It's that time of year again! Safe to say 2020 was a year that no one will be forgetting anytime soon, and not all for good reasons. Despite all of the hardships however, 2020 still saw a decent number of solid new releases for JJ2 - which we are now going to celebrate!

You must read the rules before voting. They are as follows:

1) In the past you were only allowed to vote for one nomination per category. However, in order to allow more levels to get the chance to be appreciated this time around, you are now also allowed, but not obligated to vote for your second and third choices, which respectively have x0.5 and x0.25 the weighting of your main vote. You do not have to vote in every category if you wish not to do so.

2) You are not limited to voting within the nominations, but you are advised to at least check these levels if you haven't already, in order to make your vote fair. Also, unreleased/unfinished levels cannot be voted for; they must be available for public download.

3) Votes are to be kept private until announcement of the overall results. This is to raise the tension, and also to prevent bandwagoning. In order to vote, post your votes here and then delete the post after you have submitted it, and a moderator will undelete it after the deadline. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can submit them using the following Google Form, or you are allowed to PM them to Stijn, but bare in mind that your choices will be announced in public once the voting stage is over. Any votes left public will be forcibly deleted by moderation, and your vote may not count. If you vote using the Google Form, you must confirm with me by sending me a PM or replying to this thread to confirm that you have submitted your votes, else they will be null and void during the final count. This is to prevent people from claiming to be someone else when voting.

4) Voting closes on 16th January at 23:59 GMT+1. Votes made promptly after this deadline may still be counted but as soon as a moderator undeletes the posts, any subsequent votes will be ignored.

Since there seems to have been some confusion over how to vote, I have decided to create a Google Form as an alternative way for people to submit their votes, where the voting format is clearly layed out.

However, there is an important caveat when using this form to vote: you must confirm that you have submitted your votes, either by sending me a PM or by replying to this thread to say you have voted using the form. This is crucial to prevent people from attempting fraudulently vote in the name of someone else.

Just letting you know that the Tangle Temple download link now is the actual latest version, from JDC. It basically replaces the overpowered roller back with bouncer.

It's not on J2O because I wanted to fix the palette for those who wanted to use the conversion. Trouble is, it's a pain to fix. However, the gameplay will remain the same from now on.

Best Battle Level is typically one of the hotly contested categories each year. Rather appropriately, FawFuL really turned up the heat this time, with his aptly named Hellfire! You're guaranteed to have one hell of a time in this level. Okay, silly puns aside, this is one fantastic level - one that truly demonstrates FawFuL's mastery of JJ2 level design. No doubt it will become a regular feature of future editions of JDC and the Anniversary Bash. Big thanks to those who voted for my levels - I feel happy to have produced works that are runners up to what might possibly be Faw's magnum opus!

Double victory for FawFuL! Taking home the Best Battle and the Best CTF awards home in a single year is no mean feat, so kudos! Crayon Valley is pretty far removed thematically from the infernal depths of Hellfire, taking place in a pastel wonderland. It's got a pretty nifty layout with some fun strategies to pull off, and is well worth trying a 3vs3 in! Once again, I'd like to say thanks for giving your votes to my levels! I'd also like to give a personal recommendation to Hollow of the Haunted, which just missed out on a podium position but is nonetheless definitely worth your time.

I don't suppose anyone's surprised to see Violet claim yet another award for Best SP Release, but that doesn't make it any less deserved! Operation: Clone Killer 3 is one behemoth of an SP level that basically encapsulates the JJ2 experience, but multiplied by several factors. Go big, or go home I say! It packs a plethora of intriguing ideas, and is also really rather pretty to look at (more on that later). Furthermore, it's also worth replaying multiple times! Mighty Switch Test! 2! is a great sequel to the original that makes key improvements where it really counts, while feeling remarkably fresh. Congratulations to Project Reject and The Even More Secret Files for getting a third place tie! The former is a short-but-sweet episode with some light scripting and a humorous premise, while the latter is a love letter to the golden age of classic JJ2 Single Player.

street fight!!!!!!! is punk rock to the core, decked out in SHOCKING PINK and packing a serious punch in the gameplay department. Not a level I'd like to encounter on a walk down the street anytime soon! Bubble gum is rather twee by comparison, and has an interesting combination of tilesets with a solid layout. Definitely a good choice for ODT events! Props to Ragnarok for inspiring me to enter the Single Screen contest in the first place with his quirky example level.

What constitutes good eyecandy is often highly subjective from person to person, so it's no surprise to see that this was quite a divisive category. Only a quarter of a vote seperated the first and second place finishers this time, but ultimately there was a winner - thank you! I've been wanting to make a glowing mushroom cave level ever since I first encountered Blackreach in Skyrim. I feel I have a lot to owe to FawFuL and his level Hellfire, though. Hellfire is the level that really showcases the power of additional layers in JJ2+, and no doubt Hellfire was a massive influence on Illumination. Operation: Clone Killer 3 is probably JJ2's most visually ambitious level yet when it comes to the fine details, as enhanced by AngelScript. Like Hellfire, it also has quite the spectacle of a background!

While neither are original tilesets, both are of great value to JCSers. p2ba's Tubelectric from Jazz 1 is now the definitive conversion of the tileset, greatly improving on the flexibility while staying completely true to the original vision. Halloween Hare by chandie does some pretty quirky things to HH98, taking it away from winter and towards more of a surreal Halloween-y theme. No doubt an imaginative JCSer should be able to put this set to great use!

Thank you so much for naming me as Best JCSer - I am truly moved! I'm not sure I would've even released anything this year if not for the pandemic, but I'm so glad that I did. However, I do honestly believe that FawFuL and Violet would be so much more deserving of this award - despite releasing fewer levels than me between them, I feel that these two really pushed the boat out this year when it comes to innovation, far more than I did with my levels. Massive props to both of them! I'd also like to give a shoutout to cooba for likewise coming up with some really cool ideas in 2020.

2020 has been a year of great and terrible things. Looks like JCS 2020 is a great one.

The results are mostly fair in my opinion, but people like Violet and cooba might deserve more credit.

Big thanks to everyone who voted. This was a crazy year and probably one of the best years for JCS. I don't think some categories were ever this contested before, filled with levels that all deserved the win. Let's hope 2021 will be a great year too.

Congratulations to all the winners! There was a lot of great stuff out there this year, with PJ producing piece after piece of parallax artwork in level form, cooba pushing the envelope in gameplay innovation, lots of really exciting and thoughtful work from newer level designers, and everything else in-between. Maybe in 2021 we'll see more people take up pixel art and a return to original tilesets... even almost all the levels this year were made using (various new palettes of) various JJ1 and JJ2 sets. I'm also interested to see if the success of the single screen contest inspires people to make more multiplayer levels that are smaller and thus force more constant combat among players.

It's weird seeing Operation: Clone Killer 3 on the best scripted list because I think of it as primarily a JJ2 level with some details here and there for polish, but then I look again and its script file is 73kb. And that scripted nature makes me always unsure whether the people who had trouble navigating the thorn area without an airboard just failed a spot check, or whether something genuinely failed to spawn for them. But all in all it was a very satisfying level to put together, with lots of different gameplay sections... I'm glad it brings people pleasure, and I hope AaRoN gets an inexplicable feeling of warmth wherever he is. I'm also thrilled I put two exclamation marks into Mighty Switch Test! 2!'s name, because it looks so funny whenever people mention it in this thread. It's probably the closest I've come to making something that is, like, A Video Game, despite its still relying on familiar JJ2 rabbit physics, so I'm glad it got a good reception. People should post their star collections more.
