I think the diagonals should of been closer to the top, and the textured BG should go at the bottom.
Some layout areas were very good, like the way he took all the wooden tree stuff and placed it all together to make it easier to use.

The addtions include Trees from the OEM Jungle (Yay :D), rain and lightning tiles, waterfalls,
bushes wierd white tiles at the top, a hook, and leaf tiles to be used as caves.
I like the trees from the OEM Jungle, but they should be a bit lighter. The Rain tile looks ok, but it could be better if it had a more rain drop like shape. The Lightning is not that good though, it needs to look more like lightning. The hook is a bit too small. I like the BG leaves but like the OEM trees they need to be a bit lighter. The grey/green destruct blocks are good, but maybe you should make blend with the rest of the set like in Diamondus Beta. Also, the arrow signs have been replaced with Inferno arrows. I personally think the old arrows look better in Jungle, but this won’t effect the rating. But the waterfalls and the bushes are just Blah. The bushes use less colours than they used to, which makes them look ugly. While the waterfalls look good in this set, they are becoming overused in tileset conversions, so they are becoming boring. Why not make your own waterfalls? If you aren’t bothered to make your own, either use them from a tileset other than Diamond Dust or edit them so they could be used on layer for by adding extra
connecting tiles.

Some of the old EC has been removed like the water reflection tiles but I can forgive you for that because size was an issue. Also the background foliage has been extended. I think you could of been more creative with the additions though, levels made with this won’t look much different to levels made with the standard Jungle. There are 3 palettes: The standard one plus 2 new ones. My favourite is the Evening version; the storm version is still a bit too dark for me. Also, the mask has been fixed.

While there is serveral stuff that could be improved on, it’s still a good conversion.

Download Reccomendation.

@Cooba: Lol…I know. :p I’m not going to use them in future tilesets. And you made a good point Cooba. His rating is now 8.2.

EDIT – I’ve decided it doesn’t deserve an 8.2 now. 90% of the aditions are ripped, and that example level really disguise the true quality of this set. (It makes the set look a lot better than it actually is, but this wont affect the rating.) Those background leaves that I thought were your’s were actually ripped from Omen Woods. Even if they were actually made by you, I still think you should make some new leaves not used before.
I don’t now why you people see this set as “an amazing conversion.” It’s still pretty decent though.

EDIT – Those OEM trees just look so cool, that I’m increasing the rating.
And please don’t complain Cooba, even I made all of these mistakes in my own conversions, it doesn’t mean I should rate this conversion any higher. 7.9 is my final rating, and I won’t change it.

This must be the best conversion in the world!

This is the old diamondus from 1997 re-made into j2t format. This has a entirely different feel from the original diamondus. Everything from the old diamondus is here: Trees, caves, signs, background stuff, and everything else, but it also has a lot more to offer than the original diamondus. Features include: Animating Gems in the walls, ground tiles without grass, 45 degree slopes, waterfalls, and so much more. Level made with this set look so much better than level used with the boring old version. It’s also a lot easier to make original stuff since it has a lot more things it can do. And to just make things better, Pyromanus has added a custom textured background.

Another reason that this is one of my favourite tilesets to use is its layout. Everything is neatly arranged in this, making it extremely easy to use. In fact, it’s so easy to use that it is easier to use than the original diamondus. The mask is perfect, too. I can’t find any tiling errors or mask bugs at all in this set. Everything joins together perfectly. Well done!

Pyromanus has made 3 extra palettes along with the old ones. They are: Garden, Lava and Midnight. In the garden palette the ground has changed to a nice shade of grey, along with other colour changes to give it a very “gardeny” feel. The lava version has a lot of redness in the colour, the waterfalls have gone to a yellowy lava colour. This would be good for a sort of “Hell in Diamondus” level. In the midnight version everything has been darkened (even the sprite colours), an it has a cool wood colour for the trees. Out of these custom palettes, my favourite was the Garden version.

This is a perfect conversion and you must download this now.

LABRAT
Now I kinda like this. The bad layout of the old layout of the original labrat has been changed into a much easier, better laid out layout. The addtions are: Arrow signs, an exit sign pointing left, some Jazz 1 signs, a Textured Background, and the fans from Tube electric. But the the last and most important addition here was there are now slopes to use. There are now cool destruct blocks with coloured weapon sprites on them for every weapon (even freezer :p). The one bad point to this conversion however, is the custom palettes. Labrat 4 seemed to look ok, but Labrat 5 and 6 were ugly.
4/5

TUBE ELECTRIC
Wow! This one rocks! In this conversion Noka has made another good layout to make the set easier to use. All the custom palettes look pretty neat here. My favourite thing is the additions though. All the additions have been used creatively to give the set a JJ1 element. This includes: Belts, the blue flashing background, directional arrows, background bricks, and a Textured Background. There is tons more EC than in the original Tube Electric set. I’ll go mad if I see any more level using the old Tubelectric set. If you really want to make a tubelectric level, USE THIS!
5/5

LETNI
NOW THIS IS HOW ALL CONVERSIONS SHOULD BE. In this conversion re-coloured block from various sets (mostly Tubelectric) have been used along with custom drwan tiles to make the ultimate JJ2 style Letni. The layout is so well laid out, as well as being one of the easiest sets to use in the world. The palettes all look exelent and are the best out of the entire pack. All the EC you could wish for is in this set: Electronic cables, flashing lights, laser beams, magnetic fields, computers, circuit boards, the list is too long to write here. You can be so creative with this set, that it should’nt be hard to make something original. This is by far the best conversion in this pack.

Lets’a go!

PALETTE EDITS
In this conversion of Diamondus, BlurredD has changed the colours on the soil to a sand/earth brown. The TB gradient has been changed to a much lighter shade of blue. The wood gradient has less green and has been darkened. The grass gradient has been changed to a darker green. This palette, gives Diamondus a much happier and calmer feel than before. It does hurt your eyes after a bit, seeing lots and LOTS of Brown.
There is also a night version. The soil has been changed to black/blue colour. The TB is now dark blue. The BG trees are now completly a lilac/blue colour. The wood is now a redish brown. The grass it now an olive/green colour. The wood in the night version is lighter than that of the day version, so doesn’t make much sense. However, most night versions of tilesets are too dark, but this is fine and would have no problems using this.
4/5

ADDITIONS
The additions are the main reason that this conversion got a high rating. There are some BG cave tiles, that look ugly in JCS, but in game they look amazing. BlurredD has extended the mountain BG by adding 2 extra water tiles, so that that the mountains can be extended as high as you want. These can also be used to extend the BG trees. And finally, the third and best addition was the waterfalls. They are just beautiful. The animation is clean and flawless. Even with just addition of the waterfalls alone, it would still be a good edit. Well done, BlurredD!
5/5

BUG FIXES
Quite a few of the bugs in Diamondus have been fixed. To start with, some of the famous mask bugs have been fixed. There are now some Vertical cave borders, but they don’t join to the diagonal borders very well. Another bug that has been fixed is the cave spikes, which now have their backgrounds updated. One bug which still exists in this tileset is tile 1,40, which is still too dark. If this was fixed and the vertical borders fitted to the diagonal borders perfectly, then this would of been a bug free tileset.
4/5

LAYOUT
The layout is exactly the same as in the original Diamondus. I won’t give marks for this, but it would of been better if you had made your own, improved layout.

GOOD POINTS
*The colours on the Day version look quite nice
*The night version isn’t too dark
*The Waterfalls…
*The spikes have had their BG’s updated

Why are there ratings like 9.2, 8.2 and 7.0? It’s just a pointless palette edit!

This conversion has a sort of spooky, dead, dreary theme of Diamondus. All the colours have been changed to really boring shades of greys, browns and purples. The BG stuff is completly black and white, making it look dull and boring. The grassy stuff has been changed to a yucky shade of pale green/brown. The soil is now a very pale shade of purple, which doesn’t appeal to me either. You should of used more/better colours. Nothing has been changed on the technical side; everything still has the same flaws. The only new thing are 3 tiles saying: “Tileset by Evilmike”.
This set is actually worse than the original Diamondus. I suggest you don’t make any more conversions and make some really good SP levels instead.

1. Spend more time on your levels. You’re levels are of poor quality and have been rushed.

2. Don’t upload tests. In my opinion tests are boring and are made over and over again. Try making a proper level like Sp, Battle, CTF etc.

Trees have been used quite well, though. In general, the eyecandy is ugly in some areas, but it looks good overall.
